I was used to the European boards.
I'm very quiet on these big ones... they're scary... -
As part of my adventure to make myself at least competent with Photoshop, and therefore needing something to colorify, I've added an inked piece of Ferals Kat and Kitty attempting to turn one another into burger meat. But since it's possibly too suggestive for these boards (it's a fight they're having, but their position is perhaps a wee bit lewd), I won't post a direct link - but it's here in my DA gallery if any of you bigger boys and girls wanted to go take a look

-
I love Clutch's skating Freakshow, but the poignancy of Ghost Widow's ice dance just nicks it for Lousy Day
-
Phew... I forgot how close this deadline was, but have finally managed to knock out a quick sketch here: http://happy-dan.deviantart.com/art/...ncer-151368008
I think it meets the requirements, if we can pretend that Ms Liberty does wield Excalibur, and that there really is a Magic Sword category in the fencing.
And I'm a good boy. I've also cross posted to the CoH FArt gallery at DA. -
Thanks, everyone!
OK, so that's Angel Red, Plutonium Bloom, VexXxa, Xllusa, plus Feral Kat/Kitty by way of DA - plus a couple of male heroes (I'm thinking possibly Cindersnap and Tower of Power, if Zortel and Ghostie are reading this, since you both asked before anyone else) and that's more than half a dozen subjects now, so, for the time being, I'll stop taken suggestions for characters to draw.
Thanks for the encouragement, advice and feedback! I have a bedroom to decorate this week, so progress will be slowed, somewhat, for a while. But there should be a start next week. -
In that case, I throw the offer out to any passer-by who has a character they'd like to see done!
(...as long as they're not too ugly or difficult, though... the toon, that is...)
-
Sound advice, which I'm happy to act upon.
And, since you suggested it, feel free to drop me a link/screenie and I'll freebie you up -
Quote:Absolutely. It's something I'm very concious of, and trying to remedy by uploading at least a couple of new pieces every week. The smallness is, in fact, down to me taking out the creaky antique stuff and the sloppy sketches. I was sure I had some CoH stuff knocking about somewhere, but that's disappeared into the digital void....My humble suggestion for if you're looking to take commissions from outside (err, dA at large I guess I mean) is to get a bigger gallery! I'd seriously be personally hesitant to hire someone with such a small portfolio...
I have chronic altitis, which for these purposes comes in handy: I can use 30-odd CoX characters as subject matter for quite a while, I guess -
Why thankee kindly!
It's just a teeny tiny gallery at the moment, since I cleared out a great big pile of stuff last year, so it won't take long to browse -
It seems like aaaaages since I filled up my DA account with piles of CoH sketches. At some point it seemed like a good idea to clear out almost everything from the gallery and rejig the pages - but after time enough for civilizations to rise and fall I have, at last, started doodling again and here are a couple of pieces of my stinky controller, Doctor Bindweed:

I've also started taking on some commissions, and recently I did a bunch for a fellow SG member. I like this one because it's so uncluttered and seems pretty seasonal:

At the moment, the few pieces in the gallery are plain ol' black-and-white, ink-on-paper things. But on Thursday I got my grubby mitts on Photoshop CS2, so Living Color, here I come...! -
Absolutely correct, sir - a whole load of goal differences that laast year.
Still... you have to laugh. The "Big Two" killed the competition off because they were, apparently, too good to play the Welsh and Irish every year.

One must also bear in mid that the movie in question was made by the guy whose bright idea was Lost.
Canon, logic, and consistency are not the first things one should perhaps most readily associate with Mr Abrams. -
Everything here can all be explained in episode 7 of the Disney/Pixar/Coca-Cola/Toyota/Google holographic omnivision web-series, Star Trek: Continuity, which was uploaded in Korea in March, 2048 and will be reintegrated into the linear timeline schedule at a more convenient and economic timeslot the day after tomorrow.

*sulk* Christmas will never be the same without any more Woolies ads on telly.
And although Coca-Cola weren't the first to dress Father Christmas in red, they are credibly credited with persuading us all to see him in no other colour sonce 1931, and for that they should settle up...
Out of court is fine.
Come on Coke, I'm broke, and you can easily afford to buy off my seasonal misery. At least until next year... -
This thread has reminded me of the old Home Internationals, which were eventually terminated because England and Scotland thought that playing Wales and Northern Ireland every year just wasn't worth their time.
As I recall, in that last Championship year Wales and Northern Ireland finished joint winners. -
While none of this pack appeals to me, personally, and although I won't be forking out for it, the logic behind it is good - my subs havent gone up since EU launch, and that's partly due to additional funding options like this. I may crack remarks about this being the Pokemon Pack, but it's cool that this is so popular - it means more cash to splash on really cool stuff like... well... whatever really cool stuff is being developed as we type.
So, even if you think the Pokemon Sprint power looks daft, you have reason to be happy that people are buying it in substantial numbers, because it all feeds in to extra sprinkles on the City of cake for us all. -
Quote:If I want something, I usually make a case for needing it... I'm just so in touch with my inner 9-year-old... ("But Dad, I neeeeed a biscuit!")GR will not require an upgrade to your graphics card and it definately does not require Windows 7 or Vista (as was stated).
There's some probablity that you will want to upgrade your graphics card, because Ultra Mode is awesome. -
Quote:This is why I come here for tech advice - I didn't know that! (OpenGL? That could be a type of sandwich for all I know... Or a sports tournament on the planet Oa...)It's OpenGL, so the Windows version is irrelevant as long as you have decent drivers.
EDIT: Basically, if GR is your reason for upgrading, don't bother
I expect to have Win7 running well before Summer 2010, though, because all the pertinent drivers will have been updated before GR is released - but that's not the reason I'm upgrading from Vista, though: GR might require an upgrade to my graphics card, perhaps, but I should be OK with the NVidea doohickey that's in my tub at the moment. The reason I was upgrading was just that I'm not all that thrilled with Vista, and Win7 has been getting much better reviews - so I got it while it was half price.
Plus, I'm hoping it works better with CS2 than Vista does with my 10-year-old copy of Photopaint! -
Thanks for that, O
I'm also running 4 gig ram quad core, and what I've read is that the new RT61 drivers seem to have freezing up issues with this kind of set up - especially when combined with that PCI card. Neither Ralink nor Edimax have a Win7 driver on their sites (Ralink have even taken down the page for their RT61!)
I'm definitely no more than a simple layman when it comes to this stuff, so I'm happy to take your word for it that there's a way to make it all work. But because I'm just a simple layman I''m drawing a line under this for now - wasting a day moving files about, installing one OS then reinstalling the old... that's enough time wasted for me.
I'm sure Ralink and Edimax will update their drivers eventually - I'm more worried about my A3 scanner, which Win7 doesn't recognise: my Mustek cost £100, but to replace it would set me back maybe 5 or 6 times that much. And I only bought Win7 early to take advantage of the pre-order price
If I have to buy bits and bobs to make everything work nicely with my shiny Win7, I'll wait until I know what will make the beautiful-looking Going Rogue look and feel its best. -
Today I installed my shiny new Windows 7 on my Vista 64 PC... and then I reinstalled Vista...
Seems Windows 7 doesn't work with Ralink RT61 chipset or the EDIMAX EW-7128g PCI card.... and neither have an update for Windows 7 yet. Windows 7 also fails to recognise the driver for my A3 scanner, and although knows that my printer is a printer, it doesn't know it's an Epson.
Now, after reinstalling Vista, I try launching CoH and the Updater wants to reinstall the whole shebang, and starts downloading 2.8 gigs...
Am I unlucky, cursed, or just plain dumb?
EDIT: The answer is, of course, plain old dumb. I'd forgotten to redirect the Updater to the correct directory... -
Excellent work Birdy! Thanks again for taking the time and trouble out from your personal time at the Con for this!
Being the old sourpuss that I am, it seems to me that there isn't ever a single brunette with bangs who can avoid declarations that she's "modelled on Bettie Page" - if it's true regarding Desdemona, however, I can't help wonder what perils and objectives will be found in her story arc...
Oh come on, you were all thinking the same thing! -
My assumption is that it's all due to Rock'n'Roll being imported from America!
Deep in the mists of time, Johnny Kidd and Roger Daltrey are the first names who spring to mind when I try and think of English rock singers who have an "English Rock Voice" - punk/new wave re-established English accents as rock vocals later, but I think it's probably a style/trend thing.
The English pop and rock industry aped the likes of Elvis, Pat Boone et al in the early sixties (Cliff Richard started as one of the many "British Elvis" types, and Adam Faith's early career was based on impersonating Buddy Holly's vocal style, for example).
People like Jagger and Lennon are kind of mid-Atlantic, I guess, which is only to be expected, given their influences, which also explains why Ray Davies and Steve Marriot could sing like Americans on bluesy/rock songs, but slip into very English on non-traditional numbers.
From your examples, Westley, I'd probably go with the Corrs and ONJ drawing their style from Country, and the Bee Gees started out in the tradition of US vocal harmony groups. U2 have always aspired to be stadium rockers, but Bono and Elton John have both become much more "TransAtlantic" in their phrasing and accent as they've become older and settled more snugly into the American genre.
It's all a part of the homogenization of mainstream rock and pop. The "MOR"ing of international pop has an American accent, I'm afraid - it's what the Spice Girls were told to do when they were created, and it's just gone on and on from there. English used to be a common accent for rock and pop (Noddy Holder! Suggs! Ian Dury!) but is much less so in the mainstream now, not least because these days Simon Cowell has everyone singing power ballads, which means likes of Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke all have to sound like Mariah Carey -
Quote:Indeed. I'm just more than a bit tetchy tonight. Age does that to a person. Apologies.Actually there was a particular post I was replying to that was specifically complaining that the event didn't go live with the patch.
My point wasn't that oh noes people whine, my point was merely that no matter what the devs do someone is going to be miffed. If they launch it early people complain it was early. If they launch on time people complain it was ontime or at an inconvenient time.
There will always be a certain level of whine, and really unless its something the devs can actually fix (unfortunately expectations isn't something they can fix) its just fluff.
Differing opinions though. "The devs screwed up again" is not helpful, "It would have been a good idea for the devs to have placed the date in the GMOTD." however is helpful.
The smiley faces in my post however were suppose to convey the light hearted nature of my tone. -
No, GG, I'm not mistaking what the European Lounge is for: I'm lamenting the fact this is what it's become.
The sections beyond idle discussion, such as pop culture, have in some cases been pretty much destroyed by their absorption into the massive North American soup. Like it or not, although we share the same language we don't share the same cultural experiences on this side of the ocean that you do in North America.
It would be nice for the English speaking playerbase in Europe to enjoy parity with the French and German players. Am I mistaken in thinking that the French and German boards were transferred pretty much intact, and that it was just the English-speaking EU board that was mangled to fit the homogenized monster we have now? -
I remember, pre-merge, the EU forums was always a lively, interesting and interested place. I remember having to check them several times a day to follow some threads which excited people - and that happened quite frequently. I loved the "Pop Culture" boards, which were bustling and relevant. I followed the Roleplaying boards because there was always something going on.
Stuff happened.
Nowadays, it's rare to see more than a few posts per day in this so-called "European Lounge" and it's not unusual for a day to pass in which no-one posts a thing.
I've already entered a cycle of logging in to the game and logging out a few minutes later because the fun drains out of me before I even choose a character. It doesn't happen often - because I don't want to bother logging in very often. On previous occasions when this has happened I always had the boards to entertain me and keep the embers glowing, but nowadays it seems this is dying down, too.
So what's happened? Has everyone just stopped using the "EU lounge"? Has the old community become swept up by the vast global forum? Or have people started to just drift away from the boards altogether?
I see very few familiar names in-game anymore, and I see very few on these boards, now. I'm just curious why (beyond any suspicions I may already have formed) that should be...
