Just a note: If there are any new elements (missions) in this year's spring event please allow adequate time for TESTING. Don't put this thing on test on 2/9/11, and then push it out on 2/10/11.
thanks. -
Quote:Although I agree he was a bit overdramatic, (and another word I can't use for his silly idea of letting just a game breaking bug stay live) I think you need to recognize that the reason that there was no one to test with on TEST was because the patch was released during a double xp weekend. This is just a tad overdramatic. I could probably do a whole page but I'll just go over the key argument points.
You'd leave the bug up just to spite people; great. You're considering quitting over something that didn't even affect you anyway. Testing is a two-part process and when I got on test there was nobody around to run a TF with to properly test things. Basically every issue has launched with a bug of some time and the nature of testing means 10 people can find some bugs; thousands of people will find all the bugs. It's impossible to test for every possible situation before launching unless you want releases to take 6 months each. If you're going to quit, do me a favor and give me your stuff.
They should have waited a WEEK (and I don't know who they are--I'm assuming it was marketing/NCSoft and not the dev team) AFTER dxp was done so that enough people could then go onto test and run the tfs there. Also note that the WTS should have been announced on TEST as soon as the patch was dropped on TEST.
Doing that the bug would have been caught almost immediately. You're right it is a two way process, but only when the testing process is allowed to work. Rushing it on TEST during a dxp weekend and not even keeping the patch on test for a week was DIRECTLY responsible for the problem that was cured by the devs with yesterday's patch.
I don't blame the players for this going to live with such a show stopping bug. AT ALL. -
Pretty much my guess as well.

Quote:Agreed. I'm more excited by the Animal Pack coming up than running the same old content I have done repeatedly.Eh, this isn't really content, at least to me. It's the old content, with some mechanics added to encourage people to do them again.
I like it, but it's not really content. Order is awkward [as I've posted elsewise], but I imagine that's simply because I20 wasn't coming out as soon as they had hoped. Or they really wanted 'something' for 7 year.
As an aside, I haven't done the Tin Mage and Apex TFs much if at all yet. I want to have a lot to do come Issue 20. I burned through tips, Amerits and Pratoria a lot faster than I thought I would. -
Yeah it's not really the devs fault that this was rushed out. Methinks marketing or the NCSoft Overlords might have something to do with it.
-
I think marketing or NCSoft forced their hand on this. The devs were NOT given adequate time to test this. I had just FINALLY gotten TEST downloaded on my new laptop, when boom, I see that Issue 19.5 is live.
I was like, "less than a week of testing?"
The higher ups really should have given them more testing time.
Hopefully they can restore all the upper alpha tiers that vanished for people and fix the crashes without doing a rollback. -
I agree with Sam.
I'm more excited about the upcoming Animal Pack than the rest of the Alpha past uncommons.
Pleasantly waiting for I20 and more importantly the Judgement Slot.
EDIT: Also concerned about how fast this was pushed from test to live with all the crashing that's been listed in that other thread. -
LOL, it's not going live tomorrow. Seeing as how that's only Feb 1st.

Quote:Ahhh. Yeah that would be one way to do it.What I meant was: Run a TF of the week. The run itself yields no Shards if its lower level, but you get the Notice. THEN break apart the Notice for shards. Breaking a Notice of the Well yields 4-6 shards. That how much you get on average TF runs.
It would be a way for those that do not want the notice to get some shards. -
Quote:The trials will probably work like the rikti raids, thus giving solo player SOME way to get them. However, beyond that I don't expect any other solo Incarnate Content anytime soon. This is very fairly put, and I certainly encourage and hope for an option for solo players to be able to do anything.
I feel it's just the nature of MMO's that not everything in them will be possible exclusively solo. The way I understand it, the weekly TF is planned as a way to open up the higher Alpha tiers pre-i20; once that Issue is released soloists would have other options to gain access to them.
-
Quote:Ummm, I was under the impression that the devs didn't want folks speed running, seeing as how they already nerfed merit rewards at least once since the tf merit system came out.LOL. It is the right way when it is the way you prefer. Nice.
Though I think that philosophy has changed. -

Quote:lol, actually there is some evidence that's is older than that. But nothing definitive. The age of the universe is "unknown". But there is good reason to believe it is 13.6 billion years.
It's actually more certain then when a lot of half finished or abandoned systems will ever see attention in this game again. You know, pvp, bases, more power cust.
I think Zombie's definition of unknown in this case is spot on. -
Quote:Well stated.Think we need a FAQ for this. But rather than try to frame everything in Q & A format, here's just the As:
WRT Alpha Slot's Soloability:
1. The first two tiers of the Alpha Slot are soloable.
2. The third and fourth tier, which gives the Level Shift and extra and more powerful universal enhancements, is not soloable and will not be soloable for I19.5. Your toon will have to participate in at least one Task/Strike force for a Notice of the Well which is necessary to craft tiers 3 & 4. The Notices are not obtainable in any other way, not even by crafting. The third tier is gated by 1 Notice of the Well. The fourth by 3 more. Obtaining the Notices is also gated by time: only 1 per week.
3. It is unknown whether when I20 comes or at some time after that that tiers 3 & 4 will ever be soloable. It is unknown. Unknown. The Developer, Black Scorpion, has posted that the Devs are aware of a desire for soloability of the upper tiers and the Devs will look into it. There has been no promise that it will even happen at all, let alone when.
WRT the Soloability of the Other Slots.
1. It has been mentioned that there will be a Raiding System introduced in I20 and in future issues that will be part of the End Game Content that will open up the other slots.
2. Raiding implies teaming and not any soloable content.
3. There has been no mention of any soloable content apart from raiding that will allow solo-only players to obtain and slot the other Incarnate Slots. None. That doesn't exclude solo content when I20 goes live or at some time in the future, but there's been no confirmation of new solo Incarnate content.
4. What Black Scorpion said about the Devs looking into player concerns with regard to the upper tiers of the Alpha Slot probably encompasses looking into all of the Incarnate system.
This is the current situation. There are unknowns. A thread was started so the Devs could read player feedback on this issue here. -
Quote:Errrr the way I read Black Scorpion's announcement it seems like COMPLETING the tf of the week will give you the NOTICE, and the other RARE component. NO where did I see it say that shards will start to drop from non-50 content/tfs. Seeing as how shards AREN'T currently a reward option at the end of regular 50 tfs, I think you're assuming just a bit too much.Given that only level 50 give shards, breaking them down is also a way to get shard for doing non-50 content, as long as its the TF of the week.
Seems like a good idea.
The only reward (until confirmed) from non-50 WTS tfs would probably be the DOUBLE merit rewards of those tfs/sfs. -
Quote:It's what I'm betting on. Not really a solo path, but soloable enough that I'm fine waiting till I20 for more uber crafting, errr, Incarnate loot.As they've already set up the Winter Realm, the Rikti Mothership and the Halloween Banners to allow people to join in even when solo, and added new tech in I19 with the Praetorian events to give out rewards based on individual player contribution to the events, then it's quite possible that the Incarnate Trials could follow the same pattern, and not require teaming to take part in them.
-
With what Wizard devolved into, not really sad to see it go.
-
-
It should be a FEATURE of bases, so that they aren't the useless pieces of space they currently are. (Unless you have a SOLO base there is nothing useful currently in bases to make me want to turn on prestige for any reason any longer, not since Oroborus arrived, and certainly not since I19 connected many of the transit hubs.)

Quote:I have a feeling this would be very difficult to implement, but would not mind if they did this. I would argue you'd HAVE to respec into it to get this option, the same way you have to respec to get inherent stamina now.You know, we could have our cake and eat it too. See the epic ATs or now DP's "pick this power and get N more". Have the "shield" powers grant two sub-powers. One is your standard, run of the mill shields like now. The other is the end-hog, large-range, sight-limited PBAoE buff. Done! Pick which you want to use!
There's some slotting concerns there (you can now slot more +def or +res sets in the two powers). On the flip side if you wanted both you'd have to spend extra slots. I don't see that being a total showstopper. They'd have to make sure they two buffs (ST/AoE) didn't stack from the same caster, but that shouldn't be *that* hard. If it happens to clear up how buffs do and don't stack (the double-stack zoning, the don't-vengeance-till-the-last-is-down-or-it-is-wasted) to something a bit more consistent... that'd also be a nice QoL improvement. -
Quote:For SOME players. Not saying it'd be a really big part of the overall revenue....but their "PvP Revenue" would certainly go up. And PvP is a big marketing draw.
Not all.
With that said Positron's post clearly confirms for me AGAIN that they really didn't understand pvp before they introduced the horrid I13 system. And they still don't. -

Quote:It will happen but just not soon. I think they want to focus on building up the actual CONTENT we can do teaming wise to be just two tfs before they tackle that aspect. I assume if such a mission or arc (missionS? arcS?) come that it won't be at least until issue 22 or some such later date.Un-bolded for the sake of discussion. This, really, is what I hope will happen. You say this with certainty, but right now I'm more inclined to say it with doubt, in the "I'll believe it when I see it" sense. Really, though, that's I've ever asked - Incarnate content, defined as requiring Incarnate powers and narratively assuming such - that can be done solo and would offer a more certain way of obtaining Shards than having to rely on random drops that seem to hate me.
I have my doubts that this will ever happen, but if it does I intend to apologise and eat crow as I should. -
Quote:Yes COH is probably the most soloable game in the history of mmos.To be honest, sometimes I wonder how much of this game's success is due to how good it is and how much is due to the fact that basically the sum total of our competition is complete garbage and consists of essentially a completely different type of game.
Because, yes, I have tried the competition, and if ever I had gripes about soloability here, those pale in comparison to those same gripes in every other MMO ever made in history.
A fact I find hilarious with some of the arguments being made here.
For the longest time the devs focused on most soloable content. The words "End Game" didn't even enter into their vocabulary.
I have NO PROBLEM with them adding some moderately difficult endgame content that focuses on teaming after YEARS (literally) of NOT doing so.
And I say this as a person with a child now and extreme work hours.
Eventually soloable endgame content that requires you to have something slotted (and as far as I'm concerned THIS MUST be a requirement as it's one for the teaming Incarnate Content) will come. For now if they want to focus on the more group oriented content I have no issue with that.
I would however, NOT be opposed to them adding in a soloable, guaranteed SINGLE shard per completion missions or arcs. Stick a soloable EB in there and call it a day. (Just make sure it can't be farmed too much. Maybe only make it completable once every 7-12 hours)
Also to Golden Girl, you are very close to ending up on my ignore list as well. (and that's saying something as I've ignored ONE person in 6 years posting here). STOP. You're not funny.
