Concept Character

Heya Scrappers,

I had a couple of quick questions.
For my next character I'm thinking of a Castle Crasher theme. Basically a guy decked out in medieval armor with a big ol' sword and a big ol' shield boasting many pretty colors.
I don't have an end game build seeing as how I haven't even created the character yet. Instead, I only have basic power selections.
But on to the question. Would this build be viable for end game play both solo and for teams? I'm not looking to do any crazy scrapper tricks or break any records, I just want an all around fun character that doesn't fall too far behind in numbers.

So here is the first build. Any comments, or suggestions would be great. Maybe even some end game advice as well.

The other option would be to go Mu and follow the electric crasher's theme.

Thanks in advance!

Not much of an expert on scrappers, but i played a shield tank up to 50. The only thing i can say for now is that i would never skip One with the Shield. The power itself is good and you can slot an aegis set in it for good AoE defense,or even a steadfast protection +3% defense.

I've never played a shielder, for various reasons. But look careful at the powers. Some have defense debuff resistance you need for late game play.

good luck.

I haven't played a lot with Shield characters, but I've had a Broadsword Scrapper since I2 or 3. Whenever I deleted my original character (an NRG/NRG Blaster). And honestly, you may want to consider War Mace. My Scrapper is fun, and Broadsword is certainly a functional set, but it tends to get outpaced damage-wise by the other sets in late game content. War Mace has some better mitigation in the form of knockdown and disorient, and also deals smashing rather than lethal damage. Smashing is a bit less often resisted than lethal.

What it comes down to is what is fun for you? A Broadsword is a bit more defensive as it has Parry, but suffers from somewhat lower damage (especially AoE due to Crowd Control's awesomeness). Take whatever fits your concept.

As far as your actual build goes, I can't load it into Mids at the moment. But, in general you should aim to softcap Melee/Ranged. AoE would be a bonus, but isn't necessary. Do that, and make sure you have good recharge and damage. That'll be a fun build to play. Perfect? Probably not, but as you said you aren't looking to break records.

Building into fireball isn't really that viable on a BS character due to redraw. Due to the highish endurance cost of the attacks you're better off going into body mastery for extra regen/recovery. You already have 2 cones and 2 PBAoEs with a BS/SD character, you won't be really missing out on much without fireball.
Grant Cover is a power you'd want for the -def resist.

BS's damage is lowish compared to Warmace or Battleaxe, but what is has is Parry, which, if you don't have a very high budget, helps you cover a huge amount of melee defense, which is arguably the most expensive part to softcap.

I went into Mids' and found this very easy to do with Slice and Spring Attack added. Five sets of Mako's Bite and five of Obliteration and you're almost there without adding any slots to the actual Defense powers.

I also changed Blaze Mastery for Body, not only for the Recovery, but because there were just too many attacks. Fire may be an important part of the OP's concept, though. I'm sure something reasonable could be worked out.

Also, I dropped Hasten and Stealth. I didn't see a need for Hasten, and generally I prefer a Stealth IO to the power itself.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

The only conceivable use for Hasten would be to get the shield attack back up more often, but if you added Spring Attack then alternating them should work just as well. Stealth as a power is virtually useless except as a LotG +recharge mule. There are plenty of temp powers and/or IOs that can replace it.

Hasten's other use could be for stacking AD for lovely DDR.
