Quote:Yes. And?People can choose what types of clothes they wear - but they can't choose how tall or short they are, or what color their eyes are, or what shape their nose is, or what size their breasts are, or how broad their shoulders are, or what texture their skin is, and so on.
Both those categories define a person's appearance and image as a whole. If you're a big-breasted woman and decide to show off your cleavage at every turn with the clothing you wear, it gives off a different image than if you were a big-breasted woman and decide to wear enough clothing to look like a nun. Both examples are stereotypes.
No one is calling anyone here slutty. People aren't saying "Big Breasts = Slutty". People are saying "Slutty => Revealing, skimpy clothing; long, glamorous hair; exotic skin tone; long legs, narrow waist; big breasts; and probably clothing that highlights the curves of body". Do note the distinction between an equal sign (=) and a unidirectional implication sign (=>).
It's called stereotyping and generalizing, something that is used frequently in fiction to make characters easily recognizable and make them stand out.
See what you've done, GreatRock? It's all your fault! -

Quote:But why should the models in game be a realistic representation of humans in the real world?! Seriously, can somebody explain this to me?!Now as to the reason so many people seem to be focusing on a side issue of your post instead of what you consider the main focus.
The problem was that you need to reread your own initial post from the view of an outsider and read only the words that are there not the thoughts that inspired them. It's not an easy thing to do because most people automatically fill in the blanks in their own writing. That is why any good author gets an editor. What may seem blatantly obvious to the person who wrote something is often not even slightly obvious to a reader. So although your intent may have been obvious to you it basically came across as "I hate big boobies because I have small boobies and nobody in the world has big boobies like that." with some extra stuff tagged on as an afterthought.
You're a young girl still in school. Of course the majority of girls you know have small (or at least smaller) boobs. That's like somebody from Japan complaining that the boobs are unrealistic because none of the women they know are even as large as the smallest setting. Environment alters perceptions of normality.
I myself just ran through a list of my female friends and about 25 percent of them would match up with mid range to high range on the slider. Then again I'm an adult with fully matured friends.
And you basically distracted everybody from your own initial suggestions and arguments yourself by focusing not on the alterations you want but rather on arguing with anybody who said that large boobs were fairly common.
Why aren't people complaining "Most people in the real world can't shoot fire from their eyes. Why should my character be able to?! That's unrealistic!"
It's not a question of whether or not large breasts are common in Real Life. It's a question of whether or not large breasts are common in most comic books which feature iconic female characters who look like super models. It's about fun, happy times and pretending to be awesome, not trying to match reality. -
Quote:You'd be surprised how little things may require different mechanics. On top of my head, I can guess that the costume designers in CoH don't use separate models for males and females on most pieces. They simply scale them differently based on various attributes. That's why if you make any character, and reduce their shoulder size, you'll see that their shoulder pads decrease in size slightly. It's part of the mechanics.Yes, yes. I want ponies and unicorns and whatever. Oh, wait. I don't want a completely different mechanic, I just wanted more buff looking armor.
Quote:Thats all, guys. I just wanted more buff looking armor. And, as a side note, I mentioned, that the breast scales seem catered toward the positive end of the spectrum. Ok, I mentioned my side note first, but who cares? I apologize for asking a question, which was, by the way, "Why is there not a way to make more buff or realistic female proportions?" and not "I want smaller boob sizes cause mine are too small."
I asked a question, and I was not satisfied with the answers people gave me. This is because they didn't answer my question until they actually re-read my post.
Quote:And yes, I am snarky. If you did a little research, it's because I'm 14, turning 15 tomorrow btw. * And I don't act like an adult, that's for sure. I'm not blaming my age as a reason for my snark, no. I'm simply stating the facts here. I want a female hero I can hope to be in my life. Not the superpower part, no, but the warrior female. I'm going through a rough patch with bullies right now, and the hope of one day being the strong, valiant hero is an allure I can't resist.I saw a part of the game I was dissatisfied with, and I asked a question about it. Let's try to answer it, ok? Let's not spend time trying to prove me wrong. Just tell me I'm wrong if I am, but I don't know where there has been anything I've said that I insisted was the case.
Boobs are way more popular than you think! Some people have an obsession with them, regardless of size or shape! -
Quote:Oh joy! Another one of these threads. I'm a female as well, and I'm almost fed up with all the complaints from other female players who pretend this game should be a simulation of real life.Originally Posted by GreatRockI would like to say a few things before I begin.
Firstly, I am a girl in real life.
Secondly, I am a fan of making both male and female costumes.
Alright, let's roll.
The City of Heroes costume creator. One of the most amazing parts of the game. The literal millions of options are astounding, yet I can still find few faults.
Namely, the abilities to make your cleavage larger then your head. Real girls, in real life, don't have breasts that big. And that bothers me a lot. I'll admit I'm sensitive to that stuff, I am not as.. endowed... as others, but still! I imagine that feature was developed by males, for males. All the females I know set their cleavage at a minimum, because thats an actual size.
Another thing: Why can't girls have chest icons as big as boys? They are almost impossible to see, and really effect some 3D elements. I'd prefer it if they were the same size. Or, at least, large enough to see.
And yet another thing: The shoulder items are tiny compared to males. What if I want a heavily armored girl, with huge, thick armor and a normal, unarmored head?
And yet ANOTHER thing: Why do all the female hairstyles look somewhat the same? Can we please get one that doesn't look like it's being held up by over a ton of hairspray? Can't we get spikey, short hair that doesn't click into our details? And why is the first hair "Medium?" It is the ugliest hairstyle I've seen, ever, and it's the first thing that shows up when I reset my costume.
I'm sorry I sound like a brat, but that just really pisses me off...
~GreatRock
It's a video game based on comic books. Just as how it is unrealistic for someone to shoot flames out of their eyes, it can be unrealistic for most female character be super models with big boobs.
Sure, I wouldn't mind if they allowed us to make smaller breasts, but people who keep complaining that the slider shouldn't go that far off to the right are just being very, very insecure. I play characters with all kinds of boob sizes, and I'm tiny in real life (in most aspects!). Usually, I go for proportionality, from a comic book perspective.
As for you other points. Do you honestly not understand what "Technical Limitations" are?
And what if you want to make a heavily armored girl? What if I want to make a pony. Or a tentacle monster. Should they cater to me too? Instead of whining about things, learn to deal with the tools you were given and come up with the best possible ways to make use out of them.
Quote:Well, I'm pleasantly surprised by the amount of replies, but I'm not so pleasantly surprised by the amount of people telling me that they know people with big boobs.
Ok, then. Those who know endowed females. Tally up everyone you know withOUT boobies the size of trucks, then compare it to the person you know.
Satisfied? Saying you know an outlier doesn't make it less of an outlier. Ready for an actual update?
Good.
Ok, sorry, again, but bringing my personal bias into this post was a choice I made myself. And yes, I have small boobs. But that has nothing to do with why I feel uncomfortable with the amount of cleavage that can be displayed. I know, I know, I KNOW this game is based off of comic books, but there are plenty of people in comic books that aren't so endowed. I just wanted more... manly not-males. A tomboy, or even just a person with a female head but a male body. I wanted an unstoppable badass, not a person unreasonably thin. And I'm all right with the changes not happening, as long as it was possible to create such effects without cookie cutter ways. And a recent poster, I forget your name, yes, that is a great female body. But, the pose is not available in the creator, and the shoulders seem too small. Not that I'm critiquing your costume, I think it's awesome, but I just... want more, I guess.
And Thauminator, I hope you go die in a fire. Just saying. You're a biased immature jerk, with nothing better to do then jeer at those expressing their feelings. You've alienated everyone on the forums by trying to expose my fault I ALREADY EXPOSED, then reacted with an attempted "Im taking my all and going home" move.
Thanks for the support, guys! And a happy holidays!!! -

Quote:This is the first time I'm hearing FF being compared to Cold Domination. People actually do that?!Cold Domination
Actually Cold Domination is quite a nice set. What I want to address specifically is the notion that Cold Domination is a replacement for Force Field. It's not. I'm not going to say Force Field isn't a set that could use some buffs. But anytime someone says they would "always take a Cold over a Force Field" I'm left with the immediate impression they are someone who has little first hand experience with the relative strengths and weakenesses of an actual support set, and is viewing both sets only in light of what they would provide for their best characters on the toughest fights in the game. Ironically, it is this same focus that IMO tends to elevate Sonic Resonance higher than it really deserves.
My Fire/Cold Corruptor would heavily disagree. Since I'm a damage person, I deliberately skipped all the teammate shields on this character. I didn't want to spend time shielding people. And believe it or not, she's more than effective as a reliable teammate. A perma Rain of Fire and Sleet and the occasional Heat Loss are all a team needs to just crush its way through any spawn. Enemies don't even last long enough to be of any threat thanks to all that -RES and all that fire raining onto them and the fireballs exploding in their faces! She's what I call a "Blasterruptor". So far I've been kicked out on sight from 2 or 3 teams. On others, I go in, the leader and everyone starts going "lol u have no shields", and then they realize that they really don't need shields and we all become BFFs.
Let's see FF do that!
Granted, FF has its own strengths. They're just different sets. -
Quote:The Fear Aura actually makes a rather huge difference. The thing with DA is that it has a completely different playstyle than the conventional Melee defensive set. It relies on control rather than raw defense and resistance to survive.DM/DA brutes/scrappers/tanks. I don't see why people keep bragging about how strong they are. My DM/DA brute's level 30 and trying to play the character is like pulling teeth. barely any survivability even with Dark Regen and Siphon Life, barely kills anything even with Soul Drain, Smite, and Shadow Punch, and a major end hog on top of that. True I don't have either of the Disorient or Fear auras yet, but I can't see either making that big of a difference in effectiveness.
Every other Scrapper, Tank, and Brute, even the DB/ELA Brute, I have was easier and less painful to level.
But you're right. It's not everyone's cup of tea. I certainly abandoned mine because of the endurance issues. -
Quote:Yes. SR is also boring in that regard. I forgot to mention it! It's partially why I stopped playing my Dual Blades/SR Brute. She was nearly unkillabled. But dear gawd, so boring! It was worse with Dual Blades you had to press the attacks in the -exact- same sequence -every- time. I could literally write a script that would take care of playing her to full efficiency.Well, WP really isn't much different than SR under those circumstances.
Really, both the sets are, toggle and go sets. With Brutes/Tankers making out better with WP than Scrappers, and imo Stalkers have a bit more active version (with Reconstruction) and even easier to softcap than the Scrapper/Brute version.
Archery, I see the appeal, the animation just BOOOORE me.
Empathy and Pain are more than just heal sets though, but I see you're reason for saying they're over hyped, when people think they MUST have one on the team to be effective.
As for Empathy, yes. That's what I meant. When people invite Empathy and Pain to team because they're looking for a "healer", it just pains me. And it's so incredibly common, even among CoH's veteran players. It's all your fault, WoW! -
Quote:Yes! Thank you!Speaking of Overhyped, I would have to say Nightwidows are stupidly overhyped.
Everyone and its mother right now has an IO'd-out Night Widow that they keep bragging about. Speaking from someone who prioritizes "fun factor" over numbers and statistics, I think Night Widows are incredibly boring as an Epic Archetypes.
Peacebringers get cool power effects and shape shifting powers, and a bunch of nifty powers that no other Archetype has access to.
Warshades get even cooler powers with cooler effects that do crazy things. Personally if I didn't dislike the Warshade Inherent, I think Warshades would be one of my favorite archetypes.
Crab Spiders get the cool mechanical arms and all those unique-looking powers that just stand out so much in a team with the little spiders crawling all over the place.
Banes are like Stalkers with maces, and that alone, I find is a really fun concept.
What do Night Widows and Fortunatas get? A mish-mash of Claws, Psionic Blast, Psionic Assault, Mental Manipulation, Ninjitsu, and the leadership pool and some other powers that merely boost their stats. I think the only cool and unique powers in the entire arsenal of a Night Widow are the Poison Darts and Dart Burst. For this reason alone, I think they're very over-rated.
Edit: I even made a Widow and leveled her to 42 just to see what all the fuss is about. I just got so bored of its play style. At least Claws is fun cause you get Focus and Shockwave... -
Super Strength.
I hate the fact that you almost -have- to take Hasten if you're making a Super Strength build, and the dependency on Rage and its crash are just so incredibly annoying to me.
Willpower.
I personally have 2 Willpower characters, both Scrappers. I like the set in terms of stats and numbers and everything. But come on. The entire set looks so boring. xD
Archery.
Like Super Strength, I just don't like it when one or two powers define an entire set. Archery is almost in the same boat with Rain of Arrows.
Empathy and Pain Domination (A.K.A. H3a1z0rx)
Buffs and DeBuffs are almost always more effective than "Heals". Enough said! -
Quote:A little thought and a number of good decisions in character build up can go a long way in making your endurance manageable, before or after Stamina. Why is that?
It's very simple really.
1) You can now take more attacks and defensive powers sooner. (You know, Those things that use up endurance)
2) You have the same number of enhancements to spread over more powers, reducing the amount of endurance reduction enhancements you can slot. (Well, you know, since it is almost a requirement on all AT's to slot 2 ACC enhancements on every attack if you hope to, you know, like, hit anything at all.)
3) Stamina, slotted with low level enhancements does little to overcome the drain added by #1 and #2
It really evens out at higher levels, but the endurance problem for low level characters has only been exacerbated by inherent fitness.
Now, everyone tell me why I'm wrong.
If you really -have- to replace the power slots previously taken up by Fitness by more attacks and toggles, there are lots of cheap, low level IOs that provide Recovery bonus.
Just because you now have early Stamina, doesn't mean you should take all your toggles as soon as possible and turn them on 24/7. If you have to take all your toggles as soon as possible and turn them all on 24/7, then slot them all with 2 or 3 END RDX.
You can also now spend low levels to...you know...get travel powers! Remember those? Remember that nifty Flight pool before Ninja Run came along and made most travel powers obsolete? Yah, those! You have room for those now!
Just because you can't contain your "I must haz all mah powerz! GIMME MOAR! MOAR POWAH! MUHAHAHAH!" urges, doesn't mean inherent Stamina is causing issues. -
Quote:PM me your Global and I might take you on on some of the relaxed happy fun times ITFs and LGTFs I run!My problem is that PUGing is my only way to team. In my many years here, the people I knew and played with has dropped to 0. I guess I'll just keep my eyes open for DKTF's since they're always fun.
Though I haven't run one in a week or so. I'm focusing on leveling a character right now. But I could still hook you up!
-
Quote:That is the primary reason for which I avoid PUGs for TFs and SFs. When I do a TF, I wanna do it to have fun and enjoy playing the game. I don't want to rush through it with my super-uber build just to get the maximum "Reward per Minute" ratio. When did the speed TF become so commonplace that they became the rule as opposed to the exception? It's getting to the point where the 1 required team activity is no longer worth doing because there is no teamwork.
And usually, most PUGs don't go with that, since there is always that one person on team who keeps nagging that people are slow and that he can solo that one room to make it go faster.
I dislike that person. And that person who always goes ahead of the team as if just trying to show off how awesome his or her Brute is. You know who you are...you!!! Grrr!
I imagine this has only become worse with the introduction of Incarnates.
Edit: I pretty much do what Larker said. I lead TFs very frequently. But only with my SG mates and their friends or anyone else I know that isn't an obnoxious efficiency expert (we still complete TFs fast, but no one tries to ENFORCE it, and no one's obnoxious about it. We're just that good! We pretty much kill anything in our path and clear all ambushes!). I like to call them FunTFs! -
Many people seem to think others are complaining because they can't win.
It's not that. Really. At least not to me. I don't care if I don't win or if I do.
What I -am- saying is that the method in which these contests are executed in are incredibly absurd.
They could host an in-game event. They could have some sort of a trivia contest on the forums or twitter or whatever.
If they told me "Sit here and refresh this page for 10 minutes, and we'll post 20 codes at random time intervals within that 10 minutes!"...I'd even be okay with that.
But they want me to sit around for TWELVE DAYS during my last year's exam period, constantly refreshing some websites in a hope that I get one of these codes? And then I'd have to rush through to the NCSoft account, and depending on the billion factors that would affect the speed of that transaction, I may or may not succeed?! I'm laughing as I'm writing this! That's how ridiculous these contests are.
I seriously have better things to do! xD
And to those people who say "They're doing this to bring people together to Twitter and Facebook and other communities!" (I personally refuse to go anywhere near Facebook or Twitter after I closed and deleted both my accounts. xD)...they could do tons of things to do that that doesn't involve some silly contest mechanism like this. -
Quote:I'm bored.Im still trying to figure out if Im insulted or not...
On one hand if Im not insulted about the incarnate system then Im not a skilled player...then that means the OP called me unskilled...then Im insulted, now Im right back to being skilled because Im insulted.
Im confused.
--Frog
Let p denote the event that you are skilled. That makes ~p you being unskilled.
Let q denote the event that you are insulted. That makes ~q you not being insulted.
So, by the original post:
p => q
~q => ~p
We also have, from your post:
~p => q
q => ~p
The issue is that the last statement (q => ~p) is not actually true. Because you being insulted doesn't not HAVE to mean that you're unskilled or skilled. But you being unskilled does mean you will be insulted. Hence,
~q => ~p => q => ~p
is not actually true. However,
~q => ~p => q
is still true, which means ~q => q, which makes no sense, and hence proves that this theorem is flawed. Q.E.D. -
Quote:I don't get it, but some people have a phobia when it comes to starting their own teams. I guess it's got something to do with the whole leadership role thing. Also I have found that STARTING a team works better than LOOKING for team.
The ONLY valid point from the "Shards should be available from not just TFs and RNG!" crowd that I see is the fact that some people play at odd hours. And for them, it may be incredibly difficult to form task forces, or they play in low-populated servers. I used to play in Pinnacle for a while. In the morning by Eastern Time.
I not only could not find a team, but I couldn't start one either! There was virtually no one online to play with!!!
So I understand that point, and I respect it, and I wish the developers consider it at some point. -
Quote:Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. We all have it to some degree.Anyways, I don't understand the O.M.G. I must get incarnate slotted NAO attitude. The next batch of incarnate stuff probably won't be hitting until January at the earliest, so what's the point in rush, rush, rushing the stuff today? Neverminding that the Incarnate TF's, specifically the Director 11 fight, really seem to be balanced against having more Incarnate Buffs than are currently available in game.
I really don't understand the purpose of making an Alpha-slot enhancement, just to make an enhancement. I see no reason to waste resources on making a cardiac boost when I'm looking at the spiritual tree.
So, sorry, can't explain it to you, I don't understand it either.
It's the same as getting to level 50. People want to "complete" their characters, and Incarnates makes their already "complete" characters "incomplete". So they wanna fix that by "completing" them ASAP cause the lack of "completion" disturbs the force.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's bad or anything. I do it too, especially when I'm buying IOs for that final build of my character.
Sure, I could wait a couple of weeks to buy that Obliteration set that I need for my level 50 to be "complete" with it. But that's too long!!!! I would pay -anything- to have the Obliteration NOW and be "done" with that character than to have her NOT be "complete" just because of one stupid set.
It's just human nature. xD
Personally though, I don't see Incarnates as a way to "complete" my characters. I see it as a bonus. I have not unlocked it on any of my characters yet, and I have no even respec'd any of my characters with the changes to Inherent Fitness. I'm just taking my sweet time leveling a fresh character to 50, and she'll probably be the one and only character of mine with Incarnate abilities! -
Quote:That's the thing though! At first I thought this combination would be kindda lame for me, cause I like AoE damage. But after slotting my Blazing Aura with damage, and Burn, and the recent addition of Fiery Embrace, I really don't need any more AoE! Enemies already drop so fast that I just need to be survivable enough to survive the Alpha hit. You're right about most of the attacks being single target, but burn's up every spawn, and soul drain can be slotted for a bit of damage as well.
In my original build, I wanted to slot Soul Drain and Dark Consumption for Damage just to squeeze out more AoE. But I don't even need that!
Just hop into a spawn, Soul Drain -> Fiery Embrace (optional) -> Burn -> Chew on the boss...done! Next!
Sometimes they die so fast I don't get to use them as fodder for Dark Consumption... -
Yah. Honestly I just came here to post that I think I'd actually pay to get a bunch of these in a booster pack. But I'm not gonna sit there with my eyes peeled on a site all day in a frustrating attempt to try and snatch codes while I could...you know...be PLAYING the game. xD

... Facing situations in my games where I have to either work my *** off or go find a game for babies does not motivate me to try harder and excel. It motivates me to throw my hands in the air and go away. And I don't like it when games make me do that.
I'm not saying that video games should be based on rewards for the effort you put in like in real life.
The very basic notion of a game (any game) involves creating a notion of a 'goal' and an 'achievement' for a player. The path to this goal should be composed of various challenges and tasks that are considered 'fun'. This makes playing the game fun and interesting. To provide the player with satisfaction, the game then will award the player when they reach that goal. This reward can be anything as simple as a higher rank on some scoreboard, or a badge.
That's the basic structure of any game, or even sport.
In City of Heroes, there are a variety of goals a player can aim towards. A most obvious one is "hitting 50". Issue 19 brought a new goal, and that was unlocking the Alpha Slot and equipping it with an Alpha Slot Enhancement. That's the goal. The designers seem to have decided that this goal should come at great cost, not only because of the concept, but because it would make it be something of great value rather than simply "Oh hey, I got some +RECH in my build. Neat. What's next?". It's about going through a journey and reaching that goal, and finally be rewarded with your new ability.
Saying "I want Incarnates to be 100% soloable and still get the rewards in X amount of time like everybody else!" is like saying "I want level 50 to be 100% soloable and still get to 50 in X amount of time like everybody else!"
It's a matter of choice, cost, and benefit.
You CHOOSE to get the incarnate slot. That CHOICE comes at a cost. You could either spend Y amount of time and farm missions to get the shards, or you could spend a fraction of Y and join a TF and get the shards. That's YOUR CHOICE.
It's up to YOU to decide which path is more profitable and gets you to your goal faster, and THAT'S PART OF THE GAME. It's what makes "the path" actually INTERESTING.
I don't think I can elaborate into further detail. -
Quote:While 'weird', I think, is a wrong choice of words, you have to accept that an MMORPG would be directed more at co-operative and competitive game play with other players. Sure, it -allows- you to solo, and that's a big bonus, but it certainly doesn't -have- to, due to the genre of the game. Just because you solo often, it doesn't mean the game is specifically designed for solo play. It just allows it.Why is that weird? I play three different MMOs solo. This game has far more content than any single player game that I'd like, it's quite soloable from 1 to 50, and it's a great superhero game.
Soloable incarnate content would be nice, along with the TFs and raids, but I'm not really concerned about that. End game stuff doesn't really interest me.
Still, CoH is very very solo friendly as-is, and I'm happy about that. I usually don't team beyond Task Forces and such because I like to fight at my own pace. -
Quote:I'm currently leveling a Dark Melee/Fiery Aura Scrapper, and it's possibly one of the most fun characters I've had since my Fire Blast/Cold Domination Blasterruptor.I want to make a new toon.
What Toon would be the best with
AoE
Status protection
Great incarnate potential
Will be a lvl 50 toon only.
Looking for out of the box suggestions.
With Dark Melee, you get exception single target damage (not spike damage, but very steady and high DPS).
With Fiery Aura, you get Burn which, since the changes, is all the AoE you will ever need. You also get Blazing Aura if you need just a tad more AoE, and Fiery Embrace to further increase your damage on top of Soul Drain.
The downside is that it's a big costly on the endurance side, but that's easily fixed since you get Consume AND Dark Consumption.
But the best thing about it? You get 2 heals, one of which is part of your attack chain!
Very survivable (I can solo +1/x4 at level 32 easily), and it'd even be more survivable at 44 with Shadow Meld from Soul Mastery. Massive AoE damage. Exceptional single target damage. And it only gets better with the Spiritual Incarnate since it not only enhances your two heals, it also helps you recharge your big powers like Soul Drain, Shadow Meld, and Fiery Embrace much faster.
The only thing not covered is "Status Protection". Fire is vulnerable to Fear, Confuse, and Knockback, if I remember correctly. And you can only free yourself of immobilize through casting Burn. The KB is fixed with an IO or two. But the Confuse and Fear holes are still there.
