No, the colors for a lot of particles are 'baked in' to the particle's texture. The FX scripts themselves are completely separate from animations. In fact there's a lot of animations that are shared between different powers with entirely different FX.
Power customization has some pretty big hurdles to overcome.

Woaw, thanks BaB to take so much time to correct all my misconceptions.
I don't know much about animation unfortunatelly.

It just, so many people want power customization so much... I can't help myself but daydreaming solution for it...
I know it would be a lot of work and would require putting many things on the back burner. But I think you would be surprised how many players would be ready for that. I think that it is such a desired feature than an issue with just power customization (like I9 was almost just the Invention system) would be pretty well received...

Well, keep up the good work.

    I see.
That was not the way I understood it, but it is possible.

Then, re-producing the animaitons would accomplish nothing, that's true.
But still, the more new animations/emotes are produces, the bigger is the incitation for the devs to find a way to translate these animations cheaply in the game engine.
And power customization would benefit and use this mechanism.

I dunno /e shrug. That owuld be nice...

They have the animations. But the animations file is both the 'Emote' part of the animation (throw the fists in front of you for power blast) and the power effect (a blue cone of energy surround your fists).
It is 'baked together' and they do not have the emote and power effects bit separated.

If they add, they could probably set up a system where you can select the emote animation of the character (like they did for flight) and then select the power effect and it's color.
But they do not have this separate animation files and it would require them going back and re-animating them for all the existing powers. Not gonna happen as they can not afford all this animator time.
that's what I understood, I will try to find oyu a linky...

The explanation that the devs gave us as to why power customization was not possible was that the auras and power effects could not be changes, they were 'baked into' the animations themselves.
Of course, redoing the animation without them and adding a way to select which power effects you want and their color and stuff (basically power customizaiton) was possible, technically. But was not realist in term of work load for them.
Now, if there is a way for the player base to give them these animations already done... then, I guess, power customization become doable.
It is one of the most desired feature for the game, from what I read...

Why not starting to animate the attacks that already are in the game?

I think that if they can get their hands on a good stack of the power animations without the power effetcs (just the body animations), then power customization become possible...

    This is amazing!

This could be THE solution that finally makes power customization possible!

from what I heard their main difficulty with power customization would be to redo all the animation without the power effects so that these effects could be added later.
Not a huge technical hurdle but a huge and unafordable use of time for them. but if player did that part of the job...
    Start drooling again. Power... customization...
  7. But she is still wearing clothes!

Disapointed in your subconscient I am...

Which is good because, that's also the only type that exist.

At least on test, she says something like "Save the Sorority, Save the University"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only thing she said to me was, "Like...Hi!"

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That's it!
so... yes, not exactly a model of eloquence...
  10. Also... what does she say?

I remember it was something like: 'You should, like, join us'.
Or something, I recall it sounding like she was a little... not to elightned (which perplexed me, as Claire is one of the two coherent, reasonably smart sounding cheerleaders in the history of television).
  11. A devs!

    In my thread!

    Don't let her get away!

We need to at least tag her, studying the devs migraotory and reproductive patterns...

Her, that's the first time a devs answer to me. Or post in a thread I created.

I feel special now... does it mean I am one of the cool kids?

    Also... told ya!
  12. It's indeed in front of the SC university.
She is just called 'Sorority recruiter' but c'mon 'average teen'? She is most definitivelly a cheerleader uniforme, and the costume is right.

I thought that it was a pretty clear winky-winky from the devs.
  13. I have not seen it mentionned anywhere so... there
  14. I agree that repeating the same missions several times for each character was tedious. It is a problem I already had with the winter event.
Making the reward acocunt wide would be nice.

Also, it would be nice to do something different fight somebody else than Snaptooth, for example. Is that really that much extra-work to design new enemies? (Honest question, I do not know...).

All it all, I would agree with Memphis on this one...

    Thanks for the support!

To be honest, criticism comes with the job. I'm not fond of personal attacks, but I understand that people are passionate. Heck, I worked in a comic book store (yep, I was comic book guy), so I understand the vagaries of working with the customer. One thing is tantamount, however - you guys are the PAYING subscribers. I might not like the feedback, but everyone is entitled to an opinion. Admittedly, honey is usually more effective than vinegar, but I always try to look beyond that...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Honey was my yearly subscriptions which you wont be getting anymore. Its month to month from now on for me how do you like that vinegar?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Isn't that paying them more money?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No because now I can cancel and come back when I feel like paying.

It's like a sweet and sour dish, then...
*Shrug* I suspect States to be the kind of people that enjoy chinese cuisine...
  16. Oh... I saw the title of your thread and I thought it was a new themed Sg... NOw I am disapointed...

But, seriously, it is true that people have been complaining more in the past few months. I really don't know why...

    Cryptic article.

And I think that City of Heroes signature characters should at least make a cameo. Portal Corp is the ultimate plot device.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It seems unlikelly to me. I dunno how their contract go but I would expect NCsoft to have secured the right for the Co* signature characters, because they had the money and were essencially in posiiton of power at that time. But I could be wrong and maybe one of our lovelly devs could correct me on this.
In this case I wouldn't expect them to agree on anybody using thier character, even so briefly, in a product concurent of their own.

Now if Cryptic put a Easter egg / parody character (Statesbaby; Ms Libertarian...), they would be safe. In fact, I am expecting them to do just so .
  18. Well, maybe some wacky ossies degenerated the thread into a flaming feast while you were not looking. Nver know it could happen.
Sure, in such a case, they try to only delete the guilty posts, but errors can be made...
  19. I think that, the mods are now stricter than they were a few months ago, during the 'Cupa Era' when post locking was a rather rare event (that's the way it seem to me).
Maybe they went back from that a little, I am not sure.
It's difficult and unfair to compare him to Cupa, she had been here for so long that her authority had become natural.

Anyway, in my book, Lighthouse do a good job. Under his reign, the forums are still a nice and pleasant place to be. And I am expecting him to get even better progressivelly, as he adjust to his own marks. This kinda things take time.
  20. Oh, me be happier now.

Might be related to the glitch of mission specific item (the one we only find in one mission) being invisible...
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Did you also know that in the original Tyrant Mission, If you were able to fast track with invis powers. States would be chained up at the end overtop of tyrants Throne, and if you freed him, you could then lead him to the exit and watch states hit Mobs for 4000 dmg a hit!!
Seeing how much damage that is, people would SK lowbies into the mission, stealth through to Tyrant, defeat him, then Let the newly Released Statesman powerlevel the group by owning everything in the face. Hence why Statesman was removed from the Mission
sometimes I wish they'd bring States bake and just remove any exp from kills he got. I didn't care about the exp, I just had fun watching statesman KO blow someone through the roof and see more damage than a brute with full fury

    [/ QUOTE ]

    They did that?
That's omega level of suck! States' mission was one of the coolest in the game because of that: teaming with the living legend and being in awe at his power level.
Doh, I really with they do like oyu suggested, I don't care for XP, I care for the fun of teaming with States!
  22. As far as I know, it still is there.
It was a few months ago. They might have fixed it since then.
  23. That's very cool.

    It is still true?

(Correct me if I am wrong my memory is kinda foggy on this one) Did you know if you saved a citizen from a mob that they used to give you influence?

Still does, just not all of them...
