At 27, and liking it. I have a few days away from the game for a long weekend. (Erotic Ball in Portland :-O ) I will think about whether I am really enamored of this.
As it is I am ready to throw a ton of enhancers into it to see how it rides. Could this be the replacement to my go-to set of SS Brutes? Very possibly.
Is it end hungry, or am I just asking too much? On a willpower build, all StJ/Will powers, no taunt, Fighting Punch + 1st toggle, 2 Enh End in Will's stamina, still breathing hard too often. This should fix when i throw in some procs, right?
Liking the animations. Overall they feel quicker than SS. Like the sm AoE kicks, stylish. Not sure if I will miss the giant area on FS, thinking maybe. Loving the damage, of course. -
I've never seen a stuck AV, and I do not want to make a suggestion that has game unbalancing implications ( I can see the possibilities for abuse, can only imagine what a clever gamer could do with that...). So, wormhole like that affects everything not AV. Just have to make sure it can target anybody stuck in a wall.
And maybe combining Rodions feedback, the thing becomes a variation of /unstuck, it sort of randomly spits the poor stuck fool out?
further revised, have it have the same long activate as Pocket D pass or long range TP, so to further discourage it being used to unbalance the game. I guess you could still use it to mess with a sapper every 3 days, but I would personally save it for that (all too regular) stuck mob. -
Okay, I know this isn't the perfect forum for this, but you guys are pretty vocal, and I wanted to get the idea trimmed into a workable thing before I post it "for real."
We all know the recurring problem of the one stuck mob. It ruins certain task forces (like ITF, DFB, etc.) or any kill alls where this happens. Now, I have been able to un-stick one at least once (I remember this specifically) using "wormhole" from my grav dom. I think TP other works as well. sometimes AoE seems to work, other times not. I am unsure if TP other or Wormhole works all the time or not. (One of the reasons I'm asking for help.)
So, here is my idea. Everybody (Except for free to play, heh) No, everybody. they all get a power, usable once every 3 days, or once a day. (The idea is a continuation of the once every 3 days auto complete theory) It allows you to TP enemy. 1 use, every day or 3. And using the mechanics of wormhole or TP other allows you to bring that stuck mob back to the killing floor.
Okay, rip it apart. -
Thx for the very good technical run downs folks. I will get the power suplly and card listed above nd either have my friend the engineer put it in (prob not, he a grump) or the guy I know that runs a comp business, or a very good friend who is 3 hours away who can build comps. But after all the above talk I'm not touching it myself. Now, if you need some math, accounting, research, decision making done, I'm your guy. Touching little fragile parts and not breaking things, no way. Even when I paint/draw its with big bold sweeping motions lol.

i spent a litle over 250 mil on the only character of mine to ever get it. Then the danged thing was a little buggy. I could open it once, but if i walked away and tried to reopen the crafting menu the annoying little thing wouldnt respond. Put me off the whole deal.

Tyger, if you are really trying to make a point , I do not understand it. Your comparison makes no sense. I took a common phrase in the english language. It could have been "Mud flats" Now suppose someone did a sketch about a black blues charafcter from the 1800s called "Mudy Flats" cool. Then, in making my stone Armor Tanker I liked the english phrase "Mud Flats", used it for inspiration, and called my character "Mud Flatner" According to your logic, no matter that I never read the Mudy Flats blues fiction, I am automatically copying some writer's work. Or perhaps you would argue I ripping off Star Trek because Flatner is too close to Shatner? This thread was better off dead.

*Name: Ultra Super Force
*Currently Recruiting: accepting new members,
RP Level: RP-friendly. I do a lot of RP in RL. In game I am busy doing TFs/running SGs/etc, I try to "stay in character" at least in attitude, but generally am using non RP writing. If i'm around folks deep in RP I may make a comment IC, but generally just hang.
PvP Level: none, maybe some for badges
*Theme/Concept: SG is started by "Buk Nasty", who has been trying to get into Longbow for a couple years and keeps failing out due to his scrapper-lock attitude. Therefore he started this group, to pursue vigilante justice
*Activity: Brand new SG, started last night (end of October). I have run active SGs on liberty (how many can say that?), Freedom, and virtue in the past.
Requirements for Membership: No requirements initially. As the roster fills there preference will be made for active players. (If you joined, played one day and were inactive for a month, you'll prob get dumped when the roster fills.) SG mode is not required...however, the only way I can easily determine your activity level is by prestige earned. Preference for an active roster is the only decision on who stays/who goes. (in a best case scenario...trolls get the boot)
*Leadership: Buk Nasty
*In-Game Contact(s): @Snarky
*Out-of-Game Contact(s): Blue Centurion
URL: none currently
Coalition(s): We started a coalition with an active SG last night. I have a line on a very quality SG to coalie with (master badge hunters) . I am looking for a group of like minded, vigilante SGs (and or just good quality active SGs) to coalie with.
Other Details: Base is nothing right now. We will be working on this asap. I tend to favor a very efficient "TP base." 2 rooms, all porters in those rooms, aligned by map level. Very easy to get where you need to go. This will take a bit of prestige, of course. -
I've never played a shielder, for various reasons. But look careful at the powers. Some have defense debuff resistance you need for late game play.
good luck. -
Quote:You do not seem to understand why characters are generic'd. Please read the above thread. There was quite a few interesting points made about copyright and trademark law from people who seemed to know what they are talking about.Doesn't matter. Changing or adding/subtracting 1 letter isn't going to protect you from getting genericed if petitioned. If a GM decides it's a violation it's gone.
The GM's can also see how many times a player has had to have characters genericed. That way they can deal with repeat offenders with harsher penalties than a simple forced renaming.
In regards to my original issue, Zerg, it was approved by the GMs as fine. I do not want to do anything to put the game at risk. That is why I petitioned them.
I sincerely doubt Dave Chappelle is going to sue CoH over this. In fact, if I thought I had half a chance of getting a response I would write him about it. But I am sure the whole issue would confuse/bore him if he even read it. However, if he wanted to sue he would not have a case, as my poor understanding of these things stand. You see, he had a character in a skit comedy. This is a super hero. The characters/backstory resemble each other insomuch as they are both portraying individuals with two arms/two legs/one head interacting with other creatures with two arms/two legs/one head. "Buck Nasty" was a term in the urban lexicon long before Mr. Chappelle's writers used it, and the Chappelle show has no inherent right to ban anyone else from ever making a pun on the phrase. Based on my conversation with the senior GM and a careful read of the above thread I will not be petitioning this name. I feel it is a waste of GM time. If you feel the need to I guess you will.
p.s., I have never had a single character gen'd in 4 years in the game. (and I alt a lot) -
I am recruiting for a new supergroup on Virtue. I have successfully run SGs on Liberty (my first, who knew it was a dead server back then? lol) and multiple times on Freedom.
This is a brand new SG, and has nothing going for it except my first coalition with an established (active) group. I will be establishing at least one more coalition with a very good group of Master badge runners.
the theme of the group is a Vigilante force. The character I am running as the main has been trying to get into Longbow, and keeps failing out because of attitude problems. Guy desperately want to be a hero, but gets scrapper lock and has no impulse control. So he started this group to work towards defeating villains, in any way possible.
I am looking for any assistance to get this up and running. Any characters that want to join are welcome. Also, i am looking for good coalitions of active players. I am a pretty even handed SG leader, and really just go through the roster once it fills trying to keep it fresh and active. I am a good base builder, although I have seen much better, my designs tend to the ultra efficient. I can cram every porter for blueside into 2 rooms. I rarely see it done, and am always confused why no one else does it. So easy, so much lesss confusing than most designs. Course, all this takes prestige, and we all know that dont transfer, sigh.
Again, the group is Ultra Super Force. My global is @Snarky. The SG is led by a toon named "Buk Nasty"
Any tips, tricks, recruits, coalitions, donations (immediately converted to Prestige!) are appreciated. -
Quote:I agree 100%. Anybody that wants to can sit down and easily come up wit strategies to make very easy 10s of millions, and somewhat easily hundreds of millions in short (relatively) periods of time. Some do. While most of us spend a large majority of out time in game fighting or hunting badges, these folks are marketeering like that was why the game was created. Some have gotten so good they are making an actual effort to destroy as much inf as possible. i have seen it, and the amount they destroy is truly amazing. The equivalent of watching someone burn stacks of hundred dollar bills to keep the stove lit all winter. The only reason there are only a handful of people in this game who are multi-billionaires is because there's apparently only a handful of people who are bothering to figure out how to make multi-billions of Influence. It's not that hard, but it does take some effort and knowledge.

I paint, I paint original works. Has something like it never existed before? I wish. I play guitar and make up songs, original stuff. Is most of it based on 12 bar progressions you will find in most western songs in one of the 12 keys? My, yes. I have written a book (unpublished). Is it basically one of the 7 plot lines that exist. Oh, my yes. Worse, it's a vampire novel. (I know, right?)
Do I take one of Picasso's works and paint by number over a copy of it? Hmmm, no.
Do I take a Stones song, put it in a different key, change the words and say it's a new work. Hmmm, no.
Do I take Ann Rice's novel, change the character names, put it in California, and call it a fresh piece. Nope.
Did I ever say that I did? Nope.
Did I say creativity is dead? Only if you do not understand sarcasm.
Take my character Buk Nasty, a fine new character. (Buck Nasty is in the urban dictionary, and "Buc Nasty is a character from the Chappelle show)
My character is a mutant (or thinks he is. In actuality he belongs to a family of ultra powerful individuals in a 2 decades running campaign my wife runs, just a little something she's been working on.)
Buk is a huge white guy with red hair. (Please contrast with the Chappelle character) Buk has been trying to get into Longbow since his early teens. He keeps flunking out because he has a bad attitude and impulse control issues. His uniform is derivative of Longbow. A parody if you will.
Buk desperately wants to be a Hero and be on the side of all thats good. Unfortunately he's got a bad case of scrapper lock thats about one taunt away from jumping out all the time. He has started a super group. The Ultra Super Force.
This is a poor little character concept I put together in about an hour or threes bumbling around with concepts. I could not get the name "Buck Nasty" out of my head for 3 days. Had to do something with it. I know this is no Picasso level of creativity. But it is in no way an exact copy of anything that I know of. I did not Xerox "Wolverine", or "Buc Nasty".
ps, can I use Xerox, or should I have said copy? -
I fast leveled this guy from 1-20 last night. I stopped to do bank missions for the accolade, and the coolio temps. This also gave me a chance to do a little testing on him.
Now, I was not too happy with him most of the night. Trying to get that finisher lined up was annoying. Most of the teaming was sewer runs, and by the time the finisher came up I was looking for a target, trying not to waste it. The whole thing threw my rhythm off, and of course my DPS was down, and I knew it. Then I get into a mission where Im trying to find a Tsoo boss in a bldg. One of the rare ones with not a very defined "end room" but a circle of rooms and boss in one of those. Now I am just running to the end of all these trying to get my banks done. Anyways, I know the boss is there, saw his text, cant find him. Ended up dragging the whole floor of Tsoo after me. They corner me and we go at it. Those fools. They closed en masse. Those close AoEs on this set are wicked. Very fun.
After posting this thread (about the same time) I started watching my crits closely. They happen, and they happen on Lts. Havent fought a ton of bosses yet.
After that i relaxed a bit more on the trials, didnt try to get the combo system worked everytime, feathered in sands of mu and the vet ranged if that was called for. Still mostly grinding my StJ attacks when they are up, but a lot looser. Felt better. I realized one of the frustrating things were that things die so fast. (I'm coming of a lot of Brutes) That makes it hard to make the combo. That does not seem that bad a thing lol. Also, doing the level 20 bank mission I was able to fight slightly tougher groups. The set is very nice against small mobs. Init Strike, Hvy Blow, Rib Crack, Spin Stk, Rib crack, Init Strike, Hvy Blow, Sweep Cross. 3 pops Aoe finisher, 3 pops sm Aoe finisher. Feels pretty good right now. I know the AoEs are pretty small, but the graphics do look wicked. Overall I am not unhappy. Still need to run it for a week or two before I fall in or out of love.
I'll probably get him to around 30 tonight. Then I am off for a Halloween madness weekend. -
I have only been running Street Justice for a couple hours, but not noticing a lot of crits. I opened the power and only 5% chance to crit minions listed in first 4 attacks. Is the Street Justice crit chance gimped compared to all other scrapper primaries???

Quote:I especially like how you assume I would be patronizing in a business meeting. All of us sitting around the development table, the tech guys explaining the problem carefully, and then me leaning over, patting them on their arm, "its okay you don't know how to do it Rob, we'll see if we can't figure this one out for you, you poor thing." roflmao. You have something like this happen to you Cap?'Cause patronizing your technical people when you don't understand the problems they're up against trying to fulfill your clueless edicts is clearly the best strategy for leveraging your development assets. They teach that in all the best business administration programs.
Seriously though. When you are in an industry where real money (the money the business makes to pay everybody) is being hampered by a technical wall, you solve the wall. without being condescending, you need to dial everybody, your boss, your team, the IT guys, and outside resources into solving the problem. Now. Sorry if anyone's feeling get hurt, really, but there is money to be made.
Having said that, I mostly agree with the other conversation going on in this thread about the Devs being conservative about raising the inf cap. And in truth, the cap probably regularly affects 1% player base, and occasionally affects possibly 20%. (theres another management guestimation for you, please do get all wound up now) -
my 2 inf. Dark Melee thrives on high recharge. So does Regen. If you plan on I/Oing the build (Invention Origin enhancers) then you should consider lots of recharge. (Hasten power helps). The synergy between the two at high recharge levels will make you insanely tough. Regen will always have a problem with huge damage spikes, but on a high recharge build they even get some plannable and regular brief respites from that.

If I took that seriously I would be crushed. Luckily, I don't give a (rhymes w/ blap)!!!
Rough, have you ever done any arts? Writing, drawing, painting, playing music?
For writing, there are only seven plots.
For music, 75% of western music is a variation of the exact song. If there are extended bridges or codas, they are pretty much derivative of something else that's been done before.
For painting, unless your are Picasso, you are also going to struggle to be original. although, to be fair, he created approx 10,000 works of art in his life and only invented like 7 genres. Kind of weak.
So yeah, I am inspired, copy, call it what you like. Glad to hear you never do, get over your genius self. -
That looks real good. From my stripping of the tank I have 95% of these sitting in my storage base. Somewhere I used my 5th set of KC, but I can come up with another or find where i put it lol. thanks for posting this. Its a great starting point, should be able to light tank, and scrap like a wet cat.

Quote:Ya, it is. One of the reasons I threw it in here. Since the thread is now on zed time anyways. Thought this would be on topic.Wait, Isn't "Buck Nasty" a character from the Playa Hater's Ball on the Chapelle Show? If so then I wouldn't be surprised if someone petitioned it.
So, if (as is true) the name has been used in a TV show is it automatic bad? Notably, the term was in general usage before the show, and it is definitely not used by a superhero/villain. I was going to post another term here, then realized I might use it as a character name lol. Same thing, common expression, only this one (to my knowledge) has never been used in a TV sketch comedy show.
Now, if I made up ("A pimp named Slickback" - you have to say the whole thing.) I could see where it would be a problem, since that is very specifically a character from Boondocks. -
maybe i am misunderstanding? i thought if you paid for 1200 pts (15 hard earned dollars) you got 1 reward token? i paid 15 dollars last night, in one transaction, but did not get 1 reward token. are you saying if you get a monthly reward token you do not get a reward token for spending 15 dollars?
-
Thanks Errant. Good insights. So recharge isnt going to help that much, and click heavy secondaries actually make things worse. So, that rules out Regen. For my concept that leaves Willpower and Invulnerability.
How end hungry is Street Justice? I am used to running Invul with Super Strength, and that can be challenging to keep going, especially with rage crashes.
I kind of want the ease of Willpower, and am leaning in that direction. Even if I can't softcap defense, I'm pretty sure a good amount of Defense will only help the whole thing. Also, may take the build in a different direction.
Ach, i just read Obitus' thread. I appreciate all the work. After my head stopped spinning and i followed the thread for some of my questions (asked, answered, re-asked, clarified, all by other posters thankfully) I have decided to quite definitely do a Street Justice / Willpower build with an emphasis on +def heading to softcap. The character concept is basically the Tank that was gonna be my main until I got so irritated at the Itrials I quit the game for months. This will be a good resurrection of the character.
Now, does anybody have a good build made up to softcap StJ/will or at least get close laying around.....? -
as i understand it there is a way the game records your inf that has some weird register and it would be difficult to raise that. Someone explained it in great detail in another thread. I work in management. when programmers say stuff like this to me in my industry I'm like. Okay, it's hard to do that with one, you hit a magical wall. Make two, add them together, or give the one account the ability to access pocket A for 2 bill, pocket B for 2 bill. as clever as programmers are they get stuck in their coding and formulas and sometimes have a real hard time thinking outside the box.
-
Okay, as long as the thread isn't dead (She's dead Jim) I'll throw this out there. Not sure I want to run this, but I saved the name on a server in case. Anybody see any issues with "Buck Nasty?"
