I personally find it funny that there is only one arc where you seem to be in it for yourself rather than the arachnos, and that's Dean MacArthur's arc.
If we had more chains like THAT one, people would probably feel better. Similarly had more chains where you didn't fight Arachnos, Longbow and CoT. Legacy Chain, Wyrven, some Hero Corp stuff... these would all be welcome additions to the villian missions. Maybe some missions where you infiltrate Preatoria and help out the resistance blow stuff up to create mayhem that the Arachnos to take over.
As to reviving redside? Honestly, part of it has been said previously. But one thing would be to make a few TF's with either ambiguous or pure villianous goals in mind that are open to both sides.
Also the removal of the required mayhem missions for contacts. Mayhems are nice once in a while, but sometimes you don't want to have to blow up 12 cars, fight off 100 PPD and a hero, just to talk to some dink who's begging for money.
Oh, and removing the hidden contacts from being hidden.
And this is just personal but, I don't feel that Arachnos should be such an all pervading force as representatives of the entirety of villiandom (as they are potrayed now). Maybe as basic arbitrators within the Isles, but having them be as obscenely overused as they are now is just annoying. 1/4th of my contacts should not be directly connected to one single organization for the villians. I should be able to be more of a free contractor to work with Council, Column, Malta, Knives, Carnies, Mooks, Family, Sky Raiders (there's a crew that you DEFINITELY should work for, not against as a villian)... heck maybe even hellions and Skulls at really low levels. Maybe throw in a few of the "morality" choices during these arcs where you have an opposing group that you're about to attack and mop the floor with offer you more Inf or whatever to join them.
And I suppose that's one thing that could help out with the villany. Show us SOME benefit of pulling off successful heists or making that million dollar paycheck. People try to say that we're in it for ourselves, but how can we do that if we don't receive anything. I understand that it's a balance issue if you make it like a monetary thing (you get 3 trillion inf for managing to wipe out an arachnos op or whatever) but little things would be nice (maybe have a "banker" call you every so often and explain exactly how your money is doing until he just steals your money and flees or whatever).

Just out of the blue from a person who has little experience with Kheldians:
Why not make it so that Cosmic Balance is actually a balancing act? When you're solo it gives a base buff to everything (not HUGE but enough to notice), but as you team it provides the buffs it currently does at the current rate, while dropping the opposite by a slightly smaller amount.
So you join a team with a tank, your damage jumps but you're now squishier than you were. -
Quote:Wonder if they'd ever do a crey corporate war, where the countess was nearly ousted by an evil underling and the board of directors, and the heroes have to fight next to PP's to help her out.I have to agree with the Countess Crey one. I actually felt bad for her at the end, and could see what she'd been trying to do. She'd genuinely believed she was trying to save the world... and got lost along the way.
I admit that part of my fondness for that arc is how so, so many people use Crey Corp science experiments as the go-to for Science origins. Crey sometimes seems to be the greatest single supplier of superheroes in Paragon City. Part of me wonders if that wasn't their intention all along. "They'll hate me for it, but if that's what it takes to save the world... I can live with that." -
You know, given history (namely that BAB was going to be the KR trainer, until they added Galaxy City) I'd have expected that if they were going to kill anyone they'd kill Blue Steel. Only to have him come back in some sort of ultimate culmination storyline where he literally blows a hole in the ground and rips apart 100 clockwork like a hot knife through butter.

Let's put it this way, there's a wall
Stalker phases through the wall
Scrapper quickly jumps over it in 2 bounds
Brute charges through the wall
Blaster blows the wall up, and walks through the debris
Dominator grabs something near by and uses it to carry himself over (like a jet-board or whatever)
Mastermind has his minions carry him over
Defender beats the wall, heals themselves, beats it more, then politely asks the brute (who's spitting out brick from his teeth) to knock over the wall, and gives him a boostie to make it go faster.
Controller disassembles the wall with his mind, walks through, and reassembles it
Tanker slowly climbs over the wall, ending by falling off the top, then he punches a random hellion who got to close
Soldiers of Arachnos "borrow" an arachnos flyier to get around the wall
Corruptors blow up the wall, then apologize for their action
Donno about kheldians. They'd probably laugh, then fly over it, burrow under it, and phase through it, just to see the looks on bystanders faces. -
I can't believe I forgot this but
The whole Countess Crey arc. Where end up going (the first time) "Wait... She's? Wha? Who? WTF IS GOING ON!?" in relation to the whole situation. -
Seer Marino is one of the better arcs.
I always liked Reverent Hero Project. I don't remember to many arcs overall simply because I've been in and out of the game so much, but learning the back story of the PP's always sends a small shiver down my spine.
Also, I always liked the light hearted sense of fun that you found in playing the Aeon arc. "What? WE'RE LIVE!?" -
... I get the feeling resistance members should be screaming "FOR KHORNE!" in this thread.

*thinks back* didn't they also make motions towards the fact that Leia might be more powerful than Luke?

Quote:Thing is that Han in particular didn't have any experiance in LARGE scale operations. At least directing them. Small Scale I could believe, but orchestrating an entire war fleet? Gimme a break.Han Solo: Well, look at you! A General, huh?
Lando Calrissian: Someone must have told them all about my little maneuver at the battle of Taanab.
Han Solo: Well, don't look at me, pal. I just said you were a fair pilot. I didn't know they were looking for somebody to *lead* this crazy attack.
That must have been some maneuver, that must have been some battle.
Also, didn't Lando lead the fighter wing in ROTJ? As for Solo, I think his resume includes a stint at the academy. Perhaps he got some training, then some practical experience during the war. -
Quote:The biggest thing about the that particular trilogy to me is that the kids are perfectly ok in terms of adjustment to their lives and they love their parents. But Leia and Han have been absent so much due to state stuff and the odd "save the world" debacle, that the kids would probably barely see said parents.I always thought it was lame that Leia wouldn't do much with the force, but it worked okay for the first Zahn books. After that, though, it would have been better for her to do more. Would have made sense after encountering another dark Jedi.
It was the Corellian trilogy, I'm remembering that now. But it was mentioned that Leia defeated him by skill. I remember the line going something like "it would only happen once in a thousand encounters, but it had happened." I remembered the line for its lameness, for one reason or another. *sighs* And then I'm able to forget names far too easily: memory is such an odd thing for me.
The whole debate on the nature of the Dark Side (is it a ying-yang, or a cancer) is the whole Manichean vs. Boethian nature of evil debate. Probably isn't going to be answered easily, given it's been debated for centuries. Heh.
In terms of games though, nothing can beat Lawrence Hollands Xwing and Tie Fighter games.
Also, I know that technically Han and Lando were generals at the end of Jedi, but who thinks that they know how to command a fleet of ships in a strategic war? (see=courtship of Princess Leia) -
Quote:Weren't those both by the same guy?And some of the really bad stuff, like The Crystal Star and Darksaber.
Oh, there was also Truce at Bakura, where all of the characters became christian and helped out the Empire against an alien race (including an appearance by Anakin Skywalker to Leia to beg for her forgiveness).
Also, weren't crystal star and dark saber by the same guy? Or am I mixing that up with other tripe? -
Quote:There were a few very specific instances where the opponent wasn't Remanent, but they usually weren't very good in terms of the actual story (Correllian trilogy and Black Fleet Trilogy). Black fleet introduced a lot of new ideas that instantly got scrapped and just flat out confused me. Correllian trilogy was a simple superweapon of the week series. And here I thought I was the only one who liked that book. A lot of people seem to hate Corran Horn as a Mary Sue. Yeah, Rogue Squadron Jedi is probably a bit over-the-top, but I still don't really mind him.
This is an important one... For years leading up to the NJO, it seemed like every. Single. Book. was "Oh no! Renegade Imperial warlord Admiral [name here] is threatening galactic stability!" There was also a very good chance they had the superweapon of the day. Ysanne Isard, Warlord Zsinj, Admiral Daala, Admiral Thrawn, Moff Disra... Frankly, by the time NJO came out, I was ready to accept just about any other threat. Not to say that some of those weren't awesome, but by that point, it had been done to death.
As to Canon vs non canon, I think it should be left to the reader/fan. Stomping your foot and yelling that Lucas is god isn't going to get you anywhere. Lucas is a good producer (kinda) but he sucks at directing.
One thing that's always been interesting about the land of Star Wars is that there is 0 technological movement for 10k plus years. Back in the days of Ulic Qel-Droma they were still running around with blasters, war droids, and star killing superweapons. And the REALLY interesting thing is that TOR that is upcoming has the aesthetic of the Clone Wars stupidly enough. -

Quote:Well it was particularly funny how even in the NJO it was many different versions of the same story. One minute the Vong were unstoppable badasses as if they'd been created by Frank Miller, the next they die like everyone else. Overall the entire idea behind NJO was just stupid. There are aspects of the expanded universe i really wish were delt more in the offical canon though. One thing in particular i always liked in EU was the idea that force adepts had specialties. Like where one force weilder might be more of a fighter, another might be more of a healer, another more of a philosopher etc.
My main dislike of the EU really came though when they started the new jedi order stuff. I think it was a mistake to try and make all these different authors write basicly one story arc. Atleast with the old publishers though one book might have sucked, there was a fresh story coming out in 4 more months. When they combined it all, now if you didnt like the story you were screwed. -
I just loved the changing character traits between novels in Star Wars. One book Luke is trying to avoid killing ANYTHING and in another he's slaughtering his way through his opponents.

Here's an interesting one I found.

I donno, Jason is currently a drama professor at UCSB (I think) having recently gotten his phd in Westerns and Shakespeare. And Schrier is... in NY somewhere. I'm sure No Pink Spandex has a check in with him from the Morphicon a few years ago about what he's doing now.

A power rangers season done with the same simple yet sophisticated storytelling as the 90's batman would be friggin sweet.
And half the reason the acting was so bad early on was because the actors were martial artists. Except Bulk and Skull who are just awesome (seriously, go watch their con panels on youtube. Jason Narvy runs off on a tangent about Shakespeare between talking about how he got his job by being a jerk, and Paul Schrier talks about having to take a break from working on hello kitty to work on the Forever Red episode) -
I think you could make the first one fairly easily, although to warn you it won't be exact. I know the head is EASILY doable with the current costume system (or at least it used to be) not so sure about the others.
And for the weapon you'll have to compromise for a rapier methinks -

Actually, the ESRB may end up stepping in and removing some of their little bonuses from the forums and worst/best case scenario is that the ESRB could pull the rating or bump it to M (either way it'd probably be a death knell for their system)
