To add to this: when they were in Beta, you could pay a discounted fee to purchase the game and thus enter into the Beta. Now the game is officially released, still being supported, and is cross platform. I had heard about minecraft a number years ago but didn't get into until 3 years ago when I ran into this youtube video. I figure that any game that can result in my opps burning down my home is a game worth playing.

    Their "forums".
  3. Indie developers.

    Like: Mojang

If I was going to develop a game, I would do it along the lines of Minecraft and avoid the producers. Notch essentially self-published the game.

Ummm... EVE Online is very alive and well. Not certain how you are trying to define died.
  5. As someone who also pre-ordered GW2 a long time ago and cannot return it, I find the game fun and would have alternated between it CoH/V, and EVE online. I honestly don't mine playing GW2 since there is no monthly fee to play and quite frankly, if any CoH player owns it, they may as well drain resources from NCSoft if they enjoy the gameplay. I won't be guying their 'jems' or anything else that transfers cash from my pocket to NCSoft.

If you find something you enjoy and is morally right, do it. Forget the crowd telling you otherwise.
  6. I could speculate on politics and certain upcoming taxe increases they would be responsible for starting in January, but it would be pouring gasoline on the wrong fire.

    Sorry .
And whats wrong with engaging the Seattle Web team? Are they fussy about time codes and have no sense of: "aww... sucks your game got canceled we'll change the background for you for old times sake?"

I use adblock a lot, but usually due to having a limited connection on my laptop when I am traveling or at work.
  8. lol... I forgot they were even locked. Never had a need for them given how many powers they already had available.
  9. There is something to think about...

At least you got to see it happen.
  10. That is actually a really good point. If we go out, let it be with a Bang - no moping, no pouting, just action.

Keep the server metrics up and going - show there is still active interest in the game.
  11. Golly. That is a depends question indeed.

Why am I starting over? If it still with NCSoft, then no. With another company because NCSoft didn't turn over character information, most likely yes.
  12. Voted.
805 to save and 145 to let it go.

Really... some people want to let it go? Wonder if they were thinking let someone else develop it?

NCSoft has a history of retaining their canceled IPs. Whether or not there is anyone interested in buying CoH/V may be irrelevant. Plus, it was only just over a week ago that the announcement came from Paragon that the plug was pulled. That we have heard nothing from NCSoft about the status of the game or paid accounts would seem to indicate that communication of anything else - say some other company wanting to buy the game, would also be muted.

Don't try to read personal feelings into what is going on - whether you like the game or not. It will just make you blind.
  14. They essentially owe me 10 months of subscription if you figure from 6/27 when I last paid for my year subscription to 8/31 when we heard about the cancellation of the game.

Since GW2 is the only product of their I have (AION is like gouging my eyes out with a hot poker given the grind) and GW2 accounts do not appear connected to NCSoft... I wonder how they plan to reimburse me aside from a pro-rated check/CC refund.
  15. I would love to give you five stars for that, but as you know, that rating system went out the door a long time ago.

Great, great post reminding me of a lot of what I had forgotten. Thank you UberGuy.
  16. That is one reason I would go with a server, and am asking for help as well: more hands means it gets done faster. A dedicated server runs less of a risk for infection than a laptop.

Dunno about Zeb or Notch. Don't even know if they play CoH/V

Yes, LOL! That one is my son's. My kids and I went to the first HeroCon and got them there.
  18. It was a passing thought really but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense to do and one that may be of interest to some people. I would post it on the minecraft forums, but it makes better sense to look for the minecraft players here to do it.

Proposal: We will obtain a server on which a large group of us will reconstruct Atlas Park. After it is completed, the save will be distributed to all interested parties.

    Any takers PM me.
If you already have a server (as in a full blown enterprise not the desktop at home ), definitely PM me.

    Edit:
Why: if you own minecraft, you will have a replica of Atlas park or other zones if built that you and others can walk through still after November 30th.

This should be legal since I have no intention to make money off of it and the distribution of the save is open for all. This is intended as a form of tribute to a game we all know and love.

Other considerations: texture pack suggestions will be most helpful in re-creating Atlas Park. Knowing the dimensions of Atlas Park will help greatly. The areas will be broken down and built section by section. The more people on this the faster it can be done.

    Brilliant move, NCsoft. Brilliant move.
Most likely they figure you have it installed already if you were playing prior to the 'announcement'. They most likely don't want to add to the user base.
  20. Doesn't the NC Soft launcher allow you to DL it? I forget... it has been awhile.

    Check your PM.
