  1. With the upcoming Power Proliferation and changes to the Hollows, I'll give the updated Hollows a whirl.
  2. I'd like to see hunting reserves set up. As a means of testing the Destined Ones, and to analyze combat potential of enemies, set up by Lord Arachnos. These reserves could have City of Heroes critters, as well as NPC groups (Trolls and Outcasts for example, humans are among the most dangerous game, even if they are mutants or altered beings ).

I think from reading the original post, the plan looks like it might be to continue to work on figuring out the best way to do it, and it may well be planned that over the long term, if a good way to do it can be settled on, an issue or two of strictly non-powerset-related content comes out while they revamp the power code to handle this, and some later issue brings us the green flame.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This also relates to how Shields is being introduced a couple issues after Dual Blades and Willpower were. DB and Shields won the polls, but as it was forewarned, it took longer to develop Shields. Instead of just introducing Dual Blades by itself, and then brought in Shields at a later time, they brought in the second place winner for defensive sets.

Power Proliferation, which was in the works for more than a year and a half, is in a way a 'filler' for additional powers. Mind you, it wasn't a copy and paste job, so while that didn't take as much time as making powers from the ground up.

As I had posted before, it would be great if work on allowing new power sets (let alone those that are being prolifereated) be costumizable to be 'turned on' when the older powers are reworked to be costumizable.

    But that's the Devs call.

Neither Mystic nor Magickal nor any other sort of enchanted Origin has the slightest impact on this game. None, zip, zero, null, void.

All the powers look exactly the same; none of the backstories you will ever write will differentiate your characters from any other.

So why all the excitement over this? If there is Story to be found here, it's only for the Devs and their characters. None of our magickal characters---because we have none.

At best, this entire scenario = new badges. Possibly a few more accolades---which, due to the hard code, have no magickal aspects whatsoever. Certainly no viable benefits. All of this has the same impact, IMO, as the entire Rikti raids we've had to endure: an annoyance on my way to the next farming mish.

    Magically delicious!

War Witch, Level Designer who's doing the Hollows Gameplay Makeover, wanted me to point out that the changes are to address spawns and that there are no significant art changes (like moving buildings, etc.) being done with the changes.

We'll have more information and details about all the features of Issue 12: Midnight Hour in forthcoming web articles.

Info from Lighthouse instead of War Witch indicates that WW's busy right now

Future EATs (if we dare go in that direction)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ummm, 'if we dare go in that direction'?

Does this mean there's a good chance of there not being anymore EATs after this?
  7. Looking at the opaque Bridal Veil on the Live Servers, I think it would be cool to be able to have the option to have either opaque or transluscent veils.

It makes for a great funeral/mourning or Goth wedding acessory.

i11 has been released! I've been looking forward to this all month! The first thing I did was build those vanguard claws that I can never correctly remember the name of!

Then... it sorta fell apart. My costume changes took 400k EACH, which would have been cut in half by the free tailor token, but someone goofed there. Understandable, and I can earn the inf back relatively quickly. However... the announcement of a free respec in addition to the respec recipes got me pretty excited, until I read Lighthouse's post that they're withholding said free respec until December 7th. Over a week away, with no explaination that I've seen!

LAME LAME LAME. I can't stress that enough... I've been waiting to respec my main for awhile now due to some pretty sorry power choices, yet now it'll cost me loads of inf or time to get one before the week is over, AND I'll have a free one sitting there unused afterward. Can we PLEASE get a good reason for this? I've not read one, and it would put my mind at ease if there was a reason for not handing out the respec now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hi Anonym,

Our apologies that you were inconvenienced by the timing of the free Tailor Tokens and Respec. With free respecs we've always given at least a good week's time for people to assess their options post release before making the respec available. That way, they can also make use of any respec they may already have (because the free ones do not stack). Also, it allows any new characters made (like the many in this issue made to play with the new power sets) the option to respec.

Hopefully you can understand our reasons for the timing on this respec.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Considering the number of characters I'd made when new power sets come out, I'm more than happy if it was standard policy that when free (power) respecs and costume tokens be given after the patch, so people can get the chance to make new characters who'd be able to use these.

After a while, the 'wowness' of powers die down a bit, and people get to find out just what powers they find suits them and there characters, that character might just be shelved until (if there is a next time) a new freespec comes out.
  9. What the heck is Black Friday? My father say's it's make or break time for American stores for the holidays (if they make good revenue on that day, it'll mean they'll be in the black for the rest of the year), but there's some funky stuff being said on one radio commercial about it being something else entirely.

    Very strange.

Btw, refering to the end cartoon.
  10. I've seen these things earlier, when I was trying to find the option that used to be available for blocking people from seeing what badges and powers I had in the Player Info. Is that part of the web options, or is it linking actual character info directly to this or other websites?

The Friends part should definitely be set by default to 'No' or Disable or whatever it'd be called. If people want to let it be shown, then they could go ahead and click 'Yes'.

For nearly $10 (including shipping) one can get a CoV or a CoH game with one month free. Is 240,000 prestige (12 slots) worth $10 to you?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ooops. If it's just one side of the game, it's only 8 slots and 160,000 prestige.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Umm....there is no more getting "one side of the game" anymore :-D

    [/ QUOTE ]

To be clear, getting the other side of the game was a one time thing. If you make a new account with just CoH you will only have CoH (or vice versa for CoV).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Would the account had to have been active at the time or would it show up as such afterwards if the account was reactivated? The account I'd set up for a cousin of mine wasn't active since the last free reactivation period, and having checked it in the Account Management, it's just showing the CoV Collector's edition and the earlier 14-day trial.
  12. It's great to have you back, Manticore

    Thank you, very much

I guess I better give you back your bow.... It looked all so nice leaning against the wall while you were gone....
  13. I guess that with a game that's more than Sci-Fi (would magically based heroes/villains considered to be from the realm of Science Fiction?), it's hard to pigeon-hole it.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
How do I get on CoH?

I have a paid CoV account, but whenever I use the CoH Updater, and choose a server, it just takes me into CoV..

    [/ QUOTE ]

If memory serves, it's already downloaded into your system (even if it isn't, it'd download automatically), and this would just activate it.

well, we'll have to see how this all plays out and for all you people whining about compensation, shut it, there was no way of knowing this would happen, sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and take a loss.

    What are you, French?

A pragmatist. Someone who knows that screaming and begging and pleading and going through denial is going to change things back.

Do you have something wrong with people from France, or people who speak the language?

  16. I know people were complaining about 'how can a development company do more than one MMO of the same genre at a time (i.e CoH/V and MUO)?', but.... *sigh*.

  17. It could be someone else is using Ex Libris' forum account to post (she might be AFK), or she's being possessed or just felt like speaking in 3rd person...
  18. Quick Reply sort of thing:
Would this affect the Respec trials?
Would this mean no more Vet Respecs?
Would this mean no more Free Respecs?
Is this going to be another scramble to look for low level and high level salvage, like the Temp Powers, or is it going to be set to low or high level salvage?

What is the velocity of an unladden swallow?
  19. I watched the Powers Video, but one thing mentioned was that Willpower was the 'most popular defensive set requested'. I thought the most popular defensive set of the poll was Shields?

I understand that Shields are the most difficult of all of the defensive sets that were in the New Power Set Poll, which is why we won't be able to get it until later, but it should be noted that Willpower is one of the most requested defensive power sets (rather than the most requested)

Bug Hunter is that a badge?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes. According to that link, it's been awarded twice, ever. One bug, I know, was found on the live servers.

So that's what the mysterious Bug Hunter badge looks like. It's so rare, it's no wonder why some people think it's the Holy Grail or something.

War Witch : Ah, my own crazy idea-land. I wrote up a list of ideas when I first came on board, having little experience in level design. I feel so confident that ONE DAY someone will realize my brilliance, that I am going to paste a snippet of suggestions for your enjoyment. (That is, when you stop laughing.)

So welcome to November 14th, 2002:

    Ex-Superhero Zone

Ex-superheroes retired/injured community. Almost everyone you talk to has seen "some" kind of action and has a story to tell -- maybe could even help players with their more lengthy quests. Plus you could do kind of an "irony" twist on some well-known superheroes -- but not, of course.

[This is more of a 'theme' than a zone. A whole zone dedicated to old geezers sitting on their front porches talking about the glory days? What do I fight?! Boredom?]

    Hollywood Zone

Everyone's got a cell phone, every car is a BMW, every street has a tourist taking pictures of particular spots that look eerily familiar (but not, of course, exact). Maybe a few NPCs walking down Rondeno Drive (as opposed to Rodeo Drive) look or dress suspiciously familiar. Plus shopkeepers could be especially rude as they look the superhero up and down (kind of like the Pretty Woman thing with Julia Roberts). Villains? Everyone could be an Agent, Lawyer, or Publicist.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I remember a rumour about having a retired hero zone (I liked the ads on some of the buildings about a retired hero community). Heh, it'd be funny to have retired Villains there too. With their banter about the 'good ol'days'

Then there could be an undercurrent of either an older villain who found a way to revitalize him/herself and/or their old team. All of the sudden villain groups start cropping up, and the retired heroes call upon the new generation to save the day....

It'd be great if there could be some 'zone events' that's non-leathal where film crews pop up in a neighbourhood in a zone with vans, cameras, props, lighting, etc. Where they pop up is random (such as in New Haven in Cap au Diable to Prometheus Park in Atlas Park to Monster Island).

Maybe it's for an upcoming movie (loosely) based on the Freedom Corps video game. Maybe it's an Arachnos propaganda film. Maybe it's a cover for something more devious....

Just because an idea might not make it as it was originally thought of, doesn't mean that it can't be used in other ways in the future
  23. All the Mods are saying,
    is give self-moderation a try.

They'll have to split themselves with moderating the Closed Beta Forums and the regular Forums. And to make sure things are ok here in the regular Forums, all they are asking is for us, the community, to keep it civil and to not just go spamming to pad the thread count.

Personally, I'd like to see that the Mods being able help the Devs with getting feedback from the Closed Beta testers, and therefore getting speedier delivery from Closed to Open testing, than to see them being distracted.
  24. Wikipedia article about Colombia:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colombia

I agree with an earlier poster about the Nazis using South America as a haven after WWII (so much area to hide in, and with the isolation at the time it was the easiest way of doing it).

The Nazis sought to find legendary artifacts, in the hopes of claiming such things were created by the Ayrians (real name of real people, but used to create something new), who they claim were the direct decendants of the Atlanteans and the direct ancestors to the Germanic people.

In the movies and comic books, these items had powers (not that the Nazis ever really did get any authentic artifacts in the first place in real life). It could very well be that when the Nazis were loosing, they took some of these artifacts with them when they went into hiding.

Maybe it was one of these items that created the alternate reality. Maybe it's the only thing that can bring it back to normal, even if it wasn't the cause in the first place.

I think that maybe whoever changed reality may have done so with good intentions. Was it the right thing to do, though?

'The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.'
  25. People, Aztecs are not, I repeat, not from South America. They are from Mexico, and Mexico is part of North America. Their captial city was located where Mexico City now stands.

Here is a pic of Aztec art:

Here's some movies of the making of a Viking special that was broadcast on NOVA in 2000 (note the ships in the Equipment movie, the dragon heads):

    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/vikings...ge.html#thumb2

And here's a Wikipedia entry on Jormungandr, the World Serpent:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%B6rmungandr

    Specifically this paragraph:
    [ QUOTE ]
According to the Prose Edda, Odin took Loki's three children, Fenrisúlfr, Hel and Jörmungandr. He tossed Jörmungandr into the great ocean that encircles Midgard. The serpent grew so big that he was able to surround the Earth and grasp his own tail, and as a result he earned the alternate name of the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent. Jörmungandr's arch enemy is the god Thor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Here's a pic from Wikipedia of a lindorm (a Norse dragon with no legs or only two legs):

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:U...skrift_871.jpg

And here's the artical on Norse Mythology from Wikipedia. Please note the connection between Norse and Germanic:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse_mythology

And yes, dragons in Norse Mythology sometimes had ears. And woodcraft was a favourite form of art among them.
