  1. I think this thread is a pretty good example why the Devs need to look into a lot of revamping beyond just starter content.
  2. Good coverage... I really need to start getting in on these so I can ask my own questions...
Like if we'll ever get the rest of the CoT costume pieces.
Hell, I'd settle for them just being available in AE right now, my customized CoT faction looks like they're made up of damned Philistines with their short skirts and lacking tall hats!
  3. Malta hasn't been a stealth ops group since they've been introduced.
I mean COME ON! They have OUTDOOR SPAWNS IN PEREGRINE AND USE ONE TO FIVE STORY TALL ROBOTS!
They also do not have snipers, strangely.
  4. so earlier I was trying to make a custom CoT group (because fighting followers, behemoths, more behemoths, ice thorn casters, and death mages gets boring) in AE and I REALLY would like to reiterate my wish for the rest of the CoT pieces.

And then when the Keyes trial came around, he's positively genocidal. Mother messing around in Keyes' head, maybe?
    I'd say he's just frustrated and PO'd.
I mean as he spells out: he's lost his praetorship to a guy who really is his inferior and only beats him because Neuron can steal his ideas and submit them faster, after the guy who took his Praetorship fails horribly, he's still passed over by Cole and everyone else is getting handed out pieces of the Incarnatedom pie but him.
He's also helped develop a lot of the tech used by the IDF but apparently has been given zero credit, he's been repeatedly humiliated, and has basically been pushed out of the way by Cole onto his reactor island.
And now, the same group of people who have already had a pretty decent record of dismantling Praetorian stuff have come for his reactors. As he puts it: They're his legacy, they're the ONLY thing all of Praetoria gives him credit for, and they're the only major accomplishment he has that Praetor Berry cannot steal.
And let's be honest, he probably knows he has no chance with Praetor Duncan but can only cling to a mad hope.

It would fit perfectly with Lord Recluse's personality. He doesn't care if you want to leave the Rogue Isles, YOU CANNOT leave (alive) without his permission or taking some backdoor like Submariner Jensen, Pocket D, the Vanguard base, or the Midnighter Club.

Technically not. I mean you end up fighting the Resistance a lot in the First Ward, you end up fighting them in the Maria Jenkins arcs, and you fight them in the BAF (admittedly not by their own will).
I think it's safe to say that by the First Ward, you literally have to stand out on your own side outside of Cole or Calvin, because both have gone off their respective deep ends and decided to go around the office one morning and shoot anyone genuinely trying to do something good for Praetoria that hadn't already left.

The world is going to continue to suck no matter what, so the audience (or player in this case) has no incentive to care or emotionally invest at all.

So, along comes First Ward, the developers' first chance to address the problem, and they...twist the knife in the wound and then pour salt and lemon juice on it. As a player the content is sufficiently bleak (and sufficiently difficult) that I have no reason to want to go through it again (played it all in beta). From an in-character perspective my Primal characters have no incentive to go there (they have their own world to protect, thank you very much) and my few Praetorians (one, actually) would take one look at First Ward and execute a different trope: Screw This, I'm Outta Here.
Well, while the point of the First Ward and the rest of Praetoria is despair, there is a flipside to my own argument, at least on the in-character front, and that is: Fight anyway because it's the right thing.

I can safely say that my heroic characters would, even knowing how it would end, still keep fighting. Besides, sure Praetoria's doomed, but things aren't looking much brighter for Primal Earth when it faces a new doomsday scenario every hour and none of the heroes who are supposed to be strong enough to stop these scenarios do anything more than stand around inside their yellow rings.

I will say to the OP what I've said to others, I think the underlying theme of the First Ward is despair, and that no power we ever gain will ever undo what has been wrought on that land.
  10. I'm going to say something else on the voices...
i have a weakness for voice acting and would love to see more of it in the future... If I could record from my place, I'd love to audition for some voice roles for paragon studios. Oh! Oh! And if only we could get some quality voice actors doing some rolls in the game like Johnny Young Bosch or Tara Strong.
I guess they don't come cheap but I can dream, right?
I think I'll do just that.
    /em sleep
Mmmm... Yes, Christopher Lee Nemesis, tell me all about your plan while Morgan Freeman Sefu Tendaji and Samuel L Jackson Dark Watcher berate you as a fool...

Praetoria's not a mirror. Phipps is probably exactly the same, or worse, in Praetoria.
Actually, a truly opposite Westin would probably be a Responsibilities loyalist. He genuinely believes he's doing good, but in the end he's ultimately causing some of the worst things to happen in Praetoria.
  12. You see, in my mind, the crime in Paragon isn't nearly as bad as what we see in the game.
It's just that way so everyone can get a chance to play as well as play through a bit differently.
No there's not a purse snatcher on every corner, that's just for the player running street sweeps and hunts. No, the world is not always doomed, your character's story is self-contained, anything you didn't do didn't happen.

At least that's how it seemed for the OLD OLD issue 1 and older.
With more recent designs, the devs have wised up and decided to streamline things so it is possible to do all the content in a level range, difficult but not impossible, and the storylines would go on without you, you apathetic jerk!

But I still don't think there's nearly as much crime or as many criminals as we see in game. Probably only an sixteenth to an eighth of the street crime in a realistic viewing, and the latter would probably be the hazard zones, and there'd probably be no mission with more than a hundred dudes inside, discounting things like robots and such.

The seer facility was basically gutted. D.U.S.T., Arclight, etc, were all pretty well wiped by the apparitions, so I can't imagine they just left katie plugged in after the threat of the Talons was quashed.

the ending did seem kind of abrupt though and definitely left room for them to expand the story. It feels like you stopped *a* threat to First Ward, but didn't do much else.
of course you didn't. The threat of the apparitions is not only still at large, but still steadily being made thanks to Mother Mayhem. And according to the thing Diabolique showed you, she may not only be aware of the damage she's causing, but enjoying causing it and even Diabolique is powerless to stop her and her own control over the apparitions is limited at best.

I strongly suspect the next Incarnate trial will be dismantling the Mother of Mercy hospital itself.
  14. now despite my unresearched previous statement, I will say I can agree with a lot of it.

While Sam's point can be responded with "there it's only as uninvolved as you let it be", it would be nice to have something that makes you feel like your playing a roll in this world shaking event.
Let us bust up the meteors (it worked in the Ouro arc), put in downed civilians surrounded by spawns we can save, have random stores with a glowie inside thaty we can 'loot' for cash or supplies!

What if instead of a hero like blue spectrum, we got a soldier who we either let die or help out and completion of either gives us a Target Painter temp power TO CALL THE AIR STRIKES OURSELVES! Think of how awesome that would be?

Oh, and I love the proposal for a bigger map with more familiar landmarks, that's a major problem I do have with the new tutorial. Because they both revamped Galaxy AND destroyed it at the same time, I have not much of a way to measure just how much of this familiar place am I looking at being wrecked, and don't tell me 'new players won't notice' they'll can go to the Galaxy City echo and see what doesn't add up!
Whew I play the tutorial, it feels less like Galaxy has been attacked and more like some strange new city zone I've never heard of, and no, the 'Galaxy Girl' statue in the background of the Giant Shivan battle does not help when despite how nice the story for Galaxy Girl is, her statue is one of a hundreds more copy and paste landmarks found in any part of blue or redside.

But, despite what we may ask or want, it's already been done, they didn't listen back in beta and I can't imagine the devs doing anything now. Just like the CoT pack or the removal of the Vanguard backpacks, I can't help but just see in my mind that the Devs often just see player comments, critiques, or remarks, put on a pair of sunglasses, and say: "Deal with it."

And perhaps the toughest part is, even if we do just deal with it, even if the devs do take this to mind for the next implementation, the next update's going is going to be it's own thing that no amount of heeding words of the past will help with and thus a new can of worms gets opened.
So what can either players or developers do? Throw up our hands and slam the game against the wall and pretend it never existed? Spend the time and resources on basically revamping content maybe a month old tops?
In hindsight, it seems like a painful catch 22 situation with no victory for either player or developer.

It's a good thing I've cast aside my old dream of becoming a videogame developer because I think my heart would quickly break.

When you think about it, where would you need a carnival more than a world where all color and genuine happiness are sucked away?
  16. As the title suggests: if we could expand the function of in-game email to allow us to send the data for AE critters, Costume files, and Power Customizations, it would truly be an invaluable tool! (or moreso than it already is)

What is more likely the case is that the pieces in question clash with over 20% of the other pieces in that area (cutting through geometry, in general looks really bad). In these cases we reserve the right to withhold these pieces in order to maintain the good looking characters you guys are capable of.

Not an answer that will make everyone happy, but we do our best to ensure that a vast majority of our costumes, current, past, and future, work with everything else. Not everything will fit the bill, and just work with one or two other pieces, but that is a situation we work hard to avoid in the first place. Sometimes a look just has to win out though, and the piece gets made anyway. It's just that we work under slightly different guidelines when concepting and making parts for an NPC group than we do for PC costumes.
So, just to clarify on what I'm inferring from this post, are you saying even YOU don't know why most of the pieces were pulled?

Only one from Positron, and it strongly implies even he has no idea why a lot of the pieces were removed. So it wasn't a developer decision it seems.
Though he maintains Paragon Studios has a right to withhold pieces so we can "look as cool as we can be."

Here's hoping that the next villain group design revamp will not restrict the best pieces to the NPCs.
or at the very least, they'll actually know why we can't have the costume pieces and tell us rather than guess.

    My predictions:

-As Golden Girl said, we'll probably face Malaise, Mother Mayhem, and Calvin Scott all in one trial where Scott finally goes off the edge. For my own input, I theorize that we will also be freeing Praetorian Penelope Yin and giving her Vanessa Devour's mask. (Because she both needs it more and the psychic boost she would receive would make her more useful. Plus, she seems to have a Carnie mindset already of being a little insane)

-Infernal, Black Swan, and Diabolique will be fought in one magical themed trial, possibly actually taking us out of Praetoria and into either the Shadow World or another highly mystical world where the three are trying to gain more power for themselves, but maybe not for Praetoria.

-Tyrant, Chimera, and Domi will NOT be fought in a trial, but instead at the end of a special TF that involves making the last assault on Praetoria to beat back the invasion once and for all.
I predict two fights against Cole, one involving him forcibly trying to take more power from the Well than it wants to give him and being some grotesque, Angelic Templar-thing. May or may not get voice acted during the fight with insane rants like:
"DEATH TO ALL WHO OPPOSE THE GOD OF THE NEW WORLD!"
  22. Short answer: It's still the mask of Giovani Scaldi. And her parties were often considered "carnivals" do to their scale and... uhh... festive-ness.

Though it does make one wonder about the nature of Giovani Scaldi herself in Praetoria, since she was kind of evil in our world.
