Apocolypse: Dam/End Reduction up for 200 mil
Get it while it's hot!

Quote:Completely 100% agree. Merits are there for folks to buy what they want. Folks need to use them.I'm tired of the request for a store.
Merits were added, played hell with the market, but that wasn't good enough.
Tickets were added, played hell with the market, but that wasn't good enough.
It appears to me that some people just aren't going to be happy until the purpose of a market is completely defeated. As I enjoy the market aspect of the game, I'm not interested in accommodating those people any further.
There are currently alternative means to get practically everything without using the market.
I'm sorry, but I think that's good enough.
Noop.
Sure, that might indicate that someone is trying to flip (or flop) or manipulate an item, but it's by no means a given. Many, many people simply look at the sale history and buy at that same amount, or higher, even when they don't have to.
This scenario happens to me regularly:
Last 5 sales on an item: 10 million.
I list 5 of the same item at half of that amount.
I come back later and find that all 5 have sold during the course of the day for... 10 million. Or more.
Sale history? Still uniformly 10 million.
The phenomenon you're talking about does happen, but it's generally easily bypassed by awareness and patience. And the few times where it isn't, well... that's where market PVP comes in.
People just have to grasp the concept that the market isn't static. Just because you see an item selling for X doesn't mean it's going to sell for X a month, a week, a day, or even an hour from now. If an item seems oddly inflated, it probably is. Put in a bid you're comfortable with... and wait.
I understand that this is apparently too much of a bother for some people. But, y'know, that's why the whole thing's optional. That's how those people are accommodated in this system. Nothing needs to be fixed any further, because it's not broken.
It's not the obligation of the developers or the rest of the player base to cater to the (willfully) uninformed and impatient. The very fundamental dynamic of the market system runs counter to those traits. Thus, trying to "adjust" the system to mollify the (willfully) uninformed and impatient undermines its most basic function and purpose... and will ultimately ruin it.
I happen to enjoy the market aspect of the game. I'd rather it not be taken away from me to satisfy people who:
1. don't have to use the market at all.
2. have SOs available through stores.
3. can fully outfit themselves with common IOs without ever using the market.
4. Can purchase most set IOs without ever using the market.
That's enough.
If any given item is deemed too rare, the way to address that is through its drop rate. The market doesn't need to be smacked around any further. -
Quote:I agree. However, it's impossible to release any issue with 100% no new bugs. I know you're not saying this, but I think some folks might be reaching for an impossible standard. The position specific to me is that they have been making very conceptually similar "simple mistakes" for a long time. They've made some improvements over the years certainly, but still break things too often for my tastes. I'd like to have seen those mistakes result in better continuous improvement, so that such bugs surface less with each release.
I know I'm biased. I work in an environment with a very high bar for software correctness. Of course, it's not a game environment, and when my team's system doesn't work right, its other people in the enterprise who come asking why. I can imagine that has a far different dynamic from an MMO shop where players get mad about bugs in game.
But just because I would love to see a higher bar doesn't mean I am trying to vilify devs individually or collectively (and I acknowledge you weren't accusing me of such specifically). I just wish the results made it look like they had a higher bar.
With that said maybe it's time for them to review how beta tests are conducted. -
Quote:Pretty much this.I think it's more you (general "you" for those that share this viewpoint) are assigning malicious intent to the devs for the changes, rather than them making a simple mistake.
Funny thing is the folks in the drops testing thread aren't assigning malicious intent to the devs in that thread. Interesting how different people react to different situations. -
Just in case anyone decides to skim, here is my agreement with this solution, once again:
I agree the problem is the mobs that have minions and lts that can chain. Simple solution: reduce the chain mezzing ability of the lts and minions in those mobs: Malta, Carnies, and Tsoo and KoA to a limited degree. -
Quote:*looks at her numerous lvl 50 toons that aren't Tankers, Scrappers, Brutes and Stalkers*Easy mode that Tankers, Scrappers, Brutes and Stalkers already have. You can't forget that part.
ummmm, mez isn't an issue for any of the squishes I have played up to 50. I must be missing something. Those squishes usually have plenty of mitigation to deal with mez prior to being mezzed (and in some specific cases, WHILE MEZZED) that those ATs you mentioned DON'T without their mez prot.
Also of all the squishes to request mez prot, blasters MOST DEFINETLY don't need it, since mez has been a joke ever since defiance for them. They can still blast WHILE mezzed.

Quote:The problem eryq, is prior to issue 16, you should have gotten a healthy mix of set, uncommon and common IOs.I can't complain on drops. I farmed this weekend on a BM map set for 8 +1's. I got hundreds of salvage, hundreds of common io's, and 2 purples. (both arma)
Hopefully i can single handed lower price rates. At least on salvage since i'm selling all for less than 500. So, buy em up.
Getting hundreds of COMMON IO's IS the issue.
Salvage has ALWAYS been noted as fine btw, both in closed, open beta and by live players.
I too got dozens of COMMON IOs in the 20+ farms i'm run, no set IOs, no uncommons, and 3 purples. Prior to issue 16 would NOT have been like that. -
lvl 50 Gravitational Anchor: Rech/Acc on market for less than 86 mil.
Get it while it's hot.
(makes up for the sucky drop rate)
-
I'm seriously leaning in this direction myself. As I said before issue 16's great feature of me was the new difficulty options. This bug makes using them pointless. What's worse is that it also makes playing with the regular SOLO settings pointless also.
Really couldn't care less about color cust, as I took me less than an hour to finish up the toons I'd ever want to do it with.
EDIT: With all that said the most important aspect is what's going to happen to the villside market very shortly. With AE basically DEAD in terms of being a cure to the idiocy that is/was/will always be issue 13's merit system, I can see us going back to the days of paying waaaaay more for stuff villside than heroside. LOL, they think the ******** about purple and pvp IO prices was bad . . . -
Anyone else getting massively long loads after the patch?
-
NO.
The old mmo design of losing levels is one of the reasons I quit FFXI faster than you can say "howdy mama".
Debt is fine as is. The death penalty is fine as is.
EDIT: Also they just BUFFED the amount of xp from 1 to 24. Would make absolutely no logical sense to implement this. And no, just moving the debt start to 24 would be even dumber, just to implement xp loss in the last 26 levels. -
Quote:this.well, not all classes can acheive the damage of a blaster. Fire/Kin controllers and Scrappers are the closest i can think of.
Blasters have come along way since the beginning of the game. With IO sets teh blaster can become much more sturdy due to all the +defense and with +recharge, the blaster can free up more attack slots for defensive powers.
I've yet to see a class that can match a Blasters when it comes to burst damage or AoE (other than the Spines/Dark -or- /fire scrapper) -
Quote:This. And turning someone's thread into yet another round of Let's Argue With Venture is also rude, not to mention repetitive.
ON TOPIC: No, I would not alt-tab out while playing an arc, not for a Youtube video, not for any other outside material. I play CoX to play a game, not watch movies. Incidentally, I also hate cut scenes.
You have 500 characters for "boss unaware" dialogue. Any boss dialogue that actually uses all that space gives the impression of being a long-winded monologue, simply by contrast to the one-liners you usually get. -

This is going to kill the market unless they patch this. Especially villside. Has anyone heard from Synapse on this?
-
Quote:After doing that 123324324 times MANY vets would disagree. You mean ... mr. Bocor arc... Snake hunt arcs... patron arcs... timetravelling to the future... etc etc etc... more then I can mention here. incl All the TF's and SF's...
There is standard content. Only you are bored with it. Don't bring new players on wrong idea's. This game has more content then any other still.
Prior to issue 14 there weren't these long lines of teams doing standard content arcs. The major complaint heard on the forums was about newspaper and radio teams and "that's all anyone wants to do".
Again waiting for GR for the return to standard dev content. -
Quote:lol with everyone packing icon and the facemaker to the gills, you probably won't see any impact for at least a week.I know it's early, but what impact are you seeing?
Reduced MA farming/pl'ing?
Increased solo farming in standard missions with extra difficulty options?
Lots of new alts increasing low level drops and starving mid level drops?
Also thanks to the work of some diligent folks it's been found that the drop rate is currently borked. -
Quote:I'd say you are probably right. If there are any more content updates for the year, or if issue 17 does come it will be small and won't coincide with GR.Everyone is assuming and hoping for the issue that gets released to coincide with Going Rogue will be issue 17, and while it is likely, it hasn't been confirmed yet. It could be issue 30 for all we know right now. Considering the sizes of issues 14 and 16 development wise, I think we're done with issues for this year (usually try for one big and 2 small ones a year, we got 2 big ones this year). Also because of the loyalty program they announced the other week:
they won't be able to really start at least the 'tier 2' closed beta testing until November 15th. Considering the holiday season comes soon after that where many workers are going to be out of town for much of it, it would be very tight to get it out before the end of the year. They might not even start any beta testing until after them because of it.
Assuming Going Rogue coincides with issue 17, I'd say 1st or 2nd quarter of 2010, depending on how much beta testing is needed.
But more than likely 17 is with GR and is next year. -
Great issue. NOT the best to date, but great issue.
Colors: Great. Waiting for the rest of the options (Granite, Khelds, etc)
Difficulty options: Best addition of the issue. Color Cust is secondary as far as I'm concerned.
Super Sidekicking: I hear it's great, but haven't had a chance to test it out yet.
Pets zoning: Too damn good!
Great issue. Looking forward to GR (finally some story content) and whatever surprises come in issue 17 now. -
Quote:you mean standard content like newspaper mission after newspaper mission, like they were doing before AE? or pling in PI before AE?I hope this means that we will be seening less AE farms and more players going back to standerd content.
lol standard content.
I'm waiting for GR for the return to standard content. -
Quote:True. But I often assume when an OP comes and ASKS he/she wants folks to PLAY such an arc. If they didn't they would just make it and put it up and not care if folks played it.This is a fair point. My own personal view is something like Consumerism:
Writer: "Here's my arc - its intended for X and it does Y"
Player: "OK, I'll give it a go"
or
Player: "Hm, not my cup of tea sorry"
The OPs request for comment from the forum-goers here has hopefully given him the answer - some people will accept a youtube video as part of his arcs narrative, and some won't
It's still up to him alone to decide whether or not to use one.
Eco.
Personally, no, I would NOT play the external video. And if your arc doesn't make sense without it, it's taking a hit in stars. Basically if you plan to do it make sure you have the same text of said speech in the ACTUAL ARC SOMEWHERE.
If streaming directly from Youtube did ever become an option for MA authors, the devs better make damn sure you can auto turn it off BEFORE they start an arc. The griefing potential alone with that is astounding. -
Quote:As long as you have the option of TURNING IT OFF or skipping the cut scene, sure. From experience, I'd have to say, no, I wouldn't be willing to switch to YouTube to view a streaming video as part of the story arc.
I say "from experience" because, as it turns out, I've already run an arc that had a video linked to it (Ashley Porter and the Gorilla War, a fun WW2 era romp), and I didn't look at the video until some weeks later.
The video proved to be pretty awesome (I wish I had that author's skill at demorecording and video editing!), but I certainly didn't look at it while I was playing the arc; and even if I had, it would've been unfair to let my opinion of the video (which is really a different medium) color my opinion of the story arc.
However, if the MA interface changed so you could splice a "cut scene" seamlessly (or approximately so) into your story arc, I'd be totally OK with viewing those. That would essentially make the video clip part of the AE experience. -

Quote:And I completely disagree with both of you.I mostly agree with the OP. I don't think blasters bring the damage enough to warrant all the protection they need to bring said damage and survive.
Having gotten multiple blasters and scrappers up to 50, both are fine for the roles that are meant to do.
I actually find all the comparisons to be silly at best.
And saying the self protective mitigation that blasters bring to the table isn't relevant when talking about balance. . . good luck convincing the devs and multiple players that.
EDIT: I'm not inviting a blaster to a team to control, to tank, to taunt, etc. I'm inviting one to bring damage. That is all, and they do that just fine.
Blasters DO NOT need further buffs. Sorry.
EDIT 2: Now if you want to talk about buffing INDIVIDUAL powers in various primaries or secondaries, that's a different story.
