My advice to the plan Z folks would be - don't be this guy:

Quote:You tried to inquire about the purchase of the game through an in-game ticket?I didn't claim to have investors. I brought the games shutdown to my CEO's attention. We discussed it. With permission I tried to establish channels of negotiation with NCSoft. Their representative refused to talk. I have the correspondence. I used the odd channel of an in-game ticket to do it. A bit unorthodox, but still legitimate. I could have tried other channels, but the response was quite unusual and I read the situation as unfriendly to further contact. The summary of my inquiry was to ask for a more proper channel and what the communication was about. If there was a path for further negotiation available then the response would have been to direct me to the correct, specific contact. They could not even do that. NC Soft had placed a wall against any communication about the game, it's closing, or any future purchase options.
And because you didn't get anywhere, you concluded that there was no way to proceed?
Honestly, stuff like this is why none of you gets taken seriously, you're so completely lacking in even the most basic business acumen. -

Quote:That can't be right - I don't remember EQ ever having 400 servers. I don't think they even reached 40.But a few points about everquest; It reached 225,000 players not long after opening, and reached about 425,000 by 2003, which then is said to peaked more than 3000 players per server with nearly 400 servers, which equates to a little more than 1 million players,

There's another. -
Quote:Even if they started on September 1, they're probably nowhere near ready to make a crowdfunding pitch yet.If this is true, and I hope it is, there is a lot to be gained (especially if crowd-funding is part of the process) by announcing it soon, while everyone is still paying attention. That said, there are hurdles even to crowd source, so I could imagine them being tangled in some kickstarter red tape.
Assuming it's anything more substantial than an smartphone app.
Anyway, based on the history of the biggest Kickstarters, time isn't a barrier. In fact a little nostalgia might actually help their fundraising... -

Just had to drop back in and point out that once again, Captain-Electric is the champion of complete irrelevance.
You want to know what's more negative than NCSoft?
Try using "San Francisco Giants" in that moronic site.
(And you think *other* people are sheep?) -
Quote:Woohoo! I'm number 2! I try harder!Dear NCSoft Apologist #1 [Brillig is #2, btw]:
Hi there. Excuse my breaking into your pro-NC soliloquy, but you ain't seen nothing yet. People are just now getting ramped up; some of us are waiting to see if your besties at NC actually pull the plug on 11/30.
If they do - and they almost certainly will - what has went before will seem as nothing compared to the firestorm of sheer and utter hatred which will be unleashed upon their guilty little heads. Facebook. Twitter. Social media of all kinds. Its a gen-u-ine PR Nightmare, part 2. aND IF ITS all so very useless, 'scuse the caps, why do you even care. We're bound to fail, right?
You cannot stop it. Your opinion will mean nothing. Sorry, darlin'. You cannot save them.
Oh, we DO have the power to affect their bottom line. Believe it. This isn't like a negative review on Angie's List or something: this is people all over the world, united in outrage and making sure everyone knows who not to do business with.
When you do something bad, when you hurt people, word tends to get around. True for each one of us. True for corporations. Just ask Bank of America and Netflix, 'kay?
Have a nice day.
Enjoy your delusion. BofA and Netflix have tens of millions of accounts. The sheer number of people involved made for a great deal of noise.
Your 'firestorm' is going to come from a handful of individuals, all of whom are going to look like stereotypical Internet rage-nerds when the world finds out that you're protesting the closure of a video game. Go ahead and explain to the man-on-the-street how this was a 'bad' thing that 'hurt people.' I'll enjoy watching that.
It's a good thing you have no compunction about looking like a fool. Sounds like you'll be getting a good deal of practice. -
Gratuitously ignoring the fact that the lack of lifeboats is due to the cheapskate passengers...

I see this is still going.
I wondered if anyone was actually going to take a business-focused view of NCSoft's actions...
Here's one.
Revenue for the past two years for CoH has been slowly declining, aside from a brief bump when Freedom launched.
Now why did NCSoft invest Paragon resources in doing Freedom? Was it to make less money? Was it to make the same amount of money? If it were either of those, wouldn't they have just kept putting out content instead?
Now why would a company make a significant change like implementing a F2P model? Would you say a company that makes a move like that is a) satisfied with the revenue of their product or b) dissatisfied with the revenue of their product?
Considering the risk involved, I'd say a radical move like a shift to F2P is an indication that NCSoft was dissatisfied with the revenue from CoH. And make no mistake, changing your revenue model like that is a major business risk - they could have killed the game right there.
So, add it up.
NCSoft unhappy with the revenue from CoH.
NCSoft invests considerable effort to implement Freedom.
CoH revenue does not improve.
Given that, it's a constant mystery to me how the people at Paragon could possibly have thought that things were going well. They may not have thought it was code red, but there's no way to realistically paint this as "going well."
Whether this game, or Paragon, was profitable or not is debatable.
Whether this game was meeting expectations is not. -
Considering how Save CoH is in bed with the illegal reverse engineering effort, I can't imagine why NCSoft would refuse to talk to them... Gee. Total puzzler.
Does this "journalist" actually do any reporting or is it all copy-paste from Save CoH?
I think to call yourself a member of the press, you actually have to do at least a little work on your own. -
Quote:He's a journalist first? I'd really hate to know what he's second at, because he's a crap journalist. He's an excellent yellow journalist though. With regards to downplaying downix's article because he's a player on the titan network forums, he's consistantly posted over there that he's a journalist first, and this time it happens he was approved to write an article about this game.
Yes, he does have some bias (obviously), but to insinuate he's outright lying, making things up is just as incorrect. He's stated that the contacts he's had chose to be anonymous, they were not studios but actual investment firms, with real offers to make. He chose to honor his contacts so they'd continue to trust him and be useful in future articles - he does write articles on subjects not pertaining to this.
Could he be making everything up? Cetainly, but the details he's gone though in describing journalism, the finance industry, and politics places weight on the side that he's telling the truth. Perhaps he was being a bit liberal with a few choice pieces. Like the RG forgery thing. No it wasn't a forgery in the classic "someone penned his name for him", but what did go down showed NCSoft to be in the wrong and at the very least used his name in an incorrect manner. I remember reading the old PDF where RG himself said it was a forgery - this being probably a liberal use of the word himself, but the description "stuck" and it's how many people recall the incident. So trying to fault downix for using it in the same manner is rather nitpicky in the least.
Exhibit A: http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/10...biden-vs-ryan/
Here's a clear sample of our 'journalist' in action:
Quote:What will happen tonight is simple: you will have Ryan, a greedy little worm of a man who would rather throw grandma out onto the street than to see David Koch actually pay taxes to support the system which makes his lifestyle possible, standing up against Biden, one of the hardest-working, most loyal, and yes, adorably gaffe-prone men in Washington.
Said 'article' then goes on and on about Biden's personal tragedies while conveniently ignoring Ryan's.
This is not journalism, it's just an attack piece. In fact, if you go to the master page, http://www.addictinginfo.org/author/downix/ , the tagline says "One says what he means and means what he says, the other is a lying sociopath and a devotee of Ayn Rand."
Now I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure calling Ryan a sociopath is making things up.
Let's not demean the whole profession of journalism by calling a left-wing Limbaugh a journalist. -
Quote:We are probably talking about the same studio. And if you did a little research on them, you'd conclude that it was not a serious offer.I can say that one of the studios was told, "Yes, we are happy to open negotiations regarding the matter..." (and by the Director of Corporate Communications, at that) and was then stonewalled - no responses to phone calls, emails, clarification of whether other closed negotiations were taking place - anything. The rest of the details are not mine to give, but I can say that much.

Having heard from the 'small studio' that made an offer, I rather suspect that none of the offers made were credible.
If they were, they could step up and say who they are.
None of this is even faintly believable. It's right up there with the $80 million Trion offer. (Hey, for all we know, that might be one of the two this idiot is 'reporting.') -
Apparently the new motto for the community is:
"We are heroes. We don't give a sh*t if it's illegal." -
Or maybe what "utter bullcrap" consists of is looking at the revenue numbers for the past two years, realizing there should have been two major positive events, and thinking that the game was doing well.
