  1. A small turnout for the MA Superteam this weekend but some bright arcs as we turned the spotlight on The 'Distinguished Competition!'...arcs featuring a parody or homage of competing video games & super hero worlds.

The Inhumans, A Fun, Short, Solo Mission, ID #268085 by @GL Corps
    1 Mish, Villainous

City of Norms, ID #132944 by @Judgement Dave 2
    3 Mish, Neutral

For the love of Tronn, ID #149443 by @La Fey Esclave
    4 Mish, Neutral

Victors Online, ID #97980 by @Hellguard
    4 Mish, Heroic

This weekend's arcs represented a wide spectrum of diversity, from simple costume show-off beat 'em ups, to very detailed satire of the CoH culture.
The Inhumans... was a nice warm-up and very typical of what you would find in an homage AE arc. Not much story, but absolutely fantastic costumes! Note: in it's current incarnation it is an obvious copyright violation. Hopefully the author will update it before it gets locked. If you want to check out some incredible costumes, play it now!

City of Norms is a well-detailed, humorous and satirical look at CoH, it's competition, and the CoH community at large. There are so many levels of humor it's worth a replay or 2 to get all the jokes! Easter eggs galore and a MUST play if you're a regular forum-goer.

For the love of Tronn is a shining example of how to craft an homage arc and NOT violate copyright. It's especially noteworthy for it's stunning costumes, fast-paced play, and amazingly appropriate map choice. Note: mission 1 is a bit grindy and dull, but it makes mission 2 and the rest of the arc feel even more incredible in comparison. When I approached the first group of enemies in the 2nd mish, I literally OMG'd!! The User commands you: "Play this arc!"

And finally, Victors Online was one of those borderline arcs. It was pretty much the same concept as City of Norms, but not as fast-paced or detailed. There's still plenty of fun humor at the expense of CoH's online competitor, the CoH community, and Devs that make it work.
Honorable mention (that we ran out of time to play) goes to: "Heroes of the City Addiction", #88641 by @FatBaby
1 mish, Neutral. Another fun send-up of super hero games.

Next Saturday (2/26/11): Our theme will be Lions, Tigers, and BÆSTS!! Join us as we take one last look at the 'beastly' creations AE artists conjured up before the introduction of the Beast Pack!!

  3. Just re-watched the commentary version of the Wonder Woman animated flick that came out recently. They say over and over again how every fan has a diff opinion on how WW should be portrayed. It was kinda funny when they rattled off everything people expect her to be to make the point that if they gave the fans what they wanted she'd be boring as heck!!

I can only hope that the TV show producers put as much thought and care into their re-imagining as Timm & crew did.

    Great Interview

Interesting. Isn't this similar to how George RR Martin started the Wild Cards series of books?

His pen and paper superhero RPG group (who were other sci-fi authors) transferred their characters to short stories, then George edited them together and BAM! a franchise was born.

    Super Harmony!

WANT that bat-costume. Seriously, could that cowl be any cooler?
  6. Hopefully NBC learned something from the Bionic Woman reboot...

    Watson wins!

Actually, Jeopardy is more than just a quiz show esp. with it's word play and references to pop culture. That's why Watson's success is so surprising. It took a dedicated team 4 years to teach it 'common sense' ie. water is wet, which was key in making it a success at the game.

Of course, now that they've done it we're all obsolete.
  8. I'm on the fence with this project. Felicia Day is awesome but these kinds of genre projects usually end up like bad SciFi channel fodder...
  9. There was a lot of love on the MA Superteam this weekend as we got in the Valentine's mood with Love is in the AEer! Here's the romance-themed arcs that wooed us!

A Date With Lord Nemesis, ID #443473 by @Oreso
    1 Mish, Neutral

Forget the Rose, Send Me the Thorns, ID #8925 by @Hydrophidian
    3 Mish, Heroic

Take On Me, ID #40714 by @Holicaust
    1 Mish, Neutral

Young Love, ID #6391 by @TA
    4 Mish, Villainous

These 4 arcs run the gamut of romance, from online dating to love at first sight! Give 'em a spin and see if one reignites the spark in your game!
A Date with Lord Nemesis is especially creative in the presentation of the mission text, which is all told in 'tweets.' A nice spin on modern dating in the CoH universe.

Forget the Rose, Send Me the Thorns is an incredibly well-detailed, humorous and satirical look at love, Mission Architect, and the world of City of Heroes. A MUST PLAY for AE authors and enthusiasts!

If you grew up in the 80's then you already know the story from Aha's famous music video (yes MTV used to actually play videos, once!) Take On Me brings the video to life in a way only AE could! You will be amazed at how well it translates into an action-packed, humorous mission. There was speculation this mission may actually be a farm, but if it is, it's the 'raddest' one ever.

Our last arc, Young Love, may go down as the most controversial arc we've played since the 'wife in the fridge' storyline. A villainous arc with a moral choice in the last mission that may leave you feeling unclean in the end. Any arc that could elicit such emotional response from it's characters and storyline is definitely worth a spin.
If you've got time this Valentine's give 'em a spin and enjoy some guilt-free treats AE style!

Next Saturday (2/19/11): Our theme will be The 'Distinguished Competition.' Join us as we celebrate the arrival of a 3rd Super Hero game to the MMO landscape by spotlighting AE Creators' takes on other games & comic book universes! Join us as we get our parody/homage on!

Love is in the Error #26811
    (3 mish arc)
  12. 21 romance arcs down, 10 more to go before Saturday...

    (3 mish arc)
  13. I like the idea of giving people a reason to shop at brick & mortar comic stores, but an extra buck for the digital version of the physical comic you just bought?!? Really?

At almost $4/book these days, it should be INCLUDED in the comic price. And you just KNOW they'll find an excuse to raise that 99cent price a year or 2 down the road.

I looked back, seems they played it December of '09.

That was mostly the 'old guard' and I missed that day anyway. We've got a lot of new blood on the Superteam and a much more open attitude on the arcs we play.

I'll put it on my list to preview this week, I like a little Shakespeare
  16. I'm looking for some good Romance/Valentine themed arcs to play this weekend. If you have one or know of a good one please share it here.
  17. Are you ready for some MA!!!

It was a sportacular MA Superteam Saturday this weekend as we celebrated the upcoming Super Bowl with Super Sports Saturday! We scoured the AE system for football and sports-related arcs and found a goldmine of creativity!

Kidnap the Super-Brats, ID #358532 by @Kid Voodoo
    1 Mish, Villainous

The Sports Force Five, ID #110262 by @Devcon
    5 Mish, Heroic

Revenge of the Dweebs, ID #168266 by @Honorable Dr. Freeze
    3 Mish, Heroic

Go Team Vampiri!, ID #57956 by @Gila
    4 Mish, Neutral

All 4 of these arcs are very well crafted and (most important) fun!
Kidnap the Super-Brats can be a little challenging in difficulty, but canon ties and custom enemies are outstanding in this fun and villainous 1 mission arc where you kidnap a local school's top athletes. Can you figure out their ties to Paragon's greatest heroes?

The Sports Force Five is an action-packed introduction of a sports themed super team that's geared towards lower level players and is "out of the park" fun!

Revenge of the Dweebs wins my "Best Football Costume in AE" award. The premise is simple but it's a creative and enjoyable arc. And did I mention the football costumes?!?

And Go Team Vampiri! takes a fun, villainous spin on football with a charmingly evil contact and surprising ties into game canon! You vill enjoy ziss arc, trussst meh!
Give 'em a run and have a ball!

Next Saturday (2/12/11): In honor of Valentine's Day our theme will be Love is in the AEer! with a selection of the best romance arcs AE has to offer. Won't you be our AE Valentine and join us?!

  19. I have to thank whomever it was that posted the link to the NHL Guardian Project last month. The video from the All-Star game was incredible and now they've posted 30 free 6-page comics in pdf.

I still don't care about hockey, but this promo is awesome!

  22. It was a fun MA Superteam Saturday this week as we had a new member try it out (glad you made it Supa!) This week's theme was Wingin' it! where we really had no plan and made something up on the spot!

I took the opportunity to dust off an old-school arc that I haven't gotten around to playing yet and one of my fav villain arcs:

To Be Monkey King, ID #180651 by @Glitterama
    4 Mish, Heroic

Jenkins' Guide to Villainy, ID #84008 by @Circuit Boy
    4 Mish, Villainous

Both arcs are action packed, humorous and well detailed with pop culture references and tongue in cheek jokes! Monkey King is probably better suited for a small team than soloist, as the custom group can hit pretty hard. And Jenkins' Guide is a must for any player that's ever wanted to strangle their contact!

Give 'em a run and see for yourself!

Next Saturday (2/5/11): to celebrate the upcoming Superbowl, our theme will be Super Sports Saturday! Come join us as we see if we can find some sports themed arcs worthy of Lombardi!
