equally annoying? Stand in one spot, turn on an 'offensive' PBAoE aura power like Icicles or Hot Feet or Choking Cloud and then see how many emotes work for you. Completely kills wonderful setups for screenshots, such as my Fire/Rad Controller standing at the middle of her Hot Feet/Choking Cloud auras doing the 'jugglefire' emote while her Fire Imps dance around slapping a bunch of random mobs twisted up by the AoE hold and locked down with Fire Cages.
[/ QUOTE ]
No reason that Icicles or Choking Cloud shouldn't work with emotes. I will need to make a small change to Hot Feet though...I've been trying to fix these 'offensive' toggles as I find them so that they don't put you into a permanent combat state while active.
I'm actually a bit puzzled because most emotes should now work even while in combat mode. There should even be a number of emotes that work while in shield combat mode.
Have you tried in Issue 15? -
[ QUOTE ]
I guess it's nice they had time to add new random visual effects to the alakazamreact emote.
But when are they going to allow the juggling emotes to be used while Hovering?
I suppose a person could easily argue that both of these emote QoL improvements are highly questionable uses of the Devs' time and effort. But at least having versions of the juggle emotes that work while Hovering would seem a tiny tad bit more visually satisfying (if that's the right term) than the alakazamreact emote being random. Oh well.
Hovering while doing the CardTrick or ThrowConfetti emotes look so dang cool.
I'm sure juggling while Hovering would look equally nifty.

Er? That should work. I'll look into why it's not. -

The weapon models are effects, not polygonal additions.
[/ QUOTE ]I don't know how you came to that conclusion, since it's not true.
[/ QUOTE ]
O rly?
The weapons are just effects. Yes they are technically made of polygons, but they exist no more than flaming hands do. You cannot drop your weapon.
Sledge Hammer WEAPONS/Custom_Mace/Male_Mace_Sledgehammer01.fx
It is an effect drawn on top of your character model, not an independant object added to game.
[/ QUOTE ]
True story.
When I was first playing around with customizable weapons, I at one point had it so the weapon could be dropped into the world, as a physics geo, whenever you died. Unfortunately, there's no way of getting said physics geos to inherit the color tinting, so I scrapped the whole thing.
Custom weapons are technically costume pieces, and FX scripts, animated entities, and also geometry. Some of them also have particles.
So everyone's right...except for you *points to that one guy*
And no, scabbards, holsters, quivers, etc are not simple or quick to do for reasons that I don't care to get into right now. Yes, I know...everyone in game wants them, has been demanding them for years, and there's undoubtedly some other game already out or coming out that had them.
I think that about covers everything. -
[ QUOTE ]
I was thinking when a hero or villain draws out his/her sword or gun where does it come from??? I was wondering why dont they have a holster or something to put there weapons into and so its visible. there can be different holster costume parts and ect. if you don't like the holster idea please think about making weapons visible on either the characters back or waist (should have choice based on player).
Think about this!!

[/ QUOTE ]
Nope... sux to be a bug-soldier of Arachnos, doesn't it?
[/ QUOTE ]
I might be able to put something together. I only did the two for Kheldians because someone suggested it, and there was already animation/VFX there for shape-changing. VEATs don't have any sort of shape-changing powers to pull directly from. -
Can't tell you guys how many times I've been hidden, hanging out in a populated area, trying to test an emote...and mistyped it, revealing to everyone in the area that there's an invisible redname.
So, I like this suggestion...and I'm going to pass this suggestion along to programming...but I can't say how difficult it might be to actually implement, whether they have time to do so, or if they even think it's a good idea as well. -

[/ QUOTE ]
I hope that's cut. I'd prefer that the choice of whether a character switches sides or not was done based on character-based reasons, not what rewards they might or might not get a shot at.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the idea here is that if you have a hero character, who's never going to 'go rogue' and become a villain, you could instead continue to do heroic things and eventually become an exemplary hero...at which point, you'd have access to rewards not available in other ways.
Whereas exemplary villains would just get shafted cause we hate them. -

Going Rogue is *not* Issue 16, per Positron. (Linky).

Not really. Going Rogue is *not* an issue, it is an expansion. So Going rogue would come in between issues whether it be between i15 and 16 or i16 and 17 or further down the line..

Technically, don't all issues come between other issues? -

BTW BackAlleyBrawler's comments about the "pipeline" to the powers are entirely non-sensical. Soft coding *means* dynamic (as opposed to hard coding where values are placed directly). Sort of reminds me of that 90 year old senator who was trying to describe the Internet by saying it wasn't a dump truck (boggle).
[/ QUOTE ]
[/ QUOTE ]
I've always used the term 'hard coded' to refer to anything that's explicitly defined in the source code and compiled into the executable. Most of the assets used by the various systems (powers, animation, VFX) we work with are not 'hard coded' but are what I've always called 'soft coded', in that they reference scripts and data outside of the compiled code. That jives with the wikipedia definition of soft-coding, take that as you will.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Softcoding
You might see this as still being hard coded, but as a developer I can change most of this data in real time, while the game is running, by modifying an external script...which is about as dynamic as it can be. Not really much difference between modifying a script or modifying a chunk of data saved on the character database through...say...the costume editor. -

Every time some of us pointed out the detailed plans laid out in the August survey, many of you were quick to say "Hey that was just marketing folks regurgitating all our wish lists. No way all that stuff is planned!" Let's do a little review:
MA: Check.
Side switching in Going Rogue: Check.
Power customization in i16: Check.
But I'm sure we'll never see a Spy archetype or universal enhancement slots, right? If only they had put items on that survey that the devs were actually planning on implementing!
[/ QUOTE ]
It would be a big mistake to take that marketing survey as a roadmap for future content. I can think of at least 2 things that were on there that were either radically changed or outright cut, and a bunch of stuff that's not on there, but are being worked on right now. -

Back Alley Brawler had already made a post about this, stating that is was possible, and doable, that it would only take a minimal effort on their part to do.
My question is why wasn't this done? Granite is so bland, I look exactly the same as the other 6 stone brutes when I'm chilling around the AE water cooler. It would definitely benefit from sprucing up.
[/ QUOTE ]
First off, I don't recall ever saying this...and I seriously doubt I would say anything like 'minimal effort'.
Having things like wings or auras carry over into Granite Armor is possible, much in the same way that seeing mankind one day walk on the surface of Mars is possible. However, as I mentioned in the response to your PM, it's not currently supported.
We do support persisting custom weapons--which are as much a costume piece as wings and auras--into Granite Armor mainly because we kind of had to. But that is a hardcoded exception. I don't know if the same kind of exception could be made for Wings and Auras (it seems to me that it could) but I don't know that for a fact and I don't know what the ramifications of doing so would be.
As others have pointed out, turning on Granite Armor actually functions by changing your entire costume into the 'costume' of an NPC. That is an attribute of the power itself, even outside of the scripts associated with powers that define animations or visual effects. Granite Armor, Dwarf Form, and Nova form are pretty unique in this regard. -
For those still with us (all of you who haven't already canceled your accounts due to impending nerfs related to your choice of power colors)...
[blink]THIS WHOLE THREAD IS A JOKE[/blink] -
So here's the deal. Mentally, I think of these particular powers as not actual weapons. It's the element being wielded in the a manner similar to how you'd wield a weapon. So "Stone Melee" isn't actually a mallet made of stone.
Yes, it's vague and subjective...but it's one of the rationalizations I have for why there these particular powers don't require a 'draw' animation, and why they don't support 'weapon' customization...even though there's not a technical restriction or limitation for either of those things. -

Since changing you colors will be -20% damage how many of the non-carebears will actually do this?
[/ QUOTE ]
That 20% is a maximum value. Remember, it scales depending on how far you deviate from the correct color.
[/ QUOTE ]
You are misleading them with this statement, you forgot to tell them the correct color is NOT the base one all start with and they have to guess what the correct color is. Imagine my surprise while playing mega-closed-beta and find that the "correct color" for dark melee was bright pink.

Swipe like animation plays when toggling on defensive toggle.
AT: Stalker
Powersets: Claws/Ninjitsu
If I have my claws out and I am in the passive stance when I activate Danger Sense a swipe animation plays. Could be WAI but seems more like a bug as it animates normally without the claws, or if I'm still in the crouched stance that first drawing the claws puts you into.
I have a huge model, and I'm using the viper claws, I have not checked it with other custom claw types.

Use this thread to report any issues with visual effects (VFX) in CoH. This would include everything from effects from player powers, enemies, or sound effects. Please give us as much detail as you think we might need to replicate the bug.
If it's a player power, be sure to let us know what Archetype you're playing and any other powers that you might be using that could be contributing to the problem.
Please refrain from making subjective comments about VFX or sounds in this thread. I'm not interested in hearing about how it doesn't make sense for Rage to be a big yellow glow, or how you refuse to play Stone Armor because of the way Granite Armor looks. All I'm looking for is 'This effect, in this circumstance, doesn't work the way it should'.
Also, it would great if you could take a quick scan through the thread and make sure that the bug hasn't already been reported. If you've got more information to add to something that's already in here, such as 'This also happens for Dominators', then feel free to add your comments. I do not need a dozen "QFT" replies, thank you very much.
I can't make any guarantees that we'll be able to fix everything in a timely manner, but having everything consolidated here, in one thread, will greatly improve the chances of that happening.
Thanks for your help in making this the best game we can. -
Things have gotten a bit hectic lately and I no longer have the same luxury of combing through various sections here on the forums looking for bugs to fix. So I'd ask that you guys use this thread to report any issues with animations in CoH.
This could be anything from odd behavior from an NPC that's spawned in the world, an emote, or player powers. Please give us as much detail as you think we might need to replicate the bug.
If it's a player power, be sure to let us know what Archetype you're playing and any other powers that you might be using that could be contributing to the problem. Especially toggle powers, such as Flight or a Shield toggle power.

What's an iPod? *Still listen to 8 Track.*
[/ QUOTE ]
My first car, that I drove to high school in the early 90s, was a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis and it had a functioning 8 track player. It was later given to one of my uncles who turned it into a shrimp boat (the car, not the 8 track player.) I've always assumed he did this by simply attaching some nets to it, since it was already fairly boat-like.
Some may wonder..."BABs! What the heck are you posting this for, here in the Guardian forums?"
The answer is, cause some of the people over in Justice are getting all cocky about the number of viewers their section has right now, and I'm proving a point that maybe that has more to do with a link to their section through the dev digest than how awesome Justice is. Don't get me wrong...Justice is awesome. But all the servers are awesome in their own way.
"But BABs...why change the title of the subject line?"
Cause I really want to prove the point. *waves to all the people looking for details about the expansion*
"But BABs...that's cheating!"
Yes. -
[ QUOTE ]
BaBs is probably muzzled from saying anything it about this until Posi has.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not going to comment on it for two reasons.
One, it's way outside of my department. I wasn't involved in the decisions and know absolutely nothing about what was done to who or why (outside of very broad generalities that everyone is already aware of).
Two, it's entirely a customer service issue. It's against the forum rules to discuss customer service issues here on the forums. And whether anyone wants to believe it or not, I'm just as beholden to the rules of these forums as the rest of you.
I was perusing this thread, saw reference to 'Man of La Mancha'--a play that my wife did props for in college--and pointed out that the Golden Helmet of Mambrino was actually a shaving basin.
I probably should have paid more attention to the original topic of the thread and the unintended attention that having a link to an OT post in the Dev Digest would bring to it, and for that I apologize. -

P.S. Someone get Sexy Jay to whip up one of those Spanish conquistador helmets real quick for me, please.

I'd figure broadsword & shield for Don Quixote Flea mostly for the look. And it seems to me that Red Sancho ought to be either a defender or controller of some sort. I'm leaning toward a controller so that I can both help you out & get you out of the trouble you will inevitably get yourself into.
