There are a few of us that just want to PLAY the game and not neccessarily make missions. With all the fanfare we keep hearing about the Mission Creator, I do hope there is something in there for us then just Shields, PD and a few more Cimerora missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
I hear ya, but I for one have been waiting for a Zig type mission (TF) hero side since launch. Just the idea that I might be able to to create a mission or series of missions for my hero to stop Paragon's worst criminals from re escaping(sp?) is worth the wait, for me at least, 4+ years, I can wait a couple of more months.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd play that. -
LOL don't you know by now that making [censored] out of u and me before they have all the information is a favorite pre-issue speculation?
-
Great event and a good idea.
I'm sure the devs will eventually let their SUBSCRIBERS get that in game item or something similar later on.
Since there already is a similar type of costume (I believe its called Ex Proto, but since I don't have the costume creator open in front of me as I type this, my memory might be off) already in game I'm not too upset about this.
EDIT: Also agreed with more of these events needing to be spread across the country to make it more fair to even be able to ATTEND the event. -

That said, yeah, add me to the people annoyed that they're giving these permanent in-game things to people who make the conventions, that those of us who for one reason or another cannot go can NEVER get (in spite of having given them $15 a month for four years--but that's less important apparently than stopping by a booth at a convention).
There are other things that you can only get at conventions...a chance to talk to people face to face, a chance to walk away with some schwag, a chance to get a sneak peak at whatever they're showing off (like the sneak peak some got for the City Vault). But those are inherent to going to a convention where NCNC has a presence, and I can accept that, as jealous as I can get about it. Things like this, permanent things in-game, that you COULD give to everyone, is just an extra slap at everyone else.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hello GadgetDon. NCNC understands that there are many players on the east coast who would like them to meet at conventions there. At this time, they don't have any plans for any east coast conventions, but it's definitely something they're considering in the future.
Also, I would like to point out the CoX does currently reward its long-time subscribers via the Veteran Rewards system. They understand that the costume powers are nice, and you'll get a chance to earn some temporary costume pieces during the Halloween event.
Thanks for your understanding.
(That's a slight impersonation.)

All I can do is lead by example when I PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Thank goodness for /ignore and disable seeing broadcast villian chat.
[/ QUOTE ]
What about leading by example by not cutting off communication and instead exercising some mental maturity?
[/ QUOTE ]
Why would I want to communicate with anyone in a pvp zone? If folks want to chat do it outside the zone. In the zones you should be there for one thing: kicking someone's face in.
It's actually more mature to me, anyway, to simply ignor or turn off b-cast. You can still chat with your team without seenig the repsonses of idiots. To me that makes more sense then posting on the forums about how butt hurt you got from an aspect which is totally 100% in your control. You do not have to see the nonsense in chat if you don't want to.
Now if you want to rpvp, that's on the person in general. -

Either my search is broken...
...or this thread has 10 Damn pages but not 1 post for overhauling Any part of the LRSF.
Ideas Plz.
I can't be the only one who thinks there's room for improvement on this bugger.
(I'll go rummage through my ancient WC3/SC2 custom maps... try to come up with something too)
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. Maybe break the final mission into 3 different sections of a map. For instance you beat manti and two of the others before moving on to the final area.
Then on to the 2nd part.
Statesman would be the 3rd and would be with his healer (I forget her name).
The mission that also usually gets bugged should be overhauled so that as soon as you find the guy, that's it. It should not be a hostage seeing as how their hostage tech is still buggy as it was in issue 1. -

Would be cool, they could make those purples only have PvP effects, so PvEers would have no reason to want them anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
I like your thinking.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually this is the BEST idea i've heard for adding loot rewards to pvp without it being farmable. There really would be no reason to farm it since it gives you jack in pve.
Good idea, Grinnz. -

This is a bit out of date. Since this thread still exists I'll add that Star Trek Online, Marvel, and DC all seem to have been canceled. Cryptic is now developing Champions which will have pvp options.
AoC is right now in a strong launch. Warhammer is currently expected to be out in October 2008 as something very pvp centric. WOW is adding more pvp options with its next expansion due in November.
Many of the old pvpers from this game still hope that a better red team versus blue team balance will come to this game as well. May we one day reach a point that everybody's characters will have the chance to have fun in COX's PVP.
/keep hope alive
[/ QUOTE ]
Honestly WoW and its spawn of clones (AoC, WAR) don't interest me at all. Anyways even if they did its PvP in the same old fantasy setting as always, which is way different from CoX so I can't really see any competition except for PvP. The deep PvP game I'm waiting for is Darkfall Online which I don't think is to far away now, probably closer than WAR at least.
Champions is still a far way off from knowing how well PvP will actually be there, and farther still from actually playing it. But since CoX's revamp and fresh meat to the Dev team I'm hoping to see more introduced and rebalanced within its PvP ecosystem a least. I definately look forward to them completing the powerset proliferation and then perhaps some fine detail power adjustments.
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL. NOTHING I've seen posted tells me that Darkfall is any closer than its ever been. -

Voice chat is quickly becoming a requirement for any MMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which I really find a shame.
Luckily this is well enough established a game that I don't think introducing a voice chat option at this point will make that big an impact.
If it does, I guess I'll just be soloing more while trying to find "non-voice" teams.
[/ QUOTE ]
Same here. There is no way in hell you'll be getting me to the use voice chat. Edit: My short time trying out my friend's XBOX Live and PC voice chats (for games I won't name) absolutely put me on the path of NEVER using them EVER again.
If it gets to the point that teams in general require it for me to be on their team, that will be day I say good bye to COH.
In addition if we do get this "new launcher" it better not be craptacular like the FFXI launcher or any of the others that you need to d-load content for the streamer first before you can even get to the game and then download any necessary patches for the game.
The idiocy of that is ingrained in my head from my very short time with the crapfest known as FFXI. (Don't get me started on how much I despise that game, its login setup and it just in general.) -

I agree.
Thanks very much, Castle...haven't seen an actual Dev talk to and listen to PvPers in a while.
(Careful with the nerf-bat power, though!)
[/ QUOTE ]
I think it is the smart thing to do. All in all there will be less yelling if he is overly harsh and then lightens up as opposed to putting in a nerf that is light and doesn't work and then having to nerf it further.

I'd suggest that "2" BF's are required to "break" TK's repel though. Just don't remove TK's repel in pvp altogether, that really wouldn't be right.

you know they are just doing this cause heroes cry too much first they let blasters attack while mezed now they want to let heroes pop bf's and come get a mind dom tk was what they used to keep em away to kill this is lame i dont even play a mind dom and i think this unfair
smh why do devs favor heroes so much?
[/ QUOTE ]
???
You realize that there are mind CONTROLLERS in existence right?
Also I agree with the general atmosphere: GG Castle.
Looks like not being the ONLY powers guy for 3 issues anymore is freeing up some of his time.
Thank GOD! -

Excellent.
Between Soldiers of Arachnos, Powerset Diversification and additional slots this's update's second only to the day CoV went live.

Issue 12 is full of so much win I haven't stopped smiling since each part of it has been revealed.
And just think the Roman zone, in game UI info (trays, contacts, etc) and VEAT Branching haven't even been all fully revealed yet!
And again, Issue 12 was originally supposed to be the "light" issue. -
QR.
WTH? I thought my altholism was going to decrease come issue 12.
I'll be getting about 3-4 slots once issue 12 hits.
But I'm still going to buy 2-5 just cause you guys are awesome!
Also, Issue 12 was the "light" issue? ? ? ?
EDIT: Also, the UI upgrades to ALL parts of the game for issue 12=epic win!
EDIT2: I can now roll those Human/Dwarf Peacebringer and Warshades I've always wanted to try and STILL have room for the VEAT and plant/therm controller I was going to roll on Infintiy when issue 12 hit. -

Something is not working.
One day into month 49 now and no 48 month Vet Reward. My account said yesterday was indeed the completion of 48 months. I also see some people have their reward from last week.
Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have gotten the reward yesterday, on the actual day.

It feels like those of us who were in the headstart should get them 4/25, but hey.
[/ QUOTE ]
Right but that was just it. It was a headstart.
It wasn't actually the OFFICIAL anniversary of the game: 4/28/08. -
QR.
Ummm, WOW.
The fact that you could get out a system as complex as inventions/set bonuses/the market with just 15 people (let alone all the other stuff in issue 9, then 10 and 11) is impressive.
Kinda sheds light on how important the Closed Beta idea is/was/still is today.
My hats of to you all.

[ QUOTE ]
I just don't see why the game has to continue dropping Snipe sets at the same rate when there are 1000 of them for sale right now.
[/ QUOTE ]
because they keep the rare stuff rare.
the psychological effectiveness of a random drop system is in the 'random'. flatten the randomness and it's less appealing to players.
Let's take Ryu.
Ryu has run who know how many TFs in pursuit of those few lottery drops everyone wants. A few hundred? More? A lot, anyway.
He did this because he didn't get what he wanted.
If he'd gotten some sort of "balanced" drop rate he would have gotten what he wanted and stopped running TFs.
The same thing is true for any drop- the less random you make it, the more predictable the outcome is, the less appealing & addictive it will be to your players.
'balanced' drops resulting in more 'good stuff' reduce incentive to play the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or if you OVER balance you kill the price on everything across the board: the uber stuff is seen as less uber cause it drops so much. And cause it drops so much there really is not incentive to use anything less uber, so the less uber stuff just deosn't drop.
Or folks just don't put stuff they know they can't make money off of on the market.
If numina's +rec/regen dropped as much as costume pieces i would love it for all my characters. But beyond outfitting all my toons I would simply delete any others i get. I most certainly would not be putting them on the market if the most I could get for them was a ridicuoulsly low price. -

The way to rememdy this situation is to increase the player pool in PvP zones/arenas, one way to do this is link the zones/arenas across servers so that PvPers from all servers can get a shot at each other and populate the PvP areas, thus enticing more people to join in.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with this. Also, do this for Pocket D.
[/ QUOTE ]
Many people's complaints with PVP in CoX are with the experience itself, not necessarily the population of the zones themselves. Indeed, this might appeal to the currently shrinking PVP population, but is very unlikely to bring in or hold many new players. This would be work by the Devs to no profitable benefit.
[ QUOTE ]
As for the main subject of this thread, I have to say that there's nothing I would love more than to speed into the PvP zones, grab the exploration badges, toy with the mobs for a little bit and laugh at all those fools sending me duel requests as I exit back to the real game.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's what many do already. Well maybe not the laughing part, but they don't bother to stop and PVP.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the person you are responding to is explaining exactly what would happen if they got the ability to unflag themselves for pvp in a pvp zone. People would not be using it to study what goes on in the zone, they would be using it (especailly villside) to go in and grabe the badges they need for their accolades and just leave.
Being untouchable would only make it easeir. -

Reading some of the reply I had to stop because all I read were:
Whine whine whine WHINE whine whine.
Just wonder if you all are like this in the real world, if you are then explains why the planet is going down the toilet.
[/ QUOTE ]
oh I fully agree Jutey. This whole issue has been nothing but whining since it was announced...
VEATs? "It's not nictus! WTF! Why can't my heroes wear arachnos costumes!?!"
Powerset Proliferation? "omg psi blasters, omg cold defender, WTF elec stalkers!?! = devs hate villain side clearly"
[/ QUOTE ]
The best part is watching people whine about whining. Priceless.
[/ QUOTE ]
People love to complain about complaining, it is one of humanity's stupider traits.
[/ QUOTE ]
People love to complain in general.
I and others are simply offering up our criticism of these changes. Isn't that part of what discussing the anouncement of these powers is all about? What would be the point of discussion if everyone was happy with the changes and just patted the devs on the back, while those who were unhappy simply remained silent? Those who don't like to hear criticism, and simply label such criticism 'whining' don't seem to understand the point of discussion boards/forums.
[/ QUOTE ]
Many of them do not, no, and for others a few of it breaks down into a few reasons I have detailed here.
But Castle said, Castle also said the numbers were not final.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. I think anyone who still thinks after CASTLE's statements in this thread that they are just going to port stuff over without making changes when necessary is smoking crack. -

recovery aura > the entire thermal set
[/ QUOTE ]
All the endurance in the universe won't debuff that AV the way Heat Exhaustion and Melt Armor can. Just sayin'.
[/ QUOTE ]
thermal isn't needed to debuff. Rad, cold, dark, poison, traps, and sonic can debuff more effectively than thermals can. People don't invite thermals for debuffs, they invite them for shields/forge/mez protection and heals

qft. Apparently the person you replied to and others similarly, know jack [censored] about thermal.

Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement:
NCsoft NorCal is proud to announce a new feature for the City of Heroes® and City of Villains® games; that of Visual Sounds. Visual Sounds are based on the comic book staple of onomatopoeia, or the use of a word to replace a sound. Classic comic book examples are Pow and Ka-Boom! in colorful bubbles while heroes and villains are slugging it out. City of Heroes takes a huge stride forward by replacing simple sounds with the exciting new visual medium of Visual Sounds.
Click here to read the full announcement!
[/ QUOTE ]
Uh Lighthouse, do you guys realize that some of would actually WANT that feature.
Without getting rid of all sounds ofcourse. Make it so you can toggle it on and off to play in conjunction with the sounds.

Lighthouse, Ex, Castle, well..anyone really with a red name.
What if testing proves a set port didnt work en masse like ice brutes in CoV beta. They obviously made it through your internal testing and QA but in practice it was found they didnt work.
If something is found NOT to work, what is the plan?
[/ QUOTE ]
We still have a bit more time in Alpha with Issue 12. Then we have weeks of closed beta followed by more weeks of open beta. There is always time to remove or alter things, as per the plan.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for saying that. Make me feel slightly better.
