  1. I've been playing CoX for a few months on and off now and I have to say it's definitely my favourite MMO, however like any MMO I can rarely stand playing it for more than a month or two at a time before needing to take a break.

Anyway, although I've loved playing the game thus far I felt like I've missed out a lot in it since I've always had the rotten luck of joining a SG that starts out good but always ended up dying a few weeks later after all it's key members mysteriously vanish, never to be heard from again. This has greatly discouraged me from playing practically all of the lvl 50 content since I always felt like I never had anyone to play with (Sad isn't it?). To the main point however, with the introduction of all the new incarnate stuff I'm now resolved to do all the 50 content with my next toon when he reaches 50 and basically I would really appreciate it if someone could recommend me a good, well-established, active SG that won't kick a member for taking a few months break every now and then (On a side note I'm also interested in starting a bit of RP).

The character I'll be playing on mostly is called "Spectral Shootist" and my global is @Brightwel, thanks in advance to any who respond!
  2. These sort of things have already been suggested many, many times and there's a few problems with your suggestions.

    1. We already have slow but powerful melee weapons, battle axe and broadsword.

    2. Both those sets already do practically, if not everything you describe, they have large single-target attacks, cones and a pbaoe, what you are essentially asking for is the devs to make a whole new set that is exactly the same as existing ones except you hold the weapon with two hands. Maybe ask for alternative animations where two hands are used, but not a whole set.

    3. Build Up is the normal name for the short 'super buff' power you are talking about, not Focus Chi (which is the martial arts version I believe), and 300%? That is a very large increase in dmg. An awfully large increase in dmg, even for a build up like power.

    4. People on the forums generally like it if you put more thought into power set suggestions, so like an actual layout of what the set would look like with possible names for powers, what they do, what order they come in, etc etc. not just 'I think we should have this because it would be cool', but seeing as how it looks like your new to the forums, I'm sure they will let you off, it is nice to see you can actually type English at least.

I'd love some real weapon auras (and wings too!) In the mean time, you can sort of approximate weapon auras by using fist combat only auras. It's not perfect, but it works. For example, when my BS/SR draws the Rularuu sword, his hand is sheathed in a dark fire from the pommel.
Hand auras can sort of work for small weapons like claws and pistols, but they aren't that effective and with bigger things like swords for example, you really want the blade to have an aura not the hilt.

    Weapon Auras

Ever since the release of Shield Customisation I've always wondered how great it would be if we could get weapons with similar effects. Now I don't know what we be easier, adding actual auras to pre-existing models or just making new ones with elemental (or more glowie, whatever) themes, I presume the latter, and I realise that you do get such things in fire, ice melee etc.

I think however it would make it much easier to make a weapon set toon that isn't natural/technology. For example, you could make a character that has a magic sword that actually looks magical since it would be glowing! Even tech/natural origins could benefit, I don't just have a sword, I have a sword wreathed in crackling energy! Obviously I am not suggesting that the weapons gain any new kinds of damage or anything, these ideas are purely cosmetic but I think they would greatly improve the appeal of weapon sets nonetheless.

    DP/Dark

I'm currently rolling a DP/Dark corruptor and I'm looking for some build advice. I realise there will be numerous threads already about this, but of the ones I've seen they all only deal with purple IO builds, since I don't want to spend that amount of time and inf getting purples, could someone please suggest a build with slightly easier to get sets?

Just so you know I play solo about 70% of the time, I will normally team when offered.

    Looping Music

While playing through some of the Praetorian arcs I noticed that some of the missions have some pretty good epic and very fitting music playing in the background when or just after the mission starts. What I find really disappointing though is this music seems to only play once and then stops. Given how amazing some of the Praetorian missions are I think they are more than worthy to have their soundtracks loop or maybe even 'shuffle' (for those iPod users out there) for the duration of the mission, or until you get to a point where you have to make a moral choice or something.

Of course what would would also be great was if some of the old Paragon and Rogue Isles map and mission music was updated to something a bit more powerful, specifically that annoying 'There's-some-kind-of-mystery-in-the-office' music, I'm not sure if any of you will know what I mean by that, by I'll put it out anyway.
  8. If you don't mind posting that alternative IO build then please do. Also, I notice that you didn't take Shockwave, what do you think of it? Only I've heard quite mixed thoughts about it, some say its useless while others say its brilliant dmg mitigation when used correctly, and can't really decide whether to go with it or not.
  9. With the release of i19 and the new power animations that came with it, I was finally able to bring myself to roll a sonic toon, something I've wanted to do for some time but simply couldn't because of the stupid animations and sounds.

Anyway, I've decided to take energy as my secondary which is another set I've never played. Though I have played a blaster once, I've never played these sets so I was wondering if anybody could offer some good advice on which powers I should and shouldn't take, possibly what io sets to slot etc. I mostly play solo but will normally join a team if the opportunity presents itself and I also don't plan on playing long enough to bother trying to get purples, so please don't suggest anything that involves them. Thanks in advance to any kind soul who replies.
  10. First of all, I realise that there is already threads dealing with the issue of silencing sounds or replacing them, however I have yet to find a solution to my particular problem. I understand how to silence or even change a sound by renaming a .ogg file and putting it in the right folder, the problem I have is that for some reason (which I think is due to me having Windows 7) is that there is no sound or even data file in my CoX directory even though it was installed to the default location.

Apparently I could just make a sound folder myself, which would be fine if I wanted to silence sounds as I could make a silent file for that easily, however I want to replace certain sounds with pre-existing ones (specifically some of the Sonic Attack sounds with, say, Energy Blast). Because I cannot locate the sound files for energy blast, or any other sound for that matter, I cannot do this.

So, what I am asking is if somebody could provide me with a (understandable) method of allowing me to find the sound files so I can copy and rename them. Any attempt to help will be much appreciated.

Definitely yes. Ever since unlocking trench coats have I longed to have a higher collar option, looks that much cooler and mysterious.

Non-leather trench coats would be very nice as well considering how many kinds of trench coat you can get.
  12. Well aren't I the silly one.
  13. A suggestion for all the badge hunters out there. Basically what I would like to see is the ability to view your own badges like you view other player's, all on one page neatly organised and without the descriptions. I think this would be nice for serious badge hunters who could view their collection easily and help fill them with pride and I suppose it would also help players find specific badges for verification or title purposes.

I realise this is hardly high priority or necessary in any way but I think it would make for a nice little addition.

    Demon/Poison

What is poison like? Im trying to decide between a demon/poison and demon/force field, Ive played MM before but never any of those sets though reading through the numbers on poison makes it sound really quite deadly.

I like surveillance. It makes me and my team deal a bit more damage against the boss I've targeted. Let's face it, the minions and LTs didn't need debuffed to begin with.
Sorry, I only recently joined CoX and this is my highest lvl toon and I still know little about many of the mechanics since being a blaster my primary concern is just dealing as much dmg as possible before being killed.

That makes the whole power sound completely useless if its only single target.
  17. I see, so once again the Assault Rifle has shown that it has every conceivable battle application stuffed into it; a machine gun, shotgun, sniper rifle, flamethrower, frag and sleep grenade launcher, rocket launcher, beanbag gun and freeze ray, am I missing anything?

Surveillance sounds quite good but it depends on just how resistible it is, like how often would a boss resist it?
  18. Hi Ive just recently got a hero into the 40s and Ive decided to take munitions as an EPP but I want to know some things about it first.

The first - Body Armor; in the description it says it gives resistance to smashing and lethal but in the detailed information it says all damage, so which is it?

The second - for Cryo Freeze Ray/Sleep Grenade/LRM Rocket what does your character pull out? Is it the same weapon for them all or do they all use separate models?

Lastly some advice on what powers are worth taking and how useful they are would be greatly appreciated.

I like the sound of that and it made me think of something similar: have the option to have occasional raids on your base by your rival enemy group. Fail to defend your base and the whole SG gets a penalty like no prestige gain for a while or maybe even have base items be destroyed, a system where you could decide how sever the penalty and the strength and size of your attackers would be good. However reducing the size of the penalty would also reduce the size of the bonus you would get for defending your base or something like that.

Aside from giving base defences a reason to exist again I also think it would simply be quite fun as well.

Personally I couldn't really care less about the farmers, if the rest of the community who actually want to play the game how its supposed to be played like the idea then that's what matters.

In regards to AVs (as well as Giant Monsters) and PvP I think that it may be best if whatever bonus you received did not apply for them or else you would probably see TFs, Raids etc. become significantly easier.
  21. Im worried by the possibility that your actually serious about all that.
  22. OK so while I was reading about some of the official SGs I noticed something that I think would be a good feature for our own: Preferred Enemy Groups.

Basically the idea is this. Once a SG has met a certain requirement (this could be a minimum member size and/or base size or something like that) they can register who there preferred enemy group is (for a prestige cost or maybe just for free).

Doing this will grant a few benefits: the first is that all members of that SG gain some kind of bonus against the preferred enemy group that could take the form of a dmg or prestige bonus etc., it could also unlock a few unique base items that are linked to the enemy group that could also grant some sort of bonus or just be for decoration.

I think a system like this would allow for greater themed SGs and it may also encourage people to develop their SG more. So what do you think? And what form do you think the bonuses should take?

    Time Control

As such, Illusion is indeed a Control Set, and why MasterMinds were considered Villain Controllers.

BTW your Time Window power is a summons. Pets are Summons. You might be surprised how many powers in the game are actually Summons or have a Summons incorporated in the power (ie; Twilight Grasp, Oil Slick Arrow, Howling Twilight, etc.). From your description of the Power; it would be a Summons, summoning Time Window; which would then have its effects. Maybe a combo of Fear & % Chance of Mag whatever disorient on Summons to show the possible effects of such a power on the MOB.

And looking at it again a little closer; I would have to agree that the Aging powers are more Debuff than Control, but that is acceptable as other Controller Primaries have strictly Debuff powers also.
Thank you Ninus for giving me an exact definition of a controller as well as that of a summon. By that definition the set does indeed have little control and I think that an intangible or confuse power suggested by CapnGeist and Sterling respectively would suit the set the most. For an intangible the Time Warp power I like the sound of, for a confuse something similar to Sterling's suggestion: Temporal Vision, You can project an image of the past or the future onto the eyes of an enemy. This is a highly disturbing and confusing experience and the affected enemy will not be able to tell the difference between past, present or future and will attack friend and foe alike in panic.
  24. I do hope MM pet customization that involves more than just recolouring does come at some point. Power Customization was built because everyone was tired of having their powers look identical, it's even worse for Masterminds. I always get the feeling when I see an evil mastermind that they aren't actually that smart and have had to buy from henchenhams, the only store in the Rouge Isles that deals in minions.

    Time Control

I still disagree that Distort Age can not be counted as a control. The purpose of a control is to reduce the damage a mob can do to players, normally this works by stopping them attacking at all but not always as shown with Illusion which does this by redirecting attacks away from players, Ice-based power sets are also regarded as having control primarily because they reduce the number of attacks an enemy can make, thus reducing the damage it can do.

In essence all Imob, Hold, Sleep, Disorient, Fear etc. do is reduce the damage an enemey can do, they just have different ways of going about it. Distort Age is simply a very direct way of reducing a enemies damage, not by making them unable to attack or be distracted but by reducing the effectiveness of their attacks to the point where they are not much of a threat, I must also stress that Distort Age does NOT reduce an enemies resistance or defence, it does not make them any easier to kill. If it did then yes I would count it as a support power.

Moving on, I also don't quite agree that Time Window is that much like Spectral Terror. Spectral Terror is a pet that has a single target fear and a PBAoE fear, Time Window is just a AoE Fear but I think it would be fine to change it from a fear to say a disorient maybe?
