  1. I recently rolled a fire/fire brute. I am well aware that /fire is probably the squishiest of all the brute secondaries but I do not want to be able to tank with it. I already have tank-like brutes and wanted something different.

I have already decided to go the hover/fly route (again I want something different, this is going to be my Wings toon). What I'm after is some general pointers really from people who have played fire/fire. There aren't any decent guides for this type of brute (a few for tanks but I don't want to play as a tank).

One thing I have noticed is a lack of Immob protection that has already caused me to faceplant a few times.

I really want to play this brute as a kind of scrapper (with fury giving me great damage). I'm going to grab most of the primaries, any pointers if any are really bad and should be avoided. Also, what is Rise of the Phoenix like? I'm expecting to die a fair bit so would see this as useful
  2. Masterminds are a pretty powerful AT as it is, you would have to go some to gimp one. I would play what feels right for you and not what is considered to be uber. If you like the feel of TA then I say go for it.

    Yes doms need a boost.

Whether solo or in a team - or PvE or PvP, there is no way assault secondary is equal to controller secondaries.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If the assualt secondary did say corruptor damage, anyone think this would be too powerful?
  4. Take care LP. It's been great fun teaming with you on the dom nights, i'm sure we are all going to miss the chaos you seem to bring with you at 8:00. Hope the degree goes well and that we see you again in the not too distant future.
  5. I can't make saturday evening. Good luck with it anyway

As Inv, your taunt aura will be one of your main sources of defence anyway, as well as providing an accuracy buff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm guessing the acc buff will stack nicely with rage? If so, and bearing in mind rage can be almost perma, how many acc SOs should I slot in my attacks?
  7. [ QUOTE ]
As it happens, Inv isn't all that far off EA anyway... it's got some great res early on but later in your career you'll be tanking mainly on your defence.

Just remember you want to hit, taunt, and run around as many foes in the mob as possible. You want them all beating on you, all of the time. Don't skip handclap. By the time you've rage and footstomp you'll be tearing through them

    [/ QUOTE ]

That was pretty much how I played my Brute. Can someone explain Taunt Auras please? Oh, and is it worth picking up the fighting pool? I had them on my brute instead of PPPs and I find the extra resistance and defence to be nice, allowing me only to use Overload in the real panic situations.

THINK ABOUT HOW THE OTHER PERSON MAY TAKE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly right. If it is supposed to be harmless banter then take a few seconds to think how it may be percieved.
  9. As some of you know I have recently rerolled my main, a SS/EA Brute as a Tank. The Tank is Inv/SS (that's as close as I could get, Ice/ doesn''t suit my concept). I'm struggling to make the switch from Brute to Tank to be honest, they seem to play fairly different. Any tips from Tanker pro's will be greatly appreciated.

Worst I seen was something like "You x x, If I x knew where you lived I'd come round tou your house and kill you and your family with a x baseball bat". I heard the guy got banned and I havent seen him around so, yay!

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's one of the funny things about the internet. The guy was probably a weedy little 12 year old who would struggle to lift said baseball bat.

(no offense to any 12 year olds meant).

    Most people

There are millions more people on Union than Defiant, oh wait, that's Vigilance

For instance, "You fight like a cow"

    [/ QUOTE ]

I do fight like a cow

Again, I've tested Build Up + Fiery Embrace on an EM/Fire tanker and it works fantastically... just wasn't sure if you'd notice an extra 100% damage buff on a brute with a nearly full fury bar!

    [/ QUOTE ]

But great to use early in a fight when your fury is low.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
hi guys im stuck for my next brute, i dont want to use stone or inv cos i ave used then in previous high lvl chars, so its between fire armour or elec armour

may u giv me ur views cos im torn between them and it confusin the hell outta me

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't forget you can have Energy Aura and Dark Armour too
  15. I recently rerolled my main toon, Blind Minotaur, formerly a villain, now a Inv/SS tank. I haven't played CoH a great deal and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good SG?

I would like to join one that is active (to the extent where you can expect to see people on when you play ), has a base and does regular sg teams, tfs etc. And most importantly I would like a friendly SG, not a prestige farm.
  16. So in conclusion; Trollers have better Holds, Damage output and debuff capabilities than Doms? Hmmm...
  17. Blind_Minotaur

    Such a choice :)

Go for Energy/Rad if you team most of the time.

[/ QUOTE ]...Give me one thing energy does better than other primaries, apart for knockback?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is the knockback that you would choose it for. A good player uses the knockback to their advantage (as you no doubt know), solo KB can be the difference between planting and not, keeping that boss on his backside is priceless. In a team you can use the KB to know mobs back into your aoe debuffs. One thing I don't like are energies aoe's; I just don't find the KB uselful enough (maybe to buy yourself a few seconds, but that's it really).

It is a good combo, but takes skill.

If you can squeeze me into one of the runs it will be greatly appreciated. I have only had one go at this SF and we didn't get past the Freedom Phalanx. I am free Saturday but I am tryign to get the day off work on Friday.

    In case you don't know I am a lvl 50 SS/EA brute.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No work for me Friday

So Friday or Saturday is good for me.

Smoke is handy for getting close enough to get your imps on them without them alphaing you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I regularly use smoke for this too. It is also great to cast on nearby groups, you can get really close without them noticing you.

I was wondering if smoke would be useful on the RSF? It might make the pulling part easier, if the Heroes have -perception then it may be a lot easier to just pull one without the others noticing. Just a thought.
  21. Anyone tried out a Ninja/TA blastermind? I rolled on on the weekend but haven't tried it out yet. The plan is to take the pets purely to use as meat shields (constantly in BG mode). I want to try this out as you can't get TA in cov and I guess it will work as a weak defender, but with a lot more HP (coming from BG mode). Any thoughts?
  22. One thing I would like to say about AR. If you can team with a dom or someone with holds or immobs then Ignite is really very good. I regularly team my AR/Cold with a Dom and I use ignite ALL the time. In normal state of play a mob will just run away from it, but if they are held it does very good damage (and this is with /cold as a secondary), with /kin using siphon power and fulcrum shift the damage should be awsome, and the recharge is very fast.

I know Ignite isn't rated at all, but it really works for me. I tend to use Ignite and Flamethrower almost constantly (throwing in the odd M30 grenade and Full Auto). Definately worth considering IMO, especially if you plan to team.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
I was thinking of all the situations, I tooked invisibility so that I could be like a stalker with hide I know if I wanted that I should've made a stalker even though it is cool to play I've just never prefered close combat so why not just stealth most of the map? since stealth also has good defense and the slow debuff I was thinking I could topple that over with Siphon Speed...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Invis will be usefull, especially if you have decided to rely on Siphon Speed for your travel power, as it doesn't have any stealth element like Super Speed does.

One good thing about not taking the fitness pool or a travel power is you will have a lot more flexibility with the powers you can choose.
  24. Sooooo, any room for me on the team? Just let me know when and where you guys.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Because brutes weren't good enough! Right-oh, let's get down to business. Everyone on the all brute team died, and decided to make corrs. It was a great team, And a safe and fast playstyle. Hope to do it again with you all. Posted this thread to let everyone know it rocked, and for us to organise next one. I suggest sat/sun sometime. How's that sound? And anyone new want to join? We're all level 7/8 ish

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh and I'm guessing that once the Brutes had got to a high enough level to have their defense sorted they would have ripped through missions; anyone ever seen an eight brute team in action?
