I'm not really sure how I feel about this. After nearly four and a half years (not counting time off; in calendar time, more like five and a half) of dawdling along, taking a sort of perverse pride in the leisureliness of my pace, Captain Photon has at last reached the level cap. I can no longer chime into the inevitable "level wang" discussions noting that I've been playing for more than four years, don't have a 50, and feel just fine about that, because now I have one.
Oh well. I still don't have a level-capped villain, and it seems kind of doubtful at this point that I ever will, but who knows. Stranger things have happened. -

Quote:Yeah, I know. Just like they never turned off the Rikti invasion. Peeved me so much I took most of a year off. In some circles I'm still under threat of a beating if I mention how annoyed I am about it again. You can blame that on people turning in Halloween salvage for a costume slot. The Devs just didn't turn off the chance of zombies after Halloween.

Quote:Well, there was the Therac-25...I defy you to provide a single example where updating computer code lead to the death of a human being(s).

Quote:In that case, it'd only aggro on NPCs, and people would complain about it stealing their kills when they're working on that badge you get for escaped convicts.Obviously a moat monster is needed as extra security as the prison has apparent problems with escaping inmates

Quote:Hey, I got that a little while ago too. "youare suppose to be helping. too much for you to handle i guess". My favorite explanatory comment for negative rep, though, remains the following, and I'm quoting directly: "-" Uh, yeah, I know you gave me negative rep, dude, the little orange chiclet was my first clue.If people can neg me for, and I quote, "not being helpful", then they'll neg for any reason. I didn't know that every post on these boards were supposed to be "helpful".

Quote:I once spent a dayI actually did it for one post, and found it was fun to type, and that people found it amusing.
Posting exclusively in
The form of haiku.
Years ago, and I can't even remember why now - I think it started in an argument I was having with somebody (Perfect_Pain maybe?) over posts being too verbose. It was surprisingly diverting, and reactions to it split roughly along the lines you mention, with some people liking it and others PMing me saying "Whats wrong with u? U should quit game." (Which was as close as you could get to -rep in those days.) -
This comes up quite a lot; sometimes people ask for NPCs that can do thing (sell inspirations, what have you), sometimes they just want random labcoated "civilian employees" and the like milling about. The former is probably overkill with all the other opportunities characters have for getting inspirations, training, and os forth; the latter would be nice, but purely cosmetic mods are probably pretty low on the ol' developer priority list. Still, it'd be nice.

Haven't noticed any particular issue, except in the usual places where people always like to congregate in stupidly large numbers and stand there spamming PBAoE powers for no purpose.

Quote:Hm? Someone did it before you? I guess I missed that. Aha! You're quite right, I hadn't noticed that.Nice to see the person who did it before me to discredit me not get flamed though.
On the other hand, Forbin didn't go for the all-caps, and, for that matter, wasn't the one asserting that subs are down when they aren't. So I suppose we'll call this one a wash and move on to other things. -

This is getting a little like that running gag with Jeff Goldblum's character in The Right Stuff.
"It's called Sputnik!"
"We know. Siddown." -
Quote:"Get on with the sucking it up" just seemed too awkward. I figured it would be fine to leave the "it" to be inferred from context, and from the quote. But, fine, have it your way:I would like to point out that the phrases "suck up" and "suck it up" have completely different meanings. The first refers to being a sycophant, while the second refers to perseverance or stoicism.
In which case, recognizing this reality, perhaps it's time we piped down and got on with the sucking it up. -

As far as I know there's no official explanation. IMO, the most logical assumption is that it's a time sink. They used to design all sorts of those into the game, back in the day. It was part of Jack's Vision of Gaming Nirvana.

Quote:When Cap was in the mid-40s I used to get badgered constantly to bridge for people or pad teams, both of which tasks, as I understand them, mainly involve hanging around just inside the instance door and letting other people actually play the game. That doesn't particularly interest me, and I got tired of all the requests, so I eventually changed my search comment to "No, I won't bridge or pad for you."On a similar note, i had my search comment a few days ago saying "not lft sorry". This is what happened [obviously not exact words]
Player A: Hi there want to join us? Doing radio missions in kings.
Me: No thanks im semi-afk so wouldnt be much use but ty anyway.
Player A: Ah sorry just noticed your search comment, sorry for the PM.
When a player actually says sorry for a slight mistake like that, they instantly get some form of positive rep in my eyes.
Shortly thereafter I got a message from some random stranger to the effect of, "lol i didnt know any1 was stupid enough to refuse free xp."
I like your reported experience better. -
The point is that having a regular, recurring archfoe is one of the central tropes of superhero/supervillain comics, and the world of City of Heroes will always be missing an essential piece of the cultural picture until some provision for same is included in player characters' careers.

Uh... no, not quite. The online store being broken seems to disable access to extra character slots above the usual 12, but it doesn't prevent characters from being made in any non-extra slots that may still be empty.

Why would I bother asking the developers to force people I don't want to associate with to team up with me? I'm perfectly happy fighting crime by myself if I can't find anybody else with a tolerable personality.

I dunno, I've seen the "pickup teaming is dead, the game will soon follow" posts crop up time and again over the last few years, but I've yet to see it happen...
