Two things I'll say up front to the OP:
1) Nothing wrong with your play style. Works fine with some teams or players, not others, but that's THEIR play style talking. Have some respect for it. Especially if they're jerks about it. I'm one of those odd people that likes being obnoxiously polite to jerks. Amusement often ensues.
2) I tend to have 2 different play styles with buff MMs. a) Buff my pets, and trust my team mates to have a modicum of survival instinct, and b) buff my team mates to the exclusion of my pets which are, after all, easier to replace mid-fight.
When first being added to a team, I'll typically ask something along the lines of "Do you guys want me to buff you all instead of my pets, or do you know what you're doing?" Astute observers will note that "both" is not an option. Don't allow them to assume it is. More often than not, I end up doing option b (my preference), at their behest.
And if another MM on the team wants you to buff him and/or HIS pets... laugh... a lot... -
Thought it had something to do with reducing the IQ drain of daytime television.
No, wait... that's Grammy Resistance. -
I'd also suggest test-plying new characters on different servers. If you continue to see the same issue, it's much more likely that it is a local issue of some kind; PC, router, connection and/or ISP.
Re: Being told by the ISP that there are no issues, an ISP as a whole can also have issues connecting to certain sites and not necessarily realize it, since they don't have an easy way of seeing if they can connect to the ENTIRE internet at any given time. I used to work at a domain name and hosting service provider, and both Comcast and Cox would occasionally lose connection to us. Wasn't anything we could fix, we would just let them know and they'd generally get it straightened out in short order. Best way to test this: see if any other local CoH players with the same ISP are having similar issues.
Not likely, but possible. -
-
Couple of clarifying questions:
1) Has this been a long-standing issue with this character, or just tonight?
2) What type of mission is it? General content? Newspaper? Mayhem? Tip or Morality?
3) On the off chance that it's an issue with the mission itself, have you tried auto-completing it, or doing other missions?
4) I respect your desire to avoid saddling a team with your issue, but if you let them know "Hey, I've got this issue and might disconnect unexpectedly, can you help me try to finish this darn thing?" you might be pleasantly surprised at others' willingness to help. This game is generally cool that way. -
Quote:If you're referring to a game based on a well known sci-fi license, yes, that's why I don't go read those anymore, other than our fleet thread. If I may suggest hanging out on the forums of that other companies other game. The one based on a popular Sci-Fi genre. There's plenty of nerd rage and doom constantly being thrashed about over there.

Quote:I think you missed the "virtually" part. In any case, YOU do this. I do this. I can list on two fingers the number of OTHER people I know that do this. It's not common practice. In my experience, it's exceedingly rare. Not unheard of, just very, very rare. And I think I wouldn't be far off-base to say that, where it DOES occur, the compliments come from people who've "been there" 90+% of the time... because no one else even WANTS to understand.Actually, that's not true. When I started playing again after a two year long hiatus, I called in to have my password reset because I couldn't remember it.
I had a rather lovely conversation with a young man, who reset my password, and was very pleasant about it, and when it was all said and done I believe the words I used were...
"Thank you -so- much. -Bless you.- You guys are awesome."
I play Neverwinter Nights, and I built/run/host/DM my own server, so I know what it's like to not receive praise, so I make sure to give it out whenever I can to folks who I think deserve it.
But I keep trying... -
-
Quote:Hence my tongue-in-cheek response to that, specifically. Twice. The compensation comments were ... jokes.
At least, that's how I took them, and that's certainly how I intended mine to be taken.
Quote:Also... Really... if you don't want to see people complaining, then honey, in all honesty, no one's holding a gun to your head and telling you to read the topic. :P
My underlying issue here is that I understand what the devs are trying to do, what kind of system they're having to maintain... and how it feels when all they can see is people complaining. Believe me, virtually no one EVER calls them and says "Wow, you people are bloody awesome, and I really enjoy your product and appreciate the work you have to do to keep it going." And, having been an active forumite on other games, I'm also acutely (and personally) aware of how players who DO voice their appreciation are treated by the seething masses of nay-sayers. "Flamed... badly" comes to mind. Thankfully, the CoH community is a far cry from most, i.e. vastly more mature. But still...
Can't help it; whenever I see BIG complaints about LITTLE things, my knee-jerk reaction is to back the devs up... because I've been there. -
-
Quote:Your not the only one complaining, but my commentary wasn't meant strictly for you.Wow.
I'm not the only one complaining, firstly, so, really, this was unnecessary don't you agree?
Quote:Secondly, I just posted a little while ago that I only have a few days to be able to play before I'm away from the internet for a few weeks. So it's not like I have all that time to wait around.
Quote:Thirdly, if I pay for a service to be rendered and that service is in fact, -not- rendered, and I'm given absolutely no reason why or no explanation? Then because -my- hard earned money is being given up to be able to use this service, I, and everyone else who pays for the game, has every right in the world to complain. Bashing people for complaining when a service they are -paying for- is not being provided, and no explanation why is being offered, is really not fair.
As for wanting an explanation:
Quote:I can understand when a server needs to be down for maintenance. That's fine, all well and good. But for it to be down for now, two hours longer than they said it would be? That's a bit ridiculous in and of itself. But for it to be down for two hours longer than they said it would be, and -not provide us with a reason why-? That's downright silly.
Quote:Let people complain. They aren't hurting anyone, they're just blowing off steam.
*shrugs*I already know the answer to the question, but I'm still going to call people on it. -
-
Quote:They always give us a heads-up. The server maintenance time can ALWAYS take more time than expected. It's USUALLY less.lol yeah sadly first post is a complaint. more of a general inquiry. but either way, you would think they would of provided us with some kind of heads up or something.
And no, they're not obligated to tell us what the exact issue is (especially in the case of a server security issue). And no, they can't give us an ETA. Contrary to popular opinion, the cause of an issue isn't always blatantly obvious, so there is no way to know at the beginning how long it will a) take to isolate or b) fix. -
-
Quote:No, what's sad is the inevitable flood of sense-of-entitlement crying that oozes out of the woodwork when something like this happens.I still can't log in.
This is starting to become less frustrating and more sad.
Ask yourself: would you rather be locked out of the game for a couple of extra hours in a given month while they fix a possibly major issue, or suffer repeated crashes due to a problem they leave un-fixed? -
Quote:Or they could just refund us the lost time. Calculating 2 hours worth of the $14.99/month, assuming an average of 30 days, comes out to $0.0416.Hey whats up with this Down time, it's almost 1030 est, it's cutting into my paid time , so only fair thing to do would be give me an everyone a free month of game time lol.
I think I'll have them send me a check...
-
Quote:Don't hold your breath. Fixing in-game problems is always going to take priority over fixing the site or forums, or telling us there's a problem. If the server maintenence if going to take longer than scheduled, it sucks, but I can accept that it happens. However, not communicating it to us, and having the server status page be over a week out of date, that is not acceptable. They need to get on the ball with this.

Jay Leno was/is the "King of Comedy"?
Do I laugh in my sleep? No one's ever said anything about it... -
Actually, all official "run away" mechanics aside, the thing that irks me the MOST are the mobs who run away to suicide into the nearest drones. They've even run PAST me to do this on many occasions.
I don't mind "run away" NEARLY as much as I do "self-kill-steal". -
Have one of each type of MM on justice redside. I seem to have the most frequent problems with:
1) Necromancy pets
2) Zoning via Oro or ferry
I rarely have issues with mission maps. My zombies just get "stuck" at the zone-in point.
An important note: be sure to use the /releasepets command RATHER than simply dismissing them from the pet window. Every time I've done the latter, they disappear from the window, but are still standing there, preventing me from re-summoning. Many times, re-zoning again was the only way I could rectify at that point, and that was a dicey proposition at best, since I could have the same issue again in the new zone.
I have bugged this issue enough times to fill a roach motel. -
I laugh every time I see someone comment on how the Epic Archetypes don't feel "Epic" to them. Please, go look up the standard dictionary meaning of epic, rather that defaulting to the internet/mmo colloquialism of it.
epic - noun - 1. a long poem, typically one derived from ancient oral tradition, narrating the deeds and adventures of heroic or legendary figures or the history of a nation. 2. a long film, book, or other work portraying heroic deeds and adventures or covering an extended period of time.
"Epic" Archetypes are those that are fundamentally tied to the storyline of the game universe in question. Your Blaster or Mastermind (for example) could reasonably fit, story-wise, into a great many other settings. The HEATs and VEATs in CoH BELONG here, more than any of your other rather generic characters ever will. They are part of the CoH epic. -
Quote:Bah, it's easier to work on that "Hate the Devs for Hating Players" badge.Actually, them changing their minds about something they adamantly opposed at one point means they are capable about changing their mind about other things as well. I do like this whole 'my way or the highway' thing you have going, though. Different opinions? NOT IN MY GAME, SIR.
-
Same at the tailor. That was where I first encountered this: trying to update the main costume on an existing VEAT. Then tried to create a new one with the new auras - same issue.
