Quote:I got Archery and Sonic for the cost of my subscription back in Issue 5, which was a free issue and not a paid expansion. Paying extra for power sets on top of a subscription is indeed new territory. Awful new territory. The whole reason we have to pay for this via the Paragon Market is BECAUSE it's not part of a paid expansion. In effect we've had to pay extra for just about every new powerset we've ever gotten. In the past the only way we usually got new powersets were as parts of paid expansions. Because this powerset is being offered on its own it needs to be paid for on its own. There's really no mystery to it. *shrugs*
I feel that a paid player should get the whole game for the cost of their subscription (like we used to, accept paid expansions), and don't give me this crap about my 400 "free" points a month. You know what I'm talking about, and being purposely obtuse isn't cute or clever. -
Quite. I won't have enough points to buy this with my free points until the end of November. Not that I care much, as I think I'm the only player out there who wasn't foaming at the mouth for Street Justice. I just think it's a crappy business model.
-
So, why do VIP players have to purchase this? Granted I know we can purchase it with our free points, but I think this model is awful. If a power doesn't come with an expansion (like KM with GR), then VIP players should have access to it without all this Paragon Market song and dance.

I've found that on Justice iTrials run more frequently after 9pm EST. Like Cinder said, most people meed in Pocket D, and trials are usually announced in the global channels.

Quote:That's because women in the old west were all saloon girls, silly pants. They'd never give women functional cowboy gear.I like the look...
It just doesn't say 'Gunslinger' to me. More like Steampunk part deux.
That said, give me holsters and old west ponchos!!!
Two words - barbarian stilettos.
Still makes me shake my head. -
I'll (somewhat) forgive them for hopping on the corset train again if those skull bracers are legit.

Quote:But that's part of the problem. There is no whole group of women that is ever going to agree on anything. Even during first wave feminism, when women were fighting for the right to vote, there were women fighting against it for varied reasons. We can't think of "women" and "men" as whole collectives that come together and decide how their gender will be represented. If these films didn't sell because women as a whole group, found them offensive, I promise you they'd stop making those films because they'd stop making money.
And this is why sexism is bad for both women and men. The same culture that thinks female super heroes can (and should and want to) fight crime in stilettos is the same culture that says men should like football, beer, and boobs. There are many different ways to be feminine and masculine, a good number of which overlap. But when we hold up just one of each as *this* is feminine, and *this* is masculine, we limit ourselves and stunt our emotional growth and maturity.
As for why the Valentino films were popular among women, I have no idea. I have not seen them so I have no frame of reference. My best guess is that women looked past what was happening on the screen and just saw a very attractive man in a seemingly romantic situation and were wishing they could be that woman. It's the same reason some women are all about Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, despite the fact that he's a criminal with appalling oral hygiene.
But it's also why some guys like Megan Fox despite the fact that she can't act and has soulless eyes. We have set up in our society that there is only one way to be attractive, and both Mr. Depp and Ms. Fox fit that bill (for many people at least). When you're bombarded from an early age with imagines of what you're supposed to find attractive, you start believing it.
Ever have a friend who was attracted to larger women? And was embarrassed by it? Same principle.
And I'll stop here before I tangent again. >.> -
That "tacit approval" of which you speak is because whenever women speak up, we are silenced with cries of "taking it too far" or being *******. So we end up talking among ourselves and preaching to the choir and not getting anywhere. For many women this is exhausting, so they just accept defeat and move on.
Yes, comic men are exaggerated to often ridiculous degrees. But it's different in the sense that the sexualization of men comes with the notion (either implied or overt) that they are also highly capable. The sexualization of women usually comes with enfantilization and the notion (either implied or overt) that we are feeble and need men to help us. So we're not only being degraded as just a sexual object, but we're having our capability and intelligence degraded as well. Furthermore, women's bodies are used to sell and promote nearly every product you can imagine from candy bars to sports cars. -

Quote:You're not. After reading this thread, I've come to the conclusion I am the only player who bought GR because it was, you know, an expansion to the game I loved. Period. I never gave a flip about Incarnates. The Incarnate System sounded - still does, for that matter - too much like WoW-style raiding for me to want to spend much time on it. I bought GR for Praetoria, and side switching, and new costumes and power sets and all the cool, neat things that come with an expansion. Incarnates were the least part of it.
Personally, I'm staying VIP on both my accounts. I have paid a subscription for over six years so that I would have access to everything the game had to offer, and I plan to continue doing so. I don't want to run up against any walls blocking my way. That was worth $15 a month before, and it's worth $15 now.I was excited for GR because of the new stories and side switching. Like Uber said, getting the Incarnates with it was just a bonus.
I continue to pay because there is still value in the game for me. It's still well worth the $15.00 a month to have access to everything, not to mention that I like financially supporting things I enjoy. That's why I donate to public radio and purchase my music. -
It's funny to find this topic here, because I just finished a blog post about the sad state of Sister Psyche.
Out of all the canonical female characters in game, she gets it the worse, especially static art.
As far as costume lock outs go, there is no reason for female characters not to have the Baron Coat. Or the skull mask. Or the Resistance helmet. Or anything really. -
I'll be there with Cell Block Tango, my level 46 KM/WP Brute.

My theory is that they're slowly rolling out a sequel and soon we'll be like "Hey, this is an entirely different game."
-
I got this problem resolved today, and also got confirmation that the auras are NOT included in the costume bundles. The new Paragon Market interface is now explicit about it.
While I am pleased with my customer service experience, I am deeply disappointed with how they are handling costume bundles. -
Quote:That is ridiculous and wholly unacceptable. For one, auras ARE costume bits. For two, the entire Origins pack when it was released was only 5 capes and 10 auras. So I spent the same amount for 5 capes that I did for the entire Barbarian set?I'm not sure whether it was a Dev post, an OCR post or something from the Ustream chats but something was recently said about costume bundles being the costume bits only. Auras are separate from the costume bundles.
Why isn't this detailed in the market?
Sorry TJ, not trying to shoot the messenger here. I'm just really upset by all this, especially since I haven't heard anything from CS in nearly a week and my status has been showing "awaiting approval" the whole time. -
Auras ARE costume pieces. It is NOT unreasonable to assume they'll be included.
-
I claimed my namesake on Exalted, but that's it. Still really pleased to see Justice in the red for the past couple of days, even at odd times of the day.
-
Among my purchases yesterday was the Origins costume bundle. Post purchase I went to make a new character, and saw that the capes in that bundle were usable but all of the auras for the bundle were still locked. So I logged in a level 50 with auras unlocked to see if it was a glitch, and that character could not use the auras either. I have tried this on all genders, sizes and level ranges with the same result.
I sent in a petition for it and was asked to provide screen shots. I did, but haven't heard anything, nor do I have access to those auras still.
I also bought the Barbarian pack and had no issue at all; I had instant access to all of its pieces. -
Is your Origins bundle broken? I bought one and it only gave me the capes, and not the auras that go with it. I bugged it, got a response from CS, sent them screen shots, and have since heard nothing.

My Dark/Dark Blaster is something I have wanted since day one. So happy to finally be playing one!

I have only run the UT once, and it was a cakewalk. I only died once and that's because some moron was running ahead thinking they could spike the bombs. :P
Reading this makes me reluctant to try it again, as I think I just got very lucky. -
Quote:Especially when you're paying a monthly fee to even play the game and the prices for you are the same as they are for people who play for free? Yeah, totally get that.apparently the hint wasn't gotten from the thread in the beta forums.
These prices are simply too high.
I'm not paying $10 for a new power-set.
I'm not paying $7.50 for a (admittedly cool looking) travel power.
I'm not paying near the cost of a completely new game just to get more costume slots.
I'm not paying near the cost of a completely new game just to get more enhancement storage slots.
I'm not going to buy enhancement boosters. I don't need them.
I'm not going to buy IO sets. I don't need them.
Everything that I would have bought is simply priced too high for me to choke down buying. Everything that is priced... you know... in the MICROtransaction price bracket is stuff I don't need or can do without.
A game that has subscribers and free players should never charge subscribers above and beyond their subscription for anything. -
I was upset that I had to spend $5.00 to cover the points deficiency I had to get all the stuff I wanted, because I don't think someone who pays to play an MMO should have to pay a penny extra for anything. Pre-Freedom I did buy some of the booster packs, but now that there is a definite distinction between account types I see no need in making us continue to pay for extras, especially costumes. Granted I know the points I get every month will take care of most of that stuff (or at least I hope), but yesterday it didn't and I was annoyed.
I bought Beam Rifle just because it was on sale, but I'm not ready to play it yet. I also bought the Origin Pack bundle (which is broken and CS has yet to respond to my second update on my ticket), the Barbarian bundle (which doesn't have any sort of gloves or bracers for female characters), the Rocket Board (which I totally love) and the backpack. I don't feel the need to buy extra storage when we have /ah now. If I get full, I either /ah or pull out my portable work bench and make some commons.
