Wasn't this on Family Guy or something?

One more vote for the Big Red Ball!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think this was actually a Saturday Night Live, or a Mad TV, skit.

    That being said...

    +1 vote for the BRB!

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was an SNL commercial parody from around 1998.

Well if you are farming them for the temp power, then there isn't a reason to do more than 1 per zone.

    [/ QUOTE ]
On approximately half of the maps, there's a side mission to break into a villain hideout and steal their stuff. The "glowie" in that mission 100% reliably gives another randomly-selected temporary power, no matter how many missions you've done on this map.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's really cool.. granted, I have only done 2 Mayhem Missions and I haven't seen that side mission, but I was speaking of the temp power given at the end of the mission as a mission complete bonus.

I read that THAT temp power is only once per zone.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
so there's no point to doing 2 in a zone? that's kinda dum

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well if you are farming them for the temp power, then there isn't a reason to do more than 1 per zone. If you are doing them for xp, fun, and fulfilling your broker's requirement, then there is.

(yes, I know you can pass it up or fail it and still get a contact.)

My friend and I did the Founder's Falls mayhem mission for the second time in 2 days. At the end of the mission neither one of us got a new temp power, nor any notification of a new temp power in the dialogue box or flashed on the screen.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I believe you only get the temp power once per mission zone. (I thought I read that somewhere.) This is to stop the temp power farming of mayhem missions.
  5. Was able to do my second mayhem mission tonoght. Level 26 SS/Inv Brute.

For the most part it was very good. The Hero was a LT - Overload. No problems in the bank.

Got 2 keys - no clues.

    1. Kidnap victim. After defeating the guards around the victim, it took me leaving the vic's line of sight and come back before he recognized me as his kidnapper. (I was not stealthed.)

    2. Smash and Grab. Lots of fun until the end. I was fighting 5 swat guys. I had at one time 8 sticky arrows, 6 flashbangs, and 4 web grenades. (the stacking of icons really helps to count those) So, I was basically useless in this situation.

Fighting the outdoor guys. I was chain flashbanged and chain glued. The swat guy I was fighting just kept recycling as soon as one wore off, he was ready with another. Luckily, some of the flashbangs missed.

Still, it was fun. Large truck smashing is cooool!

I was getting random time bonuses that I couldn't figure out.

Go to Amazon.com guys you can see the real cover there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Okay.. that cover RAWKS!
  7. I've noticed that the power tray icon recycles before the power is actually ready.

I am only up to lvl 5 but so far, I really like the set. I am wondering, as others, if the end transference will be slottable enough for me to skip Stamina...
  8. Did my first Mayhem Mission with a lvl 38 Bots/FF MM.

It was a LOT of fun.. did it on Viscious in Brickstown.

    Thoughts/Issues:

    1. What gives time extensions? It wasn't clear, as some cars gave 3 minutes and others gave nothing. (It was the same with all targetable objects.)

    2. Citizens are annoying once again. Since they are targetable, my pets had a field day with them and not with enemies unless I commanded them to attack. I think after defeating them, they should zone out like someone stated before me.

    3. Some objects are targetable, but my bots couldn't hit them. This seemed to happen with large dumpsters and cardboard boxes. I would set the pets to attack and they would run up and keep running at the object not being able to hit it. (almost like the mob stuck in a wall problem)

    4. I spawned a Boss level hero who hit my by surprise and sent me to jail. No problem with the jail door because of the bots. In the jail, I broke out a fellow villain that I didn't even know was in there.

    5. No problem with the villain, he followed me through the whole mission and helped me complete the bank robbery.

    6. By accident, I ended up in a sidequest to plant 5 bombs and blow up a building. COOL

    7. I assume that everytime I got a "key" it opened up a side mission. (The keys came from Crey Tank Bosses). I didn't know these existed until I opened the map outside and saw the yellow markers.

    8. Zoning bots are a problem.. big time.. in all missions. The good thing is they don't seem to get stuck at the vators anymore, but they take their damn time using them.. if they use them at all!

    9. LOVED the temp power. That was a nice surprise.

These will truly kick butt when they all the kinks are worked out.
  9. Did you know there used to be a bug where you could create a totally invisible character?

The only thing that woiuld show was the small circular shadow your normal character would create and any text bubbles.
  10. [ QUOTE ]

though I did find it kind of amusing that for the first 15 or so pages of this thread there were maybe 4 people who were in favor of Patron Powers and now, since Statesman has graced this thread with his presence (yes I'm sucking up, can we have issue 7 now?), all of the pro PPP people are coming out of the woodwork.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, unhappy people are usually more vocal than those who are happy with the choices.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
So, do you actually "pledge loyalty" to the patrons in game, plot-wise? Or did you write it in a way that Player Characters can see it as lip-service?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, no matter what they wrote in the game script, you could take it as lip-service anyway. That's where the whole patron power thing fits in. You could be just using them to get what you want and whatever you say to them is a lie.

    f'rinstance:

If you play a male villain, you could choose Ghost Widow, because after all, she's just a woman. No woman would be able to outwit you and therefore it would be easier to convince her into thinking you're working for her.

Or if you play a female Villain, you could choose Scirocco because your wiley ways will have him wrapped around your fingers. While doing his bidding, he'll never see that you're actually working on your own plans and just using him to further your carreer.

It's all in how you see it and how you choose to play. Just because something written on your screen states you're now someone's follower, doesn't mean you have to take that as the truth. My main character is going to switch over to the heroes as soon as possible.. he's been doing everything asked by his contacts so that he'll have more information to help the heroes out when he finally turns.

I, personally, think the Patron Power pools are awesome and the idea is great. I think they fit the CoV concept and world MUCH better than AP powers would.

Soul Storm. Available to Stalkers and Corruptors, if they take Ghost Widow as a Patron.

To exit a mission immediately, you had to click on the "i" icon in the navbar.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, it was just anywhere on the nav bar. But either way it was frustrating, since I've had a similar problem with wanting to read a mission description.

    [/ QUOTE ]

With the advent of CoV, you could also now choose the instance of the zone you wanted to exit to when you clicked on the exit button. You used to zone out to the instance you were in if you didn't go all the way back to the door.
  15. Did you know there are several additions to the game to stop Sidekick P/L exploits:

    1. Auto AFK/Logout. People would park their hero in a safe place (usually the tram stations), side kick to a much higher hero and let that hero go street sweep, thus safely collecting xp.

    2. 200 ft seperation check: If you are over 200 ft away from a teammate, you will not get xp for their kill. (This only happens in open zone hunting, not instanced missions.) However, you do get credit for the mob type kill when applied to a badge.

    3. Level closeness check. You must be within 5 levels of your teammate to get xp for a kill. It used to be that a lvl 1 could team with a level 40 and get insane amounts of XP for a lvl 40 kill. You now must be within 5 levels (I think that's the limit) of the highest team member, can be done through side kicking.

    4. XP ratio: this goes hand in hand with the above. When a higher level character kills a mob, you used to get xp based on the level of the mob. Now you get XP based on the level of the mob in relation to the level you are currently playing at.

I.e. playing a lvl 20 character and you are sked to lvl 40. (numbers made up for ease of explanation.) An orange mob at level 40 would give you 800 xp while an orange mob at lvl 20 would give you 150 xp. You used to get the full 800 xp. Now you get the 150 xp.

(The above statements may require some corrections, but that's the way I remember them...)

On a different note: DE Eminators used to spawn as Lieutenants, not pets.
  16. Here's what I can remember:

    Store icons on the map
Making store icons on the map clickable
Dark armors would totally fuzz out a character so you couldn't see the costume.. now, if I am correct, they pulse and the costume is much more viewable.
There are also several changes to the options tabs that were suggested by the playerbase.
    Changes to being chain-mezzed

All in all it was a great event and look forward to a second annual gathering in the future.

Who said anything about these things being merely annual?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think you all need to take a road trip up to Chicago so some more fans can get the chance to meet you!!!
  18. Okay... here goes:

    My pet peeves and such:

    [rant]

Please don't run from group to group like an ADD kid hopped on sugar because you don't want to lose your fury. Also, don't ss down the hall to fight the next group. Some of us can't/won't keep up with you. Playing an MM, I am extremely squishy until my bots catch up to me - and they only sprint when I don't want them too. (P.S. I also play a brute and I know what it's like to have the fury bar peaking... I don't want to lose it either, but I don't want to lose my teammates more.)

If you have an invisibility power, please don't defog the whole map because you can. I like to know what we've cleared and what's left to clear.

By the same token, if the mission is to find x glowies and you scout and click each glowie, that could leave the rest of the team facing x ambushes at the same time.

Always remember, no matter how good you are, you most likely can't play every AT like a tank. If you choose to do so, I will stop trying to heal your sorry butt every time you over aggro.

If you are forming a team, please don't be offended if I see that your missions are on slider level 5 and I don't want to play that level - especially with an 8 member team and we're all level 10. (that is a MAJOR peeve of mine. I don't see how anyone in the teens or lower can be playing on invincible/relentless.

If you're the team leader, lead the team or designate someone else to lead. Communication is key, especially with new teammates.

    [/rant]

Oh.. as for blind invites, yeah.. they suck. I have been known to thank people for asking me even when I don't accept the invite. Politeness goes a long way. I don't even mind being asked while I am in a mission, as long as I am asked.

Just thought I'd mention Robot Rally. If you like board games and see Robot Rally I suggest you buy it. I also note they've just bought out a repackaged version of the game.

RoboRally is AWESOME! I have both versions. The new version is MUCH spiffier with new boards and a few new rules.

    Your Opinion

    [ QUOTE ]
I love playing this game, but I often get strange reactions from people when I tell them I play MMO's. How do you guys justify/explain playing the game/use of the game?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Reasons I have used:

<ul type="square"> [*]Because I am 40 years old and can do what I want [*]Because my mommy and daddy have blocked all the pron sites [*]Because I don't have to feed it and drive it home afterwards [*]After a long day at work, I don't feel like going out at night. This is a great social outlet. [*]It's less expensive than crack and cheap hookers [*]It doesn't give me a hangover [*]Because, unlike the couch potato that you have become, I am actually exercising my mind [*](My sister's favorite reason) I get to kill farting monkeys [/list]
Feel free to use any of those.

Geez, My gaming group broke up about a year ago due to certian people getting too annouying and one of the founders having his first kid. Never did the laptop thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well we are using laptops because of a website called Screen Monkey Planet. It allows him to post pictures as well as an online battle field that we can all use to help facilitate the gaming experience. It's actually a neat little place and it has made the battles easier to follow.
  24. I know Gratz is on here, but with the addition of CoV we use "Dratz."

As in "Darn you you for leveling before I did!"
  25. [ QUOTE ]

MMOs seem to move us at least one step back towards "games as social activities." A good friend of mine &amp; game designer believes that board games are coming back into the mainstream, and aren't just for kids (and families) anymore.

It certainly seems like they (MMOs and online console games) are becoming an accepted sphere in which to play games (have "meaningful fun") with friends.

I think it's too early to tell whether MMOs will have real long-term endurance in mainstream culture ... or whether they'll be more fad-like ... but then 5.5 million WoW players can't be wrong, can they?

    cheers,
    Arctic Sun

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, 5.5 Million Players can be wrong for playing WoW (JOKE - Don't flame!)

For me, one of the advantages of CoH/V is that I can socialize on a weeknight and not have to go out of the apartment. I don't like to go out after a long day of work and living alone, this is a great outlet for me to have fun and still be social.

As a 40 y.o. male, I started pen &amp; paper RPG about 4 years ago and CoH was my first online game, so this is still relatively new to me. Board games, however, are something my friends and I have done for years and continue to do.

I look at MMO's as allowing me to game with my friends while not having to be in the same room. With the addition of things like chat and teamspeak, you don't have to be with them to be with them.

As a side note, in my RL RPG sessions everyone has to bring a laptop. So now we have pen, paper, dice, rules, AND internet.. I feel like an uber-geek when we play!
