Looping Music
I wouldn't mind this. Who does not like imagining theme music while they are saving/destroying the world? However, I also know many people will play their own music in the background, even muting the in-game music and/or sound fx. If this was implemented, it would have to be an option.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.
I really wish the game had actual Dynamic Music. Not just 'walk in the door and it plays once, or loops in one spot of the map'.
Praetoria has some great examples. Certain mission points will trigger music, most of which is utterly epic.
But I'd take that one step further. Dynamic Ambient Music is a music that is on all the time, and yet changes with situation. It was one of the coolest features in a game on a 'gamestation' console which featured giant, shape changing robots before they were murdered in a recent movie series (thank you picky forum rule >_< )
Each level had ambient music. The baseline was just the zone music. You were wandering around, doing your thing. S'cool.
-Level 1. You spot an enemy patrol of grunts. They havent seen you yet. The music cranks up a tiny bit, adding a little bit of tension and alerting you that they are there.
-Level 2. The patrol spots you and attacks. Their only grunts, though, so it's just the standard combat music. It's rather more dynamic than the base music though.
-Level 3. Either another patrol joins the fight, or a squad of tougher troops suddenly shows up. Now things are getting a little dicey and the music is all the more hectic.
-Level 4. Aaand the Heavy Unit just showed up, along with a Commando squad. Now the music goes into full on rock fest, and you know your in deep when they break out the awesome guitar solo.
Ambient Music is a really great way to add atmosphere to things, and, hey, we have the option to turn it down or even turn it off. No one loses, right?
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

If the game had decent, ambient, dynamic music, I'd be more inclined to listen to the in-game stuff.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

While playing through some of the Praetorian arcs I noticed that some of the missions have some pretty good epic and very fitting music playing in the background when or just after the mission starts. What I find really disappointing though is this music seems to only play once and then stops. Given how amazing some of the Praetorian missions are I think they are more than worthy to have their soundtracks loop or maybe even 'shuffle' (for those iPod users out there) for the duration of the mission, or until you get to a point where you have to make a moral choice or something.
Of course what would would also be great was if some of the old Paragon and Rogue Isles map and mission music was updated to something a bit more powerful, specifically that annoying 'There's-some-kind-of-mystery-in-the-office' music, I'm not sure if any of you will know what I mean by that, by I'll put it out anyway. |
The who of the what now? Damn, you're making me sorry I disabled all music in the game. However, I don't plan to re-enable it, because music as a general thing sucks in this game. We have a selection of uninteresting tunes that play once when you swap zones and that's about it. If we had actual interesting music that played at the appropriate times, then maybe I wouldn't feel the need to mute it to listen to Britney Spears or Iron Maiden or the Bellamy Brothers, instead.

That said, It would be nice if it changed or ramped up from time to time as was described above (BEFORE I essentially repeated what he said, only not as well)

I can't be bothered to think of something amazingly wise or witty to show how much of a genius I am, just take my word for it.
