Somewhere I read that the original idea for Superboy Prime was going to be that he would join the Legion of Super Heroes at the end of Crisis and stay in the 30th Century. I really wish that had been done as that would have been neat-- especially as Prime was written as being a comic book fan. It would have been interesting if they had played on that approach to him: the fan dealing with the heroes he had read about in comics as "real" people.
How would he react the first time he got hurt in battle facing Validus? How would he handle living up the legend that Earth One Kal-El had established in the 30th Century? So much potential wasted ...
And you know, there's one thing about Prime that keeps coming back to me as a fan ...
He read comics. He's read about heroes dying and coming back to life all the time.
In his place, would it feel like murder to kill someone if you know that it could all be undone by the editorial edict? -
Thanks for all the hard work, Castle! Hope you experience all kinds of success in your future endeavors!

Oh man another good one done today...
They even made Statesman likable! -
This is the second time I've had this happen.
I was doing a Tip Mission where my allies of the moment are supposed to turn on me and attack me, but they don't when I'm playing a stalker ... and I can't attack them either.
Happened with Shock Treatment earlier and on a mission with BP Totems today. Has anyone else had this happen?
Only happens on stalkers for me. -
I'm working today on bringing a Stalker from Rogue to Hero. I am loving the Tips missions I am getting today. It's not "Oh in the Rogue Isles I decided doing everything for money and now that I'm in Paragon I'm doing it for pure altruism ..." It's "I'm still out for number one but I'm learning that there are things I WON'T do and maybe I'm changing ..."
I want to buy whoever wrote the Polar Shift and "Fake Rescue" Tip missions a drink! I had SOOOOO much fun doing them. -
Actually, Cole was born in the late 19th Century I think. At least Primal Cole served in World War I along with Stefan Richter.
-
Great picture!
I just wish that Clockwork King was in there looking hopefully at Penny with a couple of oscillators holding mistletoe over his head. -
Quote:I just read the Paragon Wiki about Wu Yin and Vanessa Devore. It says that Wu Yin came to Paragon in the 1980s, and was born in the 1960s. Vanessa found her mask in 2000 when she's described as being a young art history graduate student which would place her as being probably 22 plus years old in 2000. Hero 1 told me in a PM that Penelope is a freshman in college ... which puts her at 18 assuming she didn't graduate early.or, you know. The nine months of pregnancy, the who knows how many hours of labor, having been in a relationship with Wu Yin at all, that sort of thing...
I think I asked that question in 2008, so let's assume that Penny was born in 1990 or thereabouts ....
Hm. Maybe the reason that Wu doesn't talk about Penny's mother is because she was jailbait at the time ... -
Don't see a lot of Spines Scrappers anymore. I have one that's Spines/Regen which kind of petered out for me around 26. Just didn't seem that good a set to me at the time.
Anyone have a suggestion of what might work with Spines better than Regen? -
My pet theory used to be that Penny was actually the daughter or granddaughter of Sister Psyche.
It'd be interesting what would happen if Vanessa found out that Penny was her daughter. You'd think she'd definitely hear of such a powerful psychic .... -
Like I said earlier, Rad, very good story.

I enjoy teaming with people when I am in the mood for teaming.
I do not enjoy having to ask for help when I am soloing because that means that my friends are either not on or playing on other servers. I don't like having to ask for help because there's no guarantee that I will be able to find that help when I need it.
So long as they make every mish that needs a team auto completable I would have no problems with some enemies being too tough to solo.
That being said, I was pretty annoyed earlier today when I was soloing my Patron Arc on my Crab Soldier and could neither take down Lord Recluse or auto complete the mission. -
So far he's not been too hard for me ... my few low damage toons I've done it with had help to take him down. My Elec/Elec Scrapper was having the most trouble with him until I decided to just ignore his clones and work on outdamaging the Regen ... which is something that Scrapper was able to do. (Chasing his dupes didn't work because he was regenning too much by the time I found it and killed it.)

Got an email a few days ago about a software program that is letting people play some games using voice commands. COH Wasn't listed as being one of the games that would work with it, so I don't imagine it would function with our game.
But I was curious: would you use it if it were? -
The only thing I considered it useful for would be to slot in some IO set or maybe to take care of stuck enemies.
Wish we could get auto turret instead. -
Is that power worth taking for a Traps/Sonic Defender? (OR any Traps for that matter.)

Quote:My experience differs, especially with creative endeavors.
I mean, absolutely, they can be the scum of the earth ("vile people", as you put it), but when there's an energetic atmosphere of genuine enthusiasm for the work, the product and the consumers... businesses can flourish in ways that stale uncaring companies cannot (it generally depends on the type of business).
Now, of course, enthusiasm can come in other forms... However, when a company cares about and enjoys their consumers (and it shows), there is a mutual feedback of positivity that flows and can improve both the product and the community/buzz surrounding the product. Especially so in the entertainment business, which this is.
That positivity works both ways.
And one of the ways that CoH has managed to encourage this positivity has been through their fun-loving and open involvement with the community. If that were nonexistent, even you may notice the results in the game itself, eventually.
For the record... I'm not saying nor thinking that CoH is moving away from this type of behavior/mindset.
I'm just a fan of businesses that maintain that human element.
The regurgitated line, "Nothing personal, it's just business" is a thing of corporate deception that couldn't be anything farther from the truth. It doesn't get much more personal than business.
One of the greatest strengths that COX has had has been the loyalty of its fanbase. I think part of what has engendered that has been the relatively open and friendly nature of the developers. I think that paid off for them in terms of the amount of player retention this game has had.
It would be a sad thing if that was lost. -
I am pondering a respec for my Elec/Elec Brute to take advantage of Inherent Fitness.
I skipped the Patron Powers on him on the way for 50 because there were other powers I wanted to take for him. (Primarily because I felt like I needed Tough so I lost two powers there that would have gone to Patron Powers.)
I don't intend to change my slotting. He uses Super Speed as his travel power.
Right now, I'm leaning towards taking Recall Friend (useful for tping teammates who either don't have a travel power or who might not be able to survive the mobs that my Brute could if we decide to skip the enemies in between and run straight to the boss), and the Flight Path (probably Air Superiority to knock down enemies out of the sky and flight for those enemies who I can't reach from the ground).
However, I thought it might be prudent before the respec if I asked if there were any Patron Powers that would be useful with just one slot in them.)
So, yes? No? Maybe? -
I'd like it and I'd be willing to pay up to $4.99 for it as it seems to me the amount of work would be equal to what other apps for that price would require.
Really, I wish our Devs would come up with more Apps-- for all Smartphones/Pads, etc-- just because I think it might be a fairly easy way to garner some publicity for the game.
Heck, if they could find a way to release a standalone version for the costume creator that'd rock! -
This may be a weird question that most people never think about, but one of the things that I really hate when I respec a toon is that my tray gets all mixed up. I've tried various combinations of print screen to get an image of the tray made before I do the respec, but I'm not having any luck with it.
What do I need to do to get a screenie showing my power tray selection before I do a respec? I.e., what keys do I need to be hitting that I'm not? -
Other than Radiation, what would you say is the best Powerset to have along to tackle an AV on a Task Force?

Quote:Blue Battler (the very first one) is an Assault Rifle/Fire Blaster. I used to tell my teammates not to worry because he was armed with magic bullets that only hurt bad guys. No, no! It's fire, all right, but it's Friendly Fire! It has a special component that detects evil and only harms those with actual evil intent, and even then it only amounts to a mild slap on the wrist. If it hits someone who is good it turns into Healing Flames.

A lot of the stuff that people would have liked 7 years ago probably would not have been feasible given the time, financial, and technical resources they had available to them. That being said, here's what I would have striven to do:
1. Power customization at the start.
2. 1 free inherent travel power with the option to pick others using a power pick. (One of the best selling points this game has is travel powers.)
3. There should be nothing inherently villainous about a Dominator or heroic about a Controller, so I think all ATs should have had access to both Redside/Blueside at creation.
4. PVP. Either design the game with PVP at the start or leave it out entirely. To be honest, a lack of PVP was what drew me to the game in the first place, but I did have some friends who really loved to PVP. Trying to put it in later resulted in no end of trouble.
5. I would have put differing storylines on each server so a player would have an incentive to play on more than one. Fight to overthrow the Rikti yoke on Freedom! Be a villain working in the shadows in a world where the heroes have known Triumph and Arachnos is but a memory.... Maybe on Champion Statesman has been dead for decades and his daughter Miss Liberty stands as our shining inspiration ...
Oh, and I would have built in cross server teaming akin to the crossovers the Justice League/Justice Society used to have. -
Quote:Not really.Last time I checked, killing the enemy during a war was acceptable to any government.
Bizarre example for you to pick, don't you think?
Alien invasion or super villain running amuck, Superman and Batman don't kill. "Conventional" super heroes wouldn't be shown killing.
And it's not like Statesman is an active member of the US Government.
Now Emperor Cole on the other hand...
