Here's a real kicker of a glitch. Was doing Frostfire and the mission had no ice or fire effects during the whole mission on the wals or floors. But the whole team was still slipping and sliding on.....bare carpeted floors.
[/ QUOTE ]
My nephew and I did the Frostfire mission last night, I should have realized something was up when there wasn't any ice in sight (played the mission often enough in the past). It's like the ice's visual f/x was shut off.
For example, when I was trying to pull a minion using Mutagen (the two of us didn't have provoke or long range attacks), I had to run up close enough to use it, and I ended up sliding smack dab into the mob. My character would go over the invisible ice, no sliding on the carpet itself.
It was only really visible when you were on it when a toggle power was on (Unyielding, which we both had). So if you haven't memorized where all the ice is supposed to be (and there are several variations of the mission's maps), the best bet we'd found is use Hover or Flight if you have it or just be careful not to run around expecting to keep on bare floor. -

Bingo. That pretty much nails our design on bases. We're slowly but surely making additions and changes based on feedback & data. We'll get there...I think bases are a case study where a design didn't mesh well with actual gameplay! For some odd reason, some posters have thought my Serious Games speech blamed the players; heck no! Bases are 100% a DESIGN problem. Not a player problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
If there was a future game plan for player homes/bases/lairs, that'll be great. I know it's been said that players could form their own SG to make a place to call their own, but it's great to have an actual SG (and base) while having one's own private domain. -
Just remember: Dead men don't wear plaid!
Good luck, and have fun -
Please fix the None option for heads. I had a character with a bald head, and it looked like he had a shiney cover over his head. Same with the shaved headed Freaks, and the bald Icon tailors, etc.
I had to use a token to fix my character's head, but please make a fix to it without the need for spending Influence/costume token. This fix would help out both players and NPCs alike.
This bug is both in I7 and I8. Hopefully it'll get fixed before I8 goes Live. -

I remember the initial shock everyone had (me included) when Jack Emmert didn't look a thing like Statesman.... But that's the whole point of a game like City of Heroes, you can make just about any kind of character.
I remember when the Pre-Beta forum members were anxiously waiting to see if they'd get the chance to join one of the waves of the Closed Beta. Most (if not all games) had people having to fill out forms, stating what games you've played (online and otherwise). Even after playing SWG, it was a pain trying to apply for it's first expansion Jump to Lightspeed. Prior to SWG, I had no other experience in MMORPGs (BBS RPG games don't count).
With CoH, no prior experience was needed, but being in Beta was a lesson in patience and trying to submit any bug I found (when it was safe to do so...). Hey, it might take days or months, but it's satifying to see something you pointed out before getting fixed.
I remember when everyone had to do train hopping to get to the right station. Man, that was a pain, esp. when there was no way to tell which zone your team mates went to, unless they told you.... Then again, there's more than a few times where I accidentally went one station too many and had to go around again
I remember going to Steel Canyon for the first time and getting slaughtered while my tanker and scrapper friends collectively sighed at the reckless blaster that I was (and usually still am)....
I remember when it was 'working as intended' if the mobs were within 3 levels of your characters. Even on a good sized team, it was difficult or downright impossible at the time to complete such a mission (esp. the timed ones, like the one I had against the Tsoo..., dang Yellow Inks, Sorcerers and Ancestor Spirits!).
I remember when people were requesting letters to be added to the chest emblems. When it was announced that the response was so great that the powers that be decided to throw them into the mix, people were emboldened to ask for the Greek Alphabet as well (yay, Vet Rewards).
-
I remember when the AI for mobs either crashed or went to sleep. The SG I was with could have just breezed through the missions, but boredom won the day so we sent in a bug report (like a lot of others, I reckon).
'Oops, I ran around a corner and there's a embalmed there!'
*seconds later*
'Ummm, I've been hitting it, but it's just sitting there....'
I remember how I thought when I1 came out that they'll be new costume items to go with the costume slots that was introduced.... Sure would have been nice if there was something new at the time to actually have some use from the new slots....
I remember how people thought it was weird that mobs referred to passing/attacking heroes as 'Capes' when nobody, not even signature heroes, had them. It was almost like a taunt or a plain insult to hurt the heroes mentally since capes weren't offered until I2.
I remember having to log off and try again when it came to the 'Defeat x Contaminated' missions in Outbreak because the generation for new mobs was set so low, and they needed a lot of space between the generation points and the players in order to appear.
It was a ghost town most of the time because of that. One thing for sure, it forced a lot of people to team up when they didn't know how to do that (at least all the ones that were trying it out with their first character; more than a few couldn't get past tutorial because of this)....
Good thing badges didn't come along until later or good luck with trying to get the badge when it wasn't hard for other people to inadvertantly clean the map. -

I remember getting trapped in one of the fountains in Atlas Park because I didn't know how to jump ...
[/ QUOTE ]
Same thing happened to me in Outbreak. I was playing Star Wars Galaxies before getting into CoH Beta and the closest thing they had to 'jump' was an emote. -
Paddles was the way to play games when I was a little kid.
Mind you, I was more in the joystick generation. An older game I liked the Genesis game (pre-Sega) with the four heroes in a fantasy game where you had to run around a maze. The point was to get a key to get to the next level while dealing with the monsters that wandered the maze.
There was a wizard (used sleep spells on the monster), a warrior (had a magic sword that would destroy the monsters and randomly teleport other heroes to another part of the maze; my brother's favourite), a thief (I forget what he could do, but I think it can either use something like a placate power or could just get out without the key), and my favourite, the fantom (I believe it was spelled with the 'f' rather than the 'ph'; I named my first (Basic) D&D character after that one; his power was to phase through walls).
Of course, this game was in the day when it was at least mostly monochromatic and you had little stick-figures to play with. -

Since this has come up so often, I guess I will leak a feature of Issue 8:
You can change your title at any of the following levels:
15, 25, 35, and 45
At 50 you can change your title at any time.
You need to visit a trainer still to change your title and they "don't stack" (in other words, if you don't use your level 35 change, you don't have two changes when you hit level 45).
There is no Influence or Infamy cost associated with this.
[/ QUOTE ]
As long as this leak was done in a controlled fashion.... No need to level a city block or two -
I remember my first post on the Pre-Beta forums about heroes from other countries needing passports.... Man, did the post ever get flamed! That wasn't the intention of the thread mind you.
I joined the forums when I got High-Speed back in Jan., 2002. It was a time of constant 'Orange Alert' and all that Jazz. I needed to find out if what was happening was going to trickle into the game, and how the posters thought of the concept.
I'm glad that people, regardless of country of origin (i.e. USA, Canada, Germany, etc.), was against it. After all, heroes from around the world gathered to help Paragon City (and the world) in it's greatest need.
I remember how much of a pain in the but it was to figure out how to reserve character names from Beta due to the ever changing rules.... I was too busy trying to get my highest level character up in level for the Rikti Invasion endgame to keep up with the changes.
I remember when Super Reflexes was one of the worst powersets to have (but I took it anyway, but ended up deleting the character for other reasons even though it seemed ok to me..., at least at the level he was at).
I remember the first demands that Super Lanes be opened up (who wasn't inspired by the sign with the woman doing a flying kick on the bowling pins???).
I remember how the powers were going to be selected, through a weighted method, depending on your origin (the number of powers you had depended on origin, but fewer powers you had the more powerful the powers were to be).
I remember at that time, it was planned to have handguns as a power and it was first determined that it's when you click on a weapon power that it shows up, so there's no need for an inventory (or sheaths/holsters).
I remember Color-blind (sp?) Man!
I remember how difficult it was to level up faster than other players in my main SG, there was no such thing as Sidekicks and Exemplars. That's why the SG came up with a two character/SG member rule, so the lower level SG members can still team up with the ones with higher level characters.
I remember how much of a pain it was to try to figure out how to find my contacts after they were distributed from Galaxy City and Atlas Park into other zones (such as KR and Steel City).
I remember one of my first Level boost in Beta, it was because of Jose being broken (as a previous poster said). One of my characters out-leveled his contact as a result, and at that time I couldn't get a new contact. I petitioned it, and was told that there was nothing could be done, so the only thing I could do for that character is to rely on other players to play missions or do hunting (which in those days, hunting means 'good luck in ever leveling your guy').
I'm glad they fixed it so you can still get the next contact even if you inadvertantly skipped one.
I definitely remember the demand for cowbells as a costume option.
I remember demands for cat ears for males, moving tails, actual glowing eyes like the Contaminated and CoT (let alone capes, jetpacks, wings, etc.).
I remember seeing some skins of Statesman available in one of the Freedom Force skins sites. There was a brief blurb under a lot of the skins describing the character skins. At the time, they were interesting, but that was around the time when I've heard about a certain computer development team that was looking for a publisher to be able to make a new (and the only one at the time) superhero-based MMO....
I remember when the pre-beta boards had some of the more vocal members of the forums being Moderators.
I remember joining a bunch of my main SG mates in the first Villain SG, The Circle of Twelve. And yes, that was before City of Villains was announced, and before CoH went into Beta. Both characters I made for it (one based on a villain I'd made long before City of Heroes, and one made just for it; I couldn't decide which one to have as a member for the SG) are now in my stable of CoV villains. -

I remember trying to get used to the background colours to the CoH Beta Forums and the current Forums. I kind of miss the black/grey backgrounds of the posts, though it was a gamble of which colour text to use to better show up on the background (esp. when so many would post while you are typing up a message).
I remember not being afraid to use the melee powers for blasters and being yelled at for actually using them (before the damage for the blaster melee was boosted).
At one time blasters were going to be able to have melee weapons (the martial weapon set looked cool, with the katana, and all that), but having support powers for the ranged aspect of blasters came into play.
There was a time when people would pick defenders over blasters because their ranged attacks did as much as blasters, had more hit points, and could heal (mind you it was a time when everybody thought all defender power sets had some kind of heal and rez....).
Controllers were picked over defenders because their buffs/debuffs were just as powerful as the defenders (from what I've heard, the difference now isn't as much as some people would like), and controllers had their control powers too boot (and it was a time when as long as you had Hasten you could summon multiple pets, including lots of Fire Imps).
Did they shrink down the Kraken? I seem to remember him being a lot larger before they made the Sewer Trial.... It's a lot harder to tell the difference between him and the other Hydras now, besides the purple when you target him.
I remember when they decided to boost the number of Hellions in Atlas and Galaxy City due to the huge numbers of players in those zones at the time.
I miss the April Fool's event during Beta where titles were changed (I remember seeing one with at title that referenced to Micheal Jackson..., the guy who had it was rather embarassed) and there were tonnes of Contaminated from Outbreak running around Atlas.
I remember deleting so many characters because I realized I made a mistake in the power/enhancement selections and there was no way to change it like they do nowadays (respec).
I remember when it was being said that respecs would allow you to change your powersets, and not just your powers (mind you, you still wouldn't be able to change your AT, but that's the same as it is now anyways).... -

I used to get yelled at for posting one-shot origins by DangYankee or whatever his name was in the Origins Thread. It wasn't like I needed to have multiple posts of the same guy, and it did help me to join great SG that ended up disintegrating into a pile of ash, but that's another story....

Is the code for GvE actually available to be bought, or is it just CoH/CoV for now? It would be great to at least be able to buy it now, even if we can't actually access the stuff that way (because it won't activate until Oct. 6th). If anything else, then to beat the rush and possible lag time from so many trying to order the code.

Problem with a character called the Caretaker, it's already been done with Star Trek: Voyageur. Maybe something different would be in order?

Where did the lava come from? Isn't the Moon (not the large 'M' because there's lots of moons and ours doesn't have anything better except Luna, which is where word lunatic get's it's meaning
) devoid of volcanic activity due to the cold core?
Wouldn't it be cooler if, similar to the Shivans, that threats from space had impacted/crash-landed on the Moon? Or that there was a secret base built by the Malta agents, with covert flights to and from the Earth?
What if some otherdimensional being(s) decided to create a santuary of exotic and nearly extinct creatures (and people) which is shielded from detection? -

* "Invisible Players/Enemies on Map" - Again, we think we may have this fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Would that also include invisible doors? There was a mission with invisible mobs, and a door that I knew was there, but couldn't be interacted with because of the invisibility bug. I couldn't tp through it (because it was in the way), and couldn't open it because it 'wasn't there'. -
Probably has been posted, but the 'Wire Globe' emblem shows up as the bio-hazard emblem. The raptor/bird of prey 'ornate 2' or whatever it's called doesn't show up at all.
I haven't tried everyone of them, but these two stick out the most. -
Unable to post screenie (able to send via e-mail, don't have a website and linkie thing), but I know that male/boots/zombie needs some fixing. Totally off-colour from the rest of the zombie costume pieces. Elsewhere the skin may be pale grey, the boots look they are pale peach.

Description of Entangling Arrow (with the new slow effect added) needs correction.
'The Entangling Arrow can bring down flying entities, halts jumping and slows all of your actions.'
I'd think this was supposed to be along the lines of: 'slows all of target's actions.' -

Yesterday I was running the missions in Bloody bay and three times I ran into a disturbing problem...
When zoning in from COV I ended up someplace other then the villan base.
One time I ended up in the forest to the east of the base and twice I zoned in directly to the city, once with a hero no more then 20 feet from me!
Luckily I go in with shields up and managed to run, choose a mission and enter the mission door before he could touch me.
Is this a known bug?

[/ QUOTE ]
This is a known bug. According to QA, it's related to having the shivan shard temp power (there might be other things that cause it, too, but this is what they've been able to reproduce).
[/ QUOTE ]
None of my characters had that temp power. But the character I played in Bloody Bay had a problem with appearing in random spots on the map when zoning in from CoV. -
I know this won't get answered, but here it goes: My level 10+ characters on the Training Room got either a Heart of Darkness or Heart of Light accolade. Reading the descriptions made me wonder if they were supposed to be for the (hopefully) upcoming Hero/Villain switch feature (as in being able to switch sides, and have a hero go to RI as a villain, and villain becoming a hero in Paragon).
Or is it supposed to be awarded after doing the missions in Pocket D?
