I'm not sure if any of you guys remember me but I was the black guy in the black gothic lolita dress at PAX Prime 2011. Yeah, the one that pronounced Khledians wrong...
I hved moved on to Guild Wars 2 recently but City of Heroes has always been the game I've gone back to. Even with my time spent in traversing all the new and exciting things in Tyria, Paragon will always be my home.
In my opinion, I say go for the IP and screw the engine. Yes it will take years to start over from scratch but the game was showing its age long ago. It can be rebuilt faster, stronger and better than before. I would love to see it where costume pieces can have three color choices, heroes can swing from building to building, villain players can dynamically choose which evil deed to partake in and hero players and then given missions to stop them.
But no matter which way you decide to go, you have my support. I'll be watching for a kickstarter because I too want to know what the hell the Omega slot is! -
There is one thing I would like to add. Since Temporal Mending is a Heal-over-Time and heals break sleep, you can use this and then smack an Lost Boss to gain aggro. Their first attack is always an attempt to put you to sleep. The heal makes them waste it. Because you can get this power from character creation, it is a boom for the Death from Below trial.

I'm going to keep this simple. I believe that all characters should get 5 slots at 50 instead of 3. The reason being is any power chosen at 49 can only have 4 slots at most. This seems counterproductive to the idea that all powers are useful. The addition of 2 slots would allow every power to be fully slotted, regardless if it was chosen at character creation or 49.

I find this funny because I have Street Justice/Invulnerability Brute named Tsunderella. She runs around in the closest thing to gothic lolita that I could make, which includes the gunslinger hairbow. I'm presently trying to figure out which pose goes best with her slogan, "I'm not hitting on you because I like you!"

Transgression: Energy Melee/Dark Armor Brute
He's a Praetorian and was one of those guys that always dreamed of being female. He finally got the chance when a succubus switched bodies with him in order to avoid the Powers Division draft. Unfortunately, she didn't tell him that part. Once drafted, he -- now she -- quickly became the butt of every joke until she discovered her new body can turn negative emotions, her own and those directed at her, into pure, negative energy. Now she dares people to pick on her lifestyle change. If they're lucky, they'll live to regret it.
Brightsaber: Peacebringer
She was a supermodel until the Council tried to force her agency into laundering money. She was the only one to physically fight back and they quickly made an example out of her for it. Barely alive, she was locked up in one of many underground prisons along with everyone else that defied the Council. This included a young Khledian that they had been experimenting on. Unfortunately that Kheldian didn't survive the bonding process so Brightsaber can't change form but she was given more than enough power to level that particular base and several more like it. Now she stalks the dark corners, deep caverns and the very depths of Paragon city as a beacon of light and avenging blade.
Kiyomori: Katana/Willpower Scrapper
Kiyomori can't bend steel. She can't dodge bullets. She doesn't have a flashy alias or costume. In fact, she is a short, petite Japanese woman that and can barely speak English. Her only saving grace is that she's been studying swordsmanship ever since she was in diapers. Everyone, including Statesman, has told her that she'd never have what it takes to be a hero. However, now at security level 50 and with a shard of Bishamonten's soul within her, she has made her point quite clear. You don't need super powers to be a super hero. You only need the heart to do what's right and the willpower to follow your heart. -
To the op, I say ignore the nay-sayers. If nothing else, they have forgotten the true creed behind proposing new things - more options is always a good thing! I'm behind you 110% but I'm also not afraid to call this AT what it really is: a tankmage. A balanced tankmage! I'll post more of my thoughts on it when I come back from work.

I guess I'm the only one fronting the Kin love. My Main is a Kin/energy defender with the perfect superhero name: Mightshift. I had a love/hate relationship with her because she was so squishy and I had to cast speed boost on everyone individually. Now with the Incarnate system, at T3, Barrier stacks nicely with Maneuvers, Tough, Weave and Temporary Invulnerability. Add to that Speed Boost's new area effect and I turn superheroes into gods! Myself as well! Now I can do the indoor part of Lambda on my own. Just run into a crowd protecting a target, Fulcrum Shift and put out damage numbers that would make Blasters weep while having a Scrapper's defensive capabilities. As for BAF, I spam my buffs to the point that everyone is doing 300% damage on Siege and Nightstar while Transfusion keeps their regen down. The knockback from Energy Blasts helps a lot during the escape and I find that Siphon Speed's slow effect is very effective on commandos. If I upped my global recharge (which is basically 0) I could probably spam it on every commando that came my way.

The title says it all. If there isn't one already, I'm willing to make one. It seems to be one of the most well-rounded sets and I'm eager to see what a team and/or league full of Rads can do.

Quote:I wouldn't say Peacebringers are born with the power because that one in Atlas Park says he's the combination of a cop and a Kheldian Warrior, if I remember correctly. That would make him half alien at least and a totally new species at most. Either way, he's still not Natural. And I do understand you point about being one of the 5 origins even if you're not native to earth. However, this is about giving those whom don't fit in those 5 a sixth option. It was never meant to replace any of them.Natural basically means powers you're born with (Peacebringer) or you just have special training (Arachnos Soldier). Just because the source isn't native to your home planet or you're not native to ours doesn't mean you cannot be a natural/science/mutant/magic/tech origin. The Rikti themselves could all possibly fit under any of the origins we have in game, different from soldier to soldier. Mutant and Natural are the least likely to fit, since I'm not sure if they're born with psychic powers or not or if the Lost eventually turn into full Rikti. And yes, Magic does apply to a few Rikti. See the Rikti Magus.
Peacebringers are Natural because they're all born with those powers. Warshades are Science because they're scientifically converted Peacebringers. Rularuu is unclear since there's a ton we don't (or at least I don't) know about them. But, however they come about, one or more of the origins no doubt covers them.
What we do need to add are "Psionics". Sister Psyche, after all, claims to be one, so there's some canon grounding for it.
Also, I feel psionics clearly falls under Mutant by the very nature of Mutant's origin description:\; it's an abnormal ability that some people are born with or is triggered by an outside source. -
The way I see it is like this: Superman has powers because he is an alien. Now I know many of you would claim that his origin is Natural because all of his species (and some that are related) would have the same powers if they came within the light of a yellow sun. I would almost agree with that. The reason I don't is because yellow stars are "alien" to his species. I will admit that I don't know much about Superman's origin as the only DC series' I've follow are the Lanterns and that started slightly before Blackest Night. Still, it seems that if Superman were on Krypton, the original Krypton, he would be as normal as you and I. To further back up my theory, it's like Bill said in Kill Bill. Clark Kent is Superman's disguise, not the other way around. He's a hero pretending to be normal while other heroes are start out normal first and then put costumes on to portray their heroic side. That shows that he was never normal so Natural doesn't fit him.
As for how this relates to City of Heroes, we have Khledians everywhere, not to mention Rikti making what seems like hourly raids on Paragon City. The Rikti even have an alien mothership and a zone completely dedicated to it, not to mention an army whose sole purpose is to oppose them. And don't even get me started on every-"thing" that lives in Firebase Zulu. Aliens are in the game and their presence is very obvious. They should have their own origin.
An Alien origin would cover all beings that are foreign not only to the planet but to those that come from other dimensions. For Dual Origin enhancements, it could be mixed with Science and Technology; the two origins that are closest to it. For a starting power, toons could have an alien symbiote attached to their wrist that fires some sort of energy blast.
What do you guys think of this idea? -
The problem I have with this guide is the lack of info on other Defenders. You stress healers but I've found that a good shielder would work better. I've even been on a 4-man team where I was the only defender and a Trick Archer at that. I didn't need to heal because enemies could barely attack us and when they did, they often missed. The only significant change in sradegy we had to make is resting 30 to 45 seconds inbetween every 4 or 5 mobs.
Don't get me wrong. Seeing green numbers above my head is nice but not seeing red numbers pop up is even better! As for getting that master taskforce badge, a shielder, a healer and a debuffer would be the way to go. Make it as hard as possible to kill you and you won't have to worry about dying. -
At the risk of my own neck, I have to say Transhade has a point, somewhat. Healing is yet another form of damage mitigation, much like regen Scrappers. While I do understand the resentment of those who expect all Defenders to heal, we cannot and should not grieve over the mere mention of this ability.

More weapons is all fine and dandy but what I want is proper sound effects for them.
