Does FSAA look better if you drop it down to 4X? -
Quote:Because I never noticed a performance hit of any kind from Character Detail. Maybe it makes a difference during events like a Ship Raid or Hamidon run, but I never noticed.
BillZ, with your initial settings, can you tell me why you have the character detail set to 200%?
Because when it's set to always on in the CCC, it's always on in any game I play. If, however, I set it to, say, On Unless Applications Specifies, I've noticed that turning it on in game sometimes doesn't work.Quote:And also why you have the CCC verical sync to 'always on' and the in-game vertical sync 'disabled'. I would think it would be the other way around.
As the dev, Tex, has stated, turning on ANY Ultra Mode setting locks Shader at High because it must be High for Ultra Mode options to work. Ahh, TargetOne covered that.Quote:What I didn't mention is that my shader quality setting locks on 'high'. Is that supposed to happen with the shadowmaps setting? -

There's a thing called safe mode. I'm not talking about windows safe mode. Check the box. Reset all your settings. Exit game. Run game. Maybe stop crashing?

Seeing rednames posting in a technical manner regarding graphics issues gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. I'd rather they not go away.

Quote:The only time I've ever seen this occur was due to the updater itself freaking out and being unable to update itself. Have him attempt the instructions I gave.
BZB, no it didn't. It just said that his pc didn't have the memory to req'd to update the game. When i went to the C drive propeties, the pie chart was full and said he didnt have any FREE SPACE left. If it takes some type of print out, ill just let him deal with it because i dont have access to it and he dont come to the forums. Thanks. -
Does the error message when attempting to update also say something along the lines of "...or you don't have permission to write to the folder?"
If so, the fix is here:

In short form:
Delete CoH shortcut from desktop. Copy (do not create shortcut) of cohupdater.exe to desktop. Run it. If prompted, direct it to install to same directory you copied it out of. Once done, do NOT click next. Close program. Delete the COPY of cohupdater.exe you created. If no new shortcut was created, create a new shortcut of cohupdater.exe to desktop. Rename as you see fit. Run it.

Hell powered android called Blenderizer 666, color the WP powers red/black
Werewolf... no wait, I did that with mine. -
Known issue in beta. So roll with it until they fix it.

My mother told me often, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all."
When it comes to PBs, I think this time I'll listen to her. -
That screenshot looks exactly like the effect on buildings with AO and FSAA both on. DG, I have no idea what's going on there. I'll check AA mode later. I think I'm on the middle step... multisample I think.

... I had to stop myself from turning this thread into a "What's more evil than that?" joke.

How evil do I want to be in game? They'd have to get an M rating first. Apparently eating babies is frowned upon in polite society.

On base difficulty with nothing but SOs any scrapper can do any of this game's content that isn't specifically designed for teams.
Some scrappers with nothing but SOs can do some of that team content.
You are NOT letting a team down by not being IOed out. Anyone that kicks another player because they are overflowing with SetIO bonuses is a butthead.
That said, even casual players can find themselves surprised at what they CAN manage to afford on the market with patience. Even level 50 basic IOs can provide a healthy bump to your performance since 2 level 50 basic IOs is almost equal to 3 SOs. -
Quote:I think you missed my point.I see what you're getting at in the post, but there have been teams where an Elm/SD or FM/SD Scrapper has made a significant impact on mob clearing.
But /SD is a special monster, and those two pairings in particular are (IMO) the best two pairings in terms of what they bring to teams.
DM/SD is my least favorite /SD combo when it shows up on a team.
Go back to my post and replace DM/SD with El/SD on both the scrapper and brute parts. Then do the same with FM/SD.
What I meant to get across is that if you replace a scrapper on a team with a brute of the exact same powersets, or vice versa, you aren't going to notice the difference.
EDIT: Well... unless the brute has darkest night, then everyone's mitigation goes up. -
Although I used to use AVG, at some point I noticed it became a bit too bloated for my tastes. I'm now using Avira Antivir.
-
Not to discount what Sarrate just posted, the flip side to those points is that ALL redside ATs are damage dealers.
The brute will dish out Vastly higher damage than the tank. The corruptor will make a mockery of the damage a defender can push out.
The buffs may not be as grand, but if a redside team stops thinking about tackling a spawn like a blueside team would and instead attacks said spawn as the damage dealers that they are, the problems go away and the spawns melt. -
Every single DPS calculation I've ever done is based on a single target attack chain against a hard target.
When I'm playing either my scrappers or my brutes on teams, those single target chains mean precisely nothing unless we're dealing with +conned bosses, AVs, monsters and the like.
On Bill, on an 8man team, my chain is going to be followup, spin, shockwave, repeat. On Louis I'll be throwing out shadow maul and dark obliteration every time they're up.
The point? Burst damage doesn't mean much in a team anyway. Any halfway decently built team not run by incompetents is going to be steamrolling through content to the point that no one, and I mean NO ONE, would notice the difference if a DM/SD scrapper was suddenly replaced with a DM/SD brute.
The spawns aren't going to disappear any faster or slower either way.
It is ONLY when solo against a hard target that we can get into the nitty gritty of ST attack chains and average DPS.
There are two "Results" threads in the scrapper forum. The first one was based on fully IOed out builds with ridiculous recharge and an average 10% crits for scrappers.
The second was based on using basic IOs and a 7.5% crit chance.
In both threads, while brutes tend to come out on top, the differences are small enough to disregard.
Brutes are faster to solo pre-SO, they have higher base HP and can leverage inspiration use better due to higher mitigation caps. At the damage caps, they pull ahead further from scrappers, but how often do you really run around with 750 damage buff showing in your combat monitor unless you're runnin at x8 diff with a pocket kin? -
Negate,
A lot of people do hate it because it's so dreary. Some can't get past their own morality enough to play a villain. Some can't stand the reduced zone performance.
I honestly believe that the almost constant 2 to 1 ratio I've always seen between Blue and Redside will remain true until we can level 1 to 50 in Praetoria.
Me? I like redside because I hate blueside contacts and their constant abuse of the old "travel back and forth between zones every mission" time sink. -
The blaster, but it'll die more than the controller, thus lowering the DPS.

Quote:I have to disagree, my scrapper brother. Can't say I agree on that one. For AV soloing, endurance management is key and DN costs a lot for a minimal return (-tohit is heavily resisted to the point of being negligible, and -dam, while nice, isn't that useful for the endurance cost). Gloom is a powerful attack in DPA but terrible DPE. Dark Consumption alone won't be enough - it's actually not even enough to sustain the normal Smite MG Smite SL chain for me, at least without making unacceptable sacrifices in other areas of the build.
I much prefer the Mu Striker, which can be summoned at range and adds about 30 DPS during its 4 minutes duration, all for a one time fee of 26 end. That's pretty much the textbook definition of endurance efficiency here.
Gloom and DN are best left to teaming (that said, I'd rather have E. Fences and Ball Lightning there) or taking on +4/x8 stuff.
On my DM/WP brute, the difference between the hammering I receive from AVs without darkest night compared to with is quite noticeable. I mean.. it's a 21% damage debuff as per CoD. That's not petty mitigation.
And gloom... that thing turns an attack chain for a non-weapon set from good to "yougonnadieyougonnadieyougonnadie!!!"
I honestly can not see running my DM/WP brute without both of those in constant use.
EDIT: Yea, the end cost is high. I do have both stamina and QR 4 slotted with perf shifters including the +end proc on both. But it is SO worth it. -
Sometime this weekend I'll get a replacement thread put up.
Quick and dirty changes for now:
In CCC set both FSAA and Anisotropic Filtering to Let Application Decide. Manage them in game.
Disable all Occlusion as it isn't playing nicely with FSAA.
And really.. that's it. I was able to turn some Ultra mode item on with my old X800XT in my workstation, but performance took a dirt nap. There's a lot of threads floating around discussing what cards can handle what, and I'll try to consolidate some of that info in the new post. -
My hope on the Incarnate front is that BAB figures out how to completely remove redraw penalties from the weapon sets.
It'll be a big bummer to have to avoid using some signature attack because it kills Bill's DPS due to redraw. -

The ma/sd is pure concept. I'll be happy with whatever he manages to max out at. I've spent 5 years trying to find a concept that fit what *I* would be if suddenly back in great shape and dropped into Paragon City.
With the new punches in MA and a pothole cover for a shield, I finally got what I want. Some fisticuffs and a little shield bashing. Looks just like me. Or rather, would if I took the 30 pounds of fat covering my muscles and turned it into muscle.
