Personally, I go to look at what other people have done and to see what ideas they've had. (I'm fond of textures so that's a particular interest.) That's my incentive; inspiration.
I suspect most people go for the cash though.
The themed idea is a very nice touch. Certainly means more effort goes into them than 'turn up with the usual cossie'.
Try and get it in 50 MotD maybe? Also in broadcast; not a huge fan of that it can be old spam fast but might be very useful for this. It would be great to see newer players benefiting from the inf. I remember winning a few mil fairly soon after I started; peanuts to most people but a LOT to me at the time.
Thanks for keeping this sort of thing alive. -
Yes I do but it's all hand-inputted it's nothing fancy.
Just one sheet with different tabs.
Cash - chars that have a billion, chars that are collecting money (working to a billion) and chars that have bids/sales on the market and the date they were last checked
Set IOs in base - self explanatory, colour-coded for redside/blueside. I don't trace orange/yellow salvage specifics but they're all in one VG.
Merits - actually tracks which alpha is slotted or working towards, reward merits, AE tickets, alignment merits, recipies on hand waiting for crafting, accolades and whether they've done the weekly SF
TFC - which chars have done which SF/TF, midnighter arc, vanguard arc, costume, aura and cape if I remember those bits
Yes I am job hunting and have a lot of time on my hands.
It does mean that if I'm outfitting a char I know I have stuff on an alt that I need to craft and how much of a prospective build I can pull out of the bins and if I need to use merits/tickets which alt to hit first. -
You're going to have to work hard to top this for April Fool's Day.

Hope to be there but ... I suck at timezones.

One of my other bases
Theme here is a country residence.
Cursor is the portal.
North is medbay with an insp collector. West is the empowerment stations (I'm doing a wet-room and gym thing).
South are the teleporters (and the raid porter which needs to go into a folley but I need to work up to making that). The porters are actually quite easy to see in the room but not top down because they're under the trees. The moat room holds hazard zones.
The room to the right of the forest is purely decorative. It's a maze. :hides:
East of the portal room is vault/crafting station (kitchen) and salvage/generic IO storage. The fliers north of that is just a holding area while I make a landing strip.
Further east are set IOs (dining room) and north of that a decorative library which used to house porters. I should redo it to get the cash back but I really don't have the heart.
Even further east is the bar (energy) and the theatre (control) which again very bad contains the Oro crystal away from the entrance.
This is a much younger base not quite at full plot size but again the KISS principle is at work (keep it simple stupid).
Thank you for your kind words about the other base.
EDIT:
I will say that I don't PvP and never base raided (nor will I if it comes back) but I have a few forcefields and stuff because I like the items. That maze is going to have a big guy whose name escapes me in it eventually. -
I would be very loathe to leave any salvage/IOs in a shared base to be honest.
This is a quick and dirty picture of one of my bases.
The cursor is the portal.
To the left are porters. Off the porters are empowerment (south) and medbay (north).
Directly south of the portal is a workstation/vault.
Everything else is either my use, less used or purely decorate. Left hand side is the Base Raid with four decorative rooms.
To the right of the portal is rack/enhancement storage with an additional couple of worktables (bar, restaurant, garden, zen garden, monster). Then the garden/power/control. I admit I was a tad naughty because the Oro crystal is off large garden but frankly I doubt a coalition would be that bothered. The theme is a National Trust type place.
Hope that gives you some idea of what I consider 'good base design'. Easy for everyone to use; coalitions, team mates without a tour.
I might edit in the blue base in a bit. -
I am always amazed at people who keep stuff on email. If I email cash/recipies, I either have my other account logged in to pull it off the mail instantly or log in the target character instantly.
I only keep wakies for lowbies on there longer than that. I'm sure I've lost a good half dozen of them over the past few weeks when it seems like the emails were rolled. Shrug. You're more lucky than me I suppose.
EDIT:
Oh and if your stuff hasn't sold after a month I'd say you listed it to high and it isn't going anywhere. Pull it off and relist lower. If you have to delete something cheap then so be it. Unless you can find someone who will 'hold' something for you for a few minutes. I'd do that but I don't think you're on any of the servers I play; I don't recognize your handle. -
Solo SG. Especially given your recent post about requiring storage for IOs. No way in hades would I put 20 apoc in a shared base.
My SGs/VGs have the entrance next to TPs and a crafting station/vault. That's so my coalition partners don't have to meander around the base if they are using it.
From there I tend to have medical next to TPs (only SG members can use that and it's me) and IO/racks/crafting table a bit further away from the entrance so I can use them in peace without being bothered if a Coaly comes trundling through.
Anything else comes under decorative to me (energy/control/true decorative rooms) and is further away from the porters. I tend to have themes so my kitchen in the country house base is near the dining room. For my straight salvage base I have orange salvage in one room and yellow in another with a few Insps collectors that I'm slowly getting rid of.
I don't like the corridors - I don't PvP so the only time I use them is to assist when moving rooms around.
I do remember being in one base and the instructions from the leader was "type /stuck twice then ...." Um. Yeah I wouldn't be using that base. -
I did a password reset on 7 March. It came from the email address I listed above.
-
I've had support emails from support@ncsoft.com (7 March during recent Master Account debacle).
However last year I lost about six months worth because as my email provider said:
Quote:They said that NC would get bouncebacks but obviously at that point they don't have a way to contact me.Originally Posted by Capa's email providerit looks as though their mail system doesn't support sender verify for
some reason. Essentially our mail server will check that the sending
address is valid (in real time) before accepting the mail.
If you have the ability to contact your email provider I suggest you do so in case it's the same issue I had. Mine put some of NC's IP addys on a 'clear list'. -
You need workshops for enhancement tables, salvage racks and inspiration collectors.
Larger medical rooms will let you put in an inspiration collector too but that's just as an aside.
Although you can get nine items in both the 2x2 and the 3x4 room, I tend to use the larger room if I have funds because it means the room is less cramped.
The overall limit is 18 items and remember the vault (if you have one) takes one slot. -
I used floor lamps. Like this.
EDIT
I also did a small railing with the bankers lamps but I don't have an upto date photo of the base. I must do that. I'm on Guardian if you want to have a nose around. -
It reminds me of one of the maps from GR beta - tech warehouse with a shed load of monitors. Both too bright, both lagged badly.

Quote:Actually Forbin that was a typo on my part. It should have read "without".No that's just as delusional as saying that a character without inherent fitness is sub-par. Neither is true.
I've corrected it now.
Anyone saying a char is sub-par without inherent is wrong. They can be just as good as those with. -
Great thing for a company to do. The amount itself is astonishingly generous.
I hope it encourages other companies to do the same. -
Of my 19 or 20 50s I've probably respec'd 1/3. Of my other characters (two accounts, five servers) I've done probably none of them. Ones which were made close to or just after the announcement of Inherent fitness didn't take the pool so had it automatically.
When I've respec'd for inherent fitness I have not just taken a one IO wonder pool. I've picked up powers which I wanted and that were useful. I've reworked the whole build to be able to effectively slot after those changes. If I'm going to respec I'm going to get the best out of the effort it takes to do it.
Respecing is a nuisance; it's planning, it's time, it's cost of IOs and the process itself is not fun. Am I missing a power, did I misplace a slot, did I get all the IOs I wanted out because I can't see them without placing them (I accidentally sold a Karma KB because my screen was full of generic IOs on one char), am I going to get a zone event on my head as I'm respecing (redside respecs are both outdoors).
It can take me a few respecs to remove expensive IOs I want to reuse before I even start the new build. I think this was a minimum of four 'fake respecs' on my stalker, tank and VEAT before even starting the new build.
If anyone is seriously suggesting that a character without inherent fitness is sub-par then please please don't team with me because you are clearly delusional. Inherent fitness isn't going to stop you getting whacked on Apex. If that is the make or break of a team then that team has a whole new set of issues to deal with than inherent fitness.
Alternatively please send me a few months sub for both of my accounts and money for my time it costs me to plan and do the respecs, plus the influence it costs to do the builds the way I do them (an almost ground-up re-work) and we'll talk.
I'll still say "get knotted" but hey I'm meeting you half way. -

Quote:How about you calm down, have a think about courtesy and then post?I'm fairly sure I play CoX from my house and last time i looked I was living in the EU, therefore there must follow EU laws if there want to operated in the EU.
So please get your fact right before u come up with a load of rubbish.
The servers are located in Texas. Which I believe is in the USA. The company is also a USA company. Your account, your contract is with a US company. So they follow the laws in that country.
Least that's how it works when I did my degree in law.
And the EU isn't a race. -
For me I need a combination of things to start/stay interested in an alt:
- good concept (EG I have a scrapper whose ambition was to move to the Rogue Isles because she hated the people she had to save - character made 30th July 2008 long long before GR)
- good costume (same scrapper almost deleted due to previous costume involving red fishnets)
- name I like
- enjoyable to play (sometimes that may been I have be 'in the mood' for that char but never log on and think "ugh")
I have moved a few chars that meet some of the criteria but not all. Not 'quite' delete-worthy but nothing I really like to play. EG a bots/ff MM which I like the background story of, the costume, the name but bores me rigid after 15 minutes. Same with a thug/traps MM; just ... sloooooow. My thug/dark MM however LOVE THAT CHAR!
Generally if it makes it to 20 then it is likely to hit 50 at some point. Having said that, the last thing I deleted was a 38 stone/stone brute because I think tank would be better. Some I remake, some I don't.
I have a nasty habit of using some parked chars either as marketeers or salvage holders so deleting them is more aggro than it's worth. For example, I have one char full of wings/boots and another couple with memorized recipies. In fact that thug/trapper moved from red to blue, moved servers and is now my crafter for my (hopefully enjoyable) alts there.
Because I will usually bring 'whatever the team needs', I also keep a couple of alts that I will play but only if requested. My FF controller is one. I saw a Wartroller concept, was intrigued and so made a Mind/FF troller. She can solo but not quickly (I've been too lazy to set IO her) but while I prefer to play something else if someone wants a bubbler but not my sonic, then she is around. Same with my kins. I only play them under protest but if there's a stoner then I'll break her out if the team is people I know.
The only alts I cheerfully deleted were from Praet. I just don't like it there and I remade them red/blue. -
Inf to prestige matching to improve the awful ratio:

I keep seven or eight bins of set IOs (plus three with generic IOs) and it is a much for effective way than keeping salvage. Yes the tables are 95k compared to 15k for racks but that's a lot more bang for you money. I just keep enough salvage now to make a crafting/set IO'ing session a little less painful.
The 20k bung from the first 15 members is nice. But get those lowbies played and it makes a nice income. No inf penalty from being in SG mode before level 25. Or stick a 50 in there and TF like crazy. I used to work on about 20k per ITF.
As for med bay - that can be a pain. But porters, just grab a coalition and you're done.
EDIT:
I just saw this:

Quote:Last I checked America wasn't in the EU and therefore doesn't have to follow their Directives.I would also like to point out that the EU have an EU anti discrimination law (Council Directive 2000/43/EC of 29 June 2000 implementing the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective of racial or ethnic origin : also called the "Race Directive)
Therefore my question is as we (ie EU players) are been discrimination on are racial origin, does that mean NCsoft will be in contradiction with EU law??
All that is required here is for someone at NC to recognize that racking off their player base - irrespective of their location - is a bad idea.
To the US players saying 'so what', let me ask you one question. The situation is reversed. The global you've had for years - and are known on the forum by - is changed. That ok by you? -
Another aggreement here in how unfair this is to Eu players. Vet status should absolutely be taken into account.
This from a UK player who plays in the US servers.
This does seem to be another badly considered idea. Like the recent 'security measures' and the launcher update which locked out South Americans.
Come on - what happened? I used to be such a fan of how this game treated it's player base but recently it seems to have gone downhill. The guys I've spoken to in support have always been lovely but these hamfisted ideas are originating from people who don't seem to care whether they keep their players. -
Wow Cerulean_Shadow I'm just astonished at that.
I don't know what server that was but I've never seen anything like that. Everyone should understand lag happens on the ITF at the best of times.
Hope it doesn't drive you away becuause people like that are in a small minority.
EDIT:
I find global channels quite good. I would say that if you found that person through a global a 'quiet word' with the Mod of the channel might be in order. If nothing else they might just keep an eye out for similar complaints about that player and dump them out of the channel if they get a few. -
Not sure if this will help you but: before level 25 your influence doesn't take a hit compared to prestige earnt. So if you're looking to build a SG, you could run lots of lowbies? Not sure if that would be more effective than a 50 in SG mode.
