Steam is good. Also, the steam forums are tons of fun too, not quite as 'family friendly' as these are, but certainly a lot of entertainment can be had there.

We have new keyboards, and this weird glitch happens where a key stops working. At one point it was the backspace key. This is what we get for refurbished gear. -

I sent in my original for the E74 error back in December-ish of last year. The refurb I got back works fine. I'm still planning on selling it, even though probably won't get very much for it. Got an Elite in place of it. Have no real desire to get a slim as I don't like the glossiness, though the Reach special edition is...tempting...me. Considering I've already spent $150 on the Legendary edition though... -

I don't actually use Steam and refuse to have it on my computer (don't try and talk me into it, I don't want it. Period). Just going by what I've heard. -

As for being online all the time, c'mon, folks, if you don't have an permanent broadband connection these days, you just ain't living.
But that's in response to getting online through Steam to access games and such. I don't mind it because Steam's allowed me to pick up a lot of great games real cheap. When it comes to something like Ubisoft's DRM, though, it's just retarded.
In addition, I loathe the idea that my DVD player needs to be online, or that I need to be online to access extra content on DVDs and Blu-Ray, such as deleted and extended scenes. The promise that you could watch the movie with other people online and they could chime in chat at any time is not something I would like. I would be telling people to STFU. *blush*
My point is, that even though I am not a Luddite, I still prefer not to be connected 24/7. -
Yeah, but the Jon Stewart exposure will counter the Hal Jordan character. Some viewers will expect Jon and will be disappointed/angry with Hal.
It's like how so many people here consider Wally West to be The Flash. Barry Allen will always be the Flash to me. -

This will get locked, but what I am looking at is buying Mass Effect 1 and 2, and I do not want SecureROM on my system. Does anyone know if they will be included should I buy through Steam? I do not own a 360 yet, so am unable to go that route.
edit: Nice to see familiar posters chiming in. We don't know each other personally, but I have a fair amount of respect for most of you. -

Enemies running for help, YES, that I'd like to see on occasion. I remember the first time I tried helping a "stranded woman" in Eastgate (The Hollows). That was a surprising "OH CRAP!" moment that me and my fellow newbie sidekick were quite entertained by.
As for enemies running for an escape, that MIGHT be cool in RARE INSTANCES, if the mission or contact explicitly warned you that part of your mission could involve preventing their planned escape. (And I'd get to chuckle at players who blindly roll through missions without reading anything.) I disagree with those who think ALL enemies ought to feel strong (or cunning) enough to face us straight-on, and suspect the origin of the sentiment is laziness.
Failing is not fun, particularly when you had NO chance of success. The old college try is one thing, getting hosed for story is another. -

Every time this comes up, inevitably someone brings up butt-watching or poor run animations. While I enjoy just turning on Walk and enjoying a lovely lady, I don't spend 750 hours doing that. I spend the bulk of that time killing stuff, which entails looking at my enemies, staring at my power trays, looking at my health an endurance bars, watching enemy health, surveying terrain and watching TV. I actually have to keep reminding myself to drop what I'm doing and just look at the character I'm playing. That's for characters of all genders, not just females.
Furthermore, I don't get the running animation complaints. Males may run a bit goofy, but it's still superior to the repugnant, ugly run animation females have. They bob up and down like a cork in the water, they swivel their hips for no reason and they "run with their elbows," so to speak. Every time I play a basic female character, I feel like I'm watching Peg Bundy run. Ugh! If I can, I'll try to always keep a weapon or a shield out, or otherwise constantly fly, because that running animation offends my senses.
As far as sexism goes, I can't testify to any. I used to make mostly male characters, but then Serevus showed me the plethora of amazing female designs he had. I stole a lot of his, then started making more weird concepts, and I've been experimenting with both females and males ever since. I don't know if I have an even split (I wouldn't know), but I know I don't have any preference of any specific kinds of characters requiring a specific gender. My girls range from fighters to rangers to casters to everything inbetween, and my guys are usually esoteric in some way. I have kids, I have spirits... I even have a few animals. It's too across-the-board to make any generalisations about.
However, the one instance where I WILL show sexism, though I don't know if it counts, is with "genderless" concepts. If I'm making a robot, a monster or, as of late, a swamp creature. If I have no gender characteristics to something, I'll use the basic male model as a "default humanoid shape." That doesn't mean I don't have female robots or, at the latest, a bug lady, but when I do design females, it's only if I have some reason for them to both BE and LOOK female. -

Being an old school Gamma Worlder, I tend to think the game is best when it has a system of its own. I didn't care for the d20 version at all, and I won't be bothering with this new version.
I suspect one could simply do better with another system using the wealth of background from 1-3rd editions.
Hero system was never something I like for realism.
At times, a dedicated system is much better than a generic one. -
