I took Steamy Mist at 10 (and I love it, stealth for all without using up a power pool!) and at 12 did actually pick up Crushing Field because I'd heard such bad things about Dimension Shift.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You get Freezing Rain at 16 isn't it? You'll love the Crushing Frield / Freezing Rain combo. It strips defense too so if you do Crushing Field -> Freezing Rain -> GDF you'll hit more of them with the GDF.

Steamy Mist is a wonderfully understated power. Slap it on and never think about it again but you've got stealth + some nice Damage resists against fire, nrg and cold. Slot it with +dmg resists, not +defense as the defense is tiny,
  2. I'm afraid my broadband hasn't come through yet folks so I'm going to assume its not going to be here today.

So i'm gonna have to cry off on you guys as i feared. Soz. Was looking forward to it too.

Not looking forward to another CoX-less weekend though

Good luck with it though folks. Headbutt a Skyraider in the groin for me!!

    Mmmm. Psychotropic cheese *drools*

Just think of the dreams you'd have eating that before bed.

TA isn't that buggy, it just has niggles.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Indeed but compared to what I thought it offered thanks to the Hero Builder (my only frame of reference last night) the AOE damage is down a fair bit and that was one of the selling points for me. Vicious control and a nice dash of AOE damage of different types.

Still I've enough alts to be going on with . Just wish I could play them.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
There's a big problem with TA : animation times. As a Mind, you have to do most of your damage by yourself (and the part done by confused mobs don't give you xp directly, although it increases xp gained in the long run).

Spending 3 sec doing Entangling arrow to set up Containment on one target, while in the same time you could have done Dominate, Hypnosis and started Levitate's animation isn't that great.

I'm playing a Grav/TA atm, mostly solo, and my TA powers sit on the tray unless I'm fighting a boss. In groups, some TA powers are good to make up for the lack of control Gravity has at low levels, but Mind has very good control right out of the box.

/TA shouldn't be that bad for a bad-decent control, passive damage primary (Fire or Ill can fit this). However, Mind has so many control options and all of its damage being dealt by the controller, I don't see a great sinergy in Mind/TA.

Anyway, take Mass hyp! It's your best containment option, and it's very underrated (sleeps boss in one hit).

    [/ QUOTE ]
The main reason I picked Mind / TA was that TA was one of the only unexplored secondaries of interest to me. Although now I know how buggy it is I'm not so keen any more. Sonics was the other one I was thinking but I don't like being Mr Buffbot if I can help it (yes I know I've 2 Kinetics chars in their 20s. Ignore that )
  6. Actually anyone notice the Rumour Control I7 Info Wealth item
    [ QUOTE ]

    PATRON POWERS
Players are given “hard” numbers for everything of each individual power, which has never been done before.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Is this just for CoV Patron powers or all current sets? It'd solve a lot of issues with the vaguness TA.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Acid Arrow does about 5*0.23 points of damage.

It's nice not to have to wait to level 41 to explode oil slick. My Phantom loves exploding it.

The bug in Controller Poison Gas Arrow causes it to only affect its target and no other mobs in the aoe. The chance of sleep is 5% checked only once. It doesn't do any damage, it just debuffs damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well that sucks for a new powerset. It's been live for nearly a year hasn't it? That's ridiculous. Cryptic I ridicule you!!

The Hero Builder lists it as doing about 2.1BI of toxic damage you see and claims it has a chance of doing a short-term hold. I was thinking it'd be like a one-shot Choking Cloud in Rad with damage.

Grav/Storm? Take it before you take Freezing Rain definitely. Otherwise get used to watching the mobs scatter like roaches when the light comes on (as my Illusionist does).

[/ QUOTE ]That's what hurricane and snow storm are for

    [/ QUOTE ]
Indeed. But it gets a little messy sometimes.

Messy is Storms second name though in fairness
  9. Don't agree here. PvP zones are "open fire" zones. If you go in you could easily die. The EULA thing was drawn up for PvE zones really and don't translate well.

Removing the debt and xp entirely would be one solution but I wonder how many people you would lose from PvP zones if they didn't yield XP? Quite a few I'd wager as people would be completely forced to PvE to level up.
  10. Well since we've got another Fire/Rad I can bring Soloth instead and be Mr Buff-bot if you like? I might even get Transfusion (the End one whichever it is) halfway thru (about 25.5 at the mo). Plus double Kinetics is always fun with Speed Boost & Siphon Speed stacking. And double Siphon Power would boost damage even more.

Still no Broadband yet though so this may be all academic for me yet.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Mind/TA will be heavy on controll, but a bit light on damage.

The damage from TA itself is negigable. Acid arrow does less damge than brawl. Oil Slick Arrow neads fire or energy damage to ignite, which I don't think mind can provide.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm going on the Hero Builder only so I could be wrong but Acid Arrow had a BI higher than brawl. Of course that means little if the damage is less.
Oil Slick Arrow you only get at 35 and I would have planned to get Fire or Power Blast (power=energy right?) at 41 to ignite it if I was creating this char.

    [ QUOTE ]

The debuffs, particularly to damage resistance are sizable (2*20% or there abouts). Defense is also debuffed by Acid Arrow.

The mez for Glue Arrow, Net Arrow, Ice Arrow and EMP Arrow have a longer durations than the defender versions.

Controller Poison Gas Arrow is bugged atm. Avoid at all costs.

    [/ QUOTE ]
In what way is it bugged? Just wondering, I'm not planning to play this really, it just seemed a different sort of build in case I get a dose of Altitis again
  12. I've used Siphon on a Corrupter as my sole travel power in CoV. Painful indeed.

With my Kinetics Defender however I went Siphon Speed at level 6, Air Sup at 16 and Fly at 18 just in time for the new zones of Talos & IP where I was pretty weak. Works pretty well. Could also have gotten IR at 18 but I wanted Air Sup & to try out Fly.
  13. So I was messing with the hero builder last night since I'm still internet-less and was thinking about a Mind / TA controller.

On paper it looked very powerful. You have:
A single target immobilise via entangle arrow. Nice for Containment.
2 single target holds in Dominate & Ice Arrow.
3 AOE holds in Telekinesis, Total Domination and EMP Arrow & a pseudo-one in Poison Gas Arrow.
A single & AOE confuse power (which gathers you no aggro),
AOE Fear & damage via Terrify
A series of debuffs via TA (not as powerful as Rad but the figures seem alright). From what I can remember Accuracy, Speed, Damage Resist can all be debuffed. Think the figures are 20% for acc. Not sure about the rest.
Extra AOE damage also from Poison Gas & Acid Arrow.

I'd even consider taking Mass Hypnosis for Contaiment fun, follow it up with Terrify or Acid Arrow.

The damage types are nicely varied too. Psi, toxic and whatever Acid Arrow does. The option of some smashing via lift plus pool powers too.

Anyone played one of these? They seem pretty powerful on paper despite Trick Arrows rep.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    Hey Prox

    You should definately get it!

You won't have much use for it before Freezing Rain since it basically draws aggro, but the sweet thing here is the synergy between Grav and Storm

Most AoE immobs have - knockdown/back for 10 secs after applying thus negating Freezing Rain but the Grav immob doesn't!! : This basically means you will debuff the mobs, knock them down and set up containment...its a must take power IMO....just not instantly.

+ you can use it with Wormhole to do a makeshift hold

    [/ QUOTE ]
And you can then shuffle them around with Hurricane too. The accuracy debuff should keep you safe enough if you throw in a few SOs, especially if theres a good Tank on your team, just don't knock em back too much, learn to herd them with the edges of the 'cane which does pushback.
  15. Yep I'd agree. Just don't go nuts with it. Unless theres a Fire / Ice tank or a Spiney or Dark shieldy thingy Scrapper on the team to out aggro it.
  16. Ice / Dark is certainly the villainous Flavour of the month.

But a DDC (Dark/Dark Corrupter) will give you some AOE control with Dark Pit (its a little bit better than the Defender version I think) and Tentacles. Plus you'll still have the Single Target Hold from Dark Miasma.

    Just a suggestion.
  17. Isn't Wormhole an AOE TP & Disorientate?

If so theres no contest. A second containment causing AOE mez. Mmmm.
  18. Grav/Storm? Take it before you take Freezing Rain definitely. Otherwise get used to watching the mobs scatter like roaches when the light comes on (as my Illusionist does). Plus it doesn't bestow knockback resistance to mobs AFAIK (unlike other AOE immobs) so it works well with Hurricane too.

The AOE Containment is less useful for you due to lack of AOE damage powers. But Grav & Storm synergises so well for the two reasons outlined you should definitely have it at some point.

    Jump Kick?

Then how are they supposed to pick up SJ...
  20. Carnifax

    Jump Kick?

In PvE I find you stop using melee attacks like Air Sup & Jump Kick in your early 20s with Support chars (controller & defender in my case) anyway. A lot of the people saying "Its terrible" may be scrappers / tanks. I know it sucked with my Fire Tank (yeah I know. I took Jump Kick instead of Combat Jumping on a Fire Tank. It was my 1st char).

Jump Kick isn't as good as Air Sup but with Containment it's certainly useful until later in the game when you've lots of other powers to play with instead.

    Solo troller??

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I'd go with the majority here. Illusion/Fire + Rad for a powerful early / mid build. You can spend your teens cleaning out masses of mobs in Boomtown and the like. With Fire I'd be harvesting masses of Blue/Green minions, with Illusion maybe avoid Hazard Zones and take on smaller groups of Yellows/Oranges, esp Lieuts and bosses.

Post 38 Kinetics is the Damage king, but you've to get to 38 first . Also as I've said before soloing kinetics seems like such a waste thanks to Speed Boosts. The SB love really should be spread around.

    [/ QUOTE ]

when soloing with my fire/kin my imps love the SB

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hell yeah. But its such a great power you should be sharing with the world!! Everyone! In a mad drive-by spree of Speed Boosts! Imps & Teamies and fellow heroes and their pets onlookers and drones and pedestrians and mobs.... Erm, better not mobs actually
  23. [ QUOTE ]
IMO, if you've met an Earth Controller who ONLY uses his AoE immobilize, and doesn't focus on heal (empath or something like empath), he isn't controling, he is showing off his good looking AoE immobilize power and that's all.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Just on this. Earth? Good looking holds? I agree its a great set but I really wouldn't call the "I capture you in a mountain of poo" holds and immobilises good looking
  24. Note that Containment is a factor of if the opponent is Held / Immob / Stunned (/ slept?) and what attacking power you are using. What I mean is it doesn't matter if they got mezzed from Primary, Secondary or even by the Dark Defender beside you catching them in Tenb. Tentacles if you attack them with Primary, Seconary or Pool powers that do direct damage (including DOT) you'll do Containment damage. So Spectral Wounds and Blind will do containment on disorientated mobs but your pets won't (including the level 9 storm power).

-DEF, -ACC, -Dmg, -Res, -Spd, -Recharge, -Fly, -Jump, and -DEF in almost every attack in the earth set. Add that to the disorients every 90 seconds base time, knockback effects (-tohit buffs) every 90 seconds base time, tic-holds and a hold, immobilizes every 4 and 8 seconds (-DEF anyone?). A team can see when a troller dies - that is when it all turns red. So what if you can't kill a fly - you can certianly debuff the fly to death

    [/ QUOTE ]

all those debuffs make me wonder if its more of a defender set than a controller, i havent had much experience of seeing earth controllers (and i have one incidentally lvl 5) but i have seen some earth controllers chuck stone cages on a group only to have the group pull out their guns and shoot them dead (not you ofc) however the animated stone is very cute and impressive.
