At 37th now. Just have SOs. This guy is already rocking the house. Granted only about 1/2 as effective as a Permadom. amazing change from my obsession with Brutes. or even my many attempts at more "traditional" doms. My last was a mind/Psi i ran up to 38 and had Perma'd (barely). This guy is just fun. Maybe not as utility as a straightforward Dom, but so many fun powers. And coming off another long stretch with Brutes, you gotta be impressed with Doms damage.

I absolutely love using wormhole on a held crowd. They seem so sad afterward.

I literally cannot wait to get to 50 and add the "real" enhancers and unwind this guy with a (maybe damage) Alpha slot. I am sure he will not only be funny thing, but kick like an irritated mule.
  2. I am extremely happy with my Dark/Invul Brute build. Please stop telling me to change it.

Again, please do not post any more comments on my Dark/Invul brute build. They are unnecessary, unneeded, and unwanted. The more you post advice on an item I am not asking for help on the more obvious it is that you are argumentative and trolling for agro.

Again, to clarify. I am extremely happy with my Dark/Invul Brute build. Please stop telling me to change it. If I ever mention that I am interested in another Brute, or archtype, or power set, please do not take that as a request for my Dark/Invul Brute build. If i ask why something costs so much on the market, please do not take this as a request for help on my Dark/Invul Brute build. If I ask why there are so many NPCs standing around the Black market, please do not take this as a request for assistance with my Dark/Invul Brute build. if i ask if anyone can solo a real AV, please do not take this as a request for assistance with my Dark/Invulnerabilty Brute build.

And PS, this is not a request for assistance with my Dark/Invul brute build.

    • Slot Siphon Life & Midnight's Grasp as attacks and not a "heal only" and as an immobilize.
    • Build for softcapped SM/L.

Some things simply just work out much, much better when slotted in a specific way.

I am extremely happy with my Dark/Invul build exactly the way that it is. Please stop trolling for fights.

Ich, i dont even know how, i have a brute i abused into getting 127.5% global recharge without hasten, and I dont think i could cram another 15% on to save my life. How the heck did you get 170+ lol?

But seriously, taking hasten doesnt bother me on a dom, I already have to be aware of the dom click anyways, so the added task is easy. And the one extra power, meh, especially after i19. i would love to have another power, but then, thats almost exactly what permadom is, only better.

Dark/Will huh.... I was soloing the game on one and got stuck at 20 trying to kill slag monsters in the pit for that capt idiot before he would give me missions. After a couple hours slowly killing those thing i gave it up.

Mebbe I will just quick grind the build up to 50 and see what it can do.
  6. I am planning on getting my Dom comfortably perma and then using my Alpha to do something else - Probably increase damage.

I just heard someone in the Scrapper forum say a Dom had solo'd the LRSF.

My sm/wp brute has only been able to successfully solo one AV... Manticore. Other than the teleporting arrow attack (auto hit, about 1000 damage) it wasn't so bad. My endurance bar was my true enemy. My attacks have 88% end reduction, I have two perf shifters, and a 4.0 recovery. That's enough to solo a Rikti Pylon no problem, but an AV makes me want to use ALL my toggles instead of just the three needed to shrug off a pylon. Big difference between .7 end/sec consumption and 1.25 (mostly darkest night and weave). Your dark/inv should be able to handle a few himself.

edit: Beaten to the AE punch
Interesting thought. Mine is actually built to tank, and mostly for fun. I have cranked about 200% global recharge onto him to bring up my fun powers fast, Soul Drain, Dark Consumption, Dull Pain, and Dark obliteration. The build is lotsa fun to run, and I can tank just about any uplevel AV (even did Posi and BAB for almost 3 min to pull them off a team-without Unstoppable) I think he is the best thing since Thanksgiving dinner. But I have been told he is written so badly he cannot damage low level CoT mages. I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle, and like I said, wow, tons of fun.

I've solo'd a couple of AVs on my WP/KM tanker, so since brutes have higher damage I'm fairly certain you should be able to do it with a brute.

Just watch out for AVs that resist your damage type; that's why FM and DM were the picks; less resisted and good single target damage.
this may be why as a long time Brute player I am having problems wrapping my head around this. Almost all my 50 Brutes are Super Strength, and my current main Dark/Invul is built to tank and throw out aoe (strange build, definitely not recommended by the community)

So, Energy/Will would prob rock against AVs?
  10. Lot of confusing stuff, mostly from trying to figure out when people seem to be directly disagreeing with the post above them and never actually saying that. But i got the gist. Flux's explanation helped.

And no, i do not think anybody is gonna solo the LRSF. C'mon. really? But if you do, again, tip of the hat, wag of the finger. It was just my extreme example of how tough we all know this things can be.

But yeah, i know people do more than 150 DPS (my builds not so much, i go sideways and have fun), so yeah, i can see them killing these guys, given time. and I understand some people can really crank that number, although I find it hard to believe, i do in fact believe it.

Thanks for the help understanding some of this.

What makes the difference is the individual AV itself, the environment has nothing particular making AVs stronger (unless what you really meant is "can scrappers solo level +1, +2, +3, +4 AVs").

I seriously hate to start this way, but this is wrong. If you are running a story arc solo that has a Hero or AV in it, it is set up as an EB with specialized powers to mirror it's full strength build.

I believe there is even an option in the fateweaver to allow you to solo these at full strength. However, the default is EB level.

"I would like to fight Arch-villains at their full strength, not as Elite Bosses" yes, there is the exact wording.
I am taking people at their wiord they can solo 4 of these at a time.... mostly cause I hate to argue. seriously.

But i do find it amazing when I do a LRSF against a bunch of heroes and it takes 7of us to take down one, while our 8th keeps the rest slept..... And then a melee character is like "I eat them for breakfast' Good for you, but I want to see it, ya know. Not saying anybody is lying, but danged. Hats off to you if you got this kinda toon.
  12. Pretty amazing. I guess I have always built for tankier characters. I will start rethinking what I know about melee characters. I assume there are certain powersets that accomplish this better than others?
  13. Can Scrappers solo full strength AVs? Not the glorified EBs found in story arcs. I mean the full strength ones you see in task forces.

I find it hard to believe that scrappers can put out enough damage to overcome a full strength AVs regeneration, but I may be surprised.

For this experiment assume you have enough tier 3 inspirations to softcap your def and hardcap your resistance, that they miss a lot, etc. Just, can it be done in theory?

So while, I would -love- to be able to go back to i4 and say, "Stand back, I'll handle this!" I'd settle for, "Don't worry about me, hurry back from the hospital I'll be alive when you get here!"
Dark Invul is what I would tell you then. It has a heal in Dark, as well as the big heal/HP Boost in Invul. With just SOs you should be able to do a passable job tanking just about any real AV, with the exception of ones spinning out tons of Psi. My build is heavy recharge, which does not help much with tanking, and i can still do it. Invulnerability is one of the best all around sets, and Dark makes it run smoother. You could just sit back and taunt/heal (siphon life) contantly, and prob tank most any AV. Also, I run fighting toggles, that helps a lot. Creates end problems, but again, you do not have to worry about damaging these guys, just tanking them. Also, dark has a end recovery utility power, very nice.

if you softcap Smash/Lethal defense on a dark/invul you will roar through most task forces as well.

    Grav/Energy

I understand this isn't one of the most favorite Doms. My 1st Dom was one, and it was a rough transition from my normal Brutes. Made it to about 38 before I started Bruting again. I have run about 10 different Dom builds to 25th. I've played a few years, and really want to have a good Dom in my stable.

I have pretty much decided on Grav/Energy 99.9% as my 50 Dom. I really like the powers and effects. It fits my concept extremely well. I think i shall have a lot of fun with it.

Does anyone have any insight to the build? I understand to avoid Propel (too bad, cause its just funny) I may throw it in just for hoots if I have room. The build is obviously different from most Doms due to Dimension Shift and Wormhole. It's also obviously a little light in AoE damage. Still, this is where I am going, so anybody who has knowledge i would love to hear from. What powers are unnecessary, how to use, etc.

Already have a plan for Pera'dom on the guy, stripping sets from my few other doms to make one good dom.
  16. Okay, are you talking about soloing real AVs? Or do you mean the AVs and Heroes found in story arcs, that if solo'd are really glorified (and usually tough) EBs.

I have solo'd these EB level AVs and Heroes on many different type brutes, including SS/Invul. (Although i was really having End management problems.)

If you mean truly soloing an AV I do not think it can be done, not on a Brute. My current main is a Dark/Invul. Pimped out with 5 purple sets, 2 PvP sets, and various Procs and Globals. with this build I can tank almost any AVs. that is it, just tank. I tanked Reichsman the other night for 10 min while waiting for the team to make it back from the hospital after a wipe. I tanked Positron and Back Alley Brawler solo while the team killed another AV. I used serious inspirations for this, and thankfully it was just under 3 minutes. I do not use Unstoppable, but I was just about out of inspirations lol.

The damage per second necessary to carry the fight against an AV just is not there. Even if you built a Brute for DPS at the expense of all else, and assumed you could survive the encounter, I doubt the DPS is there to take down a full strength AV. Has anybody actually solo'd one on a Brute?
  17. 3 part question here. I am going to try to rehabilitate my longtime 50 SS/Will even though he has no respecs left udsing the December 8th one.

The 1st part of the question is how much global recharge is needed to get around the Rage crash figuring rage at ED softcap for rech?

The 2nd part is what sets most efficiently bring me to softcap smash/lethal starting with a blank slate? This is given unlimited budget.

The 3rd part part is what build, if it is possible, combines these 2 goals most efficiently?

4th and bonus question, if these 2 things can be achieved, what is the next smart move on the build? Softcapping more defense?

Thank you in advance for any help in rehabilitating this old main of mine. He does not deserve to be shelved just because a lack of any respecs left. But when I slam all this stuff on it has to be perfect.

    Smash vs Lethal

This topic just came up on the Brute boards. How is everyone's experience Scrapper wise with the difference between Smash/Lethal damage. Either one "feel" strongerr than the other, especially in the all new all 50 world?

Mostly since I just spent 3 billion getting 5% more recharge on a build lol. But that wall has been climbed, and i am on to other thoughts. I am currently re-examining my love for SS/Will, and am actually thinking of enhancing it in the "standard" manner of soft-capping def. I am sad that i cannot use my old main for this project, but he is "respec-gimped". I have a new 50 for the purposes, but sure doesnt feel the same. Also, need to do all the accolades on him. But at least he has all my Vet respecs in case something goes horribly awry.

good point about the smashing vs lethal though. I thought the game had them more separate than we see in most of our builds. just didnt realize it favored characters using smashing over lethal.

another point is the arcs and max targets on the cone attacks for Mace vs Axe. i believe that on these 2 cone or arc attacks Mace has larger arcs and has a larger max target cap. and more is more after all.
  20. Mace seems to do better, slightly more targets, etc. But I think Lethal is very slightly less resisted in game than smashing. Not sure, but I thought I read it somewhere. I know we are used to seeing smashing/lethal mixed in our sets/bonuses, but they are in fact different.

    Taunt and i19

I squeezed taunt, fly, and hasten onto my main. Wow. My build is recharge heavy, and I love Hasten, of course. Fly is useful, (thankfully no more jet pack vendor), and will be great on Master attempts.

What i was surprised about was how great Taunt works. Even when soloing. with the range debuff in it it makes a noticeable difference. Maybe this is only for some brutes, but I am Dark/Invul. i nedd the mobs tight on me for defense and for my power Boost Radial AoE. I LOVE TAUNT. Now just need to decide to put a range or a taunt effect enhacer in it, I am thinking range.
  22. Thank you, that answers my question quite authoritatively everyone. i suspected some of what you said, but it is nice to get the exact information, filtered by people with actual play knowledge. i may have even learned a few things, hope I retain it.

It looks like for me I will concentrate on a Dark/Invul when I want a Tank. I actually have a Dark/Invul as a Brute which is my main. He is built for recharge, which i already know is not "optimal", but I have my reasons, i have tons of fun, and i love it. But for those times when i really, truly, want to hold damage for the team I will think about this build for tanking, built to softcap Defense with 1 in range, and then just cramming whatever other bonuses fit in easily. Maybe look for a guide when i'm ready. Again, thanks.

    Taunt and i19

With the access to Blueside Epic pools you might have some nice new options open to you.
  24. Theft of essence Proc is a lot cheaper than Panacea, works just as well. Cash out that one and redo a whole toon with the cash.
  25. I weant to know about Defense and Resistance for Tanks. I have read the excellent treatise on defense that is on the boards. It just confuses me when I then look at the entire Tank arch type.

My issue is this, Tanks are best at resistances. and have the highest caps there of any AT. But building for defense makes more sense on any arch type. Brutes (or Scrappers!) can soft-cap defense. which means that a Scrapper is as tough as a Tank 98% of the time (except for debuffers, certain specials, etc) yet Scrappers do much more damage than Tanks.

It's like the Devs made a whole arch-type built around the color Red. (only you get this much red, you get more red saturation than any other arch type), then when designing the actual for the engine for the game were like "Red, huh, that aint so useful, F it"

So, do Tanks get significantly more Defenses at least on the Defense based Tank armor sets, or is that like microscopically more than Brutes and Scrappers get to build off of?
