  1. Watched the trailer in slo-mo on my laptop just now and I'm still unsure who the "army" is. I thought at first when you see the invaders swooping in on the camera it'd be a hint since the one in the lead is wearing a cape but I'm pretty sure it's just Loki.

Then when you see the invaders jumping out of a craft I paused it and still couldn't tell.

And then it looks like Loki's going to be bringing his army to Earth using Bifrost/Cosmic Cube tech.

Another thing I noticed was the demonstration of Thor's invulnerability to conventional damage, which I thought was nice.

Then there was that shot of them all at once that gave us a clear idea of Hulk's scale, which put my mind at ease after they said they were going to tweak his size.

Finally, thank god for advances in CGI and the budget of this movie because the Hulk looks really good. They found the right color and texture for him.

  2. I'm thinking silicon-loving piranhas.

With a crummy story the whole thing devolved into a series of MTV-styled music videos separated by boring talky-talk.
Disagreed because at least with Sucker Punch the action was bigger and better, there were times where I felt something for the characters involved, and it at least tried to have a story. It was still a let-down, but I'd rather watch Sucker Punch than this latest Underworld.
  4. If they go overboard with anything with this franchise it's Selene jumping off a tall building.

I thought it would've been nominated if only because Tom Hardy is becoming a Hollywood darling and the Academy loves to nominate movies with respected actors when their in a movie with serious subject matter regardless of the actual quality. However, after giving a nod to The Fighter, which was a superior film all the way around, in the previous year, I can understand why they would be hesitant to nominate Warrior.
  6. Serkis should've been given Jonah Hill's spot for Supporting Actor.

To be fair at least the RE films have maintained a steady level of mediocrity. Whereas Romero's films have been in sharp decline.

That may be because I grew up watching Adam West and Christopher Reeve more then reading Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns.
Clearly the other two guys are disturbed by their friend's turn to the dark side, so what's the big deal?

I'm actually holding out some hope it'll be good. It looks like it's got a fair amount to squeeze into the story, what with three guys picking up superpowers, discovering and playing with their powers, one of them going psycho under their nose, the other two attempting to stop their friend, and the psycho one going on a rampage. The storytelling style could make for some awkward edits, but at least from the trailers we're seeing they're willing to kick up the scale as the movie progresses.

The cam may be steadier than some would assume. I read somewhere they're going to explain the presence of the camera when there's only one character in the scene by saying they're controlling it with their powers.
  11. Just got back from seeing Underworld: Awakening. Overall, I'd say if you're a fan of the franchise and you can overlook some of its innate shortcomings, you could enjoy this one. That giant werewolf from the trailers wasn't a one-battle gimmick, the final battle sequence was good and Beckinsale's Selene got some moments of badassery. However, there were some major failings with this film. First of all, Speedman's lack of involvement was painfully obvious; I haven't seen a character essentially cut out of a franchise so blatantly since James Marsden as Cyclops in X-Men 3. Secondly, the plot was pretty thin, which becomes more evident about 3/4ths of the way in when there's a major revelation about the current state of things. Finally, the secondary characters were weak; we're given a hallow father-son conflict in the current vampire ranks, a sympathetic detective given too little screentime, and maternal scientist given even less.

If you're the type whose enjoyment can be sustained by sheer werewolf maulings and Matrix-esque gunfights, it's worthwhile, but if you're looking for any degree of heart and soul behind the characters fighting this immortal war, you'll leave disappointed.

Not that I'm saying they're high class works of cinema genius, written to by writers who make shakespear stand up in his grave and appluad.

But they're fun escapism (for some) and that's all that matter.

And let's all just remember, as bad as you think RE is. As bad as you think the sequals are.

RE and it's sequals blow Mortal Kombat: Annialation out of the water!

I consider these some of the best video game to movie films, and really, I hate the games.

I'm 100% sure I will watch these in the theater. I'm 99% sure I'll enjoy it!

Yes, I'm willing to give that 1% chance, but so far the RE movie series is 4 for 4 for me!
That is what I'm saying. They clearly aren't for everyone, because quality isn't the draw in this franchise. It's Milla or the IP.

And the reason one might consider these the best video game movie adaptations is because the rest of the field is so god awful.

Sure I'd agree there are parts of the previous RE movies which are very cringe-worthy. But I've seen better movies which didn't get as many (or any) sequels so at least on some level the word mediocre doesn't apply here. No one's going to argue that a McDonald's Big Mac is the very best hamburger in the world. But the fact that millions of people have been eating them for decades has to account for something. *shrugs*
Because they were mediocre? This movie franchise is being kept afloat by foreign box office, either out of love for Mila Jovavich or the IP.
  14. I'm too starved for good werewolf movies to have not seen Underworld.

This in-between land is getting old and is nothing more than, IMO, a ploy to get guys to the show with the hope of her getting teh nekkids, but not really.
There was some hot navel action in the second one, though. Eh? Eh?

Also, she could of been way sexier with a lot more buttkickery. She just didn't do it for me in this one.
I agree about the outfit. She looked better to me in Val Helsing.

I might end up seeing this one but the trailer just had the look of a smaller budget and I worry they just threw this one out there to tap into the 3D gimmick.

That's what I said. The rest made money.
  18. I'm sure this will make money despite being mediocre like the rest.

  20. Sorry for breaking anyone's view BTW. Photobucket refused to resize it for some reason.
  21. Not an action figure but I've recently become interested in collecting statues. I got this last week:

  22. Saw this just before my trip of to Vegas last week.

I thought it was good and entertaining, but I feel MI3 was still the better film. As much as I like the actors who played Ethan Hunt's team this time around, they concentrated on their character arcs a little too much. At one point, Renner's character actually does a soap opera sigh and lean before a monologue. And there's so many little missions in this film and we have to go through their preparation phase for all of them; the overall goal is easy to forget. Once again we get Cruise's character in a fight with a villain who probably has no business engaging him in this way, but at least Phillip Seymour Hoffman was interesting and menacing in the previous installment. It's a good popcorn flick for the moments of genuine awe and danger, but MI3 is still the best of the franchise in my book for the tighter storytelling.

There's also a figure on the right-hand side. It isn't Space Jockey, though. More humanoid but the skin is gray and the eyes are black.

Although if you pause it just before that Space Jockey seat part, you'll see what looks like a deformed member of the crew attacking someone, so perhaps whatever it is they find mutates beings and the figure we see next to the seat ends up changing.
