Quote:I don't think that's the case at all.Seems like it's a stab at our efforts to save the game. The message I get from it is "Don't bother, it's not worth saving." I'm hoping the blogpost will shed more details on the comic.
Gabe is generally written as "the guy who is always wrong," so him dismissing it is intended to imply, "Don't do this."
Tycho even says, "well other people do." -
Gyros sounds like Heroes.
That's the point. It isn't all that clever, but it's some exposure.
Like Metal Giant said, Jerry Krahulik's news post generally expands on the comic within the first few paragraphs, so there is likely some more positive news coming. Exposure = Good!
And I believe the PA guys did play... Albeit long ago.
... Also not entirely positive, but... NEWS! -

No.
Even with "server emulator" being a last straw kinda plan, I think NC Soft is petty enough to reach out and throw a C&D at anything that gets going. We're already on their radar, and the only thing preventing most companies from sending a C&D to protect one of their IPs sooner is their unawareness. We've been loud enough that we don't have that benefit of anonymity when that will be needed. -

OK, since I'm going to be leaving sooner or later, I'll just provide a variety of suggestions.
PC:
Can't go wrong with Portal and Portal 2. Bastion is a game that looks amazing, but I haven't played it yet.
MMOs
I've played Champions Online and DCU Online, and I can't recommend either, though DCUO held my interest longer than CO. The Secret World is the only other MMO out there that looks interesting to me, but I haven't played it. The Marvel Universe MMO is going to be like Diablo, so I don't think it's worth waiting around for that, since I'm not the biggest Diablo fan.
PS3:
Uncharted 2 and 3
Mass Effect 2 and 3
God of War III
Resident Evil 4
Dishonored (releases 10/9)
Fallout III
BioShock
Darksiders II
InFamous
Journey
Valkyria Chronicles
I only had a 360 for a short time, so I'll let someone else do that list.
iOS:

That's why Durakken has so much money he's willing to contribute towards the cause - He's the CEO of Durakken Industries, leading manufacturer of the iTroll.
-
Durakken, obvious trolling aside, it was said at one point (by a redname, IIRC - Zwill?) that a Kickstarter campaign can't be used here, because this is an established, owned property, and Kickstarter doesn't allow that kind of funding.
A Pay Pal account would be the only feasible way, but I can't imagine a community of private citizens has the kind of liquid capital that would be needed. -

This isn't that many questions, you jackals!
Also, Nov. 30th is a Friday, Iron. -
Can anyone give me a summary? Blocked at work...
-
Ah. When I played DCUO, I used a PS3 controller. Yesterday when I redownloaded it, I was already a bit annoyed by the keyboard/mouse controls. It was mostly the extraneous buttons (hold E to open something, for one), but CO has a bit of that too (click z to talk to someone... Rather than just clicking them).
If I try DCUO anymore, it will likely be with the PS3 controller again. -
Thanks for posting, Ynaught.
Quote:I'm playing City of Heroes sporadically. Or trying to - Everytime I've gone online, there hasn't been much to do. I've intentionally cut off my opportunities to sink anymore time into the game by starting up some console games (I'm anal in that I like to only be playing one game at a time).First and foremost, are you still playing City of Heroes?
How often?
What do you do when you're online?
Will you be here on Nov. 30th?
However, I work from home on Tuesdays, so I'm in front of the computer all day. I generally log on, turn LFT on, then do some work. That's what I did yesterday, and after so much time of not even seeing a peep on Help or LFG, (and doing a /search to see that there were 14 players, all solo, on the entire server). I then went to the Beta server and soloed for a sec as a Staff/Bio Armor newly created character, but quickly got bored. I'm not into the game to solo.
But I'll likely continue to be here online on Tuesdays throughout the day.
I will be here Nov. 30th as long as I don't have anything else going on... I just looked. That's a Friday. Gonna be tough.
Quote:Do you have plans to play any other MMOs?
Which ones?
Did you have an account in that game prior to CoH's demise?
A free trial of Rift (didn't make it past the tutorial before I got bored)
Champions Online (for a month before giving up on it)
DCU Online (Same month, but I enjoyed this one more)
I re-downloaded and re-patched both CO and DCUO yesterday. I was immediately put off of CO, but DCUO still looked cool. I may try to figure that one out some more.
The Secret World looks really interesting, but I don't know about interesting enough for me to sink the time into it.
Quote:Do you have Steam?
Do you want to share your Steam ID?
What do you generally play through Steam?
Quote:What about consoles?
PS3?
360?
What is your PSN ID and/or 360 Gamer Tag (again, if you'd like to share)?
What do you play/plan on playing?
I only have a PS3. I had a 360, but I wasn't interested in the Microsoft exclusives, so I got a PS3 instead.
My PSN ID is ChrisMoses.
I'm currently playing the original Darksiders. I also have Borderlands 2, if anyone wants to do some co-op on that.
Other than that, I have a pretty large library of games, but also a huge stack of games I haven't even played, so they're next up. And that stack will grow over the next few months with the release of Dishonored, Resident Evil 6, XCOM (both the FPS and strategy), Assassin's Creed III, and The Last of Us, not to mention a few smaller releases. -

Great, thank you. I wanted to make sure he was included, but I couldn't remember any specifics nor find any past posts.

Quote:I don't like CO's aesthetics at all.I'm over there too. @clcmercy.
Graphics are shiny, but....I don't like the art style at all. The cars. DEAR GOD, the cars that ride around. The avatars...they look so shiny, so....full of potential...and then..BAM. Those disproportionate arms/hands/legs. Much tweaking is needed in the costume editor to get it back to normal...and you're STILL stuck with the same face as everone else.
Yeah, it's buggy. Been playing it for a couple weeks now and found at least three "TF's" (CO's version of task forces are called...ummm...I forget.) that were bugged so badly they could not be finished. Even by teams. And the impression I got from the forum boards was that they have been like that for a while now.
So....don't like the graphics, don't like the buggy....but...DCUO is right out. I can stand that game even less than CO. Splitting my time between CO and The Secret World at the moment. Crafting and gear is a bit esoteric in TSW, but it's not that hard to figure out. Plus, it's getting back on track with support, development and content releases. Seems promising. Currently play on Arcadia server, one of the two RP servers there. Leviathan is the other. There's no "global" handles in TSW as far as I can tell, either.
Why does everyone hate DCUO? That's another I tried for a month at launch. I only stuck with it for the month, so obviously I didn't love it, but I played it a whole lot. I downloaded that along with CO, and my existing account was still there. I had to "disable" some of the characters I created, as a free account is limited to only 6 characters, but there was definitely less obstruction than CO has built in.
Quote:Yeah, as someone else confirmed "Gold" is a subscriber. When you select a character, I *think* there should be a "Re-Train" button on the right side that might allow you to make an old existing Freeform character into a Silver-compatible AT character. I'm not certain, because when I looked at the options I decided that playing for free wasn't going to work for me at all before I even logged in again. -
Quote:I had an account during the game's first month. Looking at the character screen, looks like I made two really cool looking dudes and got them to level 6.I tried CO ages ago. I enjoyed the costume creator and jumped in... and literally never made it out of the tutorial zone - I found it too confusing and had a mission objective that I could not resolve (literally, I could not find the objective to achieve it). Since I was only browsing, I uninstalled and moved on.
I broke down and started to play around with it yesterday. I figured, since I never really got into the game to give it a fair chance I should try again as a way to scratch my tights and cape itch.
Just as before, I found elements of the costume creator I like. It seemed way more limited than I remember though, and I got a little frustrated that the number of options for appearance was so limited at the initial screen.
Also the initial power selections are horribly tight... An ice tank or a beast tank, ranged fire/bow/gun, and a couple of others. So incredibly limited. First impressions are huge, why would they cut off the initial creator like that? It seems counter productive.
I never got into the tutorial to try that over again... but I will sometime this week.
Suffice to say, my expectations remain kind of low.
But... I can't log on with them. Something about them being "Gold," and I guess I'm "Silver," but I don't know what that means. I'm guessing it's me being a Free player now Vs. paying at the time I made those, but I don't know if there is anything to do about that.
So, I started a new guy. Like Chyll, I was put off by the absurd limitations in costumes and power types. Also like Chyll, I thought the intro, which is supposed to be explaining everything, didn't do much of anything. And that map is the worst I've ever seen.
I already put in the 3 hours today it took to download the client and patch it up, so I'll give it another shot at some point... But my 10 minute dabbling only served to remind me why I gave the game less than a month back at its release in 2009. -
That's an idea. I think I'll go to the beta server so I can finish up the SSA2.
-
I never played the originals, but I'm looking forward to both X-Com's. The current Game Informer (Mario on the cover) has a good look at the opening hours of the Strategy game.
-
I've enjoyed most Marvel titles... But some insular series that kinda have their own thing going may be the best spot to start.
Invincible Iron Man - Good series, but you'd probably have to go back quite a bit... To where Matt Fraction first began writing.
Venom - Only up to issue #23 or so.
Scarlet Spider - Texas' (alright, FINE, Houston's) own Spider-Man. Only up to issue 9 or so.
Hawkeye - Matt Fraction again, and David Aja. They had a great Immortal Iron Fist series, and through two issues, this one looks like a whole lot of fun as well.
I'd avoid any Avenging or Mutants for a while. There are good stories in there - Hell, I just bought Bendis' New Avengers Omnibus - but you kind of have to be all into the continuity and stuff to really get the most out of 'em.
My favorite Marvel series right now is probably Journey Into Mystery. It picked up after a big Marvel event, but don't let that deter you, here's the breakdown: Loki was resurrected as a young boy, and he's a lovable scamp who gets into mischief, but GOOD mischief, not "Loki is trying to **** us" mischief.
And it's technically Marvel now (their Icon imprint), so: Powers: Bureau (I think that's the subtitle). This is Brian Michael Bendis' long-running cop-drama involving superheroes. The current series (just called "Powers") just ended (though I'd say it never really began - It only went 11 issues and it took about two years due to all of the delays), and the new series is picking up with larger superpowered threats on a national stage being the main impetus.
The series is in the works as an hour-long F/X series (though there are some hangups), so get in on it!
And also, definitely not Marvel (Image), but Brian K. Vaughn's Saga is what I'm currently recommending to everyone. SO CONSIDER YOURSELF RECOMMENDED. -
I play about one day a week now. It's hard to muster the motivation for anymore than that.
I mostly just PuGed... And since those are disappearing... -
Umm... What about Kid Kinetix?
I really hope I'm not misremembering anything. PUAD guys? Help me out here.
It looks like the forum threads mentioning it have been removed or expired or whatever. Any help, anyone?
