    Good things:

-Clark from the future is nothing like Clark now. Thank God!

Good things that will more than likely be undone in the next 2-3 episodes:

-Clark letting go of the past (which as it turns out was his inner darkness – who knew!?) and embracing his future.
-Clark delves further into his relationship with Lois. Again.
-Clark begins to hover... which he probably was not aware of, therefore making it also lame.

That's about it. I'm not sure what all the ranting and raving was for, when only about 5 mins of the episode had anything cool in it. Five minutes, that I am sure, won't be relived until the last 5 mins of the series.

Bad things (or, All the filler they needed to make a full 40 minutes of TV and other cheese):

-Brainiac mind-wiping a Freak-of-the-Week that most of us have completely forgotten who she is. I know I didn't recognize her. Is there even a point to having her in the episode?
-People acting like Clark was the high school Cpt. Popular. Which he wasn't.
-New students acting like they give a **** about alumni they'd never met, let alone hero-worshiping them.
-A FIVE YEAR REUNION. In September. In an episode called Homecoming! It would have made more sense to base it around the actual homecoming game. And being season 10, does this 5 year reunion mean that Clark went through 5 years of high school?
-An uninspired Christmas Carol rip off.
-More Green Arrow drama. Admittedly, I don't know much about GA in the comics. Does he even "come out" about his secret identity. And his reliance on support from Clark seems out-of-character since he's usually criticizing Clark.
-Chloe sending a text to a couple of kids who shouldn't even be showing up on her radar.
-No one noticing that Clark just up and disappears in a crowded room like a fart in the wind. A crowd of people CELEBRATING CLARK!!! I mean, really? No one stopped to ask "WTF just happened?"
-Clark standing in a public cemetery with his Blur Jacket on. Sure, he's yet to use it in a situation we've seen, but come, dude. It's got the FRIGGIN' S-SHIELD ON IT! And why are you wearing it to your dad's grave anyway??

Well... here's the next five minutes of cool the show offers up.
I think the purpose of Brainiac taking out the villain of the week was an attempt by the writers to show that this wasn't going to be a "freak of the week" episode.

And I believe Lois commented on Clark's popularity by attributing it to winning the football championship for them in senior year.

As for Green Arrow, yes he does reveal his identify for the public. And regarding Ollie needing support from Clark, I think they're setting that up for the next episode, which is supposed to show Clark being in more of a leadership role for the League.

Finally, I think the shield is kinda hard to make out on that jacket, especially from far away, so that didn't bug me so much.
  2. It looks the most like Kyle's battery.

I bet the writing around it will end up translating into the oath.
  3. Eh, all the of images released so far have had that grainy blurred look to them. I'm hoping they'll all look better on film.
  4. So that's the big fuss over why he hasn't come back as Lex?

Or if you're talking about the people who felt it was too long. Meh, it's a saga, it's supposed to be long.

Personally, I consider the films to be the best Trilogy in history.

Now, let's hope that the Hobbit can be as good.
After reading the series, I kind of wished they had made all the Harry Potter movies 3 hours long. I know most of em are like 2 and a half hours anyway but when you watch the movies after reading the book it seems like they could have been served batter with some transitional scenes to smooth out the edges.
  7. Er yes I know who Isis is. I just don't know why they would make Lois Isis when I saw on IMDB that they would have some other actress playing Adrianna Tomaz/Isis, other than to, again, use that groan-worthy Charmed formula of "let's see who goes evil this week" and fulfill their quota of Lois in a skimpy outfit.

Also, I thought they would have had an Isis episode while Lois was still in Africa. The only good thing I can see about this so far is maybe it will lead to an appearance by Black Adam.
  8. Hard not to call this a good episode. I was kind of hoping when he said goodbye to his dad he would take off flying but at least he got to do some floating with Lois. I just wish he had told her who he was then too.

What sucks is episodes like this show us that the writers are aware of the kind of crap they pull and yet they continue to pull it. Also, next week looks like it will be a quality drop as they dip into the Charmed formula of "let's see who goes bad this week."
  9. Man seeing them dedicate a whole episode to a secondary character definitely reminds me of how Buffy and Angel would do the same. Comes down to the creative team having the "balls!" to experiment.

Also, looking forward to seeing Dean as a vamp next episode, and hopefully that's the one chalk-full of rips on Twilight.
  10. I'm glad that rules out the possibility of a 3D conversion delaying the release at all. Been dying to see the last movies since I finished up reading the series a couple months back.
  11. Okay time for a little more thorough analysis of the episode:
    • Wish they had kept Lois in Africa a bit longer to let her get into trouble on a different continent more, and because I read recently that they're going to have Isis in an episode and it would make more sense to have it take place over there
    • The actor playing Godfrey did a good job but the writers stumbled around a bit with their interpretation of Darkseid; they definitely seem to be going for that First from Buffy vibe but the fact that it didn't really fight anyone was made up for by the more deeply cutting words to the characters and there was cannon fodder for its minions to kill
    • I'm not sure they realize that the more involved role of Jor-El is one of the things that really doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and it's even more bewildering when he gets really judgey and punishes Clark in particular cruel ways; it makes me hope that the Fortress programming has been corrupted or something but then again we've already seen that
    • At least they aren't forgetting Chloe and still talk about her, even though it was a stupid way for her to leave, and they finally got around to telling her cousin what happened
    • Even though they haven't given a lot of background to what's going on with them, the Suicide Squad seems like a more interesting plot than the Darkseid thing, so I hope we get to see more of them soon
    • I also hope that we won't be given the New Gods by simply having Darkseid possess people with their names one by one
    • It was pretty weird having Supergirl show up and get all preachy with Clark about his "inner darkness" and such, and disappointing that they didn't make more progress with the flying
    • The Ollie outing was clearly straight out of Iron Man, but let's hope we get some interesting stories out of it

Overall, I'm getting pretty tired of everyone getting on Clark's case for "not being ready" or "having darkness in his heart." It's like at the beginning of the season he was all ready and raring to go, but the universe conspired to totally cockblock him from his destiny. They could have even kept it sort of canon because Superman was just jumping around instead of flying at first, but really they're just stringing people along by making him think it's the going to be the next episode where he suits up/flies.

The actor was good, though. Just a shame he wasn't wearing 3 tons of special FX make-up, and written as an Alien ambassador who's publicly criticizing the heroes for not being as open and honest as he.
It's a shame they had to turn him into the villain of the week instead of letting Godfrey continue to speak out against the heroes throughout the season. We could have seen him interact with some of the other New Gods as they came into the light.

I'm hoping we'll get to see some of the good New Gods like Scott Free, Barda, and Orion. Hell, I'm hoping we'll see some New Gods that aren't just being possessed by Darkseid or something. They could build it up to an Apokolips vs Justice League/New Gods free-for-all.
  14. At least Dean will be able to keep a close eye on Sam, but I'm worried they'll be retreading a lot of the same territory with Dean worrying that Sam will go over to the dark side or something similar. I hope they resolve that fairly quickly so we can have the Winchesters a little more united and upbeat this season.

Also, still hoping that Jo and Helen come back some how.
  15. Hmm it almost seems like they're reading from Buffy's playbook with an all-knowing ultimate evil that can possess/pose as people as the big bad of the season. Unfortunately, they borrowed Smokey from Lost to be Darkseid and are basing too much on Clark's self-doubt and fears, which he's never free from, even when he becomes Superman.

Also, I was disappointed with Lois' reaction to Kara coming out as Supergirl and her view on superheroes in general.

Probably because in Batman's case we'd be willing to watch anything to erase the memory of Batman & Robin and in Spider-Man's case we hadn't seen the origin on film before.

And one of the major complaints with Superman Returns was that it was too similar to the Donner films and we want to see something new. Superman coming to Earth as a baby from the doomed planet Krypton to be found and raised by the Kents and going to Metropolis to become a reporter for the Daily Planet and deciding to the fight for truth, justice, and the American way are things we saw in the Donner films already and really aren't necessary for us to see again, so there's no point in letting them eat up screen time.

After a movie in which folks thought there was too much of Clark Kent time or a screwed up interpretation of Superman, not to mention a whole TV series that's teased the hell out of Clark suiting up, people want to see Superman in the film early and often. Everything else can be introduced and be laid out as the movie gets rolling.

Sure, the Hulk movie kinda sucked, but you can definitely make an awesome origin story, even if "everyone knows it" or "has seen it already." And in the case of Birthright, it /is/ a unique take on it, with some /very/ cool stuff along the way.
I think the issue is that we'd rather see screen time dedicated to other things than the origin, which we already know how it plays out.

quoth the Simpsons..and it applies to most nerd rage threads about movies. And about the whole "Don't like it don't see it" Well it's pretty simple. You see X Director on the bill, "Oh That guy is famous for doing WYZ. I don't like what he did so I'm not going to see him"

Kinda like Durakken who hated STO so much he started up 3 accounts.
Like I said I don't personally know anyone who didn't like the movie but went back 3 or 4 more times. Do you? In any case, it's faulty to assume that everyone who was disappointed with the film did so.

And we aren't allowed to watch movies in the hopes they'll be good? We can't go to see a movie to see if it's better than the last one or the creative team has refined their craft because it might hurt your delicate sensibilities or use up a couple minutes from your day by reading our posts?

I don't like country music. I don't listen to it.
    I don't like rap. I don't listen to it.

I don't subject myself to something I don't like to tear it to shreds with reasons WHY I don't like it. I just won't listen to it.

And no it's not too much to ask that they better their works, but guess what, they aren't reading your posts, they aren't reading your emails, they aren't listening to your voice mail. YOU..do not exist to them except in the form of a dollar bill. THAT is what they listen to.
That's the thing, though. We can't say we don't like it if we don't experience it, because instead of listening to the stupid argument of "it's their vision" we'd be susceptible to the very valid argument of "how can you know it sucks if you didn't see it?"

And again, I don't think it's the people who didn't like the film who paid for several viewings, so I don't know who you're referring to by suggesting that we all hated it but secretly saw it 3 or 4 times in theaters.

I just am mature enough to realize that (Despite your opinion) every artist sees things differently. Micheal Bay managed to get the Transformers franchise from Hasbro, and blammo he made movies. You don't have to go see them.

Hollywood doesn't take you seriously if you go "WORST MOVIE EVAR" Then go see the ******* thing 3 more times that day.

Give a screenie of your character to many artists here on this board, You'll get many different takes on your character.

I hated how they treated Deadpool in Xmen Origins. Know what, Ryan Reynolds didn't like it either so he's fixing it, because HE CAN. He is also one of the very VERY VERY Few people in Hollywood who listens to the bleats of the fan base, a minority. Most Hollywood people don't give a **** after you pay your money to see the movie. They got theirs. Want em to listen to you in the future? Don't go. Don't pay for it. perfectly simple.

The words "Well that sucked, I'm not going to see anything from that director again" can and do work. Don't like Micheal Bay's work, don't see it. That simple. He's made enough movies for you to know what his MO is. KABOOMS, little plot. KABOOM! tiny plot.

It's like if you went to go see the Expendables expecting some touching lovey dovey romance. like come on.
This is the same sort of argument that drew fire in the Smallville thread.

You're basically saying that because we criticize something we shouldn't watch it, as if the "artist" has every right in the world to make a crappy film but we don't have the right to see it and point out the flaws.

I personally don't know of anyone who didn't like the film and paid to see it more than once, and that one time is everyone's way of giving the creative team a chance to build on what's come before and make a good movie, the same way it always is. We have every right to see a movie no matter who directed it or how many movies in the franchise came out before in the hopes that they'll do a better job, no matter if the previous films were excellent or crappy.

It's not too much to ask for these professional creators to always be looking for ways of making their work better. There are plenty of films and projects that one would categorize as inherently inferior because of the subject matter, yet there are folks out there like the ones at Pixar who aren't satisfied with just churning out a movie in the hopes of selling toys and they manage to create movies that appeal to kids and adults and work on multiple levels.

Is Michael Bay your uncle or something?

I just don't know how else you would justify the argument of, "It's his vision so nyah!"
  22. Yeah. **** everyone for believing they could have a good story to go along with the explosions.
  23. How will Michael Bay make every scene take place during sunset in space?
  24. It's pretty ridiculous that DC hasn't put out more high quality superhero films, considering how many good stories and writers they have to draw from. I really hope that Green Lantern will show them just how easy it can be so they get off their ***** and start pumping out the kind of films that we've been wanting to see.
