Quote:Every 3 months or so I'll get an urge to try something different in the game, and I miss being able to hop into a PvP zone and run around like a lunatic.1) to answer the question while trying to debunk some of the myths, and rumors about i13.
2)Lets be honest, if I wanted to reach a targeted audience I had to go here. The original post was here. If I posted on the pvp forums, the pvpers would read it and go... ok, thanks, now where is my build for xxx/xxx and who starting the next league? If I post here, at least I can reach those people who believe some of those ideas that I think are false.
I don't think I've typed as much as I have in the last two days since I was in college.
If these posts (including the "I killed Zwill" thread) do something to make that possible again, I say more power to 'em. -
I'm genuinely curious as to why this thread (and the thread it spawned from) is here in General and not in the PvP Forum.
Has that forum finally died? That's what I was predicting when the forum ghettoization contracted PvP down to its last gasp.
Or is this some attempt at dragging Freems and Preems into a PvP discussion? Anything that increased the numbers would be good, I suppose. -
I don't know what the drop rate is, but I hope we get something we can trade these things for at some point.
I've only been playing one incarnate since I22 and I've already accumulated 6 catalysts on her. I only had a vague use for two, and that was with some judicious jiggering of a long-finished build. I *really* don't see myself ever slotting more ATOs into this character.
If I'm going to keep playing my 50s, which is apparently the design thrust behind the whole incarnate deal, I'm going to end up stockpiling a crapton of useless hunks of salvage.
Can we get some sort of trade-in? Even one Catalyst for an Astral Merit would be more useful than the loot as implemented right now. -
Ah,
So I22 gets to be one of the "Your freespec's coming, but it'll be a little late" issues.
Thanks for the news, I'll be a little happier going out and grabbing those ATOs now. -
Quote:That's why you have to check the sig down below.Wouldn't a casual player not really post on the boards, or get so unnecessarily snarky in their posts?
And it's now been 7 and a half years, not six. Last month I finally finished the last story arc in the game I hadn't seen (notwithstanding AE and Issue 22), so I'm getting crotchety about new stuff being new and not reminiscent of things we've already got.
I'm clinging barely to my tried-and-true schedule of 'play slower than the devs make new stuff'. Barely. I've now caught up with the current content being the only stuff I haven't done. And while I like the game a lot (having been subscribed for 7 years+) I know that if I tried to play more I would burn out and end up dropping it.
There are only so many times you can cruise around the Monopoly board before you get tired of playing Monopoly. And frankly, playing the Iron instead of the Race Car doesn't impact the journey that much.
I've gotten to the point where I want my token to be noticeably different. I want my Race Car to make zoom noises while the Iron gives off steam. I don't want my Dog to blink in the same way the Shoe and the Hat do, because that just doesn't cut it any more.
So I'll be giving the Staff a miss. I traded in points for Street Justice in January and it's function is just too similar to Dual Blades for me to go for yet *another* set in the same vein. (Especially now with the same mechanic added for all stalkers- thank you Bosstone for reminding me)
I admit my snark was a bit heavy. Psychic Melee sounds like it could be interesting. I quite like Time Manipulation and Darkness Control, even though I haven't gotten either set past level 22. But look at Bosstone's list again. In my opinion, there have just been too many sets released with the "build points towards an effect" mechanic in the last year.
I'm glad some people are happy this set is coming out, but I'm not going to support the powers design team falling into a rut just when I need them to step up their game, creatively. -
Quote:<----- Check that name over there again. That's not a total view of the set and as such one has to wonder have you played it on BETA yet? If so....I am clueless that you missed 1/2 of what the set is about....
No. No, I'm not on Beta. Beta is for the die-hard fans and people with more time on their hands than I have. There have been some summers when I've had some extra time to spare to help the devs hone their game, but certainly no time in the last 9 months.
I read the Intrepid Informer account of the powerset, I've watched the Dream Doctor fight with his staff, and I've seen the early vids on YouTube. That's been more than enough info to tell me this powerset looks and feels like a cheap clone of Titan Weapons and/or Street Justice, which were cheap clones of Double Bladed Weapons.
With all the player hype building for this set, you'd think it was the second coming. But it's doing nothing for me. And I'm prettttty sure anything I'm missing from the "total view of the set" is not on Beta but is rather in the minds of folks who want Staves NAO!
But please... feel free to tell me about the "1/2 what the set is about" that I've missed. Sound effects? The chance to roleplay some old DnD character? The inability to pair it with Shield Defense? What obtuse bit of marvelousness am I possibly missing? -
Soooo....
Staff Fighting is a smashing/lethal melee set with long animations that requires you to hit several times in a row to be able to activate its unique power.
Wonder where I've seen that before?
I'd like to believe the current powers team has more than one idea on how to create a power set, but they're not giving me much reason to do so. -
Quote:Yes, I agree. That's only if they (the devs) consider putting in new enhancements as a major change to one's build, and if they think they'll be used that much (likely a distant second).
By this thought, any time they introduce a new IO set period, they should offer a free respec, just so people can slot using the new set.
They should.
Glad to see you coming around to this side of the argument. -

I was OK with it (very OK when looking at what the new art assets mean for the future! wheeee) except for one bit:
The content of the Big Shiny Book of Rularuu:

What the heck? C'mon guys. I can't give your MA arc a decent score if you can't be bothered to finish it.
Or is it...

Quote:Translation: I don't want to be called out on whining about 'paying' for new powersets, so I'm going to post in this passive aggressive fashion and hope someone else whines for me.Just out of curiosity, how do you, as an individual, feel about buying new powersets even though you're a VIP member? I'm not taking sides here, nor will I support either one. I'm simply curious as to how the general community feels about this. Is it justified?
Thread Response: Not what you were looking for, was it bunky? -
Quote:Another thing that occurred to me while compiling this: How awesome would it be to be able to earn these rewards in game? I know you sort-of-can with the AE story arcs already, but I would play the living heck out of a Character Rename Trial, or a Bonus Character Slot Task Force. Maybe set up 3 maximum runs, like the way the Respec trials are built? I dunno.
-What we always had to buy (could not earn in game):
Extra character slots
Extra AE story arc slots
Character transfers
Character renames
But if it's good for the game to give people the chance to trade money for time sinks, I think it would also be good for the game to offer time-sinks in place of money grabs. -
What would that look like?
What would be in it?
There will of course be the ever-expanding list of new items, which we've never had access to before the Paragon Market existed. New enhancements, inspirations, costume sets, pets, temp powers, etc. These are great. New stuff is good and while we argue about price, no one's complaining that we're getting these items.
However, I'm going to ignore those for the moment and just focus on game "rewards" that existed prior to the market, because I see a trend building along with a wave of complaints.
I've come to the conclusion that everything you can get by playing the game will eventually be sold for Paragon Points, with the possible exception of actual levels. (I'm speaking from the point of view of a VIP player, not Free or Premium) If you look at what's been released to the Paragon Market over the past 6 months, you can see more and more of the game's rewards being unlocked and sold via Paragon Points. In a Mature Paragon Market, anything you currently must play the game to unlock will also be sold to unlock. We're most of the way there now, it's just a matter of time.
-What we always had to buy (could not earn in game):
Extra character slots
Extra AE story arc slots
Character transfers
Character renames
-What we can buy now (may earn in game now):
Costume Slot unlocks
Cape unlocks
Aura unlocks
Epic AT unlocks
Enhancement sets (including rares and uniques)
XP Boosters
Prestige Boosters
Inf/Reward Boosters
Respecs
Tailor tokens
Temporary powers
Alignment switches
(some) Costume set unlocks
-What I expect to be able to buy in the future (must earn in game now):
Zone unlocks
(all) Costume unlocks
Weapon/Shield customization unlocks
Badges
Accolade powers
Incarnate unlocks
Very rare enhancements
/edit: Salvage- although I would expect it to be upgraded salvage in the same way we got upgraded inspirations
I'm sure there's more I've missed or haven't thought of, but that's why I'm posting, to get more group-think on this matter. I'm also sure that when each of the items in the red category comes to market there will be a noticeable segment of the player base complaining- but those complaints won't stop the sale. -
Quote:You need to check the Mac forum more oftenJust a bit of necroposting to let you guys know that apparently Suckerpunch's online builder is still offline. Which is too bad for guys like me who are on a mac and use it as a last-ditch substitute for Mids.
It's buggy, but functional! -
I was on Champion a couple of minutes ago, then things went flooey.
But yeah, looks like everything's down now. Even took a bit to log into the forums. -
Let me chime in and offer my heartfelt thanks for this!
Mids was a favorite pastime for me before I went over to Mac last year, and it's great to have it back. -

The Iron Sky, that is!
/wheeee, less than a month to go! -
Does anyone have an accurate history of issue releases in which we did or did not receive freespecs?
Some sort of authority on this would dampen one of the dimensions of this discussion.
My memory is that we almost always got one. I'm hard pressed to think of an issue in which we didn't, at least going back to #3, the first release I was here for. -
John Carter was surprisingly good, I thought.
I'm a fan of planetary romances and put it on my "go-see, regardless" list, but I had little hopes of that dated a story being done well in today's movie environment. (Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom novels are 100 years old this year)
It *is* of course still a dated story, but it *was* done well. Surprise thumbs up all around!
John Carter and Dejah Thoris were not as bland as I'd feared they would be, and the supporting cast shines beautifully. The villainy gets a (much-needed) update and Disney's clearly left themselves plenty of room for sequels. (Unless the overseas box-office does amazing, though, it doesn't look like that's going to happen)
I hadn't known that Andrew Stanton (of Wall-E and Finding Nemo) was directing or that Michael Chabon (Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay) co-wrote it. The movie also features the actors who played Atia, Julius Caesar and Marc Antony from HBO's "Rome" in supporting roles, and that's almost a recommendation in itself.
It's not the sort of thing I expect to succeed well with the general public. But if you're a fan of old-fashioned hero tales, like I expect most folks around here are, go and see it.
It's a fun time. -
Quote:Ah, you can ignore that PM from me, then. Thanks for the public reply, Zwill.Currently, there are no plans to issue a free respec coinciding with the launch of Issue 22.
My apologies to anyone who may be disappointed by this.
Zombie Man's post sums up my thoughts well on this, but I would not be too surprised to see BrandX's logic chain win out. -
So what I take from the replies here is that there was no official word one way or another about a freespec for I22 and that we're all just speculating based on our individual experiences from past issues.
I've also got ~ a half dozen vetspecs sitting around on my characters so it's not that big a deal. But I am curious about the rationale one way or another. Guess I'll drop Zwill a line. -
I have a couple gravity control characters, and wanted to switch some powers and enhancements around.
But I got the message that I had no free respec available. Buh-wha? o.O
Is this an oversight, or a paradigm shift?
I know we've had issues where the freespec showed up a tad late, and I'm hoping that's what's happened again.
But with the new income model, respecs may now be considered another stream of revenue.
Was there some word one way or another in beta? -
Don't mean to threadjack, but I haven't been paying too much attention to beta lately.
I've read the info on converters up on Paragon Wiki, but I'm not clear on one thing: do you get to choose the set and individual IO you convert your enhancement into? Or do you get a random one from the set you want?
