  1. Alright, it's been fixed, I didn't find ANYTHING wrong with it, but republishing seemed to fix it o.@

Thanks to the person who notified me!

    -C.A.
  2. I hereby endorse this arc o.ob
  3. Your last av made me have to eat five Breakfrees to even touch it, despite the helpers you provided. You MAY want to loosen it down a bit, it's a SHARP spike in difficulty compared to the rest of the arc, i had to die to get out and get inspirations. Otherwise, very trippy and cool

    Left feedback ^_^

  7. The best I can gather from the advice of Venture, mainly, is that a term called mary sueism (if thats not the term, please help! ^^)

From what I've figured so far, it means that using your own, your friends or more obscurly, anyone's avatar/player in your arc, as either a contact or a npc (friend or foe) is a tactic of writting known as Mary sue. I had a couple of arcs that I had venture review (I had no idea who he was at the time! O_O in retrospect it's kinda like asking robert ebert to look at your student film :P) and he was unhappy at alot of usage of my characters, most if not all was in the negative light. He started the review revolution, and Positron even believes him to be doing a good job. Based on both of those and other supporting facts, including that no one really dislikes venture or expresses his stances are incorrect, lead me to believe that he very well might be our sliderule in the community on whats right and wrong in a MA.

If I recall correctly testing an arc, a non published arc, is fine to use whatever, but a published arc is fair game, and in good taste, only certain things should be followed if it's submitted for public consumption? I'm a bit hazy right now on the details i've been up too long...

I started out the arc I've been working on as a birthday present for my husband. One of the allies you find is his main. Now I have been told that makes me wrong and inappropriate. Spiffy!

I was as surprised as you were :/ I really wished they'd given us guidelines prior to this...

  9. Oooooh o.o That changes things..Thanks! @_@
  10. [ QUOTE ]

If in the course of a story you are to fight another costumed super-hero of the B-class that player heroes are, and instead of just making one up I use one of mine, then it is not in any way inappropriate. If I put in one of my toons as an AV/EB, then it's a form of Mary Sue.

The fact is, if I put a super-hero named Candlefrost in an arc, the player has no clue if that is a character of mine or one I made up for the arc. They're going to assume whatever they want to assume.

While I enjoy reading Venture's reviews, Venture's opinions are not all the best to follow...unless your main concern is your arc pleasing Venture.

    [/ QUOTE ]

An interesting point. Pleasing venture shouldn't be what your out to do, but staying within his guidelines should be?

  11. I'm trapped at work and can't get into a global channel right now, can anyone answer this quick like?

If I unpublish an arc, do I lose progress on badges that it worked on? stars and people running through my arcs?

    Thanks!

    Try This Forum

It has a great many ways to advertise your mission, including a thread where people agree to play each other's missions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

See I like that, you remind me that not everyone's a jerk on the forums :P

Most of the time someone misposts and that one critter comes out and says essentially, in polite terms 'you are dumb, use search'. or that other one wanders out and makes a rather sarcastic post about things that may confuse the OP even more :P

    Bravo! ^_^

  13. I'm begining to wonder myself if this isn't what the dev's intended.

They haven't addressed us, in one way or another. That I have seen anyway. They are worried about farming at the moment and balancing teh MA system. I honestly don't think it's high on their radar, if at ALL.

This rating's system is another way for them to keep us busy. Bickering. Ranking. Greifing. Farming. Banding together to attack the one star squads. Banding together to attack the five star squads. All of this promote interacting with others and forming your own gang of likewised angry people and moving towards your own agenda :P Now despite what anyone may believe, I feel this is a wonderful idea, in design only.

Keeping your user base busy and bickering is a old trick, but it works. You keep them distracted, and the few that realize they are being duped into arguing over things, will not be heard in the commotion thats being shouted.

The longer you keep your userbase busy, the longer you have to make more content and work on bugs. You run a calculated risk at losing "x" number of players, but based on "y" number of players and reactivations number wise you will even out more then likely. It refreshes your stale old players and sends them off shouting "I'll never be bacl" then they go play WoW eventually (they ALL do :P) and come back, either admitting it was awful or claiming they missed the game. The same game they'd never be back to :P

Of course this is just my 2 cents on why things are the way they are

I've so far published one and am working on a couple other arcs that happen to involve some of my characters. I don't think this is a bad thing in and of itself. I don't include my characters because they're my characters. I include my characters because I think they either have, or can contribute to, a story worth telling. I don't consider that vanity any more than I consider it vanity for any other author to write a story about characters he created.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If I write an arc in which the player interacts with a super-hero, whether as a contact, an ally, or an enemy, then yes I'll use on of my own. I like it when other people do the same. The idea that you might just see someone flying around Paragon that you interacted with in the MA is a cool one.

Playing a story about your toons, though (and by "your" I do not mean the person I quoted, it's a generic "your") doesn't interest me. I don't know your toon, don't care about your toon, and no matter how cool his origin may be it's not anything I really want to hear.

If you're going to tell a story about your character, you have to not let the player know that is what the story is about, so the story has to be able to be adapted to anyone.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not entirely sure how anyone makes a good story thats an origin story in this medium. No matter how much lipstick you put on it it seems to boil down to "Go back and live my story! It's kewl!"

Now, I originally thought that putting your own characters into a story was a decent idea until Venture came and told me otherwise. He cleared up a few things I had apparently been misunderstanding. It didn't matter how I used them, be it an origin story, a moment in the story where you bump into them and they help you, they are OOC put in as a helper against a tough enemy group or av, it's not appropriate. It's called mary sue, and idiot ball, if I recall. I knew neither of these prior to writing my arcs, but thanks to words and somewhat blunt demands, I began to understand what was wrong with using customer critters that are either mine or the supergroup I'm with. It's simply wrong and not appropriate.

I even started making one for one of my characters, but morphed it into something else entirely, so working with a existing issue where you are putting your characters in isn't too bad either ^_^

I'd keep stars, but add a simple 'Recommend for Hall of Fame' checkbox. You get 1000 HoF recommends and it becomes and stays HoF.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Easy to exploit, epsically by those with multiple accounts and large wings of SG's. You get one cult of personailty (and we have many, don't kid yourself :P) and each one instantly has a HOF for no good reason o.o

I like the way your thinking though...

Bridges would just bring back payfarming and doorsitting.

When you remove AE buildings, you just force the same number of people into fewer spaces....creating even more lag and chat in those places.

Maybe, maybe if they changed the entire AE to be like stuidio B.....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now there's an idea. Easy to explain "No Blades, No Bows..expensive equiptment..."

Course how do you explain it RP wise if someone can surpress our powers, why hasn't that fallen into bad hands? And if it has, why hans't it been used? If it has been made, then showing it off like this is a bad idea tactically then your enemy can work on countering it.

However, I like the idea OOC. No need for buffs prior, no need to summoon pets, ect...

I endorses this idea. But leave the atlas park and starter zones AE where they are :P

    o.ob I am a hero. I endorese this idea!

    -C.A.
  17. Wait, didn't Venture say somewhere we shouldn't use nemesis? I can't recall..

So..do we have a consolidated list yet? o.o If we do maybe they should post it in the help thread so people know what to use and not to use, I think that could save alot of trouble and anger from new ma arc makers...

    SG Rename?

I think it's a coding issue that is difficult, it may have a ripple effect since ease SG is a number in the system.

I also think it's a good device to make people chose their sg name carefully, as well as who they sg WITH. There should be a consequence for making poor decisions. (granted that may not be the only reason, there are circumstnaces that aren't entirely the user at fault )

I think a CSR once told me to keep asking for it. That was like in issue 8, so I figure for whatever reason it's a bottleneck for sg's and users from growing too fast. :P

RWZ could rationalize it as AE providing Vanguard a holo-training service.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Exactly! That makes sense! But what doesn't make sense is that IT'S ALL THE WAY THE HELL OUT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLE FIELD.

So... Maybe we could move inside the compound, maybe?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Too close to sellers and difficulty sliders. In order to keep your players from just rinsing and repeating too harshly you want to keep most AE facilities away from a location to easily sell, turn the diff up or down, or tailor.

I agree the RWZ is..just so wrong for it, but it's there for a reason, the devs either threw a DART, it's there for RP purposes later, or it's the only place they decided was easy to make Co-Op.

Nothing's set in stone either, remember we LOST the Croatoa building cuz too many people said it broke immersion (in a zone that has a twenty story pumpkin and a loch ness monster :P)

    Just my thoughts,

    AP needs a...

The reason AP prolly doens't have one is to keep your user base interested. You give them everything in enough zones and they'll get rather stale, since it's a rinse of another zone. Keeping the user DETERMINED to get to steel canyon via a sg portal or a long tedious run or a tp from a friend, promotes inter-dependance on others, like a MMO should have a bit of (not exclusive, solo is needed as well )

I vote no on the tailor, and the inevitable shouting for a difficulty slider NPC RIGHT in the AE building as well. :P

    An interesting thought however.

    -C.A.
  23. It's there as a slow down process. I say keep it the way it is. The main reasoning I see in the end being the way it is now is to keep your user base slowed down, you keep them busy, you have longer to make more content and work on bug fixes. You run a calculated risk of losing some from frustration, but those numbers are generally acceptable. RoI. <shrugs>
