I don't really care if in-game items become available for purchase with real life money - I can currently obtain pretty much anything I want/need with a little patience (and not much actual effort) so I'd just not bother buying them.
I would however be somewhat unhappy if special enhancements were exclusively available from the real-money store - if there wasn't a way to obtain them in-game (I suppose the first part of my post is why the devs/publisher might decide to make them real-money only, mind you). -

I have alts filling both servers. As a non-farmer and non-rper, I really don't find there to be much difference between the two. Maybe ((slightly more use of OOC denotation)) when team chatting on Virtue, but only slightly (I almost never encounter any full blown RP). Otherwise it's similar population sizes, similar activity in terms of trials, tfs, etc, and despite the propaganda, similar quality of players. I'd maybe give a slight edge to Virtue on public global channels - I've only managed to find one properly active global on Freedom (Freedom TF) and it's a smidgen more prone to /broadcast quality chatter (vs actual team/event forming) than the Virtue equivalents - course that may be a plus point, depending on your preferences.

My renewal date is the 17th, but I too have received my PPoints early, either today or yesterday (didn't look yesterday, but they definitely hadn't been awarded on Tuesday).

Kinetics can stack 2 Fulcrums + 3 Siphon Powers on a single target, to essentially reach the -damage cap (or floor, depending how you look at it).
Dark Miasma can stack Darkest Night, 2-3 Twilight Grasps, Dark Servant's Darkest Night, and Dark Servant's Twilight Grasp to get similar results.
Those would be my choices for a single target (and part of why I love them for AV fights). For AoE they probably win out too, but don't reach as impressive levels. Other buff/debuff sets can have more potent individual -damage powers, but don't have the same potential to stack up to the cap. I'm not so familiar with melee ATs though, so will defer to others on Ice/Kin tanks and such.
As for reducing -damage, relative enemy level will reduce it (as it does with all powers - damage, debuff, or mez). Also damage resistance will reduce its effects on any attacks that match the damage resistance's damage type (so a mob with smashing resistance will be less affected by -damage on its smashing attacks). -
Summon Spiderlings and Call Reinforcements.
Using AoEs (besides Venom Grenade) isn't likely to be as effective as using whatever single target attacks you have because they tend to be lower damage and/or higher endurance cost than single target attacks, but they can still be useful to fill out an attack chain if you've not got a complete one (e.g. because you used all your power choices on AoEs).
My own Crab cycles Venom Grenade, Arm Lash, Channelgun, and Slice, just because those are the powers I have rather than because I've done some sums to find out what works best. It's the pets that really help me melt single hard targets though. -
For whatever it's worth I fought him with a level 30 WM/EA Brute (generic and frankenslotted IOs) and a level 25 DP/Poison Corruptor (same for IOs) and took him down without too much bother via purple + red inspirations (just whatever I had on-hand at the time). With the Corruptor I took down his minions first to reduce incoming fire then kited him as I wore him down. With the Brute I avoided killing the minions for the small +rech and +def/end boosts they provide EA and just went toe-to-toe.
With no self-heal besides a couple green inspirations it was a close fight, but I managed it without a death. I don't say this to haha-newb anyone, just to let you know that it's certainly doable without uber characters, so don't give up!
Also, in fairness, it does warn you about the EB and that it may be difficult to solo. -
Don't think it is, or at least not to this week's patch - a week or two ago I saw someone comment about their lava immunity (in the context of completing the entire arc without using an attack power).
-
Yeah, while I'm quite enjoying the SSA so far, $5 a piece is too high - that means the full arc is going to be $35, which is pretty much equivalent to a full expansion pack in price, but *far* less content (even if you don't rush, you're looking at maybe 30 minutes per part - compare that with e.g. First Ward content to cost ratio), and while I can fully understand not being allowed to buy an easy way to make 7 alignment merits per week, the limit on rewards takes away the only other area that might make it worth that cost.
Not that it affects me as a subscriber, but if I were Premium I'd just buy whichever was the shortest/easiest part and ignore the rest. -
Quote:Ah, I didn't talk to the guards, so that's probably it. Now I think about it, one of them said something to me, but I just ignored him as insignificant (redside). When I did the mission heroside, I spoke to the guards before entering the office, and I was able to talk to Stein, and there was an option to threaten him (although I didn't take it).
Also, Numina should really encase Tommy's skull in a bowling ball or something. -
Quote:I saw you comment on this earlier, but I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Any level of Premium can already send tells - I was only thinking with regards to blocking/allowing the haven't-spent-anything-yet players (as in the first of the three classes of player: free, premium, vip).Okay, here are my reasons for not wanting a menu option to let players choose to accept free player tells:
- Overly broad. It allows pure F2P all the way up to Premium Tier 8 players.
My reason for preferring that option is that personally I'm willing to put up with the RMT spam (I was here at its worst, so I know what I'd be letting myself in for) in order not to have any complications or workarounds for my full unfettered communications, however slight those complications may (or may not) be. But I know that others would find that to be totally unacceptable, so I'd just like to be able to opt in for myself and let others stay as they are now. -
Quote:I super-speeded into his office and he immediately fled (and then the guards went aggressive). He seemed to just be a normal civilian type with the white targeting box rather than an interactive one.One minor annoyance: apparently if you tick off the guards in the third mission, Harry Stein disappears. I walked past the guards at his office door this time, which of course aggroed them, and after I stomped them, I found Stein's office empty. So if you want to strong-arm Stein, you have to be polite to the guards first?

First thing I did when AE came out was made an arc involving cloning Hardcase just so I could kill him over and over and over again (with a neural link between him and his clones, just so he could feel each death).

Quote:Yeah, this is basically my stance.I cannot speak for everyone else who posted, but I personally am not talking about people who aren't paying. I'm talking about me, who pays, and is prevented from receiving tells from free players. I did not have a choice in the matter and there is no amount of money I can pay to fix it. While I do pay to play the game "as is" sometimes the way it is isn't what I'd hope for.
I don't *really* care much what a free player does and doesn't get, not in terms of "Oh the poor free players!" or anything like that.
What I care about is that it's impeding my own paid subscriber communications because a) I don't know if the person I just sent a tell to can reply, and b) I have to jump through extra hoops to get those who can't reply onto my teams. Maybe not by a huge amount, but when you play off-peak hours every little helps (or hinders, as the case may be).
I also happen to think that a side effect of the compromise suggestions* would be to increase the likelihood of a free player sticking with the game long enough to start wanting to buy stuff in the store and/or subscribe. But that's an added bonus rather than my primary concern.
*Personally I favour a menu option to let players choose to accept free player tells, but a one-for-one reply allowance works too. -
Quote:To be honest, if you've got four of them you don't really need the double Maneuvers. Four Crab/Bane TT:Maneuvers will get you to just over 60% defense even before considering any personal +def powers (Widow/Fort TT:Maneuvers won't, but they'll actually get even higher once you add in Mind Link). Once you throw in CT:Defensive, Farsight, and optionally pool stuff like Combat Jumping or Weave (nevermind IO bonuses), I'd say pool Maneuvers is an unnecessary endurance drain.Just have everyone grab 2x Maneuvers and keep it running and you'll have plenty enough survivability, the only issue might be team-wide endurance but if you're coordinated enough then you can mix and match eachother's inspirations for enough blues to go around.
VEAT builds can be quite tight (and short on endurance) so personally I'd go with all 3 Tactical Training powers plus power pool Assault and call it a day- use the other power slots for attacks, debuffs, and other utility powers. -
I do wish we could assign the Admin channel to a single chat tab and remove it from all the others. I make fairly heavy use of the whole tab-title-highlights-when-there's-a-new-message functionality, so it's a bit annoying when someone starts chattering on the Admin channel beyond a single announcement.
But eh, it's not like it's rage inducing or anything - it's about the equivalent of an RMT spammer for me, a few clicks and it's dealt with. -

Quote:The % varies depending on which power you look at. At least that's what I saw on a brief check of the detailed info which I have now forgotten the exact results ofThe real bonus you're getting this that since more things have the disintegration effect on them your follow-up powers will now hit a bit harder (around 15% harder I think?). That 15% is, like Fiery Embraces extra damage effect, nice because it is affected by Damage buffs etc.
I want to say it's about 15% for Charged Shot, ~20% for Lancer Shot, and a bit higher still for Penetrating Ray and Piercing Beam (I forget how those two compared, though one is direct damage while the other is DoT). Unsure about Cutting Beam's bonus DoT.
Essentially though, it seemed the heavier hitting attacks get a higher % of base as their bonus damage.
Single Shot and Overcharge don't get bonus damage at all though (they get -regen and mag 3 stun respectively, instead).
Typically I set up disintegration on any Boss+ enemy (sometimes Lts too, depending on difficulty settings, team performance, etc) because the extra damage it provides subsequent attacks is worthwhile on a target that'll last long enough. I don't worry so much about spread though - if it happens, great, that's a bit more damage from my cone (which I often hold back until I do see spread), it'll wear down the spawn a bit if the difficulty/team isn't resulting in a dead spawn within seconds, and it might save me having to set up another disint when my current target dies.
I don't bother with the snipe on either of my BR characters though (tried it a while and respecced out of it). -
Quote:I'm wondering if maybe the game distinguishes /reply from /tell.Huh. I thought this worked. A couple of Freems I played with today mentioned that they could use it.
The actual keybind version of reply (backspace by default, I think) essentially just goes "/beginchat /t $lastpersontotellyou, ", which would be the same as if you manually typed /tell, and thus treated/blocked the same way as a regular tell.
But then there's the actual typed out /reply command, which ultimately has the same end result, but is maybe viewed as a distinct separate command by the game and so potentially usable by free players?
Or those Freems were just mistaken somehow, I dunno. -
Quote:They could be like bullet casing on the gun-based powersets. At the end of an extended battle you're up to your ankles in teeth.(Also, would it be too much to ask to add a few tooth-shaped particles to the landing FX on Crushing Uppercut?)
And then someone activates fly or somesuch and teeth all swirl up into the air. -
Quote:Same. Even at its worst the RMT barely registered with me (and it didn't really bother me in other games that had it FAR worse than CoH ever did).I couldn't care less about RMT, I was here during the supposed worst parts and it was merely more than a blip on the radar, blown out of proportion by some forum goers. If you ask me, stopping F2P players from communicating in tells and broadcast is throwing out the baby with the bath water.
But I recognise that some are bothered by it, which is why I favour the idea to give us a menu option to allow tells from free accounts. As a subscriber I'm willing to take my chances if it removes roadblocks from my own communications, while those who can't stand RMT could just keep them disabled.
(it's good to see the idea seems to be receiving a more positive response here than it did in beta) -
Quote:Everything you posted was pretty much my concern about the free player chat restrictions, and this was my thought on a solution too. A large part of my motivation was making things easier for me, the VIP player, rather than giving these guys something for free.In addition to a 'Free to Play' channel, we need an option like 'Receive tells from free players'. At the very least, if I, the paying VIP, send a tell to a free player, they should be able to respond to me.
At the absolute minimum we need a system message informing us that the person we just sent a /tell to cannot respond.
In the meantime I'm looking at /friend as a kind of clunky, less private version of /tell. -
Yeah, on my Corruptor I slot it for damage primarily for the extra Scourge damage - it's a decent chunk of damage when it's not stretched out over the full DoT duration.
-
Can't you just sprinkle Bacon Salt over the other control power sets?
