heh as a fluff thing why not.

I would love to see my scrappers have a total of 125 end by lvl 50 w/o accolades or IO's. +5 end total every 10 levels would be awesome, and not unbalancing.
I would not complain about that, provided to get that the devs don't change something else about scrappers to offset it.

I LOL'd cause I can already see the hair-pulling overuse that folks who make AE stories would put cut scenes to. WHEN we get a skip button for general cutscenes then sure. UNTIL then not just no, but hell no to cut scenes in the AE.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Each AT should have a unique mechanic, period. Not just Scrappers I feel this way about the WHOLE of the game. Right now, as far as I can tell, Scrappers are the only AT w/o a unique mechanic.

Through the whole of this my suggestion is the one that seems to have the least impact on balance.

Also, these threads are a way to refine ideas that we are presenting to the devs. If you don't like what is being said, don't read the thread. It is that simple.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this point. NO, I do not agree that every AT needs a unique mechanic, especially when it's essentially not needed in terms of balance. I like that we have ONE AT that has the main goal of "punch things in the face in melee, the end."

Especially NOW that we have new players to the game. It's nice to have one AT that you can point them to that isn't complicated or doesn't need a write up to explain. I think EVERY mmo needs at least ONE class like that. I don't see anything wrong with that.

That is the scrapper attitude all the way, for prof go look at the scrapper boards. Cap also attacks with that shield as much or more than he defends with it, again very scrapperish. I would say StJ/Shield all the way.
Heh, and this is why trying to pigeon hole the ATs into this or that characters is widely open to interpretation and CAN'T be used as a balance rationale. . .

This. I LOVE the fact that they are simple and well rounded. It's why it was the FIRST AT I ever rolled up in this game.

Unless you are free player or premium with no access to Incarnate content.

Again, you can't use Incarnate content or IOs in basic AT balance.

Even more so now in the age of COH FREEDOM.

you can pretend to ignore that point all you want, but that's the REALITY now, more than ever.

This thread really went all over the place. The one thing I am sure of at the end is that the AT I love the most, the Scrapper, will most likely not get anything cool and unique.

What I have enjoyed, no matter how heated it has been, is the passion I see for the game. Even after 7 years we care so much for the game and our creations in the game that we fight tooth and nail for them. That is a pretty awesome thing.

I still want my beloved scrapper to get something unique to them, something that they share with no one else. It seems a little unfair that all the other ATs have that, but scrappers don't. It is what it is though. Scrappers are the first to step up in any given situation, I think it is just part of the mentality that goes with playing that AT. After 7 years of playing this game, playing any other AT still pales in comparison to me. I step away for a moment or two, but I always come back to the scrapper.
That nearly indestructible shield tells me otherwise.

I'm reminded of a moment in the comics (forget the issue) where he puts spider-man behind him and ducks behind the shield while the Hulk pounds away at it.

To me Captain America and that shield are inseparable as a comic character.

I say Tank all the way.

An alternate slotting gave a far more balanced outcome across most of the relevant Defence types, but was below the cap on all of them but not by much.

After some trial and error we both came to the conclusion that the balanced build was undoubtedly the best all round, but not quite there. But it occurred to us that popping a small purple would get us very very near to the cap and a medium/large would take the build well over it.

There was also enough resistance in the build that one small purple and one med orange would give a very well balanced and very tough all round character that could stick around in a hot zone for quite a while.

That was something I'd not considered before - I normally just go for what Mids tells me and that's it. But then, that's silly, right? I mean, inspirations are there to be chomped, it's their purpose in life and if I can leverage enough balance that one small insp is going to change my life, that's good right?

Except, what happens when I don't have one and I'm getting my backside handed to me on a shiny silver platter courtesy of whoknowswhatnastynesswrappedupintheformofanAV?

Even if I know the bind to combine three insps into one and pop it, there's no guarantee in a tough fight that I'd have what I need.

So that leaves me torn. In an ideal world, of course I'll build everything to the soft cap and beyond... but that's not really doable in the real world. However in general game play, it's a pretty tempting prospect to just bank some purple insps and keep popping them as required and worry about the boss fights on the rare occasions they happen.

I'm just curious as to how others solve that conundrum
If it's a difference between softcapping and getting a little more recharge to have that big attack power come up faster, I go with the recharge and let insp handle the rest as you mention in your first few lines.

On all the TPNs i've done they completely ignored the telepaths and finished easily.

The debuff does jack pancake if you ignore the telepaths and just bum rush the rest of the trial. . . which kinda makes the rock thing even sillier.

    YMMV

If this came out a month or more after the content went live i'd say no, but two weeks after it went live, i say yes.. a reward for it is fair.
You and me(and many others apparently) will have to agree to disagree.

You do realize there was the VERY REAL chance (go take a look at what happened in beta) that there would have been ZERO emp rewards for DA content right?

My point being had the devs just decided that the current rewards in DA were just fine, this discussion wouldn't exist.

So I fail to see how anyone is owed anything for running content that they had no idea would eventually maybe someday if the devs felt like it, reward EMPS.

    Just saying.

Yeah stories which most new players won't complete, because they will see the zone is dead for an mmo and then re-roll where there are actual other players.

Praetoria was a great idea before they opened up all the ATs AT THE TUTORIAL.

    Now . . . it's pointless for teaming.
  18. Yeah and with the upcoming change (a way to get EMPS!!!) this zone is even more awesome.

Rolling them out for only one merit way is not the standard is the point as well as hearing from the devs as to what the actual reason is, like they did for this issue at I22.

I am definitely trying to keep the perspective of someone going into all this with no shifts. And some of these critter factions are fabulously dangerous on high level / team size settings, because of stacking debuffs. It's actually from this perspective that I find the EBs so anticlimactic - when you're fighting for your life against the standard spawns (possibly because you have unwisely turned them up), and then the named opponent at the end is an EB no matter what your settings, it can be a bit of a let down.

Ehh. I am playing that Mind/Rad through Tina Macintyre's arcs, and I'm not so sure of that. Maybe it's not so concentrated for all the other content - the rate of EB/mish isn't quite so high (discounting the small army in Cimerora since it blows the curve hugely), but they are there aplenty in my estimation.
Then I'd argue that the mobs in DA either need to be buffed or the EBs need to be buffed somehow. I don't agree then that you just stick AVs in there.

I would not mind if the option to upgrade the EBs to AVs were in there, but with the explanation given I can see why the devs choose what they did now.

We all know he was never an IO guy or power gamer type and if he can solo these AVs scaled down to EBs it just makes me shake my head and ask why? Why isn't this option in endgame content?
There is content that caters to the IO crowd. It's called the Incarnate trials.

I have never felt as much that my character was a real Incarnate anywhere else in the game. I beat a GOD, and he didn't stand a chance. When Ellie stood there in her Incarnate armour in the end cut-scene, it was one of the most satisfying moments I've had playing this game.

BUT, that's only my personal preference as a soloist. I know I'm lucky, in that most of the time my play preferences do seem to line up with the dev's design preferences. If there are ways of expanding the options in DA to improve the experience for other solo players, while keeping the current experience intact, I would be all in favour of that.
Just to be clear, I agree with this.
