    Spines/Elec Help

Outstanding thread and many thanks to everyone that contributed before this post! So much food for thought!

Now, here's a question: How crazy would it be to build with a focus on high regen and recharge without adding defense bonuses?
  2. I just love that Solaria, my fire/rad gal, now has all her solar powers one glorious sunny color!

Not a troller, but my oldest toon from the first day the game went live, Neferteri, is an egyptian costumed Storm/Elec defender. I made all her storm powers look like sand storms and changed her lightning attacks to a regal gold. She looks AMAZING!

Mumoria, my mummy themed Ill/TA gal now has spooky green ghosties that help her with her work, and match her glowing green eyes.

For my new ice/cold troller, I went with darker gray tones for her powers. I love that I can make the ice shields are nearly invisible now!

Maybe you don't want to dump that much influence into it, I'm just saying. BTW, I'd rather have Ice Slick than Snow Storm. It's not a bad power but baddies flopping on ice and not attacking are better than those slowed IMO. This is still a work in progress and subject to change, and very well may

Also, I don't see any other travel power other than SS.
I have Snowstorm because I'm trying to get the most I can out of slows with this build. That's why I'm not taking the pbaoe hold. I'll have Sleet, AA, Shiver, and Snowstorm so that I can place slows all over the battlefield or I can layer slows. Raising the team's defenses with Cold Shields/Maneuvers/Arctic Fog in addition to flooring speed/recharge on mobs means very little hits are going be thrown, let alone land. I can pick off any runners with Chillblain and Block of Ice

I've found Ice Slick to be pretty much a nonissue in late game. The slow/knockdown from it get wasted by other controllers using aoe imobs in additional to mobs getting frequently knocked off of it by various teammates' powers. Sleet has all the effects of Ice Slick with the added benefit of a little damage, -Recharge, Def Debuff, Resist Debuff and you can drop an Achilles proc into it as well for a chance at even more Resist Debuff. So even if they get knocked out of Sleet, there's more 'bang for the buck' while they are in it.

You lost me on the 'not seeing any other travel power than SS' bit. Why would I want to take multiple prereqs and travel powers? If need some vertical movement I can use the GvsE Jump Pack and/or the Raptor Pack from FBZ if I use up the on from the AP Bank Mission? I guess my question is why do you think it would be important to take hover/fly in addition to hasten/ss?
  4. I've been having a really difficult time putting together a reasonably solid Ice/Cold Controller without having to give up too much. It is a tight build with the pool/epic powers I was hoping to include.

Here's what I wanted from this controller:

A team focused controller with moderate damage.
    Maneuvers to boost Cold Shields.
    Tactics to boost To Hit.
Ice Blast, Ice Armor, Ice Storm (could swap Combat Jumping for Hibernate) from Ice Mastery APP
    Relatively acceptable personal defenses.
Leverage multiple slows and avoid taking the pbaoe hold Glacier.
Use perma Sleet and thus no need for Ice Slick
    Decent recovery and recharge.

So tell me what you think and feel free to tweak and or borrow this build. Any and all criticism or comments are appreciated!

There is a minimum amount of time that stone cages prevents knockback. What is it, 14 seconds? You do have to refresh it to prevent them flying around, but when it is initially placed on mobs, they will not be knocked back for 'x' amount of time.

I've been toying with an Ice/Cold and an Earth/Cold on test. Earth/Cold is yummy! Especially with the crystal Earth custom set and your ice powers set to the same color. Snowstorm becomes 'Cloud of Crystals' pretty easily

  12. I teamed quite a bit with a Dark/Ice while leveling up my Cold/Ice. She seemed to be quite powerful and really enjoyed that combo.

Could be worth a whirl, eh?
  13. Well, you don't want to give Sonic another whirl, but I found that my Son/Son gal was easily the most soloable of my defenders.

If end is a concern, you can't go wrong with Rad/ or Kin/.

I really enjoyed my Cold/Ice defender 1 through 50, but played primarily on teams. She's got those lovely ice holds, good debuffs, Heat Loss for end regen in the late levels, and solid damage aoe and single target.

I deleted my Kin/Rad version of Cobra Lily when Plant became available Blue Side, but she was a lot of fun to play back in the day.

I have an Archery Blaster, but I've heard that damage is a little light for defenders until you get to Rain of Arrows at level 38. My only experience with TA is on my Illusion/TA controller, so can't really shed any light on it for defenders. I can't help but think if you stick through to Oil Slick Arrow, you'd have some mighty tasty damage with that power.

My last Defender project was a Rad/Rad and I really love her. Tricked her out with IOs and three Hami Enzyme Exposures in Radiation Infection and she's a lil perma AM/perma Hasten monster. She's become my default TF go to gal with her recall/veng/fallout/mutation combo for tasty buffs, damage and debuffs. Her solo damage isn't bad either combined will all the utility and debuffs Rad/Rad has to offer.

My 40ish Dark/Dark gal has had a long progression towards 50. I love her costume, her concept and her name. She's fun on a team, but soloing with her can often be painful.

I still have my old FF/Psi defender from when the game went retail and she's languishing at lvl 40 right now. I pull her out every now and then, but she got set on the back burner once I caught the Controller bug.

I'd recommend trying out several combos and see which one 'rings your bell'. I've always gone with strong concept builds on my defenders but you could switch up primary and secondary combos and find one to your liking.
  14. Most fun I've had playing was my Psi/MM blaster. I couldn't get enough of playing her especially once I got Drain Psyche. Toss in Temp Invuln and PFF for extra sturdiness and she's a monster.

Archery/Energy is close behind for a pure 'from range' blaster fun with a ton of damage to boot.

My 50 elec/elec/elec is okay. I find she works better on big teams than solo, but your mileage may vary.

Can't go wrong with Ice/Ice for a first time blaster though. So much soft and hard control combined with great damage.

I've got a mid 20s Sonic/Ice blaster that just feels like a chore to play, even with all the tricks she has up her sleeve. The sonic sound fx really bug me, for some reason.

That's my observations on the blaster combos I've played for any real stretch of time. Hope it was helpful.
  15. I love KB when my hero has it.

I hate it when I'm on a melee hero and someone on the team is constantly knocking my targets out of range. When this happens, I don't chase the knocked away target. If they want it away from me, they can deal with it. Pretty simple philosophy and avoids confrontation.

I don't chase after knock backed mobs. It is your mess, clean it up.
  16. Well, from my Claws/SR experience, Claws is a fast recharging & low end cost set with good single target and good aoe damage. It really blossomed into a great set with the last pass of tweaks the devs made to it. I find now that Claws has become the melee set that I compare all others to. Boy oh boy do I miss having Focus when I'm on my Kat scrapper. Damn those pesky runners!

From what I've read, Electric Melee is an aoe set that is light on the single target damage so it will probably be a little less advantageous soloing AVs, etc., but will mow through groups of LTs and Minions with the new mission settings coming with i16. I'm also seriously mulling over how Electric Melee/SR will play.

With Power Sink in Electric Armor, end won't be an issue, though I've never found it an issue with Claws anyway. The change of Conserve Power to Energize gives Elec Armor a nice heal/regen/recovery clickable, which can't be a bad thing for a resist set.

I know that Brutes have long disliked having to take the Medicine Pool for Aid Self, since Electric Armor has lacked any self healing, and it will be interesting to see if Energize patches that hole in the set enough to leave Medicine off.

All in all, I think Electric Armor and Electric Melee will be very popular.

    Making A Tanker

My Tankers have all come from choosing power sets first, which isn't my usual approach.

WP/DB became a Xena'esque inspired "Queen of the Amazons" when those sets were introduced.

SD/DM became "Magical Mistress" a magician's assistant who was sucked into an alternate dimension during a live performance. Her boss was dabbling in black market/black magic props and supplies. Again when shields were added to the game.

INV/SS became "Charity Steele" because I couldn't really come up with a good concept other than her mutant abilities give her body metallic resilience/strength. Started her because I hadn't tried this combo since the game went live a zillion years ago.

Elec/Elec will be my next one. Have a couple of names staked out but no concepts yet.

I've been pretty happy with all my tanks, but being a support player at heart, I don't give them nearly the amount of play time they deserve.
  18. I've got names staked out for a Spines/Elec scrapper and an Elec/Elec tank so far.

i16 just can't get here fast enough!
  19. I've got a mid 20s Spines/Dark gal that is a ton of fun to play, but I'm putting her on hold until i16, so I can compare how Spines/Elec plays out.
  20. Sorry if i let my earlier response drift into unseemly territory. I just had a very strong reaction to CO, and that bled over into my guess that the market wouldn't see any major effect from said game's launch.
  21. I can not seeing it being a significant CoX killer. Console kiddies will probably play it for a bit and rapidly get bored. MMO players will find it thin on content and lacking any compelling game play after a couple of hours. Plus it is just so completely ugly! Oy!

City of WoW, or City of WoW's UI are appropriate descriptions of CO.

I find it hard to believe that having made one super hero MMO, somehow they made a worst one. I'm still boggling over how that happened.

The best feature of Champions Online is how quickly the uninstaller works.
  22. I really really really love my latest 50 Illusion/Trick Arrow gal. This was my first exposure to playing TA, and it melds wonderfully with Illusion.
  23. Nothing new to add other than the downtime in CoH is minimal compared to most MMOs.

I know it can be frustrating to have the day off, get up early, pop on the computer only to find the server is undergoing maintenance. We're lucky to do an hour of morning maintenance. Other games can go down for whole days sometimes with no warning.
  24. I'm literally out the door in just a few minutes, but thought I'd throw out a few things I that you could tweak. These are just my personal opinions, so take them as you will.

    1. Radiation Infection: just drop 3 enzyme exposures in there, since you've already got 2. That will free up two slots to use elsewhere.

    2. Not sure why you are putting the enter Zephyr set into Super Speed, since you aren't stacking the defense bonus with any other. I'd go with one Run IO and the Zephyr knockback in it.

    3. I personally wouldn't take two travel powers. If you need some vertical movement, keep hover, but I don't see the need for Fly and Super Speed. Dropping Fly would let you pick up another power like Aim or Tactics to boost your accuracy so those nice juicy debuffs are sure to hit high con mobs.

    4. I like slotting Cosmic Burst for damage rather than stun. You can put five Decimations in there for the same recharge bonus plus an additional 100 pts damage, and complete it with a Stun IO.

    5. Performance Shifter proc in Stamina is really worth it. You could slot out the Perf. Shifter set with some of the slots you would be saving from SS and RI.

    6. I see you with with Psi Epic set for the Fortunata purple IO set, which is fine, but I'd highly recommend the Power Mastery pool for Power Build Up. Hitting that and then EMP gives it 61 second duration which is pure love.

    7. Since Lingering Radiation already does 75% -recharge, I'm not sure it is worth devoting another space to the PotT chance for -rech proc.

I've got to run, but here's the build I'm using on my Rad/Rad. I went for the Recall Friend/Veng/Fallout/Mutation route. Take from it what you will.
