Some parts of the zone creeped me out, which is a good thing!!! Means its immersive.
A+ devs. -
Quote:Seeing as how COH doesn't have a various hacks that have existed since beta and never been fixed, unlike that game, yeah, I think COH has nothing to fear.If you're talking about a certain superhero MMO, its press release said "late October", so the CoH devs still have time. I'm sure Freedom will launch before that regardless, so I don't see that as a reason to spring Freedom on us without an announcement. Jewish New Year still looks like a good target date.
And I'm definitely going to check that superhero MMO when it goes free, but from what I've read CoH doesn't have that much to fear.

Quote:This with a nice large steaming helping of ******* to who ever is showing such d-baggery.Let me get this straight, you are mad about not getting a name in a game you are quitting anyway? My sympathy for you knows no bounds.
P.S. If somebody wants to ego stroke themselves by taking my namesake on a server I have zero desire to play on, then by all means do so. You won't even get a day old internet cookie from me for your effort.
It's not a punishable offense, but it shows how silly folks are if they think they can get in game (or out of game--which unless I'm mistaken WOULD be bannable) currency from the actual players with those names on other servers. -
Quote:I want a rideable War Walker. Here's the next travel power I want:
With a laser beam, of course...
I spent ten bucks on top of my stipend and have a few points left over. I suspect that I'll be dropping another ten to fifteen when Halloween arrives. The extra storage is still priced a bit high for my tastes. I can hold off on that until there's a sale on Paragon Points.
I hope that we get a really good item or two at Halloween. It's a bit strange to me that the "whale" items seem to be the costume powers. I think you might need to do better than that, but I suppose it's an easy way to start out with something sort of unusual and sort of unique (except for all of the limited time versions that will be out at Halloween). Some people do pay lots of real money to get the limted edition Pax and SDCC costumes, I guess.
Make it so devs. -

Interesting idea. With Dual Pistol's toggle changing damage type, that might be a way something like that could be implemented. However, I can see them creating a special AT (or powerset) to test out a mechanic like that first.
Actually thinking about it, such a mechanic might be useful to Stalkers. -
Personally I don't think you had anything to apologize for.
You stated that you didn't like the content they were releasing.
Since you often state when YOU DO LIKE what's being released I don't have an issue.
I never believed in this idea that you can ONLY praise or criticize an mmos' development team.
There's room for both.
As I've said before, MMOs should START to worry when players like you have no reaction at all. Positive or negative. -
"LOL PLAY THE WAY I PLAY DAMNIT"
I always found these threads amusing.
Unless you simply stop playing altogether (or unsub if you are subscriber) you're fine.
Anything else, you're doing it wrong.
I'd buy the "but they are spamming my chat window" argument if there weren't a myriad of ways to get the spam out of your chat window, of it b-cast weren't a cesspool of other inane things that really shouldn't be on b-cast, catgirl cyber being one of them. (Yes I recently saw this a few nights ago on B-CAST. People ragged at them for trying it, but the damage was done. I've also seen silly arguments about pvp, which is the best manga/anime/I despise anime battles, silly talk about how other games will kill COH, etc, etc, etc.)
"LF Farm", "lf paying lowbies" is the least of the problems with Atlas Park (or anywhere else) B-CAST. And get ready, you think it's bad now, wait until the Free aspect is finally launched.
This game's main competitor in this genre had the level and type of idiocy increase on their b-cast channel HEAVILY once the game went f2p.
Farm spam is the least of the issues with B-cast. -
Quote:Just an fyi, it no longer works in missions due to some technical issues the devs couldn't get around, but it works fine outdoors. If I end up with any disposable income in the near future, I plan on purchasing some of the attuned set enhancements.
When Street Justice comes out I plan on rolling a SJ/Invuln brute. I will be purchasing some of the attuned Reactive Armor to slot in his resistance powers. I'm kind of looking forward to enhancements that will level with me. So, I don't have any personal experience with them yet, but my initial impression is that they sound cool. There's not much in the store that I need or want, so most of my excess points will probably end up spent on stuff like that.
Oh, and the /auctionhouse command is AWESOME. I put a token in that slot immediately, and it is just too convenient to be able to sell off salvage while I'm inside a mission.
EDIT: LOL I type slow. And yeah it's still an awesome power. -

I have the patience of a semi-saint, soooo I'm fine waiting for some stuff to be discounted.
*looks at the enhancement slots* -

Quote:lol as for the bolded, you, myself, Arcanville, Bill and multiple others have been called dev sucks ups and angry dev haters so many times I think the terms no longer mean jack ****.Which is what makes you a great Lead. I'm not being facetious. One of the qualifications for the position is a very thick skin--realizing that at any given moment, half of the user base (if you're lucky it's only that many) is going to be calling for your head on a platter, yet still you get up every morning because you know that what you're doing is cool.
There's a huge difference between listening to the user base and being paralyzed trying to make everyone happy. I've always thought you guys do a good job at keeping things cool and moving.
But then, what do I know? I'm a dev suck-up.

Quote:QFMFT (in Samuel L Jackson voice). All Leads eventually get blamed for things that were well outside of their sphere of control. I've come to accept and deal with this.
Honestly as TonyV stated no lead dev is perfect and pulls in aggro from at least half (if luck, usually a lot more) the fan base from time to time.
Even our old "friend" (LOL) Jack pulled his share for stuff that rightly fully wasn't in his control.
(though some of it rightly fully was damnit.)

Quote:From what I'm getting Positron is once again Lead Dev. Just an fyi.with stuff being removed till "later" and this marty thing...shouldnt we get a word from our lead dev?
i mean i know shes busy but um.its pretty important stuff going on around here and wouldnt mind if she addressed some of this. no offense to the community reps. but frankly their just hired guns at best -
let them re-roll from level 1 with everything stripped if they want to change AT/powersets, fine. Accolades they can keep i don't care.
Absolutely UNSIGNED to nth degree with getting a buff for doing so.
SELLING the ability in store to do this, I'd be for. -
Quote:Ohhh I'm passionate about a lot of aspects of this game. This isn't one of them.I'm sorry that I cannot be as apathetic about this as you are. This game meant a lot to me, and so it makes me passionate.
I also understand that by posting on this forum and playing their game I give up SOME of what I wouldn't normally give up in the real world. This isn't the real world, this a private service run by a private company. If I really truly objected to that, and here's the kicker, I never would have started playing in the first place!
As has been shown already by the Supreme Court "our rights" works a little differently when dealing with a private entity.
EDIT: There have been times when a service I wanted to try had terms which I felt took more than I could approve of, then I choose NOT to use the service. I'm well within my rights not to use a service I feel is taking more than they should, as well as the service being well within their rights not to serve me for whatever reason, including not agreeing to their terms. -
Quote:Pretty much this. There are soooooo many other REAL WORLD rights being taken away that I'm concerned about that this doesn't even rank in the top 1000.For what it's worth, I actually agree with Westley. The EULA is a joke. In fact, all modern EULAs are a joke. Unfortunately, in today's society which is ruled by lawyers, it's a joke we can't get away from.
I continue playing the game not because I think the EULA is a-okay, I don't. However, I do think that if NCsoft were to try to do something evil, I would pretty effectively be able to fight it. And if it's really evil, we could do more damage to their reputation by publicizing it than they could do to us through banning or other legal means.
So we live in this sort of mutually assured destruction scenario. I don't try to screw them over by cheating (can I? yes...), and they don't try to screw me over by taking over my machine (can they? yes...).
At the end of the day, though, I choose not to let my life to be ruined by the lawyers. I know that the management of Paragon Studios has zero interest in doing stuff the EULA claims they can. They just want to make a decent living by making a fun game. Likewise, I just want to play a fun game, so life goes on, ho hum.
I respect people for taking a stand for what they think is wrong in the world. But while I think these EULAs are wrong, I'm just not as passionate about it as others are. Trust me, though, I am passionate about other things that a lot of people are ho hum about, and I feel frustrated when people don't think it's as important as I do. But you know, that's what makes the world go 'round, different people having different priorities.
What's the worst that could happen? I no longer play COH. Other games out there. -
Quote:yeah there's plenty new. One can't seriously argue that.Beaten to the punch here, I but really don't understand how you can say that.
Before you even posted this, I mentioned specifically that the part about being able to look at any part of your computer's RAM or storage is new.
Now one could say it doesn't matter. There are no rights when dealing with a private company.
You choose to use their service, you abide by their rules. Not choosing to use their service, don't have to worry about their rules.
it's the same reason there is no freedom of speech on forums, roughly put.
EDIT: That EULA is a joke honestly. There is no way any of that could be enforceable. The ONLY enforceable part is the termination of your account. There's no if ands or buts about that. There is no RIGHT to play COH. They can choose to terminate your account or refuse to give you service, as their right as a private business. -
Quote:Or in effect allow you to play the game for free and pick and choose what you want to pay extra for.The design of Freedom isn't to benefit the players. It's to benefit the developers by increasing profits. We don't know if it does what it is designed to do unless the game closes down or the developers are open with profit figures.
I personally think the profit from new/returning player traffic will be relatively low but that the current subscribers will make up for that by spending in the store. Basically the whole model seems designed to make people subscribers and then get them spending extra in the store, in effect increasing your subscription without actually increasing it.
You have the choice to pay $0.00. -
Quote:This. I think one issue I do have is that alot of the info hasn't been consistent across all channels for long enough. For some time some of the earliest info on the COH Freedom pages on the homepage had a few unclear things.I worry that you are correct; I'm just not sure what could have been done about it. As much info as has been given, people are still confused, mis-interpreting and in many cases, misquoting.
I myself have fallen victime to using the phrase "Free to play" to my friends before going back and correcting myself.
Historically, this game has often given people what they wanted, only to see many of them say "Yeah, whatever, but what about all of this other stuff you didn't give us?"
Hopefully, this will not be one of those times.
I think it would have been better if there was a pdf or document that they could share across all pages (homepage, GR page, facebook, twitter account) that folks could download so that there was a consistent message. Comm Reps and Devs could also refer to this when discussing COH Freedom.
But hindsight is 20/20 and all that. (I know I got that saying wrong. LOL)
EDIT: Also a lot of stuff simply wasn't clear at all. Like what they meant by "Incarnate Content". Did they meant he trials will be locked out? Is it the slots that will be grayed out? Will you still be able to get incarnate xp and unlock the slots and not slot anything in them? Etc, etc.
Things like that should have been clearly written within Paragon Studios BEFORE putting it public. No one is perfect, and from managing a community team recently, I get why some stuff isn't that clear before and after it goes out. -
Quote:Agreed. It's the whole freaking point.I disagree.
The relevance of that "excuse" is bound up in the fact that it underlies the entire design of Freedom.
Freedom was designed to be a vast improvement in every way over the I20 world and it succeeds at that. Let me repeat: it does what it was designed to do.
What is less clear is whether it was designed to be an improvement over a certain Tolkien-inspired games' design, and if so, whether it succeeds at that.
