What's with this mentality that somehow people think they should not put in any sort of effort to unlock the Incarnate abilities? Do you also complain about how you can't slot PvP IOs on your character because you don't PvP or about how you can't slot Purple IOs on your character because you don't farm or grind tips?
If not, then why are you complaining that you can't get Incarnates because you don't want to do TFs and you don't want to grind missions?
You like something. You want something. That thing has a cost. This cost gives meaning and definition to that thing you want so much, cause if it didn't then you wouldn't want it so much. That's the basis of a game driven on rewards and accomplishments. You do something, you get rewarded for it.
Is that concept really that hard to understand? -
Quote:No, see, by the logic system known as The Fritzian Logic, that mean that the person that got the higher number of shards is the unworthy one. Not you.I did an LGTF tonight and one of my SGmates got 11 shards... I got 2! *cries* OMG I must be the unworthy one!! NOOOOOOOOOO
You're skilled, and the Random Number Generator is being unfair as it is rewarding the unskilled players, and not you, the clearly skilled and worthy player.
Didn't you take that Fritzian Logic 101 class in college? Shame on you! -
Quote:That was awesome. xDI am guilty of this. I am so guilty that I must turn over every one of my incarnate shards that I have now and in the future to Fritzy.
Please give me your global and I will email all of my shards and components as soon as pobbisil..
you can even have my Rikti merits for the Grai matter.
One day I hope that you will find it in your heart to forgive me for not being worthy.
I will now go punish myself in some cruel and unusual manner <I'll eat a cheese burger> in an attempt to let you know that you are my superior in every way.
I am not worthy. -
Quote:Do you see the bonuses Kinetic Melee offers? Can you deduct why such a recipe would be expensive to begin with? It's almost always been like that due to the sheer power of this particular set.Whats the go the go with market prices? I went to go buy a set of kinetic combat yesturday 140mill for the recepie! Almost as much as a purple... Its very disheartening, I wish tjere were a way to reset the market? Stupid ae sruffed everything.
Reset the market?! Reset it to what, exactly?! Market is run purely by players. I don't get what you mean by 'reset'.
Yes. AE did have an affect on it. But so did the new Inherent Fitness effects and Incarnates. Many people are currently re-adjusting their builds, and so demand is high. -
Quote:What do you think makes someone a skilled or even competent player in the realm of PvE? Grinding through a 50-mission story arc? Solo'ing an AV? Making billion of infamy in the market? Being a good roleplayer? Have a lot of IOs?Being able to complete the incarnate arc does not make some one a skilled or even competent player.
I'm sickened by how so many people so liberally throw around the word "skilled" and "deserving" player as if there is some absolute definition on who is "l33t" and who is not, and how they should or shouldn't be awarded by the game.
Do you guys listen to yourself talk? xD -
Fritzy, the only point you're making is one of these two:
a. You're making a point about how you're an incredibly self-absorbed individual who believe that some abstract notion of superiority in a video game should not be awarded to players who are "not worthy" or "undeserving", which only raises the question...are you implying you're somehow worth "more" than other players, and that you are entitled to just rewards because of it, whereas other players are not based on some ridiculous mindset that you have to makes you superior to others?
or,
b. You're a happy troll!!!
Even if you do have any actual complaint about the game mechanics, the tone of your original post is so ridiculous that I doubt anyone would bother looking past the condescending statements regarding player worth. -
Oh dear gawd, this brightened up my day. XD
I wonder if Fritzy's just trolling or he's actually serious about the whole "worthy players" crap. If he's being serious then...I honestly don't know what to say.
If he's trolling...then good job! Fritzy, You gave everyone a good laugh, and we thank you for it!
Edit: Original post screenshot'd cause I'm pretty sure this won't be here on Monday! -
Quote:I disagree. But that's just my play style speaking. I believe "active defense" is practically more effective than "passive defense". Rise of the Phoenix is more than effective for when things go wrong, as it not only brings you back up, but it also wipes the floor of any left over enemies that may be harassing your team mates.I know that in general rez powers are seen as bad for Tankers, since if you die in the first place, you've done a bad job of tanking.
It also has an epic animation! xD -
Quote:That depends though. I think all nine powers in Fiery Aura to be very essential to your job as a Fire Tanker (even more so if you're a Scrapper or Brute)....with the idea that Fire had 9 powers, but only 4 (Healing Flames, Fire Shield, Blazing Aura, and Plasma Shield, just in case you were wondering which four) of them were essential to the job of tanking...
Blazing Aura helps attract foes to you. Temperature Protection offers you more protection. Fiery Embrace and Burn both help you defeat more foes, and in turn, dead foes can't harm your team mates! And finally, Rise of the Phoenix also helps you in your "tanking" as it allows you to come back for a second round when your teammates are falling apart so you can take some heat of them.
I don't see how any of those powers are NOT essential to "tanking". Unless maybe you think "tanking" is strictly limited to standing in one place and acting as a bullet sponge?! -
Personally I think Flight, Teleport, and Ninja Run would be viable travel powers for a natural secret agent type.
Flight could be used as rocket boots or boosters or something that'd allow him to fly for short distances. After all, James Bond -was- (note the past tense!) all about crazy gadgets!
Same Teleport. In a world filled with super heroes where teleportation is pretty much common household technology, maybe he has a nifty teleportation device like that of the Malta operatives.
Ninja Run would also work, as I usually pretend it's just freerunning. -
What happened to the OP?! He's not responding!!!
-
Quote:Sadly, since Daniel Craig movies, he's turned into a fist-fighting thug. Which makes me sad. He doesn't even use gadgets anymore. Argh! I hate the new Bond.Bond wasn't real big on martial arts as a rule, he had all the toys instead and that little pea shooter Walther PPK. I seem to recall he spent a good bit of time getting his butt kicked when he'd get into a fight with one of the major baddies... Jaws comes to mind. Bond pounded on him for a while and Jaws just looked at him, then grabbed him and cold cocked him.
Bond was definitely a brains character rather than a brawn one. Of course he WAS easily distracted by the girl
As to the OP...
The difference between damage due to resistance debuff values on Defender versus Corruptor are easily closed thanks to the Scourge ability of the Corruptor. So don't worry too much about that.
Personally though, if concept is your highest priority, I'd aim for Dual Pistols/Devices Blaster. But it's a horrible combination in terms of damage output in the early-game.
Otherwise I'd suggest Dual Pistols/Traps Corruptor because I find them to be more useful in general than Defenders.
You could also go with Assault Rifle. The Vanguard rifle makes a really nice-looking high tech sniper. -
Quote:A Soft-capped Invulnerability can be -mean-. And why is it good? Because soft-capping an Invulnerability Brute/Tank/Scrapper is quite easy relatively speaking.Looking at it in Mids, it seems pretty easy to get around 30% defense to all but Psionic with out sets, but all the resists except smashing/lethal are just bad.
At least, on a brute. It looks a lot tougher on a tank (which is expected) but it doesn't seem like the brute version would be very durable. Is there some thing I'm missing?
Imagine having Soft-cap defenses along with capped Smashing/Lethal resistance (which makes up a good majority of all attacks in game) and having moderate resistance to everything else. If you do your soft-capping right, you wouldn't even have to worry a lot about the Psionic hole.
To top it all off...you get a heal and a +HP.
What else do you want?! -
Quote:I guess that's pretty much the solid reasoning that I was after. I'm currently a student in Game Design and Software Engineering. And, for obvious reasons, developing games and coming up with new ideas to implement them is something I'm actually passionate about. It's just this particular topic never quite latched into my head. Finally, that scenario you described (arriving home late tired from work and wanting to relax for a bit) is only typical for -your- kind of player.
...snipped to preserve space...
Guess that's another reason why people hope gesture interfaces and other new forms of interaction do well with games.
I guess I'm too deeply involved in my -own- definition of a video game (as a hobby that I enjoy to relax with) rather than the seemingly more popular definition of it (something people do for -fun-), if that makes any sense. And use, the fact that gestures do enhance immersion definitely helps with the fun.
Thanks! -
Quote:Thinking your job is to die a lot is different than dying a lot because of doing your job.I die a lot when I play support ATs. Which is why I don't play them much. I play everything like a Scrapper on speed. In fact, I die a lot no matter what I'm playing.
If I'm not dying, then I'm not trying.
I die a lot too. But I have a bit of a "kamikaze" play style in me. I focus on maximum damage, and try to destroy things before they destroy me! After all, if it's dead, it can't hurt, right? Unless we're talking about zombies, but that's another discussion.
Almost 90% of the times I die in this game, I am doing something that I -know- will get me killed. Like throwing out all my damage just to buy the team some time so they can regroup and hence getting all the aggro. That's different than being an idiot Empathy "healer" who has only one offensive move and then complains a lot cause he/she dies a lot cause it's what support does. -
There is an issue I have with the recent fascination that has been booming through out the media about motion detection in gaming. It's really cool and everything...but personally, I don't get the incentive behind it.
Most of us either go to college, or work during the day. We come home, tired and exhausted, and we wanna play a video game.
Normally, this would involve sitting on a couch, or on a computer chair, picking up a controller or your mouse/keyboard and just pressing buttons at your fingertips to get entertainment value from what you see on the screen and what you hear from the speakers.
With motion detection, that activity turns into a physical exercise. And arguably, it's not really "healthy" physical exercise. So it turns into more physical exhaustion and strain, and eventually make the play sessions shorter and more physically exhausting.
I think the OP's post is really cool. And I really do respect them for taking time in making the video and putting thought into this. But this is just something I had to toss forward because it's always been at the back of my head everytime someone mentions Wii, Microsoft Kinect, or PS Move.
So my question is, what would be the incentive behind such a technology other than the obvious cool factor? And this is a genuine question. I'm not being sarcastic/rhetorical. -
Quote:If you think your job as a support AT is to die a lot, then you shouldn't be playing Support ATs at all.Mmm..
Nice concept but pragmatically pointless.
If playing a support AT, it is your job to die a lot so all can see how ubber the mob the Melee is gonna defeat is; think of it as the "Red Shirt" syndrome in the old Star Trek. A bit of dark humor there...
Support ATs are possibly the most powerful ATs that actually requires skill and knowledge on how to do things instead of sitting in one place and mashing your buttons in the order that your uber awesome attack chain dictates.
Just because -you- die a lot when you play a Support AT, doesn't mean everyone else does, or that it's the job of Support ATs to die a lot. -
Quote:Pretty much. And I'm not bashing the OP or anything. I know the thread wasn't serious, and I don't take it as such. It just wasn't really funny at all. xDThey aren't event relatively bad stereotypes...
Sure, over zealous hammy characters are annoying but you know who is the most popular character in the new batman cartoon? The large ham Aquaman. OUTRAGEOUS.
Sure, stupidly moody introspective characters are annoying, but who had the greatest super hero movie of all time made? Batman.
So the OP pretty much said both extremes of super hammy and super moody characters are out.
Same with "lets go RP in the base and not play the game", I mean if thats fun that's fun. He even had the SG members agree with the leader so I don't see who that's annoying?
You know who I find annoying. Farmers.
But my post was more or less directed at people who keep wailing on Pocket D cause it's "uncreative" and "unoriginal" and "stereotypical" and lots of other things. What else would you expect? It's not like it's some sort of academic convention of professional writers...
Now let's go farm some of them Rikti Monkies! Yee haw! -

For the Coalition, it got affected by the addition of colors. I never got why. But I'm not -only- talking about Coalition. I'm talking about all channels, from global to actual game channels. Most of us know that "green" means Team, blue means "Supergroup" and yellow means "Tell". We don't need a tag screaming at us "HEY! THIS IS A TELL!". And if we do, a simple optional toggle would help resolve it.
-
-
Problem:
You guys know what I'm talking about.
[Channel Name] Captain Awesome: Hi guys!
[Broadcast] Captain Fail: lvl 2 scrapper looking for team
[Coalition] Me!: Hey everyone!
[Coalition] ((Awesome Coalition) Captain Awesome) Captain Awesome: Hi, Me!
[Team] Stabby McKnife: inc
[Supergroup] Random Dude: Rawr
[Local] Catgirl: Meow
[Coalition] ((That Other Coalition) Captain Fail) Captain Fail: Hi, Me!
[Coalition] ((That Other Coalition) Captain Fail's Friend) Captain Fail's Friend: Who's Me!?
[Broadcast] Some Dude: team lfm
Yes. That.
Solution:
Can we please remove the clutter in the chat box by putting a little button next to the emote menu that toggles the chat channel tag? When off, the tags would be hidden, when on, the tags would be displayed for clarity.
As it stands most of the tags are made redundant by the chat channel colors. The chat channel colors are made redundant by the chat channel tags. One of them needs to go. And if clarity is needed at some rare time, or someone just likes the tags or is colorblind, or whatever, a toggle would make it a quick option for them to enable it permanently or temporarily.
Also, while we're at it, could we please eliminate the redundant repetition of character name in the Coalition channel?! Please? Pretty please with sugar on top? It's just awful!
Benefits:
This would clear up a lot of space in the already-tiny chat box. Especially for people who are in channel with really long names, and especially the Coalition channel, and would make the chat a more streamlined and pleasant experience over all, instead of a cluttered mess. -
Quote:And this is my perspective:...
OK, over stating it a bit, but realistically I just never notice drastic big hitting dangers as anything encounter breaking or worrisome under the current system - no matter what AT or powerset I'm on.
Why -shouldn't- we notice a drastic big hitting danger as anything encounter breaking or worrisome? You -should- be worried about dropping straight into the ground on the tiniest poke from massive beasts and arch enemies in the game such as Hamidon and Lord Recluse. That's what separates Lord Recluse from Generic Villain #2333997, and it separates Generic Villain #2333997 from Supe'd Up Purpled-Out Villain #276.
Why should a level 1 villain be able to stare at Lord Recluse or Hamidon and be like "Haha! You suck!" and get shot, and be like "HAHA! YOU CAN'T KILL ME!" and get shot -again- and only -then- die? Lord Recluse should toss him to the moon with a poke!
