1. What is your age?
46
2. What is your gender?
male
3. What nation(s) are you a citizen of?
USA
4. At what age did you first read comic books?
5
5. Do you presently read comic books?
Nope. I don't think much of what gets published (based on what I see and hear) as it tends to just be chasing after money and has precious little artist merit of any sort (often the case through-out their history of course...). I think the last superhero ones I bought must have been like 1995 or so. I get more from reading "complex" material - I grew up but comics never really did, past a few notable exceptions.
6. Have you ever read an online superhero comic?
Not that I can recall.
7. How have comic book heroes affected you personally?
I was going to say 'none', but they have opened up areas of creative thinking for me, so there's that.
8. Do you value the abilities/powers of a comic book superhero or the character/story development of the superhero?
Character by a long shot.
9. Do you think superhero comic books have had a significant impact on society?
Not that I can think of. I think of them as just the modern version of mythic characters, like Beowulf.
10. What value(s) do superhero comic books bring to modern society?
Not much that I can think of.
11. Do you think the value(s) superhero comic books provide has changed over the last 20, 30, 50 years?
Oh yes, they're always changing. Lately (say since the 80s) I think for the worse, based on what I see and hear. One critique I've heard of post-Watchmen comics is they misunderstood the "gritty" tones Moore used and are just a lot of "apocalypse-porn", which I feel is a valid point. Considering the post-9/11 landscape though, a lot of media has gone that route, not just comics. I think most media, comics included, have suffered a coarsening over the past few decades.
12. What era or decade do you think superhero comic books had the greatest impact on society?
Maybe during WWII, as readership was highest back then (not just superhero stuff though), but I'm not really sure they have ever had much impact on society.
13. What have you thought about the movies in recent years that are based on comic book superheroes?
Some are ok escapist material, others just the usual special-effects extravaganzas that happen to feature superheroes. See above about 'apocalypse porn'. When a new one pops up I'll admit it might initially hold my interest at first more than other sorts of films, as in "huh, this may be good... or not."
14. Do you think modern technologies (e.g. video games, MMOs) have affected the creativity of recent superhero comic book publications?
As I don't read them I can't really say but I kind if think not. From what I hear about them it's a pretty moribund genre.
15. What, if any, new superhero publications have you seen in the last two years?
None.

I almost never play any trials, TFs, etc. etc. etc. Speed-running the same narrow content (especially when there is so much else to choose from) is one aspect of CoH that I can't stand - life is already too repetitive, I have better things to do than chase after virtual rewards. In all the time I've played this game I think I can count the number of times I've been on such things on both hands. Additionally, even when speed-run, I may not have the time to complete one.
So I'm a lot like you - I have no plans. When I go to log on, I usually just go with my guy on whom to log in as and what to do, which usually means PUGing. I will PUG on a trial run or whatever if someone actually asks, but I'm just as likely to say no. -
I'll toss in my brand-new, Valentine's Day-compliant arc The Sick Rose, #537898.

Based on feedback, I've changed the description of the arc a little, both in the AE and my original post.
Based on more feedback, apparently the mechanics are going a bit wonky in ally/collection placement, ending up placing them a bit out of order. Such is the AE. :/ "It worked fine for me during testing" sounds weak, but it's true. I'll be looking at a little rejiggering in the next couple of days. That said, the story still comes across nicely, I was told, so don't be scared away, it's far from broken. -
Somehow the trailer didn't do it for me as much as Iron Sky's did, not sure why. Still, it's on my radar, I'm still willing to give it a chance.

I didn't know I missed these lists until SteelClaw came back. *sinlgemanlytear

Bless you guys for making this choice! I was so worried you'd restrict the hair to make sure it fit inside the helmet. Really glad you didn't, thanks again!

A new arc!
The Sick Rose, #537898
Villainous, levels 35-54
Foes: Circle Of Thorns
2 maps, medium and small
Tags: solo friendly, horror, romance
WARNING: a bit of black/gross-out humor! Written for mercenary-minded villains, you're is hired by a ghoul to protect the love of his life, Doc Delilah! Not really 'humor', but not something to take too seriously... [SFMA]
This was going to be a single-mish story, like a tip, but I couldn't really fit the story into just one. I got the idea for this and it blossomed in my head so quickly that I put aside the arc I'm currently working on to get this done in time for Valentine's Day. It may still be a bit rough around the edges as I slightly rushed it, but don't worry, it's not 'unfinished' or anything.
I hope you enjoy it and please leave some feedback to help me to improve it! -
Quote:Hm, first time I've had the charge of "assumption" ever leveled at that arc, although to be fair it's never gotten tons of plays. When writing it I tried to be as careful about such things as I could be.If that kind of thing (assumptions about character actions) in an arc makes you a little cranky then this arc will drive you mad as a march hare.
Thanks for the play though, glad the rest of it agreed with you. -
Escorts themselves can be pretty buggy, in a lot of ways, I try and avoid them. I've also found errors popping up a number of times about "can't link that from this" when it doing so does follow logical order; however programming often doesn't work that way.
I seem to recall trying to set something to spawn once the escort is acquired (not completed) and couldn't - either the option didn't exist or that called forth those dang errors again. You're probably best off not trying for that anyways, it's just tempting fate. Plus there's always putting info in the text, "$name, you found me! Let's go, I'll show you where that mcguffin is when we get there." -

I'm guessing the colorist did that, not the main B&W artist (assuming they're not one and the same). The artist does have some ability to capture the likenesses, which always counts for something in my book, but I have to agree with the rest of your post.

Quote:I know that feeling. Even a cheapo telescope can show you all sorts of great stuff and will most likely thrill you with the knowledge that you're seeing the light from another world - not a picture but the real thing. There wasn't much color, because of all the light being reflected off the clouds, but I was seeing this other world for real, with my own eyes, from my parents driveway.
Some years ago I had such a telescope and pulled it out at a slow party and aimed it at the moon. I was showing it to different people and I remember one woman was just agog at that simple view, she kept going on about how amazing it was and said something like "why don't they tell people this?!" Not that she was stupid or anything but she just had never realized how easy it is to plunk down a yard-long tube with a couple of lenses and see so much.
I really need to get another telescope, I don't have that one any more and my newer one gone messed up in a move. -

I know the accolades are really helpful for toons, but when it comes to badges, I tend to look down my list, find one that seems to fit the toon, set it for his/her badge title and forget all about them. I don't have tons of time to play so badge chasing feels like busywork that takes away from my 'real game'.

Quote:This is about where I am with it. Somewhat interesting idea, could have some funny moments, but overall it's going to need some sort of deeper edge about society and our love of violence (or something, anything) to redeem itself. Otherwise it's just more violence for violence's sake.I dig catharsis as much as the next guy, but there's just something about this that irks me. This is supposed to be funny, but it just isn't to me. Maybe its just the trailer, but im just not digging the vibe of the film so far. That and it reminds me a lot of Falling Down which i dig a lot more.
Still, ill give this a watch, just not in theaters.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play my Martial Arts scrapper! -
PUG Trial - you team up with 7 other NPCs with random-button costumes and poor power choices. The squishies rush in and take agro while the tougher melee types stand around you going "..." Every time someone dies, another ambush is spawned.

I'm not sure I care for the glowing on B, but as long as C doesn't win, we all win - C looks too armory and we already have tons of that to choose from.

Quote:It's not the difference in your drawing, it's learning the skill and ability to do so quickly and accurately that makes it worth while; the more you know about doing art the better for your art, right? If your model is getting impatient, get a new model, you're paying them to stand there, not complain.Yeah my art teacher was saying exactly what you are, but I've drawn with both techniques and I've never seen a difference in my drawings. Only that a live model just gets impatient quicker, and if you're paying her it gets expensive.

And I just got a Bots/Dark MM to fifty yesterday - my first fifty (out of a total of three) in like three years. o.o
Grats to us all!
