Quote:Sounds like a lot of MUDs, the precursor to the modern MMO.I'm going to create a MMO with a thousand levels and the End Game Content begins at level 5.
The first online game I played was a MUD called Avatar which had 50 "low mortal" levels, then 999 "hero" levels, followed by 999 "lord" levels, and you got the new spells/abilities of each tier within the first 100 levels, making the rest pure "endgame". I'm not sure if they ever did get around to the 999 "legend" levels. -
One word names tend to look more 'iconic' and fit the superhero/villain comic style. They're also a lot more obvious (and depending on your view, less creative) so tend to be snatched up quickly. So when a new server appears, yeah, a lot of the names people are going for (and thus report in threads like this) will be one word names.

Ok, so I don't know the full details of the steps that lead to this as I wasn't the team leader or mission holder, but what I do know:
I was in a team, we were running Leonard's arc (~12am to 1am, BST). We got to the final mission where we steal Protean's money (for reference, we didn't save the clone in the previous mission, and we chose to rob the bank).
So then we all exit, and the leader I guess talks to the contact. Next thing we know we have a new mission titled "Test your brand new cutscene!" with a subtitle "NICE!".
Confused and curious, we enter, to find it's the retake the cloning lab / defeat Protean mission again.

Quote:I dunno, on a squishy char like a Corruptor I'd rather have the extra +def rather than the extra +res, especially as you usually get a similar amount of +def to the equivalent powers' +res (and it's easier to build for further +def to stack with it). Plus FFG won't suppress when a mez (e.g. sleeps) does get through. With /Sonic it changes completely when you pick up Sonic Dispersion. There are several advantages of the FFG from Traps over Sonic Dispersion, but in the long run I prefer Sonic Dispersion over FFG.
Only real advantage I see in Sonic Dispersion is you're not reliant on FFG's sometimes dodgy AI/pathing, and occasional tendency to die mid-battle. -
Oh definitely. With all this downtime we better get so many free players the servers can't handle it and have to be shut down for emergency maintenance!

Since changing my account password I've not been logged out mid-session once. I have however been logged out at the start of every new session - the 'Remember Me' box just doesn't do anything at all anymore.

I've been running a Beam/Traps (21 so far), and I'm loving it. The front loaded nature of Traps gives me plenty of time to pew pew, and it's a strong set overall. Also I figure Trip Mine will help compliment the single target nature of Beam. And both sets benefit from chasing +rech.
I've also made a Beam/Sonic, but he's only level 10 so far, so I've less of an impression of how he's going to turn out. I don't expect it to be as strong as the Beam/Traps, as Sonic's just not as good a set, but I think it should still work out nicely. I probably won't try to solo with him much though. -
Just to expand on that slightly, the locked items have a button that will add them to your trolley and take you directly to checkout, so you won't have to make a note of what you want then faff around trying to navigate the store to find the ones you want.

Quote:Even if you don't know those particular technical specifics, if someone who has otherwise had a reasonable reputation, hasn't acted in a negative manner previously, if that person suddenly appears to be acting that way, who isn't going to ensure they are who they claim to be? In this day and age? On the Internet?Because everyone knows how to do that right away. Or is even aware how similar, say, I and l look.
Yeah I know, lots of people. But it's damned depressing to just accept that.
(edit: and even more depressing if it's in a game that actually does allow more than one person to have the same name) -

Quote:Far as I can see, Hellcat and Quiver aren't actually taken, they're blocked/reserved by the system. I had the name check do similar - sometimes it says the name is available when it's actually not allowed at all.I had that happen with Hellcat. :/

Quote:You can also check in-game using /friend (if it says they don't exist or aren't online then either it's a reserved word, or it's available).Saw that, I mean character select. Used to just have a great big button to do it. Now I have to have a free slot, or delete something. Lame.
Anyway, good news: Pepe Le Pew Pew is available for all your beam rifle needs! -
Got:
Ninja Time
Time Bandit
Freelance
Feud
Backfire (I see there's a forum poster by that name in this thread - I'll give this one up if need be, unlike the others I don't have a specific plan for it yet)
Loudmouth
Oversight
And claimed a few names for alts I may transfer over from other servers, depending on long-term population sizes after it all goes free to play.
Wanted, but didn't get:
Overkill (my friend got it before I could, neither of us knowing the other wanted it)
Reaver
Vex -
I claimed a bunch of names there, and will even level a few of them, but I'm going to wait and see how population levels turn out once f2p goes live before I'll commit any real amount of time there. Depending how the respective population sizes turn out I could potentially see myself (reluctantly) transferring my Victory alts over there, but that's a decision for a month or three down the line.

Quote:That's annoying me a fair bit. I don't care about a message telling me I'm a subscriber and I get to post on the forums - I already know that what with having parted with money and being able to post. So having that pointless message cramp up the part that's actually functional and useful, it's an irritation. Was the gigantic welcome to the forums message always up there or always that big? The breadcrumb navagation section seems smaller to me for some reason.
Not a big mclargehuge irritation, but enough to make me post this -
I bought (well, stipend points bought) Beam Rifle. Everything else I either a) already have, b) don't really want, or c) kinda want but not at that price (hello, storage expansions).
Historically I almost never spend any actual money in microtransaction stores - I think the only things likely to get me to spend beyond my vip stipend here are powersets, mission/zone content (though I'm hoping that type of content to always be included in the subscription), and maybe the occasional costume. -

Quote:That doesn't sound promising.Hmm, not only is my point balance zero (given what we've seen in this thread it must be zero for everyone), but I note that while I've been an active subscriber since 2005, the account management page is showing my total paid time as 4 years 9 months.
Even though I've never let my subscription lapse.
This doesn't bode well for the servers coming up soon.
My paid time is displaying subscription time I've paid for and not used yet (yearly subscription just renewed last month - I'm at 7 years 11 months on the account screen). -
Server list is ordered by population no? So it probably depends how many devs are logged into each server claiming all the good names while we're unable to log on (i.e. it'll move about unless it's the last one you selected, in which case it'll sit at the top).
