  1. I miss @Azar, & talking with @TheBiz about min/max builds within character concept restraints.
    & I miss everyone & the time I had with them from the SJS on Infinity, wherever they went to after the SJS disbanded. When it was around, that was the time & server to be a roleplayer. All other roleplay has felt half done since.

  5. On a note to start, the powers are, more or less, set. This is a concept build. However, what I would like come C&C on from wiser defenders than I would be viable enhancment options within the build, possibly a way to min/max with these powers.

  7. Appreciate the advice.

    Given Local Man's advice, I decided to play from range, instead of focus on building around fighting from within the spawns with Arctic Air, focus on ranged -SPD so that I can continue to stay at range by outrunning them or locking them down.

    Skipped Forstbite, given I will have two knockdown powers in Ice Slick and Oil Slick Arrow, one application of Frostbite would cancel out two other implicated AoEs.

    Skipped Flash Freeze, took Poison Gas Arrow. One advantage I could find (in real numbers) to FF over PGA is the duration, FF a little over 22 seconds, PGA only 11 seconds. However, it is not enough to sway toward FF. UnicyclePeon made a good point about alpha-mez, but 11 seconds should be more than enough time. If not, 1-2 standard 50 Sleep IOs should solve the issue. Plus, of course, -20% DamDebuff.

    Took both Chilblain and Block of Ice. Block of Ice is the ST hold, backed up by Ice Arrow for bosses. Chilblain will be the ST attack until 41, using Entangling Arrow to set up containment for it (had to find at least one good use of the power). This does mean my ST will be immune to the knockdown while he has so many immobs placed on him, but I can live with that, given he is still subject to the -Rech, and all his buddies are falling down around him.

    With two holds, I could also slot two sets of Basilik's Gaze as early as level seven, and double up on ranged defense, recovery bonus, recharge time, and mez protection early game, though at the expense of early slots in other powers. (side but related note, money is not much of an issue, so long as the build does not have four purple sets, five LotG Procs, and the rest HOs, &ect)

    Here is a power selection build, to see if I am started in the right direction. Feel free to tear it down.

    Flash Arrow becuase there is nothing else that early.
    Concealment pool to make solo easier.
    No Glacier or EMP Arrow, for the same reason no Frostbite.

    Also, I liked Freezing Point as a name quite a bit, but it was taken on my home server, Virtue, so will look for something similar. Good pun.

    Of course, this is all before playing the two together, so I could be talking out of my notch.
  8. I would like to run an Ice/TA/Ice APP Controller.

    It would be something different than I have run before. I have run controllers, though built toward solo play such as Illusion/Kin or Gravity/Kin, I have never run an Ice Controller though I hear a plethora of adoration for the set, and the one Trick Arrow I have run is a Corruptor, much different play style. Apace to that, it is something more unique, something I have not come across in my adventures so far.

    What I would like, before I sit down to put together a speculative build and roll the character, would be any tips one might have who may happened to have run one before, or anything based on pure speculation from past experience with the two sets. Looked over the forums, did not see anything similar.

    Poison Gas Arrow versus Flash Freeze.
    Perhaps the Confuse IO Set Cacophony proc for Energy Damage would set off the fire in Oil Slick Arrow, and if so, how would you focus the build toward spending as much time in melee with enough EndRedux and Recovery to leave Arctic Air on and around large spawns.
    Perhaps there is a trick outside of simple double stacked holds with Block of Ice and Ice Arrow that is not obvious. (not to mention the wonderful thematic purpose of an ice controller firing an ice arrow)

I have continued to have issues similar to many of those using Intel Chipsets where the game crashes on loadup, before even seeing the initial splash page, and like many of those, I have had no solution found other than to wait for a bug fix or updated driver (having the most updated version I am able to obtain).

    With the recent patch to the game on 5/12/10 I decided to give it another go. I still crash, but now with a different pop up:

    cityofheroes.exe - No Disk
    There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into the drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.

    No, I do not have the disk. Online client download.
    Yes, I have restarted the computer since the new update.
    Yes, I have reinstalled the game.
    Yes, I looked over the forums for similar issues first.

    Has anyone seen anything similar to this?
  10. Put this build together for my main character, an American patriot who wields a shield. Been trying to find the best build possible (or close to within the way I prefer to play) to begin to build the character toward. They have been level 50 for longer now than I can remember, and I feel it is time to finish their IO build, and begin spending the billions on Influence on something useful.

    Notice:
    - money is not an issue in this build (what can't be afforded now will be saved toward)
    - no travel powers taken for concept purpose
    - leadership pool is also in concept, though hope to mechanical use from
    - crane kick skipped for crippling axe kick (despite much argument this may bring from most, it is a personal preference, having read of and personally used both)
    - some set bonuses used as fillers for the added run speed and or leaping speed/height
    - order of placed IOs done while keeping exemplar in mind
    - placement of slots at levels was not done for the same as above, to be done in game

    If you have any other ideas on improvements, or suggestions of similar things, please let me know. Their positional defense is not soft caped, which is my biggest concern, but the only way I was able to prior to this build was at a large lose to recovery/gain to drain per second, which was a larger concern.

  11. (OOC):

    This is a build I've been working on after reading many a guide and comment over these boards, which I would not mind opinions on.

    There are a few things I should point out before hand:
    - I am aware there are other Dark Armor/Mace Builds on this board, I would input on my own and not a copy paste of someone else’s.
    - This is intended to be a roleplay build, meaning there are some options chosen with the character in mind over gameplay, but I feel overall it should be no less playable than any other Tank.

    The concept behind the build is a recently returned deceased, something of the Gentle Giant niche in Zombie form, who carries an old baseball bat wearing a soiled and torn leotard in a good and common heroic fashion sense, dedicated to keeping others out of their graves as he knows how lonely and frightening those places can be. He also happens to be quite frightful by circumstance. (he like I happens to be a fan of good bad horror films with a comedic twist in a classic Grindhouse style)

    Things to point out on the build:
    - I know that in use with a Mace, Oppressive Gloom is preferable to most over Cloak of Fear. Cloak of Fear was taken for the mentioned concept. Invoke Panic was taken to enhance its purpose. The sight of a Zombie alone should provoke a startle, if nothing else.
    - Provoke was used instead Taunt for the sole purpose of opening the Presence Pool. It is the weaker of the two for its intent, though I have tried to supplement this with the damage output and taunt duration of Death Shroud.
    - Provoke and Death Shroud were taken later into the build. I have never understood a Tank who takes their Taunt early before they can manage what they are bringing to themselves.
    - The Recovery is a low 179% (3.2/s), the Regeneration is a low 260%. However, there is a 7% +max Endurance with a Performance Shifter: Chance for +Endurance in Stamina and a similar IO proc in Dark Regeneration, which has been designed to be spam able in an effort to also compensate for the low Regeneration. This is one of the main points I would like input on.
    - S/L Defense is not Softcaped. I don't care to Softcap it if it means taking something away elsewhere. Over 40% next to a 70% S/L Resistance is still very functional. Nevertheless, if you have another idea I would like to hear it.
    - Yes Soul Transfer. Who doesn't like to see a Zombie rise from the dead.
    - Double points if someone is able to work a Chance for Negative Damage in there someplace.

    Dark/SS Tank

    Just a quick tip on the Endurance issue and Dark Regeneration.

    Dark Regeneration, while a clear Endurance hog none enhanced, can be made to be used to your advantage for Endurance issues. It is already arguably one of the best in game self heals, but if you were able to get a Theft of Essence: Chance for +Endurance in there, you will more often than not come out with more Endurance than you had when you click the power. Beg steal and bribe that IO away from someone.

    This is how I have my Dark Regeneration set up.
    Six Slot:
    - Theft of Essence: Chance for +Endurance
    - Theft of Essence: Accuracy/Endurance/Recharge
    - Theft of Essence: Accuracy/Endurance/Healing
    - Touch of the Nictus: Accuracy/Endurance/Recharge
    - Touch of the Nictus: Heal/HitPoints/Regeneration/Recharge
    - Standard Endurance Reduction IO

    It is a little expensive in the end though well worth the price. Not only will you be able to spam a self heal every 17 seconds healing yourself for 43% health per hit, but you will also have a 20% chance to gain 10% Endurance per hit, and at only 17 Endurance to click you can spam this quite a bit, given that the mob is large enough.

    This was a great guide. After reading it through, I sat down to a build I had been scouting for some time, but had never been able to get to a place I was comfortable with. The concept being tied to the name Zombie Boy, a Dark Armor/War Mace Tank. This, I know, it hard on END.

    I feel better about it now, but I am sure there are still some places to improve.

    - Though not taken to the softcap, S/L Defense had managed to make 42%.
    - The Regeneration is only 260% total.
    - I do not believe it will hold as much aggro as would be expected of a Tank.
    - Simply not enough enhancement slots to go around.

    To pick on single target attacks in low, I am aware. However every single target attack including Boxing has a chance for disorient. Pummel them enough in the chain, they have to feel dizzy at some point. Provoke was taken over Taunt, granted a weaker version by far, to start the Presence pool toward Invoke Panic, to be played alongside Cloak of Fear. This fearsome presence being a definitive roleplay aspect, but high hopes to make it work in game as best as it can. To make up for the lack of a good Taunt, I dropped two Taunt Duration IOs into Death Shroud to attempt at keeping them close long enough for the pulse on Death Shroud to stack. The final power of Soul Transfer could be made free for better powers, but who does not like to see a Zombie rise from the dead.
