Quote:Vanguard are the prime example of what he's talking about. Every single critter says this:
Every one. From Rangers up to the HVAS.
A lot of the "smaller" groups with only one type of critter per rank are similarly lazy, but Vanguard are easily the worst offenders.
I noticed the Legacy Chain have a lot of types per rank but also have a lot of copy pasting http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Legacy_Chain
Also the slag golems have the exact same from minion to boss http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Slag_Golems
"What strange forces gave life to these heaps of cast-off metal? There are those who say they are guardians of this island, born to stop the Cage Consortium's rampant destruction. Beware their incredible strength and near-indestructible hides."
These two aren't overly common but still, they're examples. -
Quote:I'm not having the problem, my brother had it and he sent in a petition and all that, then my buddy Vinny(vista) had the same problem and used the same fix. Both work perfectly now. Sonn I'm going to have another two of my friends try out the game and I figured I'd ask for the fix just in case if it was an issue it wouldn't cut into their 10 free trial.I'm on 7 (and prior, Vista) and haven't had to change anything with the shortcut because its long since been fixed. I'd guess it's most likely unrelated to 7/Vista, and maybe an issue with the video card's drivers (often the cause). CohHelper can create a summary of the information about your system and identify some issues to post on the boards, it should help us track down whatever problem you're having.

Quote:I don't know about that, my brother had to do it about a week or two ago. He has windows 7 I think. Was really laggy and kept crashing, but then changed the shortcut and now it works just fine. The only two compatibility issues with Vista that were fixed by passing command-line parameters (ie, editing the shortcut properties) are fixed by default now. There is no need to edit your shortcut for any such reason, and any lag you experience is more likely due to an actual issue with your computer (poor specs, adware, etc.) or your connection.
-
no no there was an issuie with it being really laggy... vista and windows 7 I think it was, then the fix was right click the desktop short cut and change the properties. I just don't remember what the change was.
-
Hey what was the vista laggy fix? Something about changing the shortcut path I just don't remember what the address was to change it to.

Quote:When I was asking what people thought of it I was just looking to share it and see if people liked it, or if I should scrap it and start over BUT thank you for the spelling and such I'll be sure to go and fix that when I get homeYou could call the large one Amityville or Poltergeist. Or name the one that does toxic damage after the girl that projectile vomited the green split pea soup.
Also when you asked for what people think of your story are you looking for spelling? (deads should be deeds for example)
Structure and usage? (the repeated use of "they" is redundant) or do you mean the content and how well it reads? -
Didn't know where else to put this type of thread. (feel free to move it if there's a better spot)
I've always felt that you can tell a lot about a preson by what kind of animals they'd keep as a pet.
Here is one of my youngest pets

Just came out of the water today! I'm very excited
I've also got an african bullfrog, alligator snapping turtle, and the various live food items (if you want to consider them pets also) crayfish, bugs, goldfish etc

OK so I named the toon Freidkin after the guy that directed The excorsist. I've got a pretty decent background story. I'm pleased with the way the toon looks. Now I need to figure out what to name the minions =/ any suggestions? I'd like to stick with the possession/excorsism theme. Ideas?Comments? Suggestions? Random lullibyes?

Quote:I kinda like it. It's simple, and the backstory is... not one I see often.
I like leaving it simple sometimes, my 50 blasters costume is basically jeans and a t-shirt. Hopefully "not one I see often" doesn't mean "this guy needs to be committed" I was trying to think up a background for him. It was one of those "Quick make a toon and then think up why he looks like that later." Deals. I have another that I wrote a long background to, but it was on an alt that I never play, years ago. I'll have to find it later and post it as well. -
Ok so I broke down and bought the expansion pack (I just needed to try the demon MM) so here is mine (lvl 17)
And here is the background story
"Little Billy was thrilled when he got the job working as an assisstant for the old librarian. It wasn't long before he realised that his boss had ties with the Circle of Thorns. Needing the money to help his family he kept this secret to himself. One night while working late he was spotted peeking in on a ceremony they were preforming. They surrounded him, he was frozen in fear... floating... bright lights... a strange voice... Now poor Billy has the feeling he is never alone. he has black outs, wakes up in strange places, people tell him the things he does not remember doing. They even say during these blackouts his appearance changes. They even go as far to say he grows horns, goes by the name Friedkin, and does horrible deads. Billy is starting to believe their storys from the random places he wakes up and the strange dreams of demons. Billys even more afraid because the black outs are getting longer..."
unfortunetly the back ground is a little long and it's missing the last 6 characters >_< "ger..." I'm curious to know what you all think -

Quote:Doing what you said won't get your buddy the reference credit. It has to be through Refer a Friend to get the reference credit. The GMs are not capable of inserting people into the Refer a Friend program for someone else.
I'll have to pass that on to my buddies who I've gotten to try out the 14 days. Get them to make new accounts. I've gotten 3 interested enough to check it out/ probably going to buy so far. But that's besides the point, why would there be a difference? The options are pay sooner and give your buddy a free month, or test the game a little longer? That's kinda silly, it should be the same IMO. -
I saw that CoX is having a 14 day free trial, GREAT! I managed to get three of my friends to try it out. Then I read about the referral program, where if you send them an email and they sign up they get to play for 10 days for free. Then if they sign up you get a free month. That's awesome.. my question is why the 4 day difference? If I was testing out the game and I saw that, I'd sign up for the 14 days instead of my buddies link, then if I joined I'd send in a petition or something saying that soandso referred me. Just felt it was kind of a facepalm moment, over sight kinda deal?

No, (and I wish I could remember specific badguy names now) I ran a mission just yesterday from a regular contact, and from minion on up each had the exact same bio copy/pasted. and the different types fire ice etc would just change a word or two. *ugh* I wish I could remember their names, I'll look up the contact, mission, baddies when I go home. I haven't played a single player made mission yet. (Probably should get on that)
-
I've been an on and off player since back in '04 I've tried a few other games, but none has won my loyalty like CoX. When I first started playing I was always pleased by the amount of work that was put into writing all of those missions, all of the dialog, all of those bios etc etc. I remember every time I spotted a new enemy I would right click/info and then read the bio on that enemy while I fought it. I couldn't tell you how much debt I've worked off because there was a mission specific boss that was just knocked down and I had to rush over to right click the body before it and his bio was lost to me. To those who wrote those bios and such I wish to honestly say I really enjoyed reading them and still do, bring that extra umpf to the game that I love. Even the story archs I make sure to read. I loved that with each of the baddies there would be different bios for the different ranks (minion, LT, boss etc)
However, I've noticed a lot of the newer baddies info is generalized from minion on up. First I thought maybe it was just me or maybe just a few of the baddies, but I've heard other people mentioning it as well.
I guess from this post I just wanted to get across to the writers that your efforts in the past have been noticed and quite enjoyed, and I hope to see that continue on in the future.
Just my 2inf... anyone else? -
I haven't laughed so hard in a very long time, thank you all so much for that

I'd love to get some cool looking pics drawn up of my toons, but I'm sticking to my rule that I can only have my main drawn if it's made it to lvl 50 (that way I don't get altitis for drawing requests O_O)
But I wouldn't feel right asking people to just do things for me with out being able to offer anything in return. Artists should always be comped in some form. Even if it's just a "I owe you one" here's some of the things I've done http://zantosa53.deviantart.com/ I'm not much of a pen and paper artist (although I'm practicing a bit now) I would like a little practice using that gimp program to bring peoples toons into a picture with them in trade. Anyway enough blabbering
*edit* OH I almost forgot a fun little detail. kinda hard to see in the screenshots, but pako2(ice/eng blaster) is as short as the game would allow for and death-owl(robo/bub MM) is the opposite :P
