Playing something else. Unfortunately this is the truth - solo I am forced to scrap it out with anything that's not a low-HP squishy, and that doesn't work so well on a build with low-ish defense and HP, and no real resistances to speak of. Right now I don't contribute a heck of a lot to a team - my damage isn't all that wonderful outside of crits and all I give to my teammates is Mind Link and the Leadership toggles (but only if they're in range of me, which doesn't happen often in a team situation).

    [/ QUOTE ]

especially not in a full blown pvp zone battle.

But I think I'd rather just have e-mail filters that allow me to limit who is able to send me e-mail in the first place. Your suggest, while fine, is reactive. I'd rather have a proactive approach.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This, honestly.

Though I'd like if any emails from "empty" due to that account being banned (as opposed to just a deleted character) went away, or at least you had that option - it'd reduce the visual impact of it.

(Specifying from banned accounts because I have one from a friend, no longer in the game, from a deleted character of hers that also shows "empty," and would be highly irritated if that one went away.)

    I agree. Very much.

But enlighten me, please, what amazingly valuable nuggets do you feel compelled to broadcast from within the AE, other than the LFT/LFM messages which should either be done via Local or via tells after searches?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Someone comes out of RWZ/VG (or Cim/Midnight) in CAD and saying "/b LGTF (or ITF), LFM" and I am in AE building saying "/b I'll join!".

Otherwise, it doesn't matter what we feel are nuggets for broadcast. It is there to broadcast messages.

    [/ QUOTE ]

yeah that was a funny question for a channel called BROADCAST.

Methinks some don't get the meaning of words.

Time is often a factor. I like medium/long arcs myself, but sometimes I'm limited in the amount of time I have on a given night and will look up short arcs just to get a couple in before bedtime.

As to whether single mission arcs are good or not, it varies. I've played some single missions that are more enjoyable than some of the longer ones with regard to story and fun value. I've played some that are not deep, but are definitely clever. I've played some that I'm not sure why they were made to begin with. But that's true of longer arcs as well.

If I enjoy the arc, it doesn't matter what length it is, I will star it accordingly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.

Though I often look for shorter arcs. I just don't have time to play longer arcs or tfs anymore.

You make a valid point with the brute/stalker example and you are correct that simply buffing tanker damage is not the answer. Something needs to be done to make tankers and scrappers as divergent in play style as brutes and scrappers. Vox Populi had a good suggestion. I think taking that a step further and applying the increased debuff/control to any mobs affected by gauntlet would be a step in the right direction. While not increasing damage (accept maybe in the case of Fire Melee’s DoT) it would move tankers toward more of a group fighter role. Which, IMO, is where they should have been all along.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now that's interesting, and easily doable to boot. All you'd need to do for that is apply a status resistance debuff to the target, thus making controls last longer. It does gives some sets more perks than others, though.

For example, compare Axe and Mace. Very similar sets, except all of Axe's attacks have a chance for knockdown while Mace is a mix of knockdown/stun. Knockdown wouldn't be effected by the status resistance debuff (it would cause knockback which has just been removed in most cases) and the stuns would. Mace would be able to benefit while Axe would be left in the cold. Now I'm imagining giving that to Stone Melee... (Fault anyone?)

Still, it's something to think about. (Finally, a fresh idea!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Isn't the main thrust of that suggestion that it makes Tanks more appealing on Teams, not just that it helps their own individual powers?

The fact that it helps Mace a bit more is nothing compared to the fact that it helps any Controller they are teamed with, right?

I like the idea though .. it's a lot more "Thinking out of the Box" than J_B's idea.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I wouldn't even consider Johnny's an idea.

It's been proven time and time again that's it's not.

Ofcourse as has been proven by this thread if no one agrees with his comic book vision of tanks (despite tanks being 4th most popular) he ignores that.

Pretty much the EPIC FAIL of discussions. He's good at that.

SB brings nothing that a good build doesnt give you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Neither does Fulcrum Shift, it only brings damage and a good build already brings damage. Both gives more of the good, however, FS bringing more damage and SB bringing more recharge, end recovery and run speed. Which brings more depends on powersets and situation. SB helps my DM/SD scrapper waaaay more than FS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And transference would help waaay more than sb. Hell not every kin even slots for endurance. That's what most folks fail to realize. In fact on ALL my kins it gets a recharge or end redux in it in the default slot. That's it.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
So, basicly we agree it isnt a need but a want. Thats cool, I love getting SB myself, but I have never asked for one outside of an AV/GM fight because its not important enough to me.

I enjoy 7 out of 9 of the kinetic powers (hate the bounce bubble and SB is alright) so by some of the reasoning posted because I dont enjoy playing buffbot with SB I should skip Kinetics altogether? That seems silly.

I have played a Kin/ to 50 another Kin/ to 36 and another /Kin to 45 and not once has anyone complained about the work I have done as a Kineticist, ever.

But obviously all the people I have played with in the last 3 years werent as skilled as the "Must have SB on all team members at all times or I'll kick you." people.....or the people complaining are such a small fraction of the playerbase that this is just a silly debate to get into as the remaining "I dont really care how you play your toon." people are the vast vast majority on the matter and I can just not care what the vocal minority has to say.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Let me repeat myself from my previous post:

    [ QUOTE ]
SB does more for the team as a whole than anything else you can do short of possibly Fulcrum Shift.

    [/ QUOTE ]

While all characters should be self sufficient, having buffs available allows the team to step up to another level of effectiveness. Of the buffs a Kin has available, only Fulcrum Shift is arguably more powerful than Speed Boost.

But I can see that there's no convincing you of that fact so I'll leave you to play at less than your best. Personally my feeling is that a Kin who can't be bothered to keep SB up most of the time is playing well below his potential and should probably be playing a different powerset. I probably won't kick him from the team but I'll avoid teaming with him in the future.

I feel the same no matter what character I'm playing... if I'm playing a second Kin on the team then I'd appreciate the buff as well, and double stacking on the rest of the team does awesome things for the team's DPS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Completely disagree. I would rank transference, siphon speed (helps get FS up faster) and FS as being > sb. just saying.

    *sigh*

The massive change I'm mentioning to PSW wouldn't be in the line of a flat damage nerf. You people aren't reading closely. If a pile of other sets get a big increase to base damage and the buff gets dropped from domination, but PSW doesn't get the same buff other powers get, what's the net effect?

Pay attention to EXACTLY what Castle has said. He's implying that he might do a rebalancing of domi damage while applying the increase. Since there are certain sets that contain distilled suckery, (I like to point at Grav here, because the recent nerf to pet recharge really hit singularity fairly hard) those sets get more of the increase. He used energy as an example, but it wouldn't surprise me if energy was the set to get the most buff.... I read a lot about its failings.

So he used a sample it's easy to assume everyone who plays that particular set would like a little bit. My bet is that had he used the numbers he's tentatively got for PSW, that thread would have degenerated into a full-on hatefest.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ummm no.

If a nerf to PSW means a buff to the rest of /psi I'm all for it.

However, it depends of course on how much of a buff the rest of /psi gets.

Couldn't care less about the rest of the other sets. They'll probably get buffs/nerfs as needed.

You don't get recipes or common invention salvage. This becomes an issue at around level 32, when simple IOs become as good as even level SOs. It's fairly easy to keep your SOs updated with tickets, but you won't be replacing them with simple IOs, and thus spend money or tickets on their upkeep longer.

You are not getting badge missions or defeat badges in MA. This puts important accolades like Atlas Medallion harder to achieve. I recommend that you take time out around 23-28 to run the Moonfire task force a couple times, which usually helps a lot in getting your Slayer and Silver Bullet badges.

I dont suppose there is a slash command for switching builds on the fly? Going back to the trainer heroes is pretty inconvenient for build switches (especially during TFs).

15 minutes between switches is fine, but without a trainer nearby, it makes this feature hard to use when you need it.

Unless theres some slash command I missed? I did not see one listed for build switching when I last looked to see if it was added.

I believe the most likely "barrier" to switching is going to be content, not penalties..

Based on the survey last fall, I actually expect people with a sufficiently grey/neutral rating to be able to switch back and forth with some degree of ease. Maybe not just walk up to the portal and click it ease, but certainly not dramatic undoing of your character.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.

Uberguy has pretty much hit the nail on the head. The dev's aren't going to want to "extremely penalize" paying customers for even considering swapping factions. This would not only severely discourage anyone from ever buying their new expansion in the first place, but place more problems on themselves down the road through complaints and lack of profit.

The Morality Compass, which was discussed a very long while back, is the most likely scenario with side-switching. As discussed in the intros for CoH:GR, Heroes and Villains will be able to explore the "grey lines" between "good and evil." Combine that with the Morality Compass, and we can assume that we will not simply wake-up one morning and declare ourselves a "new faction" without having FIRST built up enough either "good" or "bad" points (to put it simply) to declare it. We can even assume that by this statement in the press release:

"Clearly marked missions, in addition to behaviors and decisions made by the player, will move a hero's or villain's moral compass, which could eventually change the hero's or villain's alignment"

Basically, we'll most likely be forced to run a hefty number of "clearly marked missions" in order to gain enough "Morality Points" for us to side switch. The exact number of missions and deeds that we must do are what we don't know. I'm betting that we're looking at a pretty decent amount of time investment required to be able to swap sides though. I'm SURE the dev's don't want people being able to swap sides on an hourly or "at whim" basis.

It might not be several "days" worth of mission hours, but most likely it will be more than just a "couple" quick missions. My guess would be about [u]2-3 Strike Forces worth in time investment[u] for comparison, since it is clearly stated as with enough missions you could "eventually" change your alliance. Eventually in the MMO world can mean a decent amount of time investment in many cases.

I do doubt, however, that you will lose your badges, money, levels, enhancements, etc. There's a chance that we may lose stored "loot" such as salvage/recipes, but even that may not happen as that in and of itself would be quite a severe penalty for any player.

[u]As far as Ancillary and Patron Pools are concerned, my bet is one of two[u]:

A.) We'll either simply "keep" our Ancillary or Patron Pools normally, as it was a time investment the dev's didn't care to apply right now.

B.) Or we will simply be allowed to respec into the new faction's Ancillary or Patron Pools upon side swap. This will either be handled as a "free respec" such as Villains gain when they complete their Patron Arc for the first time (meaning that each time you switch factions, you'll gain a "free faction respec"), or you will simply attain a chance to "respec" your lvl 40+ Ancillary/Patron powers upon side switch, in order to just choose new ones (heroes "may" have to run villain patron arcs).

The Dev's might even make it a "mission" which you'll have to complete in order to recieve your new factions Ancillary or Patron Pools, make it sort of a "Prove yourself to your NEW faction and gain access to a new Ancillary/Patron Pool!" type thing. However, I'm truely betting that upon faction switch, you WILL be granted a free-respec, in similar fashion to how the Villains are currently granted a free-respec upon completion of their Patron Arcs. Afterall, you will be putting in PLENTY of time (more than a regular respec missions worth) to make it a justifiable reward.

Also, I think that our "faction builds" will come into play with the recent ability they granted us to have "2" builds. [u]I don't think, however, that we will be given a total of 4 changeable builds.[u] I think that they dev's granted us the recent ability to have "2 builds" with CoH:GR in mind, and with full intent and preparation for faction swapping. Now, you can have a "Hero build" and a "Villain build" if you swap. It's that simple.

Anyways, those are my "predictions" on the table. Just a head's up, my logic is pretty sound on this

    [/ QUOTE ]

What if the MA missions counted for this?

For instance the more you run villanous MA and dev countent the more you go dark, the more you run heroic MA and dev content the more you go white. The could have the MA content count 2-3 times as much as the dev content.

Ofcourse this doesn't say what "neutral" would count for.

Villains are going to need some ancillary power pools for when they turn good.

Way, way back, when side switching was first discussed in earnest (when they added names for the same badges on both sides), Statesman, who was still in charge, suggested that you'd lose EPP/PPPs and have ro respec into PPP/EPPs.

In your estimation, when will I be able to choose powers from any powerset in the game regardless of architype and without restriction as to the number I can dip into (a la Champions Online)? For an example less related to a rival franchise, when do you imagine the developers will cave in and admist that stamina is a requirement for 99% of player-characters and not an "option" and simply give it to us for free? Or on another tangent, when do you expect they will open a full, open-world PvP server?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The first, a more freeform creation system, could happen in a new AT. Given what I've seen lately in the SoA and the changes to Doms that are coming, the devs don't seem to be as pathologically concerned about 'balance' anymore. So perhaps someday we'll see an AT or epic AT that allows freeform building. Do I think it's likely? Don't know honestly, but I'll never rule it out.

As for Stamina, depending on how Champions and DCUO handle power issues, that could happen sooner than we all expect. That's a much better example, because I could say that same thing about MoG back in the day. People, including me, had lost hope that that power would get changed. It did, it's glorious, and it proved to me yet again, "Never say never."

Didn't say it was. I'm saying, even if it was, it'd only reflect a mainstream... the arcs that were most generally accessible. That's not necessarily an indicator of quality. I like it too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Thanks.

Perhaps my biggest complaint about the rating system, and MA in general, is visibility. The fact that the default search behavior favors the more popular arcs has long disturbed me; as we can already refine our search to target these. If people cannot get the arc they have spent hours making played, then people will generally tend to stop making arcs. This constant discussion about ratings griefing eliminates any argument against that.

I view the MA as a way to do something really cool with the game that you like, which you have been playing for some time; with someone else (or more) who obviously enjoys the same game. Being able to have a shot at getting your arc on the precious page one really enhances that chance (seriously, who decides to start on page 20+ all the time?). With the obvious effect of groupthink (feel free to argue) in play on these ratings, it is unfair to keep something on the front page which can easily be seen by what would instantly become one of the most common search methods used; the star rating method (the current indicator of quality, the most desirable feature currently being used by anyone who is searching for an arc).

The unfortunate flip side to this issue is that the very popular arcs have the very wonderful advantage of being able to show that this'll be something which you can finish; thanks to the number of people who have played it. A person who plays the MA needs to have an easy way to find a mission they know that they'll be able to complete. This might be the absolute biggest failing of the MA. Random visibility comes with the necessity of being able to create a page of arcs which the person knows that they'll be able to do. Being able to have a button which a person can push saying that they don't want to see anything which contains AVs can go a long ways towards that. Custom mobs should be another. Another preference would be one that adjusts with how the difficulty of the mob is set. Give people a choice to make it PG, and we're set. People can now easily use what is now the most popular feature of the game, and they can get what they want.
