Book-Signing for Bystander

Empaths. Superstrength. Kung Fu Masters. Petting Zoo People.

There is a word for people like that. A pre-packed fluffy-feeling word the government’s spin doctors had come up with.

Peak.

Lucretia had her own words for her peer group: freaks of nature, science projects, and fanatics. They were all the people that had been born, transformed or self-willed into something that should have been bizarre, but was becoming less so.

All she wanted to do was live an unnoticed life in her brownstone, working at the library and chasing down idiot cops who took her books on stakeouts.

Of course, there are problems with that, such as the fact that she's considered an interesting research specimen by some of the more amoral companies. Her tendency to stick her nose in where it probably shouldn't be. A love-hate relationship with various alcoholic beverages.

Oh yes, and the fact that she's still on parole.

I will be at Dragon's Lair October 2nd in San Antonio, Tx at Fredericksburg and Medical near the crossroads of Loop 410 and I10 doing some local promoting of my novel by doing a book signing if anybody in the area is interested in coming by and checking it out.

I was just going to put this on my previous plug for the novel, but it's buried so deep, I don't feel particularly bad about putting a new thread up.

Looks interesting. I may have to check it out, if for no other reason than the name.

Did not want to sign up on the site just to offer criticism so i hope you don't mind the feedback here. Couple of quick thoughts. Use the other senses, sight might be our primary one but you'll draw the reader in more if you invoke the others in your descriptions. You used blue as an adjective 4 times in the very first paragraph. Azure, cerulean, midnight. all shades of blue without using the same word twice. And on a much more subjective side, don't like the cover. Too anime. Now if that's what you were going for then cool but i think it might limit the "curb appeal".

Well, yes, the cover is on purpose. I tend to hope that GENZOMAN's work is a half-way measure between the two, plus I sort of enjoy some of that sort of story-telling. Plus, while it might limit the curb appeal, so would any other style I chose.

As to the senses thing, I hadn't really considered it myself. I do make a lot of use of emotional feelings almost as a sense, and the sense of touch fairly often given her tendency not to like being touched. Scent I haven't used much. Hmmm...

Hearing does get used.

well have to consider the scent thing

however, I still wouldn't change the intro, I like it the way it is. But will think about it for the next. Lu isn't one to put on perfumes despite her other trends toward femininity. Too much chance of being tracked based on that scent.

Take a look at this book when you get the chance.

"Under the Jaguar Sun"

This book opened my eyes on how scent can be used to help tell a story without relying on the obvious. These short stories really draw you in in ways that normal descriptive methods can't.

Back on topic,

FANTASTIC!
Congratulations on the new book, and good luck on the self marketing!

Well, one problem I can foresee on using scent is my lack of it do to persistent allergies, but yeah, I'll see. I do use scent occasionally in everyday life, just not something I think about all the time and alot of my emotional responses are probably different.

for example, I absolutely hate perform due to the fact that it gives me migraines

opening a door to a hallmark shop can be a physical blow to the face, almost exactly like being struck, especially around Christmas.

I'd buy a copy, but right now, I am teh broke.

It's also why I don't rush out right this second to buy a copy of the Eisner Nominated "Common Grounds" by Troy Hickman, as well as the Top Cow Pilot Season Winner "Twilight Guardian", also by Troy Hickman (And has no relation to the craptastic Twilight books).

Quit plugging my stuff in Lycanus' plug threads. We shameless self-promoters have a code of ethics too, y'know...
