Would LOVE to have you along Liz! I always wanted a chance to play with you.
Thing is... the lack of replies has me worried that this isn't happening, and that I'll have to transfer elsewhere to get the badge myself. Don't go spending any server transfer tokens just yet in case this doesn't get off the ground. -
Do I have a zero because you never bothered to rate me, or because you think I'm an ***?

As the subject says, I'd like to make one last shot at getting Triple Threat on Victory this coming Sunday at 9:00 PM Eastern.
I'll need 23 people other people with +3 characters and a good balance of buffs, debuffs and damage to pull this off. This is and has been the main item on my CoH bucket list since the cancellation was announced.
For those of you who do not know about Triple Threat, it is earned in the Magisterium Incarnate Trial by defeating Chimera, Nega-Pendragon and Shadow Hunter within a five second window. It's tough, but obviously doable with three strong teams who are paying attention to one another. In my previous attempts, the difficulty has always been negating Pendragon's fae shield, but I'm confident that we can handle it as long as everyone follows directions.
So, again, I ask for your help. Bring whomever you feel strongest about playing and has a +3 Incarnate shift, but remember that we need to balance strong buffs, debuffs and damage. Plan on three runs: a practice run to get everyone warmed up, then two REAL attempts. (Feel free to grab Ultimates, team inspirations, or any thing else that you think will help out. I hate to say it, but there's not a lot of reason to keep stockpiling resources at this point.)
And remember that the badge doesn't award until the trial is completed, so please don't leave us hanging after the first wave of Praetorian AVs!

Quote:Like I said, Grav/Kin makes for an amazing team build. It's possible to safely solo with as well, with Gravity's ranged damage powers on top of the ranged control abilities and the bonus controls from the Singularity pet. But I think the particular combination shines the best when you're acting as a multiplier for other teammates. The grav/kin idea intrigues me, mostly because anytime you have kin I think about self buffs and pet buffs. I would think about how SB and Fulcrum would affect the Singularity before deciding to create a character.
Of course, remember that Speed Boost does not affect pets' recharge speed, only their movement speed.
Quote:I always thought of Tankers as an offshoot of the role controllers/dominators can take - that is, always looking around and managing mobs for a team, remembering who I hit last and who I taunted last, and how long ago that was in order to refresh that control. Think of Tankers that way if you are a fan of control sets and you might find them more appealing.
When I'm playing, I either want to be doing a ton of damage or buffing my teammates. Sitting there and getting pummeled by bad guys just doesn't appeal to me, even if it is to help the team. -
1. Looking back, considering everything, which was your favorite archetype in the game?
Tough to answer this question as worded... my favorite AT to play was always melee damage, so either Brute, Scrapper or Stalker depending on what fit the character best.
The AT in the game that I thought was THE BEST would be Controllers. There were so many different ways to play the one AT... damage-heavy, team multipliers, enemy lockdown... So versatile, yet always effective.
2. In possible contrast, when it comes to your favorite character, what kind was it? List AT and the two main sets.
My favorite character is NOT my favorite power set combination. In fact, I've grown to hate those sets over the years as new sets were released. Chad Gulzow-Man is a Katana/SR Scrapper, but I hate the way defense is handled in the game. If he were being rolled fresh right now, I'd make him a Street Justice/Willpower Scrapper instead.
3. What AT did you evolve to enjoy over the years that you disliked initially?
Initially I only played melee damage. I tried making different ATs, but could never really get into them. Of course, when I made my first Controller, I had no real concept of how to build a character and I believe I chose Mind/Emp, and it was boring and ineffective.
Then, when I was in my late 20s on Chad Gulzow-Man, I teamed with my first Kinetics user and got my first taste of Speed Boost. I was like, "What is this magic power that makes everything awesome all the time!?!" I rolled a Grav/Kin Controller shortly thereafter and learned that it had a lot more awesome tools in its toolkit than just SB. I still hold that Grav/Kin is one of the best possible team builds in the game.
I still can't play Tankers, Defenders or Blasters (though I did find good synergy in a Rad/Mind Blaster that made it into the mid 30s--he felt a lot like a Controller). Or Peacebringers, for that matter. And even now, in the end, I've never tried a Warshade or Arachnos Soldier. -
Quote:Oooh, I love this game. Let's see... I think the game actually died 7 years ago when they allowed people to play villains. The time to save CoH was 4-5 years ago. It went terminal when the revenue graph took that sharp drop after I13.
Because if you keep predicting the end of something long enough, eventually you'll be right. -
Quote:Blech, I just do not like Champs. I don't like the character design style, the gameplay... nothing about it. (Well, actually, I DO like that it's cel-shaded, which I understand a lot of people dislike.) It's just... not fun, and it's ugly.In the meantime, ChO is more than adequately filling CoH's shoes for me in every way except number of character slots
I plan on giving DCUO a whirl next month, just to see if it's better than Champs. My hopes are not high. -
How did we fail to defend it? We can't exactly storm the server complex and take it for ourselves; it was never our property to defend.
The only ones who failed CoH are NCSoft, just as they've failed several previous games and will eventually fail all of their properties.
I'm still spending the time I have left in the game, playing as much as I want to and who I want to be playing. It's really a damn shame, I'd hoped one day to be able to show this to my kids. But as it stands, unless I suffer massive head trauma between now and then, I'll still be able to tell them stories about the heroic escapades of Chad Gulzow-Man in Paragon City.
I just checked last night--my main character has nearly 209 days (5,013 hours) spent logged into the game. That's a lot of good memories, fantastic friendships that have migrated into social media, and many, many stories to tell. -
Seriously? I was going out of my mind trying to find some association with backwards or reverse or left or SOMETHING... I got the "marker" part long before I'd figured out that the Williams made a square, but why'd you write "Sharpie" backwards to begin with then? -_-

Best operating system ever. Seriously.

As for upgrading to Win 8, I'm waiting until A) I have some spare cash, not that Win 8 requires much, and B) after Nov 30, just to ensure that if something DOES get borked by the upgrade, I'll be able to keep playing CoH.
A should come shortly after B anyway. I'm on target to start a new job on Dec 3. Got the highest score of any current candidate on the entry exam and just have a final interview to get through this coming Tuesday. *fist pump* -
Plus there's a YoPop not too far from Epic's offices. Just sayin'.

Wooooo, finally, you come somewhere near me!
Gratz on your job at Epic, by the way. -

Honestly, that's what would probably make NCSoft the happiest. I think they'd really rather just keep their toys in their neighborhood where they can see all of them and not have to spend any time thinking about those weird people across the lake who expect things like customer service and loyalty to go with those toys.

When it was being tested, they told us that the Flying Disc was a combination of two things: 1) a test on new tech for using a power to grant someone else a power, and 2) the pet side-project of somebody who is really into ultimate frisbee.
Nothing was announced for what that tech was testing specifically, but I always assumed it would be related to either more market items or later Incarnate powers. -
-
In retrospect, that IS the obvious choice...
Of course, now you have to give him a mustache pacifier. If you're gonna call him "Powerstachio," he needs to live up to the name.

SOOO CUUUUUTE. :3
What'd you guys choose for a name, if you don't mind me asking? -
-
Question: I thought Longbow Core was the primary choice for Lore pets on RHW runs, since they do crazy amounts of -Regen along with their decent damage?

If I ever come over, I'll just help myself to that squarish bottle in the top left of the first two pics. You can have the rest.

Nope, they turned off the ability to add serial codes to your account last month.

I got Face-Puncher from 30.0 to 47.25. Would have done more, but as the rest of you have proven, there weren't a lot of people playing this weekend, so I spent most of that time soloing through the Croatoa and Night Ward arcs.
