Whenever you hear a writer interviewed about what they think about Superman they talk about his values etc etc snore snore.

To me, the whole key to Superman is that he is THE greatest and most powerful superhero of them all. (barring the cosmic types like the Spectre.)
I think a lot of people just don't know what to do with Superman. Even here in the forums, I find it odd that people will often complain that he is "way too powerful! He's so strong it's boring!" Then, a short time later, they'll talk about some other hero and say "he's so awesome! He's even stronger than Superman!"

I agree with your last line though. I think Superman is the hero you want saving you when it all hits the fan. He should be the most powerful, most capable of them all.

Lol. Yes, my favourite condescending line from Star Trek's reboot. I'm sure the Bat-fans will be as happy as some of the Trek fans were.

Anyhow, it's things like this that make me realise that I don't actually miss comics as much as I sometimes think I do. Why on earth should I read a comic, enjoy the story and get invested in the characters if everything will be invalidated a short time later?

    Sigh
  3. I have no plans to see this. I somewhat enjoyed the first one (I'd put it at about 6.5/10), fell asleep watching the second one and faded in and out of consciousness during the third. I really have no deire to pay for another $12 nap.

I actually kind of like the song and don't get all the hate. It's just a light, pop tune. Nothing wrong with that.
  6. I wonder how they'll handle things when they catch up to and then pass the books.
  7. I'm surprised he agreed to do it. Loved his quick-draw Vulcan salute and finding the Shat on every channel.

  9. I haven't really watched much TV for a couple of years now. I have a handful of shows that I watch, but that's it. Almost everything that I watch is from few years back, because I wait until about the 5th season of a show before I start watching it on DVD or online. That way, I know I have a number of seasons to enjoy, instead of getting hooked on something that may not last more than a dozen episodes. The only exceptions are Dr Who, Big Bang Theory and Game of Thrones (which I was stunned to hear would be back for another season-- usually liking a show is my best way of having it cancelled).
  10. Bah. Only 22. My old highschool english teacher would smack me upside the head if he knew.

Some of it entered the main stream canon while a lot of it was either forgotten as people became less connected with their religions and/or maintained as canon (officially), but kept local.

Because most people don't know the commonly known canon of their religion they hardly ever know the less known parts.

Norse Christianity is one of those occurrences where it is considered canon, but because it's local and largely not connected with by even those who would be Odinists (or whatever they'd be called) noone but people who learns random trivia knows this type of stuff for the most part.

There are a number of other well known occurrences of this and more recent as well, but their names escape my mind right now, but one is from latin america and the other is a merge of Buddhism and christianity. I could also think of some more ancient world ones, but let's not as those are more likely to hit on sensitive spots.
Yeah, when I was in college I had a Magic and Religion course that discussed a lot of this.

Yeah, I actually am familiar with Sentry, although I wish I wasn't. My "Who?" was something of a joke because I like to pretend that he doesn't exist. A more poorly conceived and introduced character has never existed, IMO.

I wouldn't really call Asgard a "planet". It looked more like an island in space. Any physical space other than earth does not need to be called a planet. In many myths, there are otherworldly locales that are not planets. To my mind, they were presented as actual gods in the film, although one is certainly free to one's own interpretation of what constitutes a god. I don't agree with those who say that they can't be gods because they are not omnipotent. Few gods were/ are.

As for the race issue... I rather liked Heimdall, althought I agree that I found it odd to cast a black man as a Norse deity. *shrug*

I just wonder what the reaction might be if they cast Angelina Jolie as Mbaba Mwana Waresa...

I did not get that at all. I admit that I may have missed it, but I never heard a single line saying that they were aliens. They simply mentioned that they came from another place than earth, which is also true of the "real" mythology. There was a line that I wish I could remember in which Odin made some kind of reference to his people existing since the dawn of time, as gods would. I'll post the actual line after I watch it again.

  16. I have a hard time considering Batman, Joker, Punisher, etc as Willpower characters. The OP mentions the way the set works in the game, which is basically like regeneration (but better), so if Batman had CoH Willpower, Bane would break his back, turn to walk away and then have Batman back up on his feet in perfect condition maybe 10 seconds later. Then someone might shoot Batman, emptying an entire clip into him and having him collapse in a pool of blood only to rise up yet again a few seconds later. Willpower in real life can let you ignore some injuries, but CoH Willpower makes you Wolverine.

This is one of the things that kills me about Smallville. I *love* Lex. I totally enjoyed Lois. I even usually liked Clark. If this show had been done right, it could have been beyond awesome.

Instead, it was the TV equivalent of blue balls.

"On second thought, I'mma fly by superfast, push Apokolips away in less than 5 seconds and not let anyone see me as more than a streak in the sky. But they'll be inspired anyways."

My exact first thought upon reading the article.
  21. Guess they need to make room for more reality shows.

TV today sucks. It's not worth investing time in watching a series that you like, because chances are that it will be cancelled. Personally, I now tend to wait until about 3 or 4 seasons are out on DVD before I start watching a show.

I don't mean dark as in mood but as in lighting. Most of the movie took place at night and even when they would be in well lit rooms you could look around and see 3/4 of the screen was darkness and shadows.

The majority of the action scenes were in darkness too so you got to see Thor in action but the action was blurry. Jotunheim was practically pitch black. And even when he fought the destroyer in broad daylight it was only light until he regained his power. At which point they took the fight to the inside of a dark tornado where you could sort of see that he was whirling his hammer.

And I didn't see the movie in 3d either which would have made it even darker.

But other than that I had no complaints at all. The warriors three and Sif were near perfect.
    Huh.

I saw it in 3D (not my first choice, but that's what was available when I was ale to go) and had no issue whatsoever with the lighting. I suspect it was more to do with the theatre. Having worked as a movie theater manager, I know that some of them will play the movies with the light intensity on the projectors turned down to save themselves a few bucks. A number of times when I found a movie too dark, it was because of this, not because of the movie itself.

I totally enjoyed it. I would have liked a somewhat longer fight with the Destroyer, but I still thought it was well-done. I was extremely happy to see Thor flying as I had assumed they'd leave that out.

As for the aliens vs. deities debate... they did refer to them somewhat as aliens, but Odin made some kind of reference to the dawn of time, (don't remember the exact line), which gave me the impression of Asgard as ancient and mythical. They did refer to the characters as gods on more than one occasion and Thor detailing Yggdrasil put it all into the realm of mythology for me. I had been worried about this point, but came away happy. I was alo pleased that they showed Thor as freaking powerful and not just "as strong as a dozen men" or something.

Also spotted the golden apples of Idun.

I consider it worth the ridiculous admission price and would even see it again.

    Skating Spidey

    Sigh.

Dunno why, but I find this pretty silly.

Also... that's a teenaged Peter Parker? Looks about 30 to me.
  25. Updating my list after seeing others' comments:

    *Better hands/feet/fingers/toes
*More costume pieces that are not part of a set
*Customisable stances and voices (no more deep male "hup!" when my teen female jumps)
*Breast slider that goes to 0% (for the teen female above)
    *Remove the war Walls
*Buildable powers: Choose "Blast" then buy the effects (freeze, extra damage, DoT, whatever) and choose the appearance of the power itself and how it activates (fires from hands, eyes, whatever)
*Built-in Morality: Decisions made in regular missions affect morality instead of specific, designated morality missions.
    *Arch Enemy system
    *Personal bases/ living space
    *Greater variety of ethnic faces
*Control powers that can lock down a foe and defeat them (as opposed to defeating them only through Hit Point reduction)
*Ragdoll effects to be applied to PCs and the ability to smash opponents through walls, crates, etc
*Ability to use powers for miscellaneous effects (fly up and get a cat out of a tree, lift a car off of a pedestrian that has been run over, catch someone who-- in an attemt to escape some CoT-- leaps from a rooftop...)
