As I said in the other thread, it sure would have been nice if the promised forum post had been here too, since the message did say "check the forums".

/em agree! A proper forum post announcing would have been the decent thing to do

  3. What's you favorite colour?

This is a post for all Domi fans and born from a combination of the sheer joy of anticipation, contentment, frustration/regret, and because I always love to think about different builds. And last but not least, apart from thinking about it on my own, also like to discuss it and I am interested in other peoples experiences and opinions. So the idea of this thread is basically this:
If you could only pick each primary and secondary once, which 6 combo's of possible Domi's would you like to build?
Or hypothetically, what combo's you actually think synergize best in your opinion given the fact you ofcourse have to make some compromises because you can only can have each primary and secondary one time.

When CoV came out I immediately was gripped by the dominator AT. Coming from CoH with a Controller fetish it seemed obvious to me that I would want to get to know their evil twins. And indeed, Dominators turned out to be a great source of joy for me to play. I got over 200 extensive and intensive lvls of Domineering under my belt of which 3 of them at 50. After almost a year of me being away from the game and gaining maybe 3 lvls overall during that time, I have returned and I am fascinated by Domi's again! And with the changes in I15 it seems like an interesting time to give them some thought again.

With a refreshed perspective on things after my absence, I looked back on the Domi's I have build and thought about the immense joy I've had with them, but also looking ahead what direction to take this fascination for Domi's. With this excercise also came the regrets. Ofcourse I thought carefully about my set choices before making them, and one important criteria for me was to try out the different sets and not repeat a primary/secondary, so the three domi's I played to 50 were: fire/ice; ice/nrg and plant/fire. Another project (mind/thorns) has been stuck at lvl 27 for 465 days according to the login screen...

Coming to the apotheosis of this post I'll lay out my preference of what 6 combo's I would like to build/play/have, taking into account that each primary and secondary can only be chosen once! I will also give a short comment as to why these combo’s work good imho and even will elaborate on some crucial powers in the particular combo’s that establish the synergy. To keep it as simple as possible. I won’t get into complete builds and slotting details really. Here we go:

[u]-fire/fire [u] : simple put fiery embrace is superb to increase all your fire damage. Hotfeet contributed enormously to the dam output of my fire/ice and on a fire/fire this should be massive. Obviously the most damage orientated Domi, and more of a ranged warrior -Apart from hotfeet ofcourse (combustion is a bit pants imo, although I have it on my plant/fire for the wanted AoE dam, but from what I’ve understood about I15 changes, this power is gonna be even more gimped) also the fact domi’s are being given a dam boost when not being in domination, firey embrace scores even more points.

[u]-ice/ice [u]: nice secondarys effect with lots of –rech and –speed, AA is the defining power which wants you to be in melee a lot and synergizes well with the ice secondary for melee. Also PB on an ice Domi knocks anyones socks off!.

[u]-plant/thorns [u]: with SoC plant has absolutely the best damage mitigator available to Domi’s. SoC has a very good rech/duration ratio, is available very early and one of the good things about mass confusion is that the mobs tend to cuddle up to attack eachother in melee. This means that cone powers with short range and (relatively) small arc will work better here as you can hit a lot of mobs with one application. As well as does your usual (PB)AoE ofcourse. Thorns has planty of this: Thornburst (PBAoE), fling thorns (medium short range, wide cone) and ripper (short range, relatively wide cone).

[u]Mind/elec [u]: mind arguably offers the most control of all sets, especially ST wise. On top of mind being the best ST damaging primary, elec offers very good ST dam (and build up) and pretty poor AoE dam. Which is good for mind, because it means you can keep the mobs controlled (gotta love terrify!) and take out the mobs one by one pretty quick. Only issue could be posed by the sentinel aggroing slept/feared mobs. Then again the opinions on the value of this power are divided, so you might not even take it after all.

[u]-earth/psi [u]: earth/psi you say? I’ve never seen one, so anyone who plays one is an eccentric for sure . Earth offers excellent hard and soft control and some nice def debuffing. Psi has got a some very nice PBAoE in DP and PSW (which finally is getting the nerf it has had coming for a long time and the rest of the set treated with some loving) and which you can use in relative safety standing on your earthquake ,volcanic gasses, and the ghetto hold stalagmites+stone cages provide.

The last (and the least imo):
[u]-grav/nrg[u]: this is kind of the leftovers combined, but not completely random (personal note: Although it looks good, I’ve never really liked grav. Neither on trollers nor domi’s. And energy assault was also a bit of a disappointment on my ice/nrg, and if it wasn’t for a great bunch of people I teamed with regularly and the love for ice primary, this toon would probably have been deleted) Nevertheless, there are some nice things to say about this combo in theory. Gravs excels in KB (repel in the case of singy) and nrg secondary even adds to this, making a good -though admittedly bit more difficult to use- set for mob placement (also thinking wormhole) Also because of singy, a grav domi doesn’t really do well in melee. Conviently nrg assault is pretty poor in melee because of and the KB from your blasts and when compared to the other sets it lacks a good PBAoE power (whirling hands has small radius and dam is very mediocre, but it looks like that with I15 the radius will be increased somewhat), though bonesmasher and TF are good melee ST attacks. In addition having PB is basically nice on any domi.

So this was my theoretical excercise creating a “wishlist”. Were we able to change primary/secondary sets or I’d could do it all over again the list above would be what I’d like to build (except probably the grav/nrg Domi) given the condition that each primary/secondary could be picked once. It is arbitrary ofcourse, but I hope I’ve drawn a clear picture that also might be used as a quick insight in the different powersets and synergies.

Now it’s for me to respec this mind/thorns of mine into something nice and continue the journey I started long time ago and for you to put down your lists and start talking!
  4. I know exactly what you mean Carni! Had my rad/pain up to lvl 13 and the last few lvls I had a hard time staying alive due to AoE agro and the heal penalty of share pain. Decided to reroll with ice blast. Although sonic blast should be really good imo, I can't be put up with that again. I don't like the feel of it and the frigging sounds...
Gotta say ice/pain feels very good up till lvl 8 so far.

@Londoner: What do you think of soothing aura?
  5. Blue_Note

    Telekenesis

It stacks indeed, but I'm under the impression it holds everything but bosses, so that would make it mag 3?
  6. Cheers Xem,
been a long time indeed, but I'm making a slow return to the game, so you'll see more of me soon I think.

As far as primary goes I can imagine sonic or fire complementing well, but I already done two fire/ corrs and one sonic/ (and for some reason I can't seem to come to terms with sonic blast), so I tried rad blast for a change. And this can slot a nice bunch of procs as well. Also gave ice a thought...

Soothing aura values don't really impress me on paper healwiseand also it has got a bit small radius to my taste. +Regen sounds nicer and I guess the power would fit an MM better. Thing is I don't like MM's really, but very maybe I'll give a thugs/pain a try.

Having no RA? I'm absolutely not bothered and as far as expectations to any kind of thermal or emp I don't have at all as I tend to value each set on it's own as a whole.

Ill catch up with you soon,
    Blue

When solo : great with masterminds, you can keep your pets alive with some practice and makes highest rep missions easy. With a corrupter, its not the best for solo play as very little (especially low levels) effects you.

When teaming: Also great. Not as good as empathy (in my opinion) and you can never have it as a primary, so it'll take a long time for the good healing powers to become available.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Cheers for the reply Heyman!
Are there any more folks who can say some sensible words about the pain domination set- was thinking more for corrupters then MM's,hence I posted this in the corrupter section.
Any primaries you think it goes well with, or maybe not. How does it affect you. You notice significant difference when playing with a pain cor in comparison with another secondary. Likes & dislikes? Nice surprises or dissapointments maybe?

Have rolled a rad/pain for now at lvl 9 irrc, but will maybe reroll with abother primary.

Hopefully I will team with some pain corrs when playing with some of my high lvl chars, so I can establish a better perspective on the set.

    Cheers,
    Blue
  8. Hiya readers,

I've been wondering about the pain domination set for corrs. Making a gentle return after a long break I hardly ever see a pain domination corr -apart from the experiments below lvl 6 you see running around in mercy.

Also there is very, very little to be found on the forums. Is this a sign on the wall? Or is it just a case like earth trollers which were pretty rare and then suddenly years later became hot...

What are the pro's and con's of pain domination according to you? I am interested in your opinions and experiences with the set, both from playing it (to reasonable lvl) as well as teaming with pain dom corrs.
How useful you regard the set in a team and when solo?
Looking forward to reading of your reactions soon!

    Cheers,
    Blue
  9. Officially numbers are same as your regular nuke I think, but believe me, in play it's a whole other experience. Stay away from it, unless you really don't know what else to choose. Especially when your toon is heavy on the toggles...
  10. To farm or not to farm... it will always be a hot issue (and people who know me know what my POV is on this), but this is not the real issue at hand, so give it a rest please.

I have been retired from the game for a while now -and yes, I still read the forums now and then-, but I joined the Handies in the early stages and imho they are overall a fine bunch who have fun as their main credo, most specially thanks to their active, committed and cheerfull leader Von. Nothing but respect for her and the way she's been leading the Handies and inspiring players. A big hurray to her and all her adjudants!
So big congrats to the Handies for getting in spot nr.1 on both sides. Keep it up and stay cool!

I've also been knocked off the walkway on LGTF when we charged, landing in a group of +3 bosses with more from adjacent mobs aggroing as well on my kin/elec def and been able to handle the aggro from all 8 whilst the rest of the team took out the av

    [/ QUOTE ]
    ROTFL!

And yes Dante, kin is a pretty good debuffer for those heavy targets. Good -regen, -dam, -rech and very good heals to keep melee types alive. You won't be doing much to their end, but that's not a real issue. And with all the nice buff loving you can spread kin is an overall good set in a team to bring an AV to it's knees.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Transference will keep their END full even if SB doesn't... or did you mean something else?

The END drain of Transference on some mobs will drop their entire END in only a few hits while others never twitch.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Think he meant the -end of Transference not the +end. As the OP was about debuffs.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Indeed I meant the debuffing. The -end of transference on an AV is not gonna work.

It's not top AV killer -and if just one of the def sets on the team I'd prefer a darkie indeed (apart from the obvious evergreening rad) and I very much like the underestimated stormies on the team for this job too- but a good kin can be a very significant contribution to take out AV's and such. Maybe you could think of the kin buffs as reversed debuffs. +dam=-res; +rech=+DPS (=+dam=-res ); and also -regen as your typical debuff.
On top of that you can do a geat deal to keep the team (members) alive and filled up with end and rech, hence empowering the team to take down the AV quicker. Kinetic is also about buffs, but not really like an emp does.

  16. If this is the final layout of the set... it looks pretty nice!
  17. Good choice, Blackstar is c*r*a*p. Not worth at all loosing all your end and toggles.
I have a dark/rad cor on which i took it to try out for fun value at 47, but prolly the biggest mistakes I ever made in a build.
Life is better without. Do take the muchly underestimated Life Drain though, it's really nice.

i currently have a lvl 23 Fire/Dark corr and it works great so far, and thats without the fear or the toggle -acc

    [/ QUOTE ]
You would have had a much greater toon for about 15 lvls already if you had taken DN earlier. And stare should be in there soon too imo.
I have a 50 fire/dark with all nice sets and an average of 1 IO worth of end redux in the attacks and 2 in the dark toggles. It still eats end like there is no tomorrow. It's managable, but tough at times.
Very nice toon to play, and if you use DN skillful (as well as position fluffy correctly on top of tar) to herd big crowds in clusters it eats groups for breakfast.
  22. BIG congorats buddy!!
Shame i missed it, but atm RL is keeping me busy and pleasing me in many more ways then any game could possibly do
  23. dark blast evidently is farming material in optima forma...
  24. @eiceman: you 're right dude, didn't mean to sound harsh, just find that /ff is sooo boring

And about that earth/ta... it's a great combo! I have played one (as well as an earth/storm) and liked it very much all the way. In fact it's one of the only few rusted 50's i picked up playing again some time ago for fun (after turning that ancient I7 SO build into a more decent post-modernistic IO build)
