Quote:By your standards nothing is vital then I guess. My fire/SR scrapper can solo +4/x8 without a kin/SB. But with the SB I go much faster at killing things and start chaining my top 2 attacks to decimate things.I've yet to find a single time in the game where speed boost really decided the fight. And I can easily understand someone not taking it. Or respecing out of it. Especially after 20+ levels of dealing with people who yell at you for not keeping it up 100% of the time.
While many buffs can save a team, such as resistance/defense shields or regen buffs, rarely will a recharge buff be vital, and rarer still is a recovery buff vital I find.
Take SB don't be a tard, and if you really don't want to take SB either solo the whole time or make a second build with it. But don't whine and ***** and people give you guff or even kick you for missing a key power that everyone expects you to have. -

To bad median completion times don't include failed attempts.

ditto, I was right in the middle of a TF as well and the game keeps freezing when i try to get back on. Been crashing ALOT since i17 seems like they didnt even test the thing what with the enormous amount of bugs that have showed up. -
Quote:Reading comprehension FTLI'm really very sorry that you actually think SB is the defining power of the set.
Honestly, it's one very nice buff. And yes, it does help the team.
But /Kin has MYRIAD buffs including a relatively fast-recharging End-REPLACEMENT power (as opposed to End Recovery).
If ANYTHING defines the /Kin set, it's Fulcrum Shift. A buff that increases damage without requiring the team to attack MORE, that simultaneously damage-debuffs the enemy mobs. Better still, it's an AoE.
I said key powers, POWERS, not power. Maybe actually read next time.
And I don't really care what a kins excuse is to not take SB they get kicked for being selfish.
Fulcrum shift doesn't do much for range types so ya SB is way better.

It's like talking to a brick wall.
Yup this thread just became pointless -
Quote:You -are- aware of how a chainsaw works... right? You'd fire the chain. Which would then require a lengthy "Reload" time involving removing the faceplate of the chainsaw...
Firing an infinite amount of bullets from semi-automatic pistols without reloading is -kind- of a stretch, but it happens in comics all the time. Firing a chainsaw chain at your target is both ridiculous and unprecedented in it's silliness.
At least sword-firing has made it into the movies!
-Rachel-
Did you even read what I wrote? Are you aware how assalult rifles work right? well in case you don't they don't shoot fire, grenades or beanbags so a chainsaw shooting of a chain isn't that big of a stretch. -
Quote:You make it sound so sweet like a Godzilla fight or something.Halve the HP, take away the regeneration and BAM, a fight that will end but can still be fun and epic.
Then just take various maps, convert for destructable objects and a more arena looking feel and it can be awesome. Imagine a closed off Portal Corps courtyard, or the Atlas statue globe being smashed in half.. Oooh, Rikti Mothership? I want to see U'kon Gr'ai fighting the Arachnos Flier on the Rikti Mothership as it floats above Atlas!
There could be several game modes of this.. As said, 1 v 1, 2 v 2, GM vs 8 man team.. How about a Last Man Standing? GM vs GM vs 8 person team.. Full House? At least 1 v 2, one person's chosen at random to be the GMs and they gradually go through the full set available untill the others are dead or they run out of respawns/GMs.. Rampage? GM is slown down to the speed of Walk and has to destroy every destructable on a map before they're defeated by the opposing player/s..
It could be so cool, awesome idea. -
I like the idea. We have mutli purpose assault rifle that not only shoots bullets but also fire, grenades and even beanbags so why not a chainsaw that shoots a blade. Think of it as a short range attack like impale or focus.
-
Ya I'd kick a kin with no SB, just like I'd kick a mastermind with no pets. I don't get why people play certain sets when they don't take they key powers that define said set.

Quote:It is something like that, yes. EF -dam doesn't get nerfed against AVs though unless the AV has got damage resistance.
What I like about Cold :
- Sleet
Recharges in about 15-20s and awesome mitigation between slow and KD (not saying Sleet's slow by itself is so hot, but combined with Snow Storm it is*). Not only that but unless I recall poorly you can also have two Sleet effects at once (debuff lasts 30s), so against static targets that's close to perma -60% res.
On fast moving teams EF is up more often, but Sleet has a bigger radius and the KD/slow makes a bigger difference than EF's -dam in my experience.
- Shields + FW + Arctic Fog
Shields give +24% def to all to your teammates, against +4s that's basically better than RI and on all the time (as opposed to only after you're anchored something and only 15' around the anchor).
Arctic Fog adds another +8% def to that on a wide radius, bringing your teammates to an impressive 32% def (and some nice cold/fire/energy res as well). It's already pretty damn close to the softcap. That's defense that is always there and works against everything that isn't autohit, as opposed to tohitdebuffs.
Then there's Frostwork capping HP for a few teammates. Max HP is one of the most undervalued things in this game, or it could be that I just play completely differently than most people, but I know what kills me is damage spikes and having more HP prevents a lot of deaths for me. I've read the argument that squishies accoladed out, IOed out are close to the HP cap, but fact is on PuGs this is the exception and not the norm.
- Heat Loss
Infinite endurance for your whole team, and all it takes is one click every two minutes. That it also has a massive slow and an additional res debuff is just icing on the cake.
- Benumb
Much higher -dam than EF ; being ST on a long recharge I don't find it so great against anything but AVs, and the recharge is worse than LR for -regen purposes, but it's still going to be up most of the time.
Infrigidate never struck me as really worth it, YMMV.
*I also agree on Snow Storm creating a lot of visual interference, and I don't actually use it much. On paper it's a good power especially stacked with Sleet, ingame I find it more detrimental than anything else ; but all other 7 cold powers are fantastic in my opinion.
The only real downside I see with this powerset is it's tough (at least for me) to find time to use anything but cold powers on full teams.
You forgot the other downside, no self/aoe heal. Never underestimate a good heal that recharges really quickly.
On topic for the OP I think Rad emmision is a top set and am in the category of it being better then cold -
The giant malta robot GM would own all cause it has minus regen in its attacks and everyone else would just draw. To many HP not enough damage.

Quote:I see that you have no idea what constitutes a proven business model.
City of Heroes has a proven business model that has 6 years of success under it's belt. DDO's business model hasn't reached the 8 month mark yet. That's right they've only been doing the Free to Play thing since September of last year. They are still waiting to see if it will be a success.
Sure it has only been 8 months but they have open 2 new servers since. I think that says alot about their buisness model and deffinatly says its succesful if anything. What would you call it? -
Quote:I think personally its a good buisness model for any game but thats just my opinion. Wether the game is dying or not cause if it does that for a dying game I just imagine what it would do to a healthy game.I bolded the most important part of your post. If the game had been a real success turbine never would have even considered the new business model. This game is a healthy success so there's no need for NCSoft to make a desperate gamble in the closing hours to save this game.
Quote:And for your information that game is not free to play. If you want the full game experience like players get here you still have to get a subscription. Otherwise you have to buy access to everything.
Quote:And what would the Free to Play person get if they followed the DDO business model?
4 characters per server. The rest would have to be bought unless they had a subscription. Pre-existing characters over the limit would be locked out unless they had a subscription or they paid real US dollars to unlock them again. I know this for a fact as I have an account whose sub ran out and all but 3-4 characters are locked out.
DDO has restricted races and character classes that you have to buy to play. in this game that would translate to:
Restricted AT's. Archetypes would be limited and players would have to buy them if they wanted to play them. $20. bucks each in DDO
Restricted powersets. Players would have to pay to access additional powerset choices. $20. bucks each in DDO
Restricted costumes. Players would have access to a very limited set of costumes and would have to buy additional items for each seperate character. $6.50 for "x" items.
Costume changes: $6.50
Extra Costume slots: probably match our current $9.99
Extremely limited content. Players in DDO have to buy additional story arcs and task forces. So say goodbye to free updates. Every time something new gets released players would have to buy access to it for each character. That would include access to some of the higher level zones, because in DDO if you haven't bought the story-arc that sends you someplace in a restricted zone, you don't get to go there. In DDO new content costs about $20 bucks
Quote:Oh wait you want to have teammates come along with you on that new mission you bought you have to buy permission to temporarily invite people to your team. You can get 2 temporary invites last 60-90 minutes for $6.50
The only way around that is if they already bought the same mission you have for their character or if they have a subscription.
Oh you want a bank storage space? $20 bucks. and that only gets you +20 character slots and +10 global bank slots.
Character Storage: What they call folders/bags costs $6.50 per character.
Want to form a Supergroup? $20 bucks. and all that gets you is the ability to invite people to your SG. Bases won't be included. Furthermore there will be no more earning prestige for bases. Every SG will get a basic floor plan and if they want to expand it will cost money. decorations anf utility are also extra expenses to come out of a players wallet.
Quote:Inspirations? Gotta pay cash for them unless you are lucky enough to get them on a drop, and each tier of inspiration would be more expensive than the last. Starting at 5 for $6.50 up to $20 for an awaken or a stack of CoB's
Quote:Enhancements? yep they cost real money to.
Salvage will also cost money.
Same with Crafting.
Travel Powers? Yeah you have to buy them seperately in DDO. In that game they are temp powers with a limited number of uses and cost $6.50
Quote:Respec's as expected they cost money too.
Quote:We would seriously have to question the intelligence of anyone that thinks people would stick around to play this game if they based it on DDO's business model.
Question peoples intelligence based on a buisness model that is proven to work? Kettle this black, Hi black /waves -
Quote:Indeed it means free to play and it deffinatly gets alot of new people trying it that other wise wouldn't. But if it was craptastic people would be spending money on it or as much and wouldnt stick around.Seems to me the F2P part (which took me a minute to decipher, I assume it's 'Free to Play') is probably the key issue there. Take something with the base possibilities of D&D and make it free play? Even if it's craptastic, you'll get a lot of folks trying it.
Just saying.
I think alot of people just would rather pay for new content as it comes out or just the stuff they want then be forced into a sub.
I personally think what turbine did was in genious and last second quick thinking to save a game and make it profitable again.
I would personally love if they did such a buisness model here because personally I think paid subscription games have alot less people try them just on principle, where as you have both models free and sub it is best of both worlds is even proven to be succesful. -
Quote:people say don't stand still cause of stalkers obvi you aint gonna survive a horde of villains you know unless you phase or something.Thats the one thing thats always urked me about PvP in this game.
"Dont stand still, always move."
Iv seen people do it on Squishy ATs, and it rarely works to save there life.Unless of coarse the horde comming after them was half retarded or it was there first pvp day or something along those lines.
Reguardless of the PvP Rules in this game, iv only seen a few things survive a horde bash, or 1 on 1 rummble.I Activly beat the hell out of 3 Stalkers at once on a FA/SS Tanker in Siren's Call one day.(Burn only sucks if your a Stalker)
Iv seen other players with Damage Resistant builds cream people now days in PvP Zones. You wanna be a PvP/PvE character?Build a Spines/Elec Scrapper, or a FA/SS Tanker, or a Dark/DM Tanker.Theres alot of options. -
Quote:DDO or dungeons and dragons online was on life support so they merged servers. They also opened an item shop and went F2P but also kept a vip with with paid suscriptions. Not only did it help the game tremendously but it has opened 2 new servers since.
Name me one MMO with as few shards as CoH has that underwent server closings/consolidation and wasn't going on life support.
.
Just saying. -
Quote:PvP currently is comparable to the PvE world back in I2 or I3, when not knowing much about much led to most rolling blasters and scrappers and needing only Healzors because all else was said to underperform. It's funny at times to see one who considers their self to be skilled at PvP when all they really do is get kills over and over. That's not PvP. It happens in PvP, but it's silly to design a game where that is all that matters. I13 sought to rid of that mentality, but instead the playerbase just discouraged the use of any set that needed assitance and promoted the ones that stood high above all. The easy route.
.
This hmm idk let me explain. You say
Quote:It's funny at times to see one who considers their self to be skilled at PvP when all they really do is get kills over and over
Then you follow it up with
Quote:The devs can only alter the system-change the game. It's unfair to assume they are responsible for what we the players choose to play. We the players are responsible for adding diversity to PvP
If the devs really wanted people to pvp they woulda added more mini games instead all they did was change the rules. Diversity be damnded it would seem. -
I kept it for my crab since their single target DPS aint that great it's good to have for bosses etc, redraw be damned.

Quote:Full Auto and Rain of Arrows are fantastic. If you are going to make them keystones to how you play, AIM and Buildup are your friends
No.
AIM+ BU+Fire ball + Fire Breath ~= 560 pts of damage at max
AIM + BU + Rain of Arows ~= 800 pts of damage at max
Rain targets 16 enemies firebreath targets 10.
Generally the chain for a fireblaster includes something else after Fireball, usually from the secondary to get that nice 800 pts of lieutenant killing damage.
you forgot to add the defiance boost to fire breath that one gets from using fireball first, can't check the numbers not in game right now.
And the attack one uses after firebreath like you said gets the defiance boost of both those powers where as ROA gets no such boost. So it evens out especially if ones secondary is mental and their third attack happens to be pyshic scream.
edit. just one more thing but 4 of the 7 secondarys of blasters have counters to the end drain of full nukes
power sink, conserve power(just need to pop 1 blue first), consume and drain psyche. -

Quote:Was suggested some time ago by myself(yup I'm Lucky this is a friends account I play on when my two lapse from time to time, you wanna fight about it?)Another thing I'd do to boost competing sets would be to allow da and fa to use their 'rez' powers while alive - obviously the rez power wouldn't activate, but the pbaoe stun/fire dmg would.
